Movers in Riverhead, NY
The front door is only the beginning of the route. Sterling Oakbridge plans your Riverhead move around the belongings, the access at both properties and the work you want completed when everything arrives.
01 /
Start with one clear inventory
List what is leaving each room, then include the belongings that are easy to miss: the garage shelves, stored furniture, outdoor equipment and anything collected from another address. Mark items going to storage or a different destination separately.
Send the complete origin and destination, proposed dates and the help you want with packing and delivery. A Riverhead postal address does not tell us whether the property has a shared vestibule, a narrow stair or a long carry from the vehicle.
For a household combining, separating or downsizing, agree what travels with whom before packing begins. Keep anything undecided outside the moving group until the people responsible have settled it.
02 /
Choose the work you want completed
You can prepare your own cartons, ask for selected-item packing or arrange a full pack. At delivery, decide which rooms should be usable first and whether you need help beyond placing and unwrapping the furniture.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Describe a small shipment by its actual pieces, and a move in stages by each pickup and destination. This makes the estimate useful for the job you have, whether it is a few items, a household or a workplace.

Compare estimates for the same job
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Include the conditions that change the work: two successive doors at an apartment entrance, a stair turn, a long carry, unfinished packing, an extra stop or a delayed receiving window. A broad driveway or a small home should not be treated as proof that access will be straightforward.
When comparing estimates, give each company the same inventory and access details. Check labor, cartons, storage, specialist work and removal separately, and ask how changes or waiting would be charged.
04 /
Look beyond the first doorway
At a shared entrance, photograph both doors, their swings and the space between them. The outer opening may be wide enough while the inner door or a turn in the vestibule controls whether a long piece can pass.
Continue through the hallway to stairs, landings, lifts and the destination room. Measure the furniture as well as the narrow points. Identify anything that may need disassembly or another agreed route before moving day.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
Confirm who can open the required doors and how other residents will keep access during the work. A door removal or alternative entrance needs the responsible property contact’s agreement.

05 /
Agree a usable vehicle position
Show the proposed position, approach, surface, overhead clearance and room to turn or leave. The truck must suit the shipment and the site; a private drive, shared parking bay or space at the curb each needs its own review.
Ask the owner or manager which areas may be used and keep entrances and pedestrian routes available. Where standing in the street, reserving space or affecting traffic is involved, confirm the requirements with the responsible authority before relying on the position.
Collection arrangements belong in the timing check. The town’s Sanitation page lists different household-trash days across six sub-districts and Wednesday recycling for the district service. Apartments, condominiums, mobile homes and businesses arrange their own collection. Use the arrangement for the actual property when planning where containers and the moving vehicle will stand.

06 /
Prepare the contents, not just the cartons
Set aside the things that must stay with you: keys, documents, medication, chargers and first-night essentials. Label other cartons by destination room and identify anything that could be placed in storage.
Books belong in small book cartons; larger linen cartons suit lighter, bulky contents. Dishes need suitable cartons, individual wrapping and cushioning. Keep the weight and contents practical for handling rather than filling every box simply because space remains.
For a full kitchen pack, say what still needs to be used before departure. Keep a small essentials set apart so the crew can complete the rest without repeatedly reopening cartons.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

07 /
Separate decisions from moving-day work
For several people sharing one home, use clear destination labels and agree who can authorise each part of the shipment. A quick room plan helps distinguish what stays, what moves and what goes to a separately arranged removal.
If someone needs a familiar chair, mobility equipment, a quiet room or a working desk immediately, put that need into the placement order. Keep children and pets with a responsible person away from the carrying route.
Handle uncertain disposal before the truck arrives. The town’s yard-waste and special-collection channels are for defined materials; they are not a general destination for everything left after a move.
08 /
Build the date around both handovers
Confirm when the old property must be empty and when the receiving property can actually accept the shipment. Include any packing day, building access window and person responsible for keys. A closing date and usable access are not always the same event.
Our experience across the service area is that summer and the end and beginning of the month are busier, with another rise around mid-month. That is a planning observation, not a Riverhead availability guarantee. Ask about dates early and keep an alternative where possible.
If weather, access or a handover changes, contact the planning team before the affected work begins. Agree who can receive the shipment and what happens if the original delivery arrangement is no longer available.
09 /
Make a workable plan for a gap
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
If the next home is delayed, discuss a storage stage or another available delivery arrangement. Agree the handling, timing, access to stored items and charges before treating it as the backup plan.
Keep documents and daily essentials outside the storage group. Identify furniture or work equipment you may need first, because retrieving an item from a stored shipment can require a separate arrangement.
10 /
Reopen the workplace in a useful order
For an office, shop or other business, list workstations, stock, shelving and equipment, then identify what must function first at the destination. Decide who receives the shipment and which parts of the operation can be unavailable during the move.
Review customer entrances, shared corridors, loading areas and any building time limits. Access can be as important as the opening hours, even for a small workplace. Keep confidential records and essential business items under the arrangements agreed by the people responsible.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
11 /
Keep the agreed route ready
Before the first item moves, walk the route with the crew lead. Confirm the entrance, destination rooms and any changes since the survey. Clear loose objects from the carrying path and make sure the required doors and lighting work.
Equipment should suit the item, surface and route. Keep the work area free of children, pets and unnecessary foot traffic while the crew carries or rolls a load. An unexpected step, soft surface or changed vehicle position needs another review.
Give one available contact authority to resolve placement and scope questions. Report a delayed key handover or another change as soon as it becomes known.

12 /
Check placement and the remaining work
Walk through the receiving property before the crew leaves. Check the agreed furniture positions, basic reassembly and routes to the rooms you need that night. Record any concern while the relevant people and moving documents are available.
Unwrapping furniture, unpacking carton contents and taking packaging away are different tasks. Confirm which you requested. If you will handle cartons yourself, keep the empty material out of hallways and check the property’s collection arrangement before putting it outside.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

Questions before you move
Can you help with a local or interstate move involving Riverhead?
Yes. Sterling Oakbridge provides household moving, packing and storage for local and interstate moves. The plan follows the shipment, requested work and access at both properties.
What should I show you for an apartment entrance?
Photograph the full route, including successive doors, their swings, any vestibule or hallway turn, stairs and lifts. Send the building instructions and identify large pieces for review.
Does a driveway automatically solve truck parking?
No. The surface, clearance, size of the vehicle, turning space and permission to use the area still need review. Shared or street positions also need the appropriate property or authority confirmation.
Do apartments receive the town collection service?
The Town of Riverhead excludes apartments, condominiums, mobile homes and businesses from its collection service. Confirm your building’s collector, preparation rules and arrangements for bulky items.
Are cartons and basic protection materials included the same way?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack cartons and remove packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What if the destination is not ready?
Tell the planning team as soon as the handover changes. Discuss an available storage or delivery alternative and agree timing, handling and charges before relying on it.
Can you move a small office or shop?
Yes. Describe the equipment, stock, workstations and access, then identify what must function first after delivery. Agree the sequence and specialist arrangements during planning.
