The Health Department manages the town trash and recycling contract and publishes Republic Services guidance. Confirm whether the property participates in town service or has a private arrangement, then establish the actual collection day and recycling week. The 2026 calendar distinguishes street segments and says recycling is every other week.
The live department page asks for carts by 6 a.m.; the calendar says 7 a.m. Use the earlier posted time while confirming the current instruction for your address. Keep carts at least three feet from other objects, with the lid opening toward the road and wheels toward the home; do not overfill or block them with a parked vehicle. Recycling is single stream and should not be in plastic bags. The calendar says household trash must be bagged.
The bulk form limits the service to participating residents with a paid-current trash bill and four bulk items per year. It lists eligible furniture and burnable items, excludes mattresses, box springs, appliances, metal, electronics and other materials, and says scheduling can take up to three weeks. Do not put an item out before the scheduled email confirmation.
If you need disposal sooner, arrange a confirmed alternative and any fee with the relevant hauler. Check each item's destination and conditions rather than treating all cardboard, textiles, yard waste and unwanted furniture alike. A move-out deadline can arrive before a bulk appointment.
The Collector FAQ posts fall and spring billing for July–December and January–June, a 25% discount for users reaching 65 by July 1 of the fiscal year, and an application route for vacancy or absence abatements. Confirm the current account, qualification and application with the Collector or Board of Health; neither a move nor age alone establishes automatic approval. Service contacts differ across posted documents, so the live Health Department's Republic number, 413-557-6700, and Board of Health, 413-267-4107, are useful starting contacts.
