Moving to Forked River, New Jersey

Know which office handles the question

Forked River is a Census-designated place in Lacey Township, Ocean County. The community name appears in postal addresses, while municipal services use the Lacey Township name. Use the complete address when arranging an account, appointment or collection.

The map uses the Census Bureau’s Forked River CDP boundary. It is an orientation outline, not a municipal, postal, school or utility-service boundary. The places discussed below are references for exploring the surrounding township.

If you are choosing a home, begin with the rooms and daily journeys you would use. If your address is already settled, go to schools, utilities and waste arrangements. The moving-services page covers the shipment, access and estimate.

Find the area that fits your routine

Choose a few places you would use often and visit them from the home you are considering. The references below help you start that comparison without assuming that a street name tells you how a house will feel.

Lacey Road and township services

The Recreation Department lists its contact address at 818 West Lacey Road and locates its office behind the Police Department.

Daily travel
Try the complete trip, including crossings and parking, rather than judging convenience by map distance.
Before choosing
Confirm the correct office and opening hours before visiting; not every township department shares one counter.

Gille Park

The township lists a walking path, playground, picnic pavilion, courts and sports fields at Gille Park.

If time outdoors matters to your household, see whether the route from the home to the park works for you.
Daily travel
Check the actual entrance and the walk or drive you would use, including the return at your usual time.
Before choosing
Visit during an ordinary activity period; a list of facilities does not confirm event times, availability or a quiet surrounding street.

Clune Park and Beach Boulevard

The township identifies Clune Park on Beach Boulevard as a place for Little League and youth football, with baseball and football fields.

Housing & setting
A nearby sports facility may matter to you, or it may have little bearing on your choice. Compare the home itself first.
Daily travel
Observe access and traffic when activities you care about are taking place.
Before choosing
Confirm the program and registration separately from the park location. The park name does not grant waterfront access from private property.

Try the home against your daily routine

Walk through the property in the order of an ordinary day. Where will coats, groceries and work equipment go? Is there room to use a desk or dining table once the furniture you intend to keep is in place?

A single-story layout can reduce the stairs you use without removing every step. Look at thresholds, garage access and the route to outdoor storage. Compare the usable space with your belongings, including anything that currently lives in a shed or workshop.

Ask which systems and fixtures are included, who maintains them and what work is planned before handover. Request the property’s repair and water-intrusion history where relevant. For rented or shared property, confirm maintenance, visitor and delivery arrangements with the responsible person.

If you are choosing a smaller home, mark the furniture positions before deciding what to bring. If a hobby, guest room or home office is the reason for moving, try that use during the viewing rather than leaving it as a hopeful idea.

Test the journey you will actually make

Try your work, school and shopping trips from the exact address at the times you expect to travel. Include the return journey and any walk between a stop or parking space and the destination.

Public transport is an option to investigate. Ocean Ride’s route directory lists OC 5 Lacey serving Forked River, Barnegat Pines, Sunrise Beach and Lanoka Harbor. Its currently linked timetable lists Monday, Wednesday and Friday operation and is open to all ages. Check the current service days, stops and final return before relying on it.

NJ TRANSIT’s route 559 timetable also includes Forked River on the Lakewood–Atlantic City route. Compare the available trips and the safe walking route to the stop with your own needs; a route passing through the area does not make every address equally convenient.

For home working, confirm the provider, connection and installation timing at the property. Test the room where calls and focused work would happen, including noise and space for the equipment you need.

Complete both steps of school registration

The Lacey Township School District pre-registration page distinguishes submitting information from completing enrollment. Its overview requests four proofs of residency and the child’s original birth certificate. Use the current checklist and forms for your household circumstances.

The detailed PreK–12 instructions say to enter information online, print and complete the designated school packet, and call that school for an in-person appointment. The district determines the assigned school; its Transportation Department can help identify it.

The detailed page currently lists Forked River, Lanoka Harbor and Cedar Creek elementary schools for grades 1–5, Mill Pond for PreK and kindergarten, the middle school for grades 6–8 and the high school for grades 9–12. First-time preschool families have a separate starting link. Confirm the current placement instead of choosing a school by the postal name.

Ask early about a mid-year start, records transfer, transport or additional support. If a requested document is unavailable, explain the situation to the district before assuming the ordinary checklist is the only route.

06 /

Confirm the accounts serving your address

The township utility page links JCP&L electrical-service information and the Lacey Municipal Utilities Authority. Ask the owner or property manager which providers and connections serve the home, then arrange the handover with those providers.

LMUA’s service information covers water and sewer-related charges and says homeowners are responsible for damaged or tampered-with meter equipment. If work is needed, establish the account and service arrangements before relying on the system being ready at arrival.

The authority also asks to be notified of a service problem and given an opportunity to resolve it before a customer incurs outside-company expenses for which reimbursement might be sought. Keep its service contact with the household records.

Check heating fuel, internet and any other essential service separately. For a rental, establish which accounts you open and which remain with the owner. Keep confirmation numbers and start dates together so a missing connection has a clear contact.

07 /

Match each item to the right collection

Start with the township’s trash and recycling page for the calendar and Recycle Coach. The 2026 calendar shows twice-weekly ordinary trash collection, with different north and south schedules, and recycling zones. Check the schedule for the property and any holiday change.

A few furniture pieces and a house cleanout are different jobs

Printed page 31 allows residents two furniture pieces per week with regular collection, preferably on the second collection day. It says mattresses and box springs must be covered in plastic if rain is occurring or expected.

The same page explicitly excludes house cleanouts from ordinary collection. Do not treat the furniture allowance as approval for an entire cleanout. Contact Public Works about the actual job and disposal route before placing a large load outside.

Cartons, appliances and special materials

The calendar separates ordinary trash, single-stream recycling, appointment pickups and drop-off materials. It lists appliances and certain metal items for pickup arranged through Public Works, and a recycling drop-off center at 820 Municipal Lane. Electronics, chemicals and renovation debris need the correct separate channel.

Flatten and sort your moving cartons according to the current recycling instructions. Check accepted materials and preparation before a trip or pickup; a recycling center does not accept everything left after a move. Keep disposal items apart from belongings being transported.

08 /

Check the loading space, not just the street name

Look at the proposed position and the route from it to the home. Show the width, surface and turning space when planning the move. A shared driveway or parking court also needs agreement with the person responsible for access.

The township’s municipal truck-parking program is a separate rental arrangement for designated spaces. The page sets eligibility and vehicle-document requirements, with temporary spaces subject to availability. It does not reserve a street-loading position outside an address.

For curb or road use, check the particular location with the township before the date. Keep entrances, pedestrian routes and waste collection accessible. The moving page explains which views to send for the vehicle plan.

09 /

Look at the transitions between spaces

Move through the hall, garage entrance and any steps as if carrying the largest piece you intend to keep. Check both sides of a doorway and the space for a turn. A wide room can have a narrow approach.

Photograph changes in level, fixed railings and fragile finishes. Ask the owner about any proposed removal of a fitting. If other work will be happening at the property, agree which entrance stays clear for the move.

At arrival, make the essential rooms usable first. A clear place to sleep, charge a phone and prepare a meal can matter more on the first evening than having every carton opened.

10 /

Keep seasonal tasks separate from the moving load

Check current weather and township notices before loading. The municipal calendar warns against parking on snow-covered roads. Clear the agreed route and discuss changed access rather than assuming the original vehicle position still works.

The township’s leaf-collection instructions call for leaves in biodegradable brown paper bags or containers no larger than 32 gallons, with leaves kept separate from branches and other debris. The page also explains recycling-center options after curbside collection ends. Check the current cycle before setting bags out; arrival of the collection period is not a promise of pickup on its first day.

Keep yard cleanup away from the shipment and the path used by the crew. If weather or a delayed handover changes the moving date, let everyone responsible for the property and delivery know while alternatives can be arranged.

Find a few places you would return to

A familiar walk, activity or weekly outing can help a new address start to feel like home. Lacey Township’s Recreation Department describes youth, adult and senior programs alongside sports and lakefront activities. Check the current program and registration separately from the facility location.

Use the places above as starting points, then make your own small list: groceries, a place to walk, an activity and the services you expect to use often. Visit at the time you would normally go and consider how you would get home.

People move for different reasons. Proximity to relatives may matter more than a shorter commute; a workable hobby room may matter more than extra floor area. Keep those reasons visible as you compare addresses instead of borrowing someone else’s ranking.

12 /

Plan for people as well as belongings

Confirm any childcare, care appointments or practical help you will need during the transition. Check availability before relying on a nearby listing. Keep personal documents, medicines and daily essentials accessible while rooms are being set up.

For pets, confirm tenancy and property rules and arrange a secure place during delivery. For a relative joining the household, walk through how they will use the entrance, bedroom and shared spaces. The useful questions come from the people who will live there.

13 /

Put the first week in order

Before the date, confirm keys, the receiving contact, essential service appointments and the school-registration steps if relevant. Keep one list of the people responsible for the property, move and household arrangements.

At delivery, identify the rooms and placement of larger furniture. Keep enough floor space to move safely between them. Make a note of outstanding property or service questions while the responsible contacts are available.

Over the following days, finish address changes, learn the waste schedule and try the journeys you planned. If the move is staged, keep a list of what remains in storage and when you will need it. You can settle into a routine before the last carton is empty.

No. The published program concerns designated rental spaces. A moving vehicle’s loading position at the property is a separate arrangement.

Who should I contact about utility handover?

Confirm the existing providers with the owner or manager. The township links JCP&L and LMUA; contact the relevant provider about the property, account and service start.
