Movers in Monroe, NY
Sterling Oakbridge movers help Monroe homes, townhomes and businesses with local and interstate moves, packing, storage and specialist services. Share your addresses, dates and inventory so we can review the work and prepare your estimate.
01 /
Start with the route and the work you need
Monroe is an Orange County village inside the Town of Monroe. Your move may be a house, an apartment, a business address or an interstate shipment. Tell us both addresses, your dates and which spaces and items are included. A basement, garage or home office adds work only when it is part of your actual inventory.
The Monroe relocation guide covers housing, utilities, schools and local procedures; this page covers the move itself.
02 /
Choose the moving help you need
Choose the help your shipment needs: local moving with the packing level you want, storage between a sale and a closing, specialist care for fragile or high-value pieces, or an interstate shipment with an agreed price for the unchanged scope. Each is a different scope of work, so the estimate starts from what you actually need rather than a package.
Local moving covers Monroe and the surrounding Orange County communities — Harriman, Central Valley, Chester and Woodbury included. Long-distance moving covers interstate shipments. If your move needs both — for example, a house into storage, then delivery to another state — say so at the start so the stages are priced and scheduled together.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |

Plan a Monroe business move around your hours
Monroe's business addresses sit along the village blocks and the Route 17 corridor — shops, services, medical and professional offices. A commercial move here ranges from a small suite to a storefront, and the constraint is usually your operating hours.
Send us the inventory of workstations, shelving and equipment, the access at both ends, and your operating constraints — which hours you can be offline and what must run first at the new address. We plan the sequence so the interruption stays short.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Plan the carry from the truck to the room
The access survey follows the actual property: driveway, entry, stair turns and any basement route. Measure the entry, the stair width and the landing depth before assuming a piece fits — big houses still have fixed pinch points.
Two local checks belong in the survey. Where an association manages the property, its written rules on trucks and move windows come before the day. And the truck position on the driveway — turnaround and any slope — is set from photos, not assumed.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

05 /
Confirm the truck position and village restrictions
Plan the truck position from photos of the street, driveway and carrying route, then confirm permission and current signs. For a village street, ask Village Hall at 845-782-8341 about any required loading arrangement; a driveway needs the owner’s permission and usable standing and departure space. Photos do not reserve the curb.
Village Public Works posts a curbside parking ban from 10 pm to 6 am, November 1 through March 31. Its road-easement guidance also requires the maintenance area to remain usable. Check the actual location and date before arranging a stop.
Keep entrances, sidewalks and collection receptacles accessible. The Monroe parking section connects these checks with household preparation.

Choose packing, furniture preparation and specialist care
Packing help scales from a few fragile cartons to a full pack. Your inventory may include a kitchen, a basement rec room, a home office or a garage of gear — tell us which spaces are in scope so the materials match the work: books in small book boxes, wardrobes for closet contents, divided cartons for dishes.
Sort what stays, travels with you, goes into storage or leaves the property before packing begins. Empty furniture and remove loose contents and removable inserts before protection; discuss disassembly and specialist pieces with the crew. Arrange unwanted-item disposal separately before moving week.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

What affects your Monroe moving cost
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Locally, the practical cost drivers in Monroe are access and volume. A colonial with a finished basement is a different job from a townhome; a long carry from a worked-out position lengthens every trip. The packing level you choose, disassembly, specialist pieces and any storage stage each change the total. The estimate reflects the work you describe — accurate floors, stairs and a real inventory make it accurate.
A change in inventory, access, packing or delivery stages changes the work; tell us before the date so the estimate can be reviewed.

From the first conversation to placement
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
The review starts with your two addresses, dates and inventory. Before moving day we confirm the scope in writing: what is packed by whom, the access plan at both ends, where the truck stands, any association's windows, and the timing windows, including the backup plan if a closing or a storm moves the date.
When the day comes, the crew works the confirmed scope: protect the route, load in the agreed order, place room by room at the destination, and reassemble what was disassembled for the route.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
09 /
Plan the date and an agreed backup
Book the date early and hold an agreed backup if keys or weather change the plan. Confirm current village event and street notices for the actual day. In winter, arrange clearing of the private approach and carrying route, and account for the overnight curb restriction described in truck parking.
If furniture is leaving the property, the guide’s disposal section distinguishes the seasonal bulk service from other materials. Confirm the service you will use before moving week.
10 /
Prepare for the day you actually booked
Before the crew arrives, clear the driveway to its full width and decide where the truck stands so doors and the ramp have room — and on collection day, keep the curb working for the route (the town's rules keep vehicles clear of the receptacles). Inside, clear the main walking route and set aside the items that travel with you — documents, medications, chargers, the kettle. In an association, confirm the move window is on file.
At the house, walk the route with the crew lead before the first carry: which entrance, which stairs, where the staging area is. A suitable clear level route can support dolly work; the crew plans the carrying stage for steps and tight turns. Keep the path free of rugs, clutter and parked cars. If something changes mid-day — weather, a delayed key handover — say it early; the plan adjusts better in the morning than in the afternoon.

Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
The more concrete the request, the more useful the answer: both addresses, preferred dates plus an alternative, the inventory or a room-by-room outline (basement, garage and office included), the entry and any tight turns, packing expectations, and anything fragile or oversized. Photos of the largest pieces, the driveway and the stairs help us price the actual work. For an interstate shipment, ask for the carrier's legal operating name and written terms; the federal Protect Your Move checklist explains what interstate movers must provide.

Questions before you move
Can I book a move entirely within Monroe?
Yes. We provide local moving within Monroe and the surrounding Orange County communities — Harriman, Central Valley, Chester and Woodbury. Send both addresses, your dates, inventory and access details so we can plan the crew and work required.
Where does the moving truck park at a Monroe home?
Plan from the street and driveway photos, then confirm current signs and any required loading arrangement with Village Hall at 845-782-8341. A driveway requires property permission. Village curbside parking is prohibited 10 pm–6 am, November 1–March 31.
How do I get rid of things I am not taking?
The Town’s 2026 collection page lists village refuse Monday and Thursday and village bulk Thursday in its April–December season, one bulk item per week. Confirm your address and holiday changes. Ask 845-782-8583 about items outside the accepted channels; do not treat every cleanout item as ordinary refuse.
Who provides water and sewer in Monroe?
Village Public Works handles village water; billing questions go to 845-782-8341 ext. 122. Confirm account responsibility and the possession-date reading or transfer. The Town water-district page concerns its named districts, not every village account. Confirm the property’s sewer arrangement separately; the Town sewer page points to Orange County Sewer District No. 1.
Where do Monroe children go to school?
Start with Monroe-Woodbury district registration before the first school day. Confirm your address, grade placement and required records with the district. For elementary attendance-boundary questions, its 2026 notice gives Transportation 845-460-6010 ext. 10213. A village boundary or nearby school does not establish assignment.
How is the price of a Monroe move set?
Local moves are priced on the labor and time the work needs — volume, access (stairs, entries, the carry from the truck), packing level and any storage stage all shape it. Long-distance shipments carry an agreed price that holds while the shipment and scope stay as agreed. The estimate reflects the detail you give us.
Are basic furniture assembly and packing materials included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
