Movers in Painted Post, NY
A side entrance, a porch turn or a late handover can change the work behind a simple address. Sterling Oakbridge plans moves to, from and within Painted Post around what you are taking, how it reaches the vehicle and where it needs to go on arrival.
01 /
Decide what is moving before planning the rooms
Walk through the house as if you were leaving it: cupboards, porch, basement, garage and any separate storage. Decide what comes with you, what stays and what needs a different destination. Include belongings that are not currently at home.
For a move between two occupied homes, identify the furniture already at the receiving address. A spare bed or bookcase may have a place there before the rest of the shipment arrives. Label separate destinations clearly so the loading order follows those decisions.
If you are still choosing the address, the Painted Post guide covers the local arrangements to investigate alongside the property.
02 /
Choose the help that fits your preparation
Some households want to pack at their own pace; others need preparation handled around work, travel or a deadline. Tell us which tasks you want completed and which you will take care of yourself.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Agree that division before the date is fixed. It should be clear who empties cupboards, prepares loose shelves and finishes the rooms still in use the evening before departure.

Build the estimate from the actual job
Send the inventory, both addresses, preferred dates and the work you want done. Add extra stops, storage requirements and photographs of unusually large or delicate pieces. For access, show the proposed loading position, entrance, steps, turns and final rooms in one short sequence.
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Read the estimate for what is included and how the work is charged. Update it if the shipment or either property changes. The same number of bedrooms can involve very different amounts of furniture and preparation.
04 /
Show the entrance you will actually use
A basement room may have a walkout door, an interior staircase or both. Show each available route and confirm which one the owner will permit. A level side entrance is useful only if the approach, door opening and turn into the room also work.
Measure usable openings, including the space lost to fixed rails, radiators and door hardware. Photograph narrow corners from both directions. Ask before assuming a door or fitting can be removed.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
For apartments or shared buildings, record the entrance, delivery hours and the person who can resolve an access problem. Keep the agreed route clear of items that are staying.

05 /
Arrange loading without relying on overnight street parking
The village parking notice prohibits parking on village streets from midnight to 6 a.m. A vehicle position available during a daytime viewing is therefore not an overnight plan. Confirm the timing and location for the move.
Show the driveway entrance, width, surface, overhead clearance and turning space. Include the room needed behind the vehicle and the route pedestrians will use. A shared driveway also needs agreement with the people entitled to use it.
If loading would involve a public street, start with the Village Clerk to establish the responsible authority and any required arrangement. The absence of a moving-specific form does not establish permission to occupy the road.

06 /
Give each carton a useful destination
Label boxes for the room where you want them delivered, with a short contents note when useful. Books and other dense items belong in manageable small cartons; lighter bedding needs a different amount of space. Keep fragile objects apart from heavy loose contents.
Set aside the things you will use before the rest is unpacked: keys, personal documents, medication, chargers and an overnight bag. A small set of kitchen and bathroom essentials can make the first evening easier.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
If you are packing some items yourself, agree what will be ready and what the crew will finish. Leave appliances, specialist equipment and anything with preparation instructions for an explicit discussion.

07 /
Identify the pieces that need a separate conversation
A glass cabinet, large instrument or unusually heavy item should be visible in the plan before moving day. Send its dimensions, photographs, relevant handling instructions and the access route at each end.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Discuss any specialist assembly or preparation as a defined task. Do not assume that a general moving arrangement includes disconnection, installation or alteration of equipment and property fittings.
08 /
Plan the handover of a working space
For a shop, office or small commercial unit, begin with what must be usable first. Label equipment, records and stock against the receiving layout. Identify items that remain in service until the last working day.
Agree use of the loading court or service entrance with the property manager, including hours and a receiving contact. Show the approach as well as the door; a vehicle may need room to turn without blocking another unit.
Coordinate technical appointments separately with the people doing that work. A move can depend on a connection being ready even when the connection itself is outside the moving crew’s scope.
09 /
Tie the date to keys and a receiving plan
Confirm when the old property must be clear and when the new one can receive your belongings. Identify who will have keys and who can answer placement questions if you are travelling separately.
If a closing, repair or tenancy handover may slip, discuss storage or a revised delivery arrangement early. Keep the items needed during that gap separate from the stored shipment. Tell us when dates change so the plan can be reviewed before vehicles and people are committed.
10 /
Make the new rooms ready to receive the shipment
Mark rooms and decide where the largest pieces should stand. Keep building materials, outgoing furniture and household traffic away from the delivery route. One available contact helps resolve questions while work is underway.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
Review the agreed tasks before the crew leaves, and keep any follow-up clear. You can then unpack around a usable bed, bathroom and place to eat instead of opening every carton at once.

11 /
Agree protection and separate work in advance
Review the available protection choices and raise questions about particularly valuable or delicate belongings before the move. Keep the agreed arrangements with the estimate.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
Any unwanted items need a separate destination and plan. Check acceptance with a disposal facility or organization before arranging transport; a moving booking does not make every item suitable for the same destination.

Questions before you move
Can you arrange local and interstate moves involving Painted Post?
Yes. Local and interstate moving are part of our services. The plan depends on the inventory, requested work and access at both properties.
What should I send for an estimate?
Send both addresses, dates, an inventory and the tasks you want done, with access photographs and details of extra stops, storage or unusual items.
Can the truck be left on a village street overnight?
The village notice prohibits street parking from midnight to 6 a.m. Arrange a suitable location and timing rather than assuming a daytime loading position can be used overnight.
Can we use a basement side door for delivery?
Show the complete approach, door opening and route inside, and confirm the owner permits its use. The entrance needs to work for the particular pieces being moved.
Are basic protection materials and assembly charged separately?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you help with unpacking and removing packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What happens if the new home is not ready?
Tell us as soon as the timing changes. Storage or another delivery arrangement can be discussed, with the scope and charges agreed separately.
Can you move the contents of a shop or office?
Yes. Identify what is moving, the receiving layout, loading access and the equipment that needs to be usable first. Agree technical and installation work with the relevant providers.
