Start with the decision in front of you

Choose a reading route for the decision in front of you. While comparing an address, begin with orientation, the practical comparison and housing; inspect the actual entrance and property instead of assuming a house type by street. With children, read schools before the arrival date. With a closing or lease date, work backward from arrival: Authority accounts, collection, school arrangements and the truck position.

When the address is settled and the shipment needs planning, use the Fairfield moving page for dates, inventory, access and the estimate.

Understand Fairfield before comparing addresses

Fairfield is an incorporated borough in Adams County, Pennsylvania, founded in 1784 and incorporated in 1896. Start with the Borough office at 108 West Main Street, 717-642-5640, to confirm jurisdiction and the responsible department. The Municipal Authority is a separate water-and-sewer contact; a postal address alone does not establish a provider or a school assignment.

The ACS 2024 five-year profile estimates 569 residents. Its housing estimates have wide margins: owner occupancy 71.04% ± 20.51 percentage points describes occupied housing units, while single-unit structures 81.59% ± 24.12 points describes all housing units. These borough-wide estimates are not a street-by-street description or evidence of moving demand. Compare the specific property and its arrangements.

Find the area that fits your routine

Use five practical themes to compare an address: errands and Borough contacts, school arrangements, the property route, Authority accounts, and permits. The themes do not establish official neighborhoods, house types by street or a service boundary; inspect the property and confirm its jurisdiction.

Main Street & the borough office side

Compare your actual errands and the responsible Borough contacts.

04 /

Compare the whole property, not just the price

Compare the whole property with the price: condition and systems, storage areas, the entrance and every stair or turn needed for the move. The ACS 2024 five-year estimate of median owner-occupied value is $238,200 ± $18,352. It describes owner-occupied housing in the survey period, not a current listing, appraisal or price guarantee; it does not establish the age of houses on a particular block.

Check whether the address has Authority water and sewer and what transfer is required before key day. For a rental, obtain the landlord’s written moving rules and identify responsibility for accounts and tenancy paperwork. For a property within the Village Core historic district, ask the Borough about exterior-review requirements before planning changes to doors or other features for access. Inspect an actual basement if there is one rather than assuming every house has it.

Test your actual outward and return journey

Test the actual outward and return journey at the hours you need, including school or work commitments. The ACS mean travel time is 31.63 ± 4.14 minutes for workers 16 and older who did not work at home. That average does not identify Gettysburg as the destination, establish travel by car, or predict your commute.

rabbittransit shared ride is an option to investigate with the operator, with eligibility, booking and actual trip availability confirmed before relying on it. Its current Adams notice temporarily limits non-life-sustaining and shopping trips to Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 10 am–2 pm; the notice treats employment, medical and ADA trips separately. General-public fares are distance-zone based, currently $20–$50; discounts have separate eligibility. Confirm your applicable fare, pickup, outward and return arrangements and a fallback. For work from home, verify provider availability and installation at the specific address before closing.

Arrange registration and the school journey before arrival

Start Fairfield Area’s current registration before arrival, then confirm the address, school placement and start date with the district. New families create a Skyward account; existing families use Family Access. Prepare the applicable birth, residency, guardian identity, health and educational records for review. Ask the district about guardianship or shared-household documentation when relevant.

For help or an appointment, contact the Administration Office, 4840 Fairfield Road, 717-642-2045. The transportation page lists 717-642-2028; reconfirm the current contact and your actual bus arrangements. Keep a temporary school journey ready until pickup and return are confirmed.

07 /

The municipal authority's accounts

Contact the Fairfield Municipal Authority, 717-642-6557, before key day to establish whether the address uses its water and sewer, who holds the account, what transfer or meter information is needed, any applicable charges, and the confirmed service date. It serves the borough and parts of Hamiltonban Township. Its April 2026 water report lists office hours Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 9 am–1 pm or by appointment, distinct from Borough-office hours.

The report describes 2025 sampling, not the condition of a particular property today; ask the Authority for current address-specific questions. The Borough bulletin lists MetEd and Columbia Gas contacts. Confirm the actual provider and appointments for electricity, gas if applicable, and internet at the address. Keep an available contact and a temporary plan if activation or installation is delayed. Collection has separate arrangements in waste.

08 /

The hauler's day, and the borough's bulletin

Confirm collection responsibility, the current provider, account setup, service day and extra-item acceptance with the Borough and hauler before moving week. The Borough bulletin lists Park’s Garbage Service, 800-486-4490; its web domain now redirects to Patriot Disposal’s Pennsylvania operation, whose Adams County page lists 833-878-7274. Resolve the arrangement for your address rather than inferring either a private contract or a municipal route from a contact listing.

Arrange any special cleanout separately and keep its rejected items out of the packing list. The July 2026 newsletter lists a covered-device event on Saturday, October 24, 8–11 am at Fairfield Community Fire Company, 106 Steelman Street, for eligible Park’s customers in six municipalities. Confirm eligibility and the precise accepted-device instructions before loading; it is not universal bulky-waste collection. For a yard sale, the bulletin directs registration of each sale with the Borough, with no registration fee.

09 /

The curb plan on borough blocks

Send the Borough a proposed location, date, duration and truck dimensions, together with street photographs and the owner’s permission for private space. Ask which authority owns the street and what loading conditions apply. Contact 717-642-5640 before the date; do not treat photographs as permission.

The 2026 fee sheet includes annual parking-space rental at the community mailbox area. That specific rental does not answer whether or how a household moving truck can use another curb. Confirm the actual situation and a fallback position, then include both carry distances in the review. The moving page’s parking section turns the confirmed position into the crew’s plan.

10 /

Walk the full route before moving day

Walk the whole route with the largest pieces in mind: parking to steps, both door leaves, clear openings, landings, stairs and the final room. Measure and photograph pinch points; check surface condition and load access with the property’s responsible person. Do not assume an older appearance establishes a standard floor plan.

In rentals, obtain written work windows and coordinate the currently linked Tenant Transition form with the owner or agent; it calls for registration within 10 days of a tenancy change. Before exterior alterations in the Village Core, check historic review. The HARB application requires owner or agent attendance. These property procedures are distinct from permission to park a truck.

11 /

Test errands and the community-park visit

Test the errands you will actually make from the address: food, school, work and a return trip at useful hours. Confirm business opening hours and access rather than assuming the borough size means every errand is walkable or that another town supplies all larger needs.

The joint Borough–Hamiltonban parks commission describes the community park on Hamiltonban land, with a pavilion, accessible play area and half-mile path. The Borough newsletter gives 4020 Bullfrog Road. Check current access and events before a visit. This public park is a different site from the Municipal Authority’s private watershed, reservoir, trails and bridge, where the water report prohibits trespassing.

Confirm site access and your actual journey from the address.

12 /

The county calendar and the storm dates

Check the actual route and date against the Borough’s current notices. Its 2026 Pippinfest was September 26–27 and is already past as of this guide’s October 5 check; use the calendar for your future date rather than treating an old event as an upcoming closure.

For winter conditions, identify who clears and treats the property’s entrance and loading route and when the work will be finished. Agree a weather-delay contact and backup date before booking. Reconfirm collection or cleanout arrangements separately. The moving page converts those checks into the shipment’s date-and-backup plan.

Confirm access, appointments and the backup before departure.

13 /

Turn the closing date into an arrival plan

Before committing the delivery date, confirm when keys will be available, who can authorize access and how they can be reached. Contact the Authority, current collection provider and electricity or internet providers before their appointments and the move. Start district registration and confirm the school journey before children need to attend. Give yourself time for office hours and document review instead of waiting until arrival.

During the week before delivery, reconfirm the permitted truck position, entrance, inventory, packing responsibilities, property condition and receiving contact. Keep first-night essentials and important documents with you. Confirm which person will report changes and decide the next step.

If closing slips, decide in advance whether to delay delivery or use a separately arranged storage stage; confirm the revised dates, access and charges in writing. Arrange temporary lodging and any temporary school or work journey for that gap. If a provider appointment moves, have the operator’s contact and an available alternative for the affected service. For unsafe weather, use the agreed decision contact and backup receiving date. The Fairfield moving page holds the shipment and estimate details.

Questions before you arrive

What kind of municipality is Fairfield?

Fairfield is an incorporated borough in Adams County, Pennsylvania, founded in 1784 and incorporated in 1896. Confirm the actual municipality for a postal address with the Borough at 108 West Main Street, 717-642-5640; jurisdiction does not automatically establish a provider or school placement.

How long is the commute from Fairfield?

Test your real outward and return journey at the hours you need. The ACS mean 31.63 ± 4.14 minutes covers workers 16 and older who did not work at home; it does not identify destination or mode. Investigate rabbittransit shared ride with its operator, confirming eligibility, availability, fare and return before relying on it.

Where do Fairfield children go to school?

Start the district’s current Skyward registration and document review before arrival. Confirm address placement and start date with Fairfield Area at 717-642-2045, then resolve the bus or temporary school journey.

How does trash work in Fairfield?

Confirm the current provider and collection arrangement for your address with the Borough and hauler; a listed Park’s contact and its redirect to Patriot do not resolve the account or municipal-contract question. Arrange extra items separately and confirm any recycling event’s customer and acceptance restrictions.

Who provides water and sewer in Fairfield?

The independent Fairfield Municipal Authority serves the borough and parts of Hamiltonban. Call 717-642-6557 before key day for account and transfer arrangements. Its published office hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 9 am–1 pm or appointment; confirm the appointment you need.

What should I know about the historic district?

The Village Core covers Main Street and some extensions, rather than every borough property. Check your address and proposed exterior work with the Borough before alterations. HARB review/application has no fee, but other permits or fees can apply, and the application requires owner or agent attendance.

How do I arrange the moving estimate?

Use the Fairfield moving page to request an estimate: both addresses, dates plus an alternative, a room-by-room inventory (basement included), and photos of the entry and the curb. The more concrete the request, the more accurate the plan and price.
