Maine / City relocation guide

Moving to Augusta

Augusta combines a Kennebec River downtown, older residential streets, government campuses and commercial corridors. Compare the actual home with your daily trips, then settle school enrollment, utility handoff, disposal and the receiving route before moving day.

Make the home work for your ordinary week

Begin with the decisions that would change whether a property works for you. Establish the lease or closing terms, the rooms and storage you actually need, and the way you will reach work, school, care and groceries. A weekend visit to the waterfront tests a different routine from a weekday departure in rain.

Keep a short address file: the full street and unit, owner or manager, possession date, utilities included in the agreement, parking entitlement and school-registration contact. Separate what is promised in writing from something still to be checked. A reserved apartment parking space may not accommodate a commercial moving vehicle.

Walk the candidate home's entrance and the route to the largest room with its largest furniture in mind. Record the narrowest opening, stair turn, threshold and outdoor surface. If you will need a different entrance, ask who can authorize it and whether it remains available throughout the receiving window.

Use this guide in three passes. First compare the areas and daily trips. If you have children, begin the school and transport arrangements while comparing homes. After choosing the address, complete the utility, disposal and access handoffs. Finally bring the lawful vehicle position and building handoff together in the arrival plan. The Augusta moving estimate page helps turn the inventory and access information into a defined scope.

Locate the home within Augusta, Maine

This guide concerns the City of Augusta in Kennebec County, Maine. It does not use rules from other cities named Augusta. Start with the full street address and unit, then verify the municipality, road owner and actual service providers. Nearby communities and an Augusta postal label can be relevant to a search without sharing every City procedure.

The comprehensive plan places the historic riverfront core beside residential districts, government uses and major commercial corridors. It also discusses rural and outlying land. These differences matter when comparing a short walk downtown with a trip from a less central address, or a compact street frontage with a longer private approach.

The orientation map uses Maine GeoLibrary town-boundary geometry. Four source polygon parts together represent Augusta; they are not four neighborhoods. The six area comparisons below use separate planning and historic records. They illustrate differences in setting without defining an exhaustive list of neighborhoods or attendance zones.

The data attribution and limitations identify Maine GIS, Maine GeoLibrary, Maine DOT, federal mapping and Census contributors and caution against detailed large-scale use. Use the map for municipal context. Obtain the appropriate parcel, flood, school or road information for a property decision; the outline is not a surveyed boundary or an approved truck route.

Find the area that fits your routine

These six comparisons focus on distinct central and west-side settings documented in separate primary records. They do not cover every part of Augusta. Historic and planning descriptions explain the setting; current condition, availability, permissions and daily routes need property-specific checks.

Downtown and Water Street

The historic central business district survey describes a narrow riverfront commercial area with masonry buildings of several stories and residential hills nearby.

Daily travel
Check the walk to Augusta Depot and the particular route or booked trip, including the return.
Before choosing
Separate customer parking and public loading restrictions from the rights attached to the dwelling. Historic descriptions do not establish a current vacancy.

Winthrop and State Street historic area

The National Register record describes an irregular district along Winthrop and State Streets, with a rise toward Burnt Hill, wood-frame houses and civic buildings in brick or stone.

Daily travel
Walk the actual slope and crossing between the home and daily destinations.
Before choosing
Confirm the private driveway, limiting doorway and any historic-review implications before proposing an altered entrance.

Bond Street historic area

The nomination records a compact group of nineteenth-century mill-worker houses west of the Kennebec, with wood-frame construction, small setbacks and narrow drives.

Daily travel
Test the full trip from the address; a historic relationship to a mill is not a current commuting pattern.
Before choosing
Check whether a truck can use an authorized position without blocking a shared drive. Historical flood references are not a current parcel-risk assessment.

State Street near the Capitol complex

The Capitol Complex nomination describes government buildings and landscaped grounds around the State and Capitol Street junction, with historic structures of several periods.

Compare usable space and the full cost of living there

The ACS 2024 five-year housing estimates cover 2020–2024 for the whole City of Augusta. They report 9,453 occupied homes: 5,090 owner-occupied and 4,363 renter-occupied, approximately 53.8% owners and 46.2% renters. Median gross rent is $919 and median owner-occupied home value is $201,000. These estimates describe a past five-year period; they are not current asking rents, sale prices or a budget for a particular home.

Using the separate denominator of 10,164 total housing units, 5,171 are detached single-unit structures, about 50.9%, and 2,912 were built before 1940, about 28.7%. The figures do not tell you the condition, floor plan or energy performance of an individual building. A converted house, purpose-built apartment and detached home may distribute storage, services and access very differently.

For a rental, ask which meters serve the unit, who holds each account and how shared charges are calculated. Confirm the term, notice requirements and responsibility for snow, waste and private access in the agreement. Avoid planning from a previous tenant's arrangement without checking that it applies to your lease.

If the property is in or near a local historic district, use the Historic Preservation Commission to establish whether proposed exterior work requires review. A National Register description and a local review boundary are different records. Removing a railing or changing an exterior entrance to make furniture fit should never be assumed to be ordinary moving preparation.

Separate the new bus demonstrations from booked trips

KVCAP's current public transportation page lists both new demonstration routes and demand-response travel. Choose the actual service before comparing a home with a workplace, appointment or shopping trip. Their timetables, fares and booking conditions differ, and a route near the property does not establish a suitable return journey.

The Augusta West demonstration runs from September 14, 2026 through January 12, 2027, Monday–Friday, with an advertised operating span of 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. It links downtown with places including Shaw's, Gray Birch, Margaret Chase Smith, Target, Hannaford, Goodwill and 33 Union Street. Its ordinary fare is $2 per boarding, with a $1 discounted fare for the listed eligible groups. A possible longer pilot remains a later decision.

Read the West route map and timetable for the exact stop and direction. The table has eight hourly loops and marks some stops R, by request, rather than giving them a fixed arrival time. The first run has a different pattern at some stops. Call 207-859-8500 about a requested deviation or boarding need; do not infer that the vehicle comes to every address in the area.

The Fairfield–Augusta demonstration uses the same September-to-January trial period. It connects Fairfield stops with MaineGeneral Medical Center, Walmart and Augusta Depot. Fares are $4 regular or $2 discounted for an intercity boarding, and $2 or $1 for a local boarding. The flyer lists riders 65 and older, veterans, people with disabilities, ages 11–17 and Medicare cardholders among the discounted groups.

The intercity timetable shows four departures in each direction: eight one-way runs, not eight round trips. Southbound departures from 63 High Street begin at 8:30 a.m.; the final northbound departure from Augusta Depot is 3:30 p.m. Check the complete table and the current notice before planning an appointment. Flexible service near the medical center and Walmart requires coordination; the advertised service span is not a departure time at every stop.

For KV Van demand response, the current page lists Augusta service Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. It asks for at least 24 hours' notice and booking by noon the previous day at 207-859-8500. Explain both the outbound and return needs and have dispatch confirm the trip. The listed zone fare is $5 regular or $3 discounted; intercity demand-response fares are $10 or $5. Do not apply the demonstration's lower fare to a separately booked van journey.

The rider guide explains payment, cancellations, assistance and package limits. Carry the required fare or accepted pass and confirm the payment method; do not assume a bank card can be used on the vehicle. The West flyer says existing demand-response monthly passes will be honored on that demonstration, while no new demonstration monthly pass is offered. Ask about eligibility for the particular service rather than transferring one program's rules to another.

For an accessible trip, describe the mobility device, boarding surface and assistance required when booking. KVCAP's accommodation notice directs requests to 207-859-1500. A vehicle having a lift does not by itself establish that a specific approach, device or connection will work. Household furniture is a different transport need; keep bags out of aisles and follow the operator's limits.

Test the full trip from the door, including the crossing, waiting place and final walk. Check holidays and storm notices, and arrange a realistic alternative for trips outside the available service. Do not base a lease decision on the older Explorer loop descriptions without checking these current services and their stated trial end date.

Start enrollment with the actual address and grade

Use Augusta Public Schools registration to select the elementary or Cony middle/high school process. Give the full address, unit and grade, and ask the district to confirm the appropriate school. The six neighborhood comparisons and municipal map in this guide are not attendance boundaries, and the closest school is not necessarily an assignment.

The elementary registration instructions describe three steps: review the policies, complete the packet and submit it with an appointment. Emailing or mailing documents does not remove the in-person appointment needed to copy the original birth certificate, verify residency and complete signatures. Ask for help if a form or language requirement is unclear rather than leaving the application incomplete.

During June, July and August, the elementary process goes through the Central Office at 40 Pierce Drive, Suite 3, with contact 207-626-2468. During September through June, the page directs families to the school: Farrington at 249 Eastern Avenue, Gilbert at 16 Sunset Avenue, Hussey at 12 Gedney Street or Lincoln at 30 Lincoln Street. Confirm the assigned location and appointment before visiting.

The 2026–27 elementary packet requests the original birth certificate for copying and return, proof of residence such as the specified lease, mortgage, tax or utility documentation, and health-provider immunization records. It includes prior-school records release, language, residency and health forms. Relevant custody or guardianship orders may also be needed; discuss the actual situation with the registrar rather than assuming an informal authorization is sufficient.

For grades 7–12, the Cony registration page directs an in-person appointment through Christina Stonier, 207-626-2460, at 60 Pierce Drive. The 2026–27 Cony packet details the documents and school forms. Arrange transfer of academic and support records, including an IEP or Section 504 plan where relevant, so the receiving school can address placement and support. Packet delivery alone does not establish the first attendance day.

If ordinary residency documents are unavailable because the family's housing is temporary or unstable, contact the district promptly about the appropriate enrollment protections. The elementary packet identifies a McKinney-Vento route and liaison through 207-626-2468. Do not postpone contacting the school simply because a standard item is missing; the district must assess the circumstances and the applicable process.

The 2026–27 nonresident transfer agreement is a separate process involving the resident and receiving superintendents. The form describes annual approval, information exchange and a decision process; approval itself is not enrollment. It also places transport responsibility on the parent or guardian. Do not use an Augusta mailing address or a desired school as proof that the transfer has been approved.

The district's 2026–27 prekindergarten notice describes eligibility at age four by October 15, 2026, and a Gilbert program serving Augusta with half-day sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Ask about current space, placement and transport. A spring announcement does not promise an available place now. Confirm kindergarten age eligibility separately with the registrar rather than transferring the pre-K cutoff to another grade.

For school travel, the transportation page links the 2026–27 bus routes and lists First Student at 207-626-3570. It asks for drop-off changes before 1 p.m. and identifies home, grandparent and licensed-daycare locations. Provide the actual proposed address and obtain confirmation; a published route list is not approval of a new stop or an individual travel arrangement.

Keep school enrollment and transport as two handoffs. Confirm the first day, pickup and drop-off, emergency contacts, who may collect the child and any interim travel you must arrange. If the move date or address changes, update both the school and transport provider. Keep original documents and essentials accessible throughout the move rather than packing them in the main shipment.

07 /

Assign each service to the right account and date

Ask the owner or manager which services are connected to the actual unit and which are included in the agreement. Record the electricity meter, heating fuel, water and sewer arrangement, internet provider and any shared account. An Augusta address does not prove that every service is available or individually metered.

Greater Augusta Utility District customer service handles water, wastewater and stormwater accounts for its service area. The office is at 12 Williams Street, with contact 207-622-3701, Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–4 p.m. Confirm the property's connections and who will receive each charge. A property with a private well or septic system needs a different handoff from an individually billed District connection.

Where a tenant will receive the bills, the District directs the owner and tenant to sign its tenant permission form. It identifies the account, services, effective date and contact details. The owner remains responsible for unpaid charges; arranging tenant billing does not remove that responsibility. Bring the completed form to the District as instructed and confirm when the billing change actually takes effect.

The terms and conditions effective September 3, 2025 list a $20 application fee. Other work, deposits or reconnection circumstances can have separate conditions. Do not interpret that application fee as the total cost of every start or a guaranteed activation date. Ask whether the property needs a reading, appointment, meter access or additional work and who must provide access.

For a purchase or change of tenant, coordinate the outgoing and incoming dates so responsibility is clear. Ask the District how to handle the final reading and closing or tenancy change, and provide the forwarding details it requires. Keep the confirmation and report a delayed closing or changed occupancy date; a request sent before a change is not proof that the revised date has been recorded.

Central Maine Power’s moving page offers home start, transfer and stop-service paths. Prepare the service address, requested start date, billing details and the identification requested through the provider's own secure process. A transfer also needs the old service stop date; ending service requires a final-bill address. Business customers are directed to contact CMP. Obtain an actual confirmation rather than assuming the requested day is guaranteed.

Heating fuel needs a separate check. The Maine Public Utilities Commission lists both Maine Natural Gas and Summit Natural Gas for Augusta. That does not mean both serve a given street or that the home has a gas connection. Ask for the current supplier and meter or account, and distinguish an account transfer from installation of a new service line.

Maine Natural Gas provides start, stop and address-change options and an availability check; adding equipment requires its engineering contact. Summit offers an availability and service consultation at 800-909-7642. A request for a new connection is not the same as an immediate switch-on. For oil, propane or another heating arrangement, establish supplier, tank ownership, remaining fuel and delivery access directly from the property agreement and provider.

Arrange internet installation around the receiving window and building permissions. Keep essential connectivity and any medical or work-related service dependency in the arrival plan. If a provider appointment is unresolved, name the person who can attend, decide when the issue must be escalated and arrange the practical interim solution before the shipment arrives.

08 /

Separate routine collection from a moving clear-out

The City's rubbish collection instructions describe weekly curbside service for single-family homes and multifamily properties with four units or fewer. For a larger building or commercial premises, ask the owner or manager about the actual contracted arrangement. Confirm your collection day and storage location before putting anything outside.

The main instructions require rubbish at the curb by 7 a.m., no earlier than 4 p.m. the preceding day, with containers removed by 9 p.m. They state a 30-pound handling limit; an older FAQ elsewhere gives a different figure. Use the main instructions and ask Public Works about the intended container rather than relying on the higher figure. Keep rubbish securely contained and separate excluded materials.

Bulky objects, construction waste, universal or hazardous waste and liquids do not become ordinary household collection simply because they came from a move. Ask about each material before loading a vehicle or leaving it at the curb. An expired spring clean-up announcement is not a standing pickup appointment, and a mover removing agreed packing debris is a different service from a general property clear-out.

There is a significant recent location change: the City notice dated June 11, 2026 says that from July 1, 2026, single-stream recycling is accepted only at Hatch Hill, 112 Hatch Hill Road, Tuesday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. The Public Works site at 55 North Street is closed for recycling. Older two-location FAQ wording should not be used to plan a drop-off.

The Hatch Hill page lists the same Tuesday–Saturday hours, holiday closures and contact 207-626-2440. Check hours and acceptance before travelling with a load. The page describes a vehicle permit valid for two calendar years and a $15 residential permit; rental, temporary or commercial vehicle circumstances need to be discussed with the facility.

Augusta residents may obtain a three-trip annual pass with proof of residency instead of the regular permit arrangement. This is not three free disposal loads: tipping fees still apply, and the pass is not available for a hired hauler. Ask what evidence and vehicle details are needed and whether the arrangement fits the person actually bringing your items.

The currently linked gate fee sheet is dated September 1, 2024. It lists material-specific weight charges, minimums and additional taxes or surcharges, with some separated household recycling streams free. Confirm the current category and total charge at the scale before treating an older table as a quote. The ordinary rubbish line and a mixed construction-waste line are not interchangeable.

Mattresses and box springs need a specific call. The linked material table does not identify a separate mattress row. Describe the number, condition and any other material in the load, and ask about acceptance, classification, preparation, vehicle permission and the current fee. Do not assume that the resident pass includes them or that a single per-item charge covers both a mattress and its foundation.

Plan disposal before packing day so unwanted furniture does not block the receiving route or travel unnecessarily. Separate reusable items from waste and verify any donation acceptance before making the trip. Keep cardboard, protective film, foam, electronics and other materials separate until the correct destination is confirmed; the fact that something is packaging does not make it acceptable in every recycling stream.

For severe weather, the Public Works page describes collection cancellation notices and a rubbish hotline at 207-620-8122. A cancelled week can mean waiting until the next scheduled collection, so retain a secure storage option. Do not leave loose rubbish or a moving clear-out where snow operations, pedestrians or vehicles need access.

09 /

Resolve street permission before relying on the curb

Begin with the full operation: address, date, hours, vehicle length and width, any ramp or liftgate, the spaces needed and the path from vehicle to door. Identify whether the position is private property, a City street or another authority's road. The building owner can authorize its own property; that does not settle a public-street or sidewalk obstruction.

Use the City's permit directory and contact Augusta Police at 207-626-2370, extension 0. The parking-space closure link leads to a form titled Request to Obstruct the Public Way for Construction Purposes. Its construction wording matters: have the Police Department confirm the correct household or business-moving process rather than simply assuming that downloading it reserves space.

The form asks for applicant contact details, address, reason and location, number of spaces and start/end dates. It directs submission to APDRecords@augustamaine.gov or the Police Department at 7 Willow Street. The listed reviewers are Police, Fire, Public Works and Code Enforcement. It states that requests receive a response within two business days; it does not promise approval within that time or establish a universal moving application deadline.

Ask for the current fee, required notice, approval document, exact boundaries and authorized hours. Confirm who supplies and places approved markers, when any signs must be posted, whether a pedestrian plan or other traffic control is needed, and what happens if another vehicle occupies the space. Keep the final approval with the moving plan. Private cones, a note on a windshield or payment at an ordinary space are not evidence of exclusive use.

The form requires approved safety markers and a pedestrian redirection plan if the sidewalk will be blocked. It also retains conditions concerning snow operations, emergencies, passage and removal of property at the applicant's expense. Describe the full footprint instead of asking only whether the truck itself fits. A ramp, open door or staging pile can affect a route outside the vehicle's marked position.

The parking code, sections 270-24 through 270-30 separately restricts obstruction, driveway or sidewalk blocking, double parking and stopping near corners, crosswalks and hydrants. Section 270-24's limited freight exception is for up to one minute, with additional arterial restrictions; it is not a legal basis for an extended moving operation. Check the applicable street schedule and signs with the authority for the actual location.

For overnight planning, section 270-30A generally prohibits street parking between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., November 15 through April 15, unless Police permission applies. The code identifies an exception on the east side of Commercial Street between Oak and Water Streets. That exception does not reserve a moving space or remove other restrictions. Confirm whether the actual proposed position falls within any exception.

Section 270-30B adds a different rule: a vehicle over 15,000 pounds gross vehicle weight may not be parked for more than an hour on a street between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. without Police permission, with an Augusta Business Park exception. A winter permit for a resident vehicle should not be assumed to cover a heavy moving truck. The winter overnight form also requires approval confirmation and alert subscription, renews annually and preserves snow and emergency restrictions.

Do not confuse these arrangements with the daily oversize vehicle and equipment permit. That form concerns moving an oversized object over City ways or bridges and asks about dimensions, routing and related conditions. Its listed fee is not a verified flat fee for an ordinary household truck. If the vehicle or load may be oversized, ask the named City engineering or public-safety contact which additional process applies.

The public-pathway code also protects free passage and public entrances. Keep the receiving route usable for other people and obtain any required alternative routing. Before moving day, connect street permission with the building window and name the person who resolves an occupied curb or changed condition. A different lawful position, revised window or confirmed storage stage must be agreed with its owner, availability and cost before it becomes the fallback.

10 /

Trace one continuous route to the receiving room

Walk from the proposed vehicle position to the actual unit, then continue to the rooms receiving the largest pieces. Include the outdoor surface, steps, landing, threshold, door swing, hallway turn and any internal stair. Photograph the limiting parts with enough context to understand how they connect.

A house may have a side entrance that is easier than the front, but using it can involve a private yard, gate or shared drive. Obtain permission for the entire route. Do not remove a railing, alter a historic exterior or cross an adjoining parcel on the strength of a verbal suggestion from someone who cannot authorize it.

For an apartment or mixed-use building, identify the service door, elevator size, reservation window, protection requirements and who has keys. Ask whether deposits or other access charges apply and who receives them. Check that residential unloading can coexist with customers, deliveries and required exits; a shop's opening hours are not necessarily the building's moving hours.

Measure clear openings rather than nominal door sizes. Include stair landings and the space needed to turn a rigid piece. Discuss disassembly, protection and any item that still lacks a workable route with the mover before pickup. The moving-page access checklist helps connect those measurements to the estimate.

Agree who prepares the property, clears loose obstacles and deals with rain or snow on private surfaces. For a short reserved slot, agree what protected preparation may happen beforehand and keep carrying work inside the authorized time. Ask about COI, union or contractor conditions, the basis of any charges and who approves them. The person handing over keys should also know which rooms or entrances are unavailable. If a route changes, review the effect on carrying distance, equipment and the receiving window before work resumes.

11 /

Test an ordinary day from the front door

Make one trial trip at the time you expect to leave home. Include the actual walk to the vehicle or stop, the crossing, the destination entrance and the return. A map distance is useful context, but it does not measure waiting time, a hill with groceries or a connection missed after an appointment runs late.

The City plan identifies a mix of residential streets, commercial corridors and public destinations, and discusses gaps in pedestrian connections. Its proposed improvements are not a promise of completed infrastructure. Inspect the current crossing and sidewalk on the route you will use, especially where a residential street meets a busier corridor.

Residents tending raised garden beds beside a separate gravel walking path.
Try the ordinary neighborhood destinations and routes you expect to use.

12 /

Plan the approach for darkness, snow and changing conditions

Inspect the receiving route as a continuous path, including the vehicle position, slope, steps, landing and doorway. Establish who clears snow and treats slippery private surfaces, when that work will happen and who checks it before the crew arrives. A general road-maintenance operation does not guarantee a clear private entrance at a requested hour.

The winter parking code and overnight permission conditions make snow operations relevant even when some parking permission exists. Check current notices before staging a vehicle overnight. An approved routine arrangement can still require a change when snow removal, an emergency or access for other vehicles is affected.

Keep rubbish and recycling plans flexible during severe weather. Public Works may cancel collection, while a planned Hatch Hill visit remains subject to its operating day and conditions. Secure items on the property and keep them out of the walking and vehicle paths while waiting for an approved disposal opportunity.

For a property near water or on a slope, use current property-specific information to investigate drainage and flood exposure with the appropriate professionals. The municipal outline and historic neighborhood descriptions do not determine flood risk for a parcel. Do not infer a guaranteed view, flood protection or usable lower entrance from a representative photograph.

Set a decision time for weather-related access problems before loading commits the household to an unusable destination. Name the person who can approve a different window, lawful position or storage stage, and confirm where people can wait. Resume only when the necessary access, availability and cost decisions are clear to everyone involved.

View from an open garage toward a resident clearing snow from a private driveway.
Arrange clearance of the private approach before the receiving window.

13 /

Turn the remaining uncertainties into a workable arrival plan

Before the final week, bring together the possession date, school outcome, utility start dates, waste arrangement and moving access. Each needs a named owner and a confirmation. An application receipt, a proposed curb space or a landlord's intention is not the same as a completed arrangement.

DecisionUseful confirmationIf unresolved
Keys and unit accessNamed person, time, usable entrance and receiving windowSet a decision time and an approved later window.
Truck positionAuthority, location, hours and any posting or access conditionsResolve a separate lawful alternative before arrival.
School and travelEnrollment outcome, first day and confirmed transportKeep contact with the school office and arrange the interim trip.
UtilitiesCorrect meter or account, effective dates and required appointmentsAsk the provider what remains and who supplies access.
Bulky disposalAccepted material, vehicle eligibility and current feeKeep the item out of an unapproved curb pile.

A useful fallback explains what triggers it, who decides and what happens next. If closing is delayed, establish where the household can wait and whether a storage or revised delivery stage is actually available. Agree access and costs before treating it as settled.

On arrival, walk the route again, identify items that stay and confirm the rooms for delivery. Keep children, pets and visitors away from the work area. Retain the inventory, provider confirmations and building contacts until the handoffs are complete, then update the appropriate accounts and district if the address or timing changes.

Use the Augusta moving estimate to describe the inventory, services and access that are confirmed, together with the decisions still open. That allows a change in the property or receiving plan to be addressed before it becomes a moving-day surprise.

Questions before you arrive

Are the housing figures current Augusta asking prices?

No. They are ACS 2024 five-year estimates covering 2020–2024 for the whole City. Compare current listings and the full property-specific costs separately.

Can I still take recycling to Public Works on North Street?

The City’s June 2026 notice says that location closed for recycling from July 1. Use Hatch Hill’s current hours and acceptance instructions rather than the older two-location FAQ.

Does the three-trip Hatch Hill pass mean free disposal?

No. Tipping fees still apply, and the resident pass does not cover a hired hauler. Ask the facility about the material, vehicle and current charge before loading.

Do emailed school forms complete enrollment?

The district still requires an in-person appointment to verify documents and signatures. Confirm the correct elementary or Cony process, first attendance day and transport separately.

Will the new bus routes continue after January 2027?

The announced demonstration ends January 12, 2027. A longer pilot is conditional. Check the operator’s latest decision before relying on a later service date.

Does a winter parking permit authorize a moving truck at the curb?

It does not settle every vehicle, obstruction or heavy-truck condition. Give Augusta Police the actual dimensions, weight, hours and loading footprint, and confirm the applicable approvals.

What should I settle first if moving day is close?

Confirm possession, keys and the usable receiving route, then resolve the lawful truck position and time-sensitive school or utility appointments. Give each open issue a decision-maker, deadline and confirmed alternative.
