Movers in Holden, ME
Sterling Oakbridge helps with moves to, from and within Holden, Maine. We plan the handling, packing and delivery around your belongings, the properties and the work you want completed.
01 /
Make the plan fit the move you are making
You may be changing homes within the Bangor area, arriving from another state or helping a family member move closer to you. A few pieces from a storage unit call for a different plan from a household spread across bedrooms, a basement and a shed.
Begin by deciding what is coming and where it will go. If several people are involved, agree who can make the final decision about an item, an extra stop or the delivery date. Keep anything still awaiting a decision separate from the load.
Still comparing properties? The Holden relocation guide covers local contacts, daily journeys and questions to take on a visit. Once the address is settled, the moving plan can account for its actual entrance and rooms.
02 /
Choose the help that makes a difference
Some customers want packing and moving handled together; others have packed most of the home and need help with the furniture or fragile contents. Tell us what you want finished at the end of the job, including any storage between properties.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
If you are downsizing, work from the destination room sizes before deciding what to send. Mark belongings going to relatives, donation recipients or a second property clearly. Each destination needs an agreed arrangement; a label by itself does not add a stop to the moving plan.
03 /
Look beyond the front door
Follow the route from the largest item to the place where the vehicle will stand. A porch landing, narrow interior turn or low ceiling can matter more than the overall room size. A side entrance may be useful, but check its steps and approach before assuming it is the easier route.
Photographs should show the whole transition: the room door and turn beyond it, both ends of a staircase, and the path outside. Measure the usable opening, including the position of the door. Leave decisions about removing doors, rails or fixed fittings until the owner and crew have agreed what is appropriate.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
Before arrival, keep the chosen route clear of loose belongings, delivery parcels and other contractors’ materials. Put pets somewhere secure and arrange a place for children to be away from the handling route.

04 /
Check where the vehicle can work
Show the driveway entrance, any slope, the surface and the space available to turn or leave. On a gravel approach, mention soft edges, drainage crossings or a section that becomes difficult after rain. The fact that a passenger car reaches the door does not establish the right plan for a loaded moving vehicle.
Holden’s Public Works department describes both paved and gravel roads and seasonal maintenance. Where road ownership or a restriction is unclear, use the relevant road authority to settle it. Permission to use a private drive does not reserve the public road beside it.
Keep enough room for unloading and the carrying route, not just the vehicle footprint. Agree the position with the owner or manager and keep other required access available. If that position changes before moving day, let us review the plan.

05 /
Plan the date and the route together
A key handover, closing appointment or building access window may fix the order of the day. Confirm who will be present at each address and how they can be reached. If the new property is not yet available, discuss that uncertainty while there is still time to arrange an alternative.
For a spring move, check the actual route against MaineDOT’s current posted-road and bridge information and any applicable local notices. Historical or expected postings are not the same as a current restriction. Share what affects the address so the vehicle and timing can be reviewed.
In winter, arrange clearing for the private driveway, steps and landing before delivery. Tell us if a storm changes what is usable. Snow removal, a safe working position and the owner’s access arrangements need to be settled rather than left until the vehicle arrives.
06 /
Pack for the first days as well as the journey
Start with belongings you rarely use and keep everyday necessities available until the last day. A small separate kit for the first night is easier to find than several boxes labelled “important.” Keep keys, medicines, documents and essential chargers with you.
Choose carton sizes for the contents. Books need small cartons; linens can use more space without creating the same weight. Protect fragile pieces individually and label cartons for the destination room. Keep an unfinished cupboard or a pile awaiting a decision out of the completed packing area.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
For equipment, tools or an appliance containing liquids, fuel or other uncertain contents, ask about preparation before adding it to the load.

07 /
Give the estimate one complete set of details
Send these together so the scope can be understood as a whole:
- Collection and delivery addresses, with any additional stop.
- An inventory, including storage spaces and unusual items.
- Your preferred dates and any fixed access or key times.
- The packing, storage and other help you want.
- Stairs, narrow openings, the proposed vehicle position and known road restrictions.
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Compare the written estimate with your plans before choosing the date. Record changes to the inventory, address or work rather than relying on a conversation someone else may not have heard. This keeps a family-organized move or a business relocation from developing several different versions of the job.
08 /
Give awkward items their own preparation
An awkward piece needs more than a place on the inventory. Note loose parts, existing damage and anything the crew should know before it is handled. Measure the route as well as the object: a cabinet that fits its new room may still meet a difficult turn on the way in.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Keep fittings together in a labelled container and decide who is responsible for specialist preparation. Moving an appliance does not by itself include disconnecting or installing it. Make those arrangements with the appropriate provider where required, and include only expressly agreed work in the move.
09 /
Keep the business usable through the change
For a shop, office or home business, decide what must be available first after delivery. Label workstations and stock destinations, and prepare a simple room plan. A box of cables and a working internet appointment may be more urgent than the last cabinet.
Confirm receiving hours, the person with access and any restrictions imposed by the building. If customers or staff will still be present, agree how the moving route will be kept separate from their normal activity. Keep confidential records, passwords and essential backups under your control.
Identify machinery or equipment requiring specialist preparation in advance. Arrange those providers around the move and allow for the point when the equipment is ready to be handled, rather than treating the appointment time as proof that preparation is complete.
10 /
Prepare for a gap between properties
Sometimes the old home must be emptied before the next one is ready. Tell us what is known and what remains uncertain so storage and later delivery can be discussed as part of the arrangement.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
Separate belongings you may need during the gap from those that can stay stored. Confirm how access, a revised delivery date and the associated charges would work. Choose a reachable person who can authorize a change if the key handover is delayed.
At the destination, mark the rooms and clear the spaces intended for larger furniture. This helps the load go to the right places while the crew is there, instead of leaving a second round of heavy rearranging for the evening.

11 /
Settle protection and the work after delivery
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
Walk through the rooms while placement can still be checked. Keep the agreed paperwork and use the stated process for anything needing attention. Decide which cartons you will unpack yourself and what remains for a separate visit or provider.
For unwanted furniture or leftover materials, use Holden’s waste-disposal contacts to check the suitable route. Ordinary household collection is not blanket permission for a move-out pile. Removal by the crew needs its own agreed scope and price.

Questions before you move
Can you handle a local Holden move or a move from another state?
Yes. Discuss the actual collection and delivery addresses and the help you need with Sterling Oakbridge. The plan and estimate depend on the agreed work, load, timing and access.
Can I ask for packing help for only selected belongings?
Yes. Identify the rooms or items you want help with and what you will prepare yourself. Keep those responsibilities clear so the estimate and the crew’s plan cover the same work.
What should I show you about a gravel or private approach?
Show its entrance, surface, slope, narrow points and the proposed working position. Mention soft sections, drainage crossings, gates or shared access. Vehicle access must be assessed for the actual load and conditions.
Does a posted road mean my move cannot go ahead?
It means the relevant restriction, road and vehicle need to be checked. Share the information early so a suitable route, vehicle or timing can be considered. Do not assume an automatic exemption or prohibition without checking what applies.
What if the new property is not ready on the agreed day?
Tell us as soon as a delay becomes possible. Discuss storage or revised delivery arrangements, access to essential belongings and how any change would affect the scope and charges.
Are blankets, shrink wrap and tape separate basic-material charges?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Does delivery include unpacking the contents of every carton?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
Can unwanted furniture go out with the household trash?
Check the actual item and collection arrangement with Holden’s waste contacts or the provider. Do not assume a bulky move-out item is included in ordinary cart collection. Removal by the moving crew must be agreed separately.
