Movers in Nashua, NH

A Nashua move needs a workable route from the room to the truck, and from the truck into the next home. Sterling Oakbridge provides moving, packing and storage services for households and businesses. Send both addresses, the inventory and possible dates so we can review the work, the loading arrangement and the receiving window together.

Plan the move around your actual home

An upstairs bedroom in a wood-frame house, an apartment with a shared entrance and a home with a garage create different jobs. Count everything that will travel, including cellar shelving contents, outdoor furniture and the boxes already stored away. Identify things staying behind before the estimate: carrying a dresser downstairs to discard it is different work from delivering it to another bedroom.

Nashua's older residential streets include varied detached houses with porches and short approaches. The National Park Service's Nashville Historic District photographs provide historical architectural context for this part of Nashua, New Hampshire. They do not establish the condition or dimensions of a present home. For your move, a brief walkthrough from the loading position to each room is more useful than the exterior alone.

Use these examples to prepare the right information:

  • An apartment above a shared entrance: show the street door, the turn at its threshold, every flight and landing, and the final unit door. Identify who can authorize the shared route and keep it available.
  • A house with bedrooms upstairs and storage below: separate the floor-by-floor inventory. Photograph the cellar exit and the largest assembled furniture beside the route it would use. A first-floor pickup does not describe the whole house.
  • A home closing followed by an afternoon delivery: distinguish the expected closing time from actual permission to enter. Name the person who will release the keys and the person who can decide what happens if that release is delayed.

These are planning examples, rather than completed customer moves or promises of a particular duration.

Choose the work you want included

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

Decide whether you need transportation with your own packed boxes, selected fragile-item packing, or preparation of the whole household. Include large furniture, artwork, plants and unusual equipment in the initial description. The crew needs to know what will be ready for collection and which preparation tasks belong to its scope.

A move between Nashua and Manchester stays within New Hampshire if the actual route and shipment do. A move between Nashua and Lowell or Boston crosses a state line. Describe the actual origin and destination; a short distance does not turn an interstate household-goods move into a local move within one state. Each estimate reviews the actual shipment, route and receiving arrangements.

Coordinate a business move with the people receiving it

Moving desks and packed records requires a receiving plan as well as a loading plan. Name the person authorized to release the goods, the person who will open the destination, and the manager responsible for any shared corridor or loading area. Separate the items that must arrive first from items that can remain packed until later.

For example, a small office might need its reception furniture and labeled records placed in the correct rooms before staff return. Provide the room plan and label the items accordingly. Transportation and placement do not establish that computers, network connections or specialist equipment will be commissioned and ready for use. Assign that technical work separately.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

04 /

Show the complete carrying route

Begin at the actual truck position. Include the sidewalk crossing, gate, outside steps, porch landing, entrance door, hallway, stairs or elevators, and the doorway into the receiving room. Include the second elevator or intermediate stair if there is one; an elevator somewhere in the building does not make the entire route step-free.

Give clear door openings, furniture dimensions and photographs of restrictive turns. Keep the height and depth of a tall cabinet in the description, rather than sending only its width. Tell us if the furniture has removable parts and whether building rules allow preparation in the room. Do not remove a door, railing or architectural trim on the assumption that it will be permitted.

Where management controls access, obtain the allowed work hours, elevator booking, protection requirements and document instructions. Establish who will unlock doors and how the crew will reach that person on the day. A reservation request is still pending until the manager confirms it. Keep residents' shared access and required exit routes usable while the move proceeds.

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Arrange the loading space before dispatch

At a metered location, ordinary payment and an official reservation are different things. Nashua's parking-meter ordinance, §320-47B, allows the Parking Department to issue meter bags or cones at its discretion for temporary circumstances. It lists advance daily charges per space of $18 in Zone I, $12 in Zone II and $9 in Zone III. The initial issue cannot exceed two weeks; an extension requires an application. These are municipal space charges, rather than the price of moving services.

Start with the Parking Department's permit inquiry route: Parking@NashuaNH.gov or 603-589-3205, option 6. Provide the address, street side, dates, hours and proposed space needed for the vehicle and loading operation. Obtain the actual approved arrangement, including how the space will be marked, before relying on it. The ordinance does not publish a universal booking deadline or guarantee approval. A customer cone or another payment at a time-limited meter does not create that authorization.

Planned obstruction of the City right of way has a separate Engineering Permit to Encumber application. Its March 2026 form includes moving-related uses, requires a minimum of three days for approval, an insurance certificate and a dimensioned drawing, and states that this permit has no fee. It is valid only with the approved signature and City-assigned number. Parking-space obstruction still requires Parking Department approval; the no-fee statement does not waive meter-bag charges.

If the proposal affects pedestrian passage, a lane or a street, bring that scope to Engineering at 603-589-3120 or EngROWPermits@NashuaNH.gov. The form requires an approved pedestrian detour for sidewalk closure and a traffic-control plan for relevant obstruction. Road closures require at least a week's notice; lane-closure clauses have different notice periods for different circumstances. Have Engineering set the applicable conditions. The three-day application minimum does not promise that a street closure can be arranged within three days.

For ordinary loading without a planned obstruction, establish the lawful stopping position and actual restrictions with the responsible department. For a private driveway, obtain the property owner's permission and verify vehicle access. Neither arrangement authorizes blocking a sidewalk, removing City barriers or assuming the truck will fit beneath a garage entrance.

Pack for the rooms you will use first

Labor, materials and optional work

Basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyPart of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee
Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tapeNo separate charge for these basic protection materials
Boxes supplied for your moveCharged separately
PackingCharged for working time; boxes are separate
Unwrapping furniturePart of delivery
Unpacking the contents of boxesOptional work, charged for working time

Complex furniture and other specialist workIndividually quoted after review

Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

Label boxes with the destination room and a short description of the contents. Put the kettle, a small set of dishes, bed linen, bathroom supplies and other first-night essentials in clearly identified boxes. Keep medicines, identification, keys and necessary personal documents with you. Tell the estimator which rooms or item groups need professional packing rather than leaving that decision until loading starts.

Keep clean packing materials separate from material being discarded. Nashua's Solid Waste FAQ says City carts and bins stay at their assigned property. It also distinguishes regular household curbside trash from clean-out or move-out waste, which must go directly to Four Hills with the required permit. A pile left beside the bins is not a move-out collection arrangement.

Bulky-item collection has its own seasonal appointment process. The City's current oversize-item page states that the final request date for the 2026 season was October 16, with collections ending October 23. A move after the request deadline needs another confirmed disposal arrangement. Do not assume a newly requested curbside pickup can be added to that season.

Understand what changes the estimate

Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.

Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

Two homes with the same bedroom count can require different work. Boxes ready beside an approved ground-floor loading route are different from loose belongings spread between an attic, cellar and upstairs rooms. A long carry from a lawful truck position is part of the job. An unapproved closer position is not a legitimate saving.

Separate company charges from building deposits, municipal space charges and any separately arranged disposal or storage costs. Ask for the agreed scope and price basis in writing. If access changes, have the changed work and cost conditions explained before proceeding.

Confirm the sequence and a usable backup

Direct and consolidated long-distance moving

Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.

Write down the pickup window, the expected travel sequence and the confirmed receiving window. The two buildings do not need identical booking times; they need a sequence the move can actually meet. Identify any preparation allowed before a short loading slot, such as packing inside the unit, without assuming permission to fill a shared hallway.

Set the backup decision before dispatch or before the last opportunity to retain an alternative. A missing permit, unavailable elevator or unreleased keys is a concrete trigger. The customer or authorized property representative must make the access decision with the moving coordinator; a crew at the curb cannot grant building or municipal permission.

Choose an alternative that has actually been accepted: a different lawful loading position, a revised receiving slot, a changed moving date, or separately confirmed storage and later delivery. Record the additional carrying work, labor, waiting, storage and redelivery conditions that would apply. Arrange where people will stay and who will receive the goods. Delivery resumes when the destination, access window and responsible receiver are confirmed. A storage phone number or an expected key handover is not a reserved resource.

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

09 /

Choose dates around access and seasonal conditions

Offer several dates that work with your lease, closing and the people authorizing access. If you can separate packing from transportation, identify the day preparation can occur and the rooms available for it. School calendars or work commitments may narrow your choices. Use confirmed crew and building availability, and the written estimate, to compare the dates.

Nashua's street-sweeping program normally runs from April 1 to December 1, weather permitting. The program description does not establish the restriction on your particular block. Use current signs and City instructions when confirming the loading position.

During winter, check the City's emergency notification information for the alert service used for snow-related parking bans and emergency road closures. An ordinary overnight parking permit or exception is a separate matter. Keep the approach cleared and usable, and agree who will handle snow or ice at each property before the crew arrives.

10 /

Prepare the home for moving day

Clear the agreed route and keep packed items inside the authorized staging area. Protect pets from open doors and moving activity. Keep children and visitors outside the carrying route. Make the receiver's phone number available and retain access to the destination until the final placement is complete.

Review the inventory and room labels with the crew. Point out items staying behind, especially if they resemble items being moved. Discuss a damaged item or a new access obstacle when it is discovered, rather than hiding it beneath a packing blanket or continuing with an unusable route.

At delivery, use the agreed room plan to direct furniture and boxes. Keep the doorway and the path to larger furniture clear as smaller items are placed. Check the delivered inventory and record visible concerns using the move's documents. Receiving the goods and accepting a particular protection option are separate decisions.

Send the details that make an estimate useful

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Send both addresses with unit and floor, possible dates, the inventory and photographs or video of each complete route. Include packing requirements, large or delicate pieces, extra stops and the work required at delivery. Attach the building's instructions and describe the status of loading permission, elevator booking and keys accurately: requested, confirmed or still unresolved.

If the move crosses a state line, say so even when the destination is nearby. For interstate household-goods transportation, the FMCSA explanation of liability protection distinguishes valuation choices and their conditions. Describe valuable items early so the relevant written terms can be reviewed before transportation.

The next step is a review of this actual move and its scope. A completed inquiry does not itself reserve municipal space, confirm building access or book a moving date.

Questions before you move

What information should I send first?

Send both addresses, unit and floor, possible dates, an inventory and the packing work you want included. Add photographs of the route from a realistic loading position to the rooms, plus the status of keys, elevators and loading permission. Those details distinguish the actual job from a bedroom-count estimate.

Can you move a small apartment as well as a whole house?

Yes. Describe the shipment and preparation work for either size. For an apartment, include shared doors and stairs; for a house, include cellar, attic, garage and outdoor items. A small shipment can still have a difficult route, while a large shipment may have straightforward access.

Does a porch photograph establish that my furniture will fit?

No. It shows only part of the route. Provide the door opening, landings, turns, internal stairs or elevators and the final room entrance, together with the furniture's width, height and depth. The narrowest transition can matter more than the front steps.

Can I reserve metered space for the truck?

Nashua provides a discretionary official meter-bag or cone process through its Parking Department. Ask the department to approve the actual address, footprint and hours before relying on the space. Ordinary meter payment gives neither a reservation nor permission to exceed a time limit.

What are the City's meter-bag charges?

The published ordinance lists $18 per day per space in Zone I, $12 in Zone II and $9 in Zone III, paid in advance, with an initial issue of no more than two weeks. Have Parking confirm the actual zone and approved arrangement. These municipal charges are separate from your moving estimate.

Can I hold a space with my own cones?

Your own cones do not establish a City-approved reservation. Use the Parking Department's authorization and marking instructions. Do not move existing City cones or barriers to create space for the truck.

Does every move require the Engineering permit?

The form addresses planned obstruction of the City right of way; its moving-related categories do not make it a universal permit for every ordinary pickup. Bring the proposed occupation to Engineering, and obtain separate Parking approval where spaces are affected. A container, staging area or closure needs its actual scope reviewed.

How far ahead must a container or obstruction be arranged?

The current Engineering application requires a minimum of three days for approval, an insurance certificate and a dimensioned drawing. That minimum is not guaranteed approval. Street closures require at least a week's notice and other conditions, so an urgent move may need a different date or a lawful alternative that does not depend on the proposed obstruction.

Is the Engineering permit free?

The application states there is no fee for that permit. It does not waive separate Parking charges or any other costs applicable to the approved operation. Its insurance and traffic-control requirements also remain in effect when they apply.

Can the moving truck stay on the street overnight?

Do not plan overnight truck storage from a residential guest-parking exception. Nashua has separate overnight street limits and designated permit areas, and exceptions are discretionary. Confirm a lawful commercial-vehicle location with the responsible authority before including an overnight stay in the moving plan.

What happens if the nearest loading position is unavailable?

Use a confirmed lawful alternative or revise the move. A farther position may add carrying work; an obstruction or closure may need additional approval. Make the access and cost decision with the authorized customer or property representative and moving coordinator before dispatch whenever possible.

Can packing happen before a short elevator slot?

Yes, when the agreed work and building rules allow preparation inside the home before the slot. The elevator and shared route still need confirmation for the carrying period. Early packing does not authorize storing boxes in a hallway or occupying the elevator outside its booking.

Are basic furniture assembly and packing materials included?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

Should I pack everything myself before requesting an estimate?

No. First identify which rooms or items you want packed professionally and which boxes you will prepare yourself. Include the materials and preparation work in the agreed scope. Keep essential medicines, identification, keys and important personal documents with you.

Can I take Nashua's trash carts to the new address?

No. The City's carts and bins remain at the property to which they are assigned. Keep them there even if you own both properties. Arrange the new home's collection access with its responsible owner or provider.

Can move-out waste go beside my regular trash cart?

No. Nashua distinguishes regular household collection from clean-out or move-out waste. Its FAQ directs move-out waste to Four Hills with the required permit. A separately agreed company disposal service does not make an unarranged pile eligible for municipal curbside collection.

Can I book a new bulky-item pickup late in October 2026?

The City's final request date for that season was October 16, with collections ending October 23. After that request deadline, plan permitted drop-off or another confirmed disposal arrangement. Do not leave items out expecting a new seasonal appointment to be added.

Can a hired hauler use my residential landfill permit?

Do not assume it can. Four Hills lists residential and commercial permits separately, and commercial haulers must have a permit for each vehicle and bring waste generated in Nashua. Confirm the responsible party, eligibility and charges for the actual disposal service.

Is a Nashua-to-Boston move interstate even though it is nearby?

Yes. The shipment crosses from New Hampshire into Massachusetts. Identify the actual origin and destination so the estimate and transportation documents match the work. Rules for a move wholly within Massachusetts are not automatically the rules for a move beginning in Nashua.

Is the estimated number of local moving hours a maximum charge?

No. A local hourly estimate plans the expected work; minimum or estimated hours do not cap the final charge. Inventory, packing and access changes can affect the work required. Review the price basis and changed scope before authorizing additional work.

What keeps a long-distance flat-rate agreement applicable?

The agreed shipment and service scope must remain accurate. Report added furniture, extra packing, changed access or another stop so the agreement can be reviewed. A flat-rate description is not permission to add work without changing the agreed terms.

What if the destination keys or elevator are delayed?

Use the backup arranged before the original plan fails: an accepted later slot, revised date or confirmed storage and redelivery. Name who can approve the change, where people and goods will go, and the additional cost conditions. Resume delivery once the receiver and access are confirmed.

Does valuation mean that my belongings have an insurance policy?

No. Valuation and an insurance policy are different arrangements. For interstate moves, the FMCSA resource explains Full Value Protection and the conditions for choosing Released Value. Review the actual documents, limits and valuable-item requirements before transportation.

Can a snow emergency change an approved moving plan?

Yes. A parking ban, road closure or unsafe approach can make the original loading plan unusable. Check the City's current alerts and the actual property conditions; agree a lawful alternative or revised date with the moving coordinator and access decision-maker. An ordinary parking permission is not a guarantee against an emergency restriction.

Does sending the estimate form book the move?

No. It starts review of your shipment, work and access requirements. The moving date and service agreement require confirmation, while municipal permissions, building access and receiving arrangements retain their own approval steps.
