Movers in Marathon, NY
An upstairs apartment, a house with a full cellar and a shop changing premises each need a different plan. Sterling Oakbridge handles moves to, from and within Marathon, with the work built around your belongings, the two properties and what you want ready at delivery.
01 /
Decide what travels, what stays and what needs another stop
Walk through the property before making the final inventory. Include the cellar, loft, garage and any belongings stored elsewhere. Mark what belongs to the landlord or stays with the sale so it does not get mixed into the packing.
You may be moving the whole household, combining two homes or taking selected pieces to a smaller place. If furniture goes to more than one destination, separate those groups and identify the receiving contact at each stop. The useful plan is the one that matches those decisions.
For an address you are still considering, our Marathon relocation guide helps you check the local arrangements alongside the rooms themselves.
02 /
Choose the work you want handled
Decide how much preparation you want to do yourself. You can ask about packing the full home or selected items, moving the prepared shipment and helping at the receiving end. Make that division clear before the work is priced.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
For a partial move, leave a clear route to the selected pieces and label the things that stay. If the home remains occupied, identify the areas people still need to use during loading.

Put the important details into one estimate request
Send both addresses, your preferred date, an inventory and the tasks you want completed. Add photographs of bulky items and the access at each property, including stairs, doorways and proposed vehicle positions. Include extra stops, packing, storage and separate removal work in the same request.
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Compare the included work and charging basis, not just the number at the bottom. Tell us if the inventory or receiving address changes before moving day so the plan can be reviewed with the new information.

Look at the staircase before deciding on the furniture
An upstairs room may fit a cabinet that cannot comfortably turn on its landing. Measure usable door openings, stair width and the space at each change of direction. Include handrails, low ceilings and fixed fittings in the photographs.
Start the access record outside: show the route from the vehicle position to the entrance, then continue through the building. For a cellar or loft, record that separate route as well. A few ordered photographs explain more than an isolated picture of the final room.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
In a shared building, establish which entrance and delivery hours are available with the responsible manager. Discuss any proposed removal of doors or fittings with the owner before treating it as part of the plan.

05 /
Make the loading position as clear as the street address
A front door on Main Street may not be the entrance used for deliveries. Ask about rear access, shared yards and any other businesses or residents who need that space. Confirm the permitted arrangement before depending on it.
Show the proposed standing surface, turning room and overhead clearance. Leave working space at the back of the vehicle and a clear pedestrian route. The mover needs to review the position for the vehicle involved; room for a parked car does not settle the question.
If loading requires use of a public-road position, confirm the arrangement with the authority responsible for that road. The Village of Marathon office is a starting contact for a village address. Outside the village, establish the municipality first rather than relying on ZIP 13803 alone.

06 /
Pack for the rooms you will use next
Group belongings by destination and by the protection they need. Keep a small, separate set of essentials for the first evening and following morning. Medication, personal documents, keys and travel items should remain accessible to you.
Books belong in small book cartons. Keep a manageable weight and do not fill a large linen carton with them. Pack fragile objects separately from heavy items, protect their surfaces and label the room as well as any handling concern.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
If you are preparing part of the shipment yourself, agree what will be ready before loading starts. Loose shelving, lamps, contents of drawers and items still in daily use deserve their own place in the packing schedule.

Flag the pieces that need an individual discussion
Identify unusually heavy, delicate or awkward pieces early. Send photographs, dimensions and access details, together with anything known about the material or construction. A piano, artwork or a specialist item should not first appear as a surprise at the door.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Keep the maker’s instructions or existing condition information where relevant. Explain what you want done, then confirm the agreed handling and preparation instead of assuming every specialist task is included in ordinary moving labor.
08 /
Keep the next working day in view
For a shop, office or home workspace, divide the move by what must be usable first. Identify the desks, stock and equipment needed for reopening, then group the remaining items by destination.
Agree receiving access, building contacts and any loading window. Label furniture and cartons to a simple floor plan, and assign someone to answer placement questions. Keep essential business records and items requiring special custody under the appropriate person’s control.
Coordinate technical disconnection, installation and reconnection with the responsible providers. A moving plan can account for those appointments without assuming the crew will perform unrelated technical work.
09 /
Leave room for the handover to change
Start planning before the last packing day. Distinguish the date you hope to move from the date the receiving property will actually be available. Confirm keys, any building arrangements and who can meet the shipment.
If a closing, repair or tenancy handover could slip, discuss an alternative before the truck is loaded. Storage may form part of a revised plan; keep the belongings needed during the gap separate from the shipment going into it.
Tell us promptly when timing changes. A flexible date range can help the conversation about availability, but the final arrangement still needs to be confirmed.
10 /
Know what a finished delivery means to you
Have the receiving rooms marked and decide where the larger pieces should go. Keep the route clear of contractor supplies or items waiting to be removed. One available contact helps resolve placement questions while the work is underway.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
Review the agreed tasks before the crew leaves and note anything that needs follow-up. Getting the bed, a seat and a few everyday essentials ready may matter more that evening than opening every carton.

11 /
Agree protection and any separate work
Discuss the handling needs of the shipment and the protection choices that apply to your move. Keep the agreed scope and relevant documents together so questions can be addressed against the same information.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
Removal of unwanted belongings or packaging needs its own agreed destination and scope. A moving booking does not by itself establish what a recycling or disposal facility will accept.

Questions before you move
Can you move a household within Marathon or from another state?
Yes. We provide local and interstate moving. The estimate should reflect the belongings, requested work and access at both properties.
What should I send for an upstairs apartment move?
Include the inventory, usable door and stair measurements, landing photographs and the entrance approved for delivery. Show the complete route from the vehicle position.
Can the truck load from the rear of a Main Street building?
That depends on the actual access and the arrangement with the responsible owner or authority. Show the proposed position before relying on it.
Can you pack only the books and fragile items?
Yes. Identify the items needing packing help and what you will prepare yourself. Agree that division when requesting the estimate.
Are basic assembly and protection materials separate charges?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you help unpack and remove packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What if the keys are not available on the planned date?
Tell us promptly so storage and a revised delivery can be discussed. Keep the belongings needed during the gap separate from the stored shipment.
Is disposal of unwanted furniture part of every move?
No. Arrange removal work, its destination and charging basis separately. Check acceptance with the receiving facility before committing to that plan.
