Movers in Buzzards Bay, MA

Sterling Oakbridge helps Buzzards Bay households and businesses plan local and interstate moving, packing, storage and individually reviewed specialist work. Send your addresses, dates and inventory so the estimate reflects the move you need.

01 /

Plan the move around your household

A whole house, a rented apartment, a smaller home after downsizing and a business relocation need different inventories and schedules. Start with what is moving, what will stay and who can release and receive the shipment. Include the garage, attic, shed and stored seasonal items when those spaces are part of the job. A room count alone can miss the largest part of the work.

This page concerns Buzzards Bay, the census-designated place within the Town of Bourne in Barnstable County. It does not describe the entire water body called Buzzards Bay or every Bourne village. Town procedures and property permissions must be checked for the actual address. Our relocation guide covers choosing that address and everyday life; the Boston moving page is a regional service link, not a Buzzards Bay office.

Choose the work and delivery stages

Tell us whether you need carrying and transport, selected packing, a full pack before pickup, storage between addresses or a delivery with unpacking. If the origin is in another state, give us both addresses and the receiving restrictions there. A local pickup followed by storage and an interstate delivery should be described as separate stages so the responsibilities and timing can be reviewed together.

For a smaller receiving home, mark the items that must go directly to useful rooms and the ones whose destination is still undecided. For a rental, supply the lease start, authorized moving window and management contact. These details help determine staffing and preparation.

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

Review every doorway, turn and change of level

Photograph the route from a possible truck position to the final room, rather than sending only the front of the house. Show the driveway surface and slope, porch and landing, clear door opening, stair turns, basement route and any gate. Include the largest pieces beside the narrowest openings so we can decide which dimensions need a closer review. Send what you know; our planning team can recommend a suitable survey.

At a cottage, check low ceilings, a compact stair or an added storm door if they are present. At a larger house, a broad garage door does not establish that the garage-to-house doorway will pass the same item. At a shared building, an entrance can be available while the elevator or receiving room is locked. Agree who opens each part of the route and when. A furniture dolly is useful on a suitable level surface; gravel, steps and soft ground require another handling plan.

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Confirm the standing space before the carrying window

A usable private driveway can be an option after the owner and moving team confirm vehicle clearance, surface support, overhead obstacles and space to operate. It is not an automatic loading entitlement. Send a photo from the street, show the entrance and turning space, and identify anything under the ground that must be avoided. Keep an alternate authorized standing position in the plan if the first one becomes unavailable.

If loading affects a public road, sidewalk or another property, ask the responsible town office and property owner about the required approval for that exact place and date. Bourne DPW lists 508-759-0600 ext. 3; use the town contact to identify the relevant roadway owner and any police coordination. Record who requests approval, who grants it and the confirmed time. A submitted request or a gap in online instructions is not permission.

Check collection day as part of the layout: leave room for the town carts and collection vehicle without blocking the walking route. The curbside policy requires carts by 7 a.m., no earlier than 5 p.m. the previous day, with contents fully inside and lids closed. It does not reserve the public curb for the move.

Use suitable cartons for one room at a time

Decide what you will pack and what the crew should prepare before the carrying day. Keep books in small 1.5 cubic foot Book Boxes; a full book carton is heavy, so larger linen cartons are the wrong substitute. Medium cartons suit lighter linens and household contents, while dishes need appropriate paper and carton protection. Describe hanging clothing, framed art, fragile collections and anything that needs a separate packing method.

Mark each carton with its destination room and any handling instruction. Keep documents, medications, chargers and the first-night bag with you. Clear a stable packing surface and a floor route before the task starts. Separate items for disposal from the shipment, and do not load unknown paint, chemicals or fuel with household contents; discuss anything whose transport may be restricted before pickup.

Protect the part of the business that must reopen first

For an office, storefront or workshop, list desks, shelving, stock, records and equipment separately. Identify what must remain operational until closing and what is needed first at the new site. Confirm lease handover, door and loading access, building hours and the person authorized to receive each stage. Stock and customer records need an inventory owner; a room label alone may not identify what belongs to each workstation.

Agree a sequence that fits the receiving property and business hours. Ask your IT team to prepare the reconnection and startup plan, and have the relevant technician review appliances or specialist equipment. Utility connections, inspections and permission to operate are separate from moving the object. Our estimate should identify the handling task and technical work actually included.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Understand the estimate and changes in scope

Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.

Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

Your estimate is more useful when it includes the entire inventory, packing responsibilities, stairs, carrying distance, standing position, receiving window and storage stages. A truck delayed on the route, a key that arrives late or additional unpacked contents can change the time required. Send corrections before the affected work begins so they can be reviewed in writing.

For a downsizing move, mark which pieces go to the new home and which need another destination. For a shared building, specify an exclusive elevator reservation or a shared elevator honestly. For specialist furniture, provide the make, dimensions and required operation. A small house with a difficult route can require more preparation than a larger house with level access.

08 /

Arrange disposal separately from the shipment

Sort keep, donate, recycle and disposal items early enough to avoid treating the last cart collection as the only exit. Bourne curbside eligibility depends on the lot, residential use and permit conditions; it is not universal. Large items outside a cart are not a curbside solution. The 2026 residential recycling center policy has sticker, proof, vehicle and material restrictions, and acceptance can be suspended when containers cannot be replaced.

A household sticker is not automatic access for a commercial moving truck, a rental vehicle or business waste. Tell ISWM what you plan to bring and who will bring it before loading. Discuss company recycling, packaging removal or move-out cleaning as separately scoped work. Keep another approved disposal arrangement if facility access or acceptance changes, especially when a lease requires an empty property by a fixed time.

Agree pickup, receiving and protection

Direct and consolidated long-distance moving

Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.

Before the move, confirm the written inventory, packing plan, pickup and receiving contacts, access windows and authorized truck positions. Identify any item that needs a specialist method or a different delivery stage. On the day, walk the route with the crew lead and identify surfaces and objects that need protection before the first carry.

Label the receiving rooms and decide where large pieces belong before cartons fill the floor. Keep the hall and exit usable, then review the agreed placement and reassembly with the receiving person. Report a scope change promptly rather than expecting the original time estimate to cover new work.

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

10 /

Make the first useful rooms ready

Clear the agreed route and provide keys, codes and management contact details to the person responsible for access. Set aside the essentials that travel with you and separate the shipment from disposal piles. Protect pets and arrange childcare away from the load path. If collection day overlaps, make the cart position and truck approach work together without blocking either route.

At delivery, prioritize a usable bed, bathroom supplies, lighting and the items needed for meals or remote work. Decide where a protected piece will be unwrapped and assembled; box unpacking is a separate choice. Keep the remaining cartons in labeled groups clear of doors and heat sources. Tell the crew lead if a room or doorway is unavailable so placement can be adjusted before unloading fills the space.

Review the surface and the receiving route before rolling a load.

11 /

Allow for route and weather changes

Check road conditions and the actual approach for your chosen date, including any canal crossing the journey requires. A home on the mainland side does not necessarily require a bridge crossing for every trip; the origin and destination determine the route. Do not turn a typical drive or a historical commute average into a promised delivery time.

Summer and popular dates can reduce scheduling choices, while winter gives less daylight for outdoor work. Ask about availability early and offer another date if you can. Agree who clears and treats the walk, steps and landing before a winter arrival; wet or icy access may require a different method or time. Keep monitoring the actual forecast and route instead of relying on a seasonal illustration.

12 /

Resolve delayed keys before pickup

If possession or keys slip, contact the moving team before the truck leaves the origin. Agree whether pickup changes, a storage stage is needed or delivery can use a revised authorized window. Confirm availability and charges for the changed plan; storage is not an automatic fallback included in every booking. Keep essential medications, documents, clothing and equipment out of a shipment you may not receive immediately.

If the truck position or elevator becomes unavailable, use only an alternative approved by the responsible owner and reviewed for safe handling. If weather closes the route, agree who communicates the next decision and when. If cleanout fails, use a separately approved disposal plan that still meets the lease or sale deadline. Write down the decision owner, contact and trigger for each backup, not just a second date.

Send the details you have

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Send both addresses, target dates and alternatives, a room-by-room inventory, the work you want us to do, photographs of restricted access and the person receiving the delivery. Include garage, shed and attic contents when relevant, and flag storage, fragile items and building conditions. We can then identify what needs a closer survey and prepare an estimate for the agreed scope.

Questions before you move

Can you help with a Buzzards Bay household or business move?

We offer local and interstate household moving, commercial moving, packing, storage and individually reviewed specialist work. Send the exact addresses, inventory, dates and access restrictions so we can review the scope.

Is a local time estimate a fixed total?

Most local moves are hourly. Estimated hours help plan staffing and the day; time can change with access, traffic, readiness or added work. Your written estimate identifies the terms and separate charges.

What is included with furniture and packing materials?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Can you unpack and take away packing waste?

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

Can a moving truck simply use the curb?

Confirm the actual standing position, roadway owner and any town or property permission before moving day. A private driveway also needs clearance and surface review. Collection rules do not reserve the curb.

What happens if keys are delayed?

Contact the planning team before pickup. Agree a revised window or separately confirmed storage stage and charges. Keep personal essentials out of any shipment you may not receive immediately.

Can the household recycling sticker cover a cleanout truck?

Do not assume that it can. Bourne’s residential policy restricts vehicles, users and materials and excludes business waste. Confirm the actual load and vehicle with ISWM and have removal scoped separately.

What should I send for an estimate?

Both addresses, dates and alternatives, a full inventory, packing responsibilities, photos of access, receiving contacts and any building restrictions. Flag storage and specialist work early.
