Movers in Hampden, ME
Sterling Oakbridge helps with moves to, from and within Hampden, Maine. We organize the handling, packing and delivery around your belongings, the two properties and the help you want.
01 /
Start with the change your household is making
A move to Hampden may bring you closer to work, family or a different kind of home. You may be leaving a rental, downsizing, combining households or moving a business. Those situations need different plans even when the addresses are only a few miles apart.
Begin with the belongings that are going, the date you can leave the first property and the date you can use the next one. Include a garage, basement or outbuilding in the inventory if it contains part of the load. Mark items that will stay, go to a second destination or need a separate decision.
If you are still choosing an address, the Hampden relocation guide covers local services and the questions to take on a property visit. The moving plan can become more specific once you know where the furniture will go.
02 /
Choose the work you want us to complete
You can start with the parts you want help with: packing a whole home, handling selected fragile items, moving the load, or arranging storage between properties. Describe the result you need rather than trying to fit the job into a household-size label.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
For a shared household or a family member’s move, choose one person who can settle destination and inventory questions. A short room-by-room list helps everyone work from the same decisions, especially when some possessions are being kept and others are being passed on.
03 /
Follow the route from the room to the vehicle
A front door is only one part of access. Trace the route from each large item through room doors, landings and any outside steps. A garage entrance may avoid one tight turn but introduce a raised threshold; a basement door may need a different approach from the main entrance.
Photograph the narrowest points and measure the opening with the door in its usable position. Include railings, low ceilings and a turn at the top or bottom of stairs. Tell us about loose fittings or surfaces that need particular protection. Do not remove a door, rail or built-in part before agreeing a suitable plan with the property owner.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
Keep keys and the name of the person granting access available on the day. If another contractor is working at the property, agree how the two jobs will share the entrance and avoid placing materials in the carrying route.

04 /
Choose a workable place to load
The useful question is where the vehicle can stand while the crew works. Show the driveway entrance, its narrowest part, overhead obstructions and the path from the parking position to the door. A car fitting into a space does not establish that a moving vehicle can turn or unload there.
Hampden publishes parking ordinances for specific road segments, including parts of Main Road North near Carver and Riverview Roads and part of Kennebec Road near Back Winterport Road. Check the actual location and signs before relying on roadside loading. A neighbor’s permission does not reserve a public road.
For a shared drive, settle the working position with the owner or manager and leave the required access available. If the proposed position is unavailable, tell us before arrival so the carry and vehicle plan can be reviewed.

05 /
Check the route as well as the date
Hampden’s Town Ways Ordinance provides for signed through-truck restrictions and posted vehicle-weight limits, including seasonal restrictions. Their application depends on the road, vehicle and applicable provisions; do not assume that a moving vehicle is automatically prohibited or exempt.
Where a posted road, narrow approach or uncertain bridge affects the address, contact Public Works and share the resulting information with us. A map shortcut is not enough to settle a heavy-vehicle route.
Plan collection and delivery around the real key handover and any building access window. Leave one reachable contact at each end. If weather or another event changes the available route or entrance, update the plan before the vehicle sets off.
06 /
Pack for the contents and the next room
Decide which rooms you will pack yourself and which need help. Start with possessions you will not need before moving day, leaving a small personal kit for the last night and first morning. Keep medicines, documents, keys and essential chargers with you.
Use smaller cartons for dense contents such as books and appropriate cushioning for fragile items. Label the destination room and indicate anything that should be opened first. A carton marked “kitchen — everyday plates” is easier to place and unpack than one marked only “miscellaneous.”
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Separate items that cannot be packed until a last decision is made. If a cupboard, shed or appliance contains something you are unsure about, ask before adding it to a box. The contents matter more than how many cartons you can stack in the hallway.

07 /
Make the estimate match the whole job
Send these details together so the estimate describes one complete plan:
- Collection and delivery addresses, including any extra stop.
- An inventory and photographs of unusual or awkward items.
- Your preferred dates and any fixed key or access times.
- The packing, storage and other help you want.
- Stairs, doors, the proposed vehicle position and any known route restrictions.
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Read the estimate against that list. If the inventory grows, the destination changes or an extra service becomes necessary, ask for the effect on the scope and price to be recorded. This is especially useful when several people are arranging different parts of the move.

Give unusual items their own handling plan
A piano, safe, large cabinet or fragile collection deserves more than a note saying “heavy item.” Send its dimensions, clear photographs and any known loose or delicate parts. Show the complete route, including a tight stair turn or a change in floor level.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Decide what needs preparation by another qualified person before the crew arrives. Moving an appliance and connecting it at the next property are separate tasks; include only the work that has been expressly agreed. Keep small fittings with their item in a labelled container so they can be found when the furniture is placed.
09 /
Keep the next working day in view
For an office, shop or home business, choose what must be working first at the destination. Label equipment and cartons by workstation or function, not only by the person who packed them. Keep sensitive records, access credentials and backup copies under your control.
Agree building hours, the receiving contact and any interruption your staff or customers will notice. Identify equipment requiring specialist preparation before it is moved, and arrange the responsible provider separately where necessary. An empty floor plan with numbered positions can save repeated handling after delivery.
If work continues during the move, set aside a small operating area and the supplies needed to use it. The load order should support that plan instead of burying the essentials behind stock or archived files.
10 /
Plan for a gap between properties
A sale completing late or a rental starting after the old lease ends can change the order of the move. Discuss the gap as soon as it becomes possible, including which belongings you may need before final delivery.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
If storage is part of the plan, distinguish the items intended for storage from those going directly to the home. Ask how access, later delivery and the associated charges will work for your arrangement. Keep a personal kit outside the stored load, and confirm who can authorize a revised destination or delivery date.

11 /
Agree on protection and the tasks after delivery
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
Walk through the destination with the crew while room placement can still be checked. Keep the agreed paperwork and raise anything needing attention through the stated process. Decide which cartons you will unpack yourself and what work remains after the furniture is in place.
Hampden’s residential transfer station requires the appropriate resident decal and does not accept commercial haulers. Do not assume a hired crew can dispose of your unwanted items there under a household pass. Any removal service needs an agreed scope and disposal route of its own.

Questions before you move
Can you help with a local move as well as a move out of Maine?
Yes. Discuss your collection and delivery addresses and the help you need with Sterling Oakbridge. Local, interstate and storage-related moves are planned around the actual load, access and agreed services.
What if I do not yet have the final delivery date?
Explain the possible gap when you request an estimate. Discuss storage, access to any essential items and how later delivery would be arranged. Update the plan once the property and key handover are confirmed.
Can a moving truck use every road in Hampden?
Do not assume that it can. Posted truck or weight restrictions and the physical approach may affect the route. Share signs or known restrictions at your address and confirm questions with the relevant road owner before the day.
Can the vehicle simply load outside my house?
The working position needs to suit the vehicle, the carrying route and the applicable parking rules. Some Hampden road segments have specific restrictions. A private driveway also needs enough usable space and any required owner or manager agreement.
Are blankets, shrink wrap and tape charged separately?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Is unpacking the contents of cartons included?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
Can I ask for help with only the fragile items?
Yes. Describe the selected items and the work you want completed so it can be included in the estimate. Identify what you will pack yourself and keep the two responsibilities clear.
Can a hired crew use my resident transfer-station pass?
Hampden’s published residential transfer-station rules exclude commercial haulers. Do not assume your pass transfers to a hired crew. Discuss removal separately, including the items, price and an appropriate disposal route.
