Pennsylvania / City relocation guide

A practical guide to settling in Hughesville

Choose the home around your household routine. Confirm the school contact, separate accounts and the journeys that must work from your actual address.

Choose the address before choosing the routine

Hughesville is an incorporated borough in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The map follows the full 2026 Census TIGERweb incorporated-place boundary, GEOID 4236160. Wolf Township and Picture Rocks have their own municipal responsibilities even where residents share services or a mailing town.

Compare the actual home with the authority for each question. ZIP 17737, a water-service area and a school district do not define the same boundary. Confirm the municipality separately from the mailing address. For the belongings and carrying route, use the Hughesville moving page.

Find the area that fits your routine

Compare the actual home through these three local connections; each answers a different planning question.

Fifth Street account and library connection

The borough and water offices use 147 South Fifth Street; the county library directory lists the library at 146 South Fifth Street.

Inspect the home as a place to live and receive belongings

Compare the lease or purchase price with recurring costs, property condition, possession date and the rooms you will use. Visit at the times that matter to you. Check storage, laundry, heating, drainage, stairs and the actual furniture layout; an attractive room can still have a difficult receiving route.

For a rental, establish who pays each account and maintains the entrance, shared areas and equipment. For a purchase, obtain property-specific condition and closing information from the parties responsible. There is no reliable current borough asking-price or rent figure in this research, so use actual listings and written costs for the home you are considering.

04 /

Assess the entrance as part of the housing choice

Visit the entrance and each room you will use, including a basement or upstairs space. Check the usable door opening, stair turn, lighting and floor route. Ask who controls a shared entrance and who maintains steps, drainage or snow clearance. Keep the inspection and property questions separate from the eventual carrying arrangements, and send useful access photographs with the moving request.

05 /

Ask about the receiving position before settling the date

Show the proposed truck position and duration to the property owner and the borough. The published parking code includes a permit-based moving-truck exception and separate street restrictions; an apparently available curb is not an issued permit. Confirm the current instructions for the exact property, then include the agreed position in the move plan.

06 /

Use the right office for property questions

The Hughesville Borough office is at 147 South Fifth Street, 570-584-2041. Its site links the published borough code, zoning information and inspection contacts. The code index includes legislation through October 12, 2020; confirm the current procedure with the borough. Ask which process applies to your address and proposed use before arranging a renovation, business opening or receiving date.

The borough streets page supplies no usable current collection instructions in the accessible text. That does not establish that there is no procedure. Confirm the responsible office, property manager or collector rather than transferring a rule from Wolf Township or another borough.

07 /

Start registration through the current district contacts

The East Lycoming School District registration page directs kindergarten through grade six families to Kay Barkley at 570-584-5121 and grades seven through twelve to Cathy Gardner at 570-584-5113. Use its current New Student Registration instructions.

Contact the appropriate office with the exact address, grade and expected start date. Ask for the current documents, proof-of-residence process, transfer records, health requirements, school assignment and transportation instructions. The accessible registration page does not enumerate those requirements; do not substitute a neighboring district checklist.

The district site lists Ashkar Elementary in Hughesville, Ferrell Elementary in Picture Rocks, Renn Elementary in Lairdsville and Hughesville Junior/Senior High School. A nearby campus is not an attendance assignment. Review any learning-support or transport needs directly with the district.

08 /

Arrange water as its own account task

The Hughesville Borough Water Authority serves the borough and surrounding Wolf Township; that service description is not a municipal boundary map. Confirm service and account responsibility for your property, the start date, meter reading and billing address.

The current authority site publishes rates effective January 1, 2026: $25 per equivalent dwelling unit per quarter plus $7.50 per 1,000 gallons, first reflected in April 2026 bills. Check the account with the authority rather than treating that as your complete housing or utility cost. Bills are quarterly; email billing can be requested.

The office is at 147 South Fifth Street, 570-584-6005, with posted Monday, Tuesday and Thursday hours of 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Confirm hours before visiting and ask what is needed for the transfer.

09 /

Keep sewer and other providers separate

Wolf Township lists the Hughesville-Wolf Township Joint Municipal Sewer Authority at 547 Woolen Mill Road, 570-584-4024. Confirm whether the property is connected, who holds the account and how a change of occupant is recorded. Do not assume the water account opens or settles the sewer account.

Use the lease, closing documents and current bills to identify electricity, heating fuel and internet providers at the exact address. Confirm the start date, any deposit, equipment appointment and service readiness. An internet coverage map is not proof of an installed connection or the speed available in the room where you will work.

10 /

Test the journey and the return connection

River Valley Transit Authority publishes the Tri-Town Connector–Muncy/Hughesville route with Hughesville timepoints at Main & Race and Boyer Apartments. It lists Monday–Saturday service, with some trips excluded on Saturday. Check the current timetable and alerts for the journey you actually intend to make.

For Williamsport and the Trade & Transit Centre, the published instructions call for a transfer at The District to the District–Lycoming Crossing service. Include walking and transfer time, the last practical return trip and the needs of anyone travelling with you. The authority says its buses are wheelchair accessible; confirm your particular journey if you need assistance.

For driving, try the outward and return routes at the relevant hours and inspect parking at the destination. A regional destination alone cannot establish your driving time.

Plan the first-week errands around the home

Check the grocery, pharmacy, delivery and work arrangements you will use from the chosen address. Keep essentials and household documents accessible during the first delivery rather than burying them in the last carton. Ask providers directly about stock, eligibility, appointments and current opening hours.

The Hughesville Area Public Library offers computers, printing and free Wi-Fi, and serves Hughesville, Wolf Township and Picture Rocks. The county library system directory lists its address as 146 South Fifth Street and phone as 570-584-3762. Check the current hours and card instructions before your first visit.

12 /

Locate routine care before an urgent errand

Geisinger lists Geisinger Medical Center Muncy at 255 Route 220 Highway, near the Pennsdale interchange of I-180, with an emergency department and other services. It is a regional Muncy facility, not a Hughesville address. For routine care, confirm your provider, appointment availability, coverage and the correct entrance separately.

13 /

Separate recycling from ordinary and bulky waste

The county drop-off directory lists a Hughesville recycling location at the municipal building, 147 South Fifth Street. Its table is labelled open as of October 2021, so confirm the current site and accepted materials before relying on it. The county expressly excludes trash, plastic bags, Styrofoam and unwanted items from those drop-offs.

Ask your collector about ordinary pickup, flattened cartons and oversized items. Recycling bins are not a place to abandon move-out contents; use an agreed collection or disposal arrangement. The borough bulk-waste provision does not establish a recurring free furniture pickup.

14 /

Check community activity against the dates you need

The Lycoming County Fair is a borough event with grounds at 1 East Park Street. Its site describes the annual fair in mid-July and posts the year’s program. The displayed July 8–18, 2026 dates are past at this October check; do not treat them as the next fair’s schedule.

For an event visit or a move near the grounds, check the current program, entry instructions and the actual route. An event calendar does not establish a permanent traffic closure or permission to park a moving truck.

15 /

Check the property and the date together

Inspect how rain, snow, leaf accumulation and darkness affect the entrance, drainage and the route to the street. Decide who keeps the path usable and where cartons can wait indoors. Recheck the forecast close to delivery, and leave time to respond if the property or travel conditions change.

For flood information, search the exact property in the FEMA Flood Map Service Center and review applicable effective products with the responsible professional. This borough orientation map cannot establish a parcel’s flood risk, insurance need or condition.

16 /

Put the confirmations into one arrival checklist

Before arrival, confirm possession, a receiving contact, the carrying plan, school contact and the start dates for separate accounts. Keep the lease or closing documents, personal essentials and current contacts with you. If keys, a provider appointment or a school date changes, update the relevant person instead of assuming the rest of the plan will adjust automatically.

After delivery, check the rooms, essential supplies and utility readiness, then complete the account and household errands still outstanding. For agreed packing, delivery, storage or optional after-move work, return to the Hughesville moving page.

Questions before you arrive

Is every Hughesville postal address in the borough?

No. Confirm the exact municipality, school assignment and each provider independently; ZIP 17737 and service territories have different purposes.

Where do I begin new student registration?

Use East Lycoming’s current New Student Registration page and the contact for the child’s grade. Confirm the address assignment and required documents directly.

Does opening a water account also handle sewer?

Confirm both arrangements separately. The Water Authority and the Hughesville-Wolf Township sewer contact are separate account tasks.

Is there a published bus connection to Williamsport?

RVTA publishes the Tri-Town Connector and a transfer at The District for Williamsport. Check the exact trip, Saturday exclusions and return connection.

Are the guide’s housing figures current asking prices?

No current borough asking-price or rent estimate is supplied. Compare the actual property and written recurring costs.

Can the borough map settle flood or parking questions?

No. It shows the incorporated boundary. Use address-specific flood products and confirm the proposed truck position with the responsible authority.
