Movers in South Shore, KY
A move across the river can involve two states even when the addresses look close on a map. Sterling Oakbridge plans your South Shore move around the belongings, the actual route and the work needed inside both properties.
01 /
Start with both addresses and the full inventory
Send the pickup and delivery addresses, the dates you are considering and a list of what will travel. Include items in a garage, shed, basement or storage unit, along with anything going to a second destination. Photographs help when a room count does not describe the job.
South Shore is in Kentucky; Portsmouth is across the Ohio River in Ohio. Include the state and full address at each end, even for a short journey. The postal name alone does not tell us which driveway, building entrance or floor the crew will use.
Point out large, delicate or unusual pieces early. A dining table that was assembled indoors, a tall cabinet or a collection needing individual packing may require more preparation than its size first suggests.
02 /
Choose the help that fits your move
You may want everything packed, a few rooms completed or help with pieces that are difficult to prepare. Tell us what you will do yourself and what you would like the team to handle at pickup and delivery.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Separate the groups if some belongings will go into storage or to another household. For a small move, a clear item list is more useful than assuming the work will be quick because there are fewer rooms.
03 /
Put the same job in every estimate
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Compare quotes using the same inventory, packing request, dates and access details. Ask which tasks and materials are included, what remains separate and how an added stop or changed inventory would be handled.
A short trip does not remove the work at either property. Porch steps, a long carrying path, unfinished packing or waiting for keys can matter more than the mileage between the addresses. Include those details before agreeing the scope.
04 /
Look beyond the number of steps
Photograph the approach from the proposed vehicle position to the rooms. At a porch, show the bottom of the steps, the complete stair flight, the landing and the turn into the doorway. Include handrails, overhead clearance and door swings.
A wide door can still be difficult to approach when the landing is shallow. Measure the limiting openings and larger furniture where possible, and explain whether an alternative entrance is available. The planning team can review which route makes sense.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
For a shared property, confirm the entrance, access window and person who can admit the crew. Agree how other occupants will continue to reach their rooms while the move is underway.

05 /
Allow working space behind the truck
A suitable parking position needs room for the vehicle, unloading and a clear route to the entrance. Share photographs of the driveway entrance and the proposed standing area, including any slope, low branches or overhead lines.
Confirm permission with the property owner or manager. If the plan depends on a street position, ask the responsible authority about current restrictions and any arrangement needed for loading. The state’s South Shore municipal directory provides the city contact.
Keep a practical alternative in mind if a shared driveway is occupied or the preferred approach cannot be used. Tell the moving team about known access limitations before arrival so the vehicle and carrying plan can be reviewed together.

06 /
Keep the first-night items out of the shipment
Put keys, documents, medication, chargers and a change of clothes in a bag that stays with you. Keep towels and bedding for the first night easy to find. Label the rest by destination room, with a separate mark for storage.
Choose cartons for their contents. Small book cartons keep a book collection manageable; medium cartons suit lighter household linens. Dishes and fragile pieces need appropriate protection and a packing arrangement suited to their shape and weight.
If you are doing part of the packing, agree what must be finished before pickup. Leave a clear group for the team to pack rather than mixing unfinished cartons with the things that are ready to load.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

07 /
Decide what will leave by another route
Set aside items to donate, sell, recycle or discard before the carrying route fills with cartons. Give each group a destination and a date. Moving an unwanted piece out of the way is still work that needs an agreed scope.
Greenup County Solid Waste lists a convenience and recycling center for large residential items, with no ordinary garbage accepted. Its posted rules exclude contractors and businesses. Do not assume a moving crew can take a load there on your behalf.
Contact the county about the particular items and eligibility. Keep municipal disposal, a donation collection and any separately quoted removal work distinct when arranging the move.
08 /
Coordinate the handover on both sides
Confirm when the old property must be empty, when the new one can be entered and who will hold the keys. Add building access, packing and any second stop to the same plan. Share a reachable contact for each address.
Across our service area, summer and the end and beginning of the month tend to be busier, with another rise around mid-month. This is our scheduling observation, not a promise of South Shore availability. Discuss dates early and explain where you have flexibility.
If your own journey is separate from the shipment, arrange someone authorised to receive the crew and make placement decisions. A passenger arrival time and a delivery appointment need to work together.
09 /
Plan for a gap before delivery
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
If the receiving property will not be ready, discuss available storage or a revised delivery arrangement before changing the date. Confirm the handling, charges, access to stored items and expected next step.
Keep anything needed during the gap outside the stored shipment. If one room or group must arrive earlier than another, identify it before loading and review whether the requested sequence can be accommodated.
10 /
Give the workplace a clear reopening sequence
List furniture, equipment, stock, records and any items needing technical preparation. Decide which work area must be usable first, then label the receiving rooms and placements so the team is not guessing when the shipment arrives.
Review loading and access with the property contact. A shop entrance shared with customers may need a different arrangement from a closed office. Confirm who controls keys, alarms and the agreed work window.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
For records, delicate equipment or unusual stock, describe the handling needs in advance. Do not assume an ordinary furniture quote includes technical disconnection or every specialist task.
11 /
Prepare the route before the furniture moves
Keep the planned path clear of loose packing material, small furniture and personal bags. Arrange care for children and pets away from the work area. Tell the crew lead about a changed condition before the first large piece is carried.
Discuss protection for the belongings and the property as part of the agreed plan. Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly are different from complex or specialist work; flag unusual construction before the move.
At delivery, explain the room labels and preferred positions. Check that doors, drawers and walking routes remain usable before cartons accumulate around the furniture.

12 /
Review the work while everyone is still available
Walk through the receiving rooms with the crew lead. Confirm furniture placement, the agreed reassembly and any remaining tasks. Raise a concern while the relevant people and paperwork are available, and keep the first-night essentials accessible.
Furniture unwrapping, unpacking carton contents and removing packaging are separate parts of the scope. Confirm which you requested and how leftover materials will be handled if you unpack gradually.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

Questions before you move
Can you handle a move between South Shore, KY and Portsmouth, OH?
Yes. Sterling Oakbridge handles local and interstate household moves. Give us both complete addresses and states, the inventory and requested work so the plan and estimate reflect the actual journey and access.
Does a single-story home always mean an easy carrying route?
No. Porch steps, a shallow landing, a tight internal turn or a long path from the truck can affect the work. Send photographs of the whole route, including the entrance and destination rooms.
Can you pack only the rooms I have not finished?
Yes. Describe the remaining rooms or items and what you intend to complete yourself. Agree the packing work before moving day so the time and materials are included in the estimate.
Can the crew take unwanted items to the county recycling center?
Do not assume that arrangement is available. Greenup County’s posted center rules are for residential large items and exclude contractors and businesses. Confirm an appropriate disposal route separately.
Are cartons included with blankets, tape and shrink wrap?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack and remove the packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What if I cannot get the delivery keys on time?
Contact the planning team promptly. Discuss available storage or delivery alternatives and confirm revised dates, handling and charges before relying on a different arrangement.
Can a business move be completed in stages?
Phased, weekend or after-hours work can be arranged within the agreed scope and available schedule. Confirm access, staff responsibilities and the order in which work areas need to reopen.
