Plan the move around the Allentown property

In Allentown, an attached rowhouse, an upper-floor apartment and a home with a private drive present different receiving routes. Give the inventory and the address equal attention. A place for the vehicle, a usable entrance and a clear path into the room all need to work together.

Confirm that the property lies within the City of Allentown before applying city procedures. An Allentown mailing address is not sufficient to establish the responsible municipality or utility division. Use the City’s planning maps and the property’s own records to settle that question.

Send both addresses, preferred dates, the rooms to be moved and any separate pickup or storage stop. Identify who controls the keys and which receiving hours are fixed. The Allentown relocation guide connects the home choice with schools, household accounts and daily travel.

Choose the services your household needs

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

Moving helpWhat we can includeWhat to send
Local residential movingLoading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyBoth addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property
Interstate movingPickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when neededDestination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment
Commercial movingOffice and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictionsBusiness type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect
Packing and unpackingSelected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpackingWhat you will pack and what you want us to prepare
Storage and staged deliveryStorage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery planExpected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage
Designer and hotel furniture receivingReceiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed planExpected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site

List what you want moved, packed or stored, and distinguish that work from items you will prepare yourself. Include cellar shelves, attic contents, bicycles and furniture in a detached garage. Mark items being donated or discarded so they are not included in the shipment by mistake.

If possession dates do not line up, describe the likely storage interval and anything you will need during it. Keep medicines, identification, payment documents, chargers and immediate household essentials with you. Confirm the agreed services in the estimate before organizing the rest of your arrival around them.

Coordinate the business receiving window

For an office, shop or other commercial move, organize the inventory by work area and identify the equipment that needs separate disconnection or installation. Moving an item does not establish who will commission it for use. Name the responsible person for each operation and agree which areas must reopen first.

Ask the manager about service entrances, elevator reservations, common-area protection and receiving hours. Allentown’s business loading-zone application is a separate process from ordering temporary no-parking signs for a particular move. Check which arrangement fits the site before promising staff or contractors an unloading position.

Keep a contact available who can approve placement and resolve access questions. Update the plan if a temporary street closure changes the approach.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Measure the stoop, doorway and upper-floor route

Photograph the street approach, front steps and entrance from a distance that shows how they connect. For a rowhouse, include the first turn inside the door, stair width, landing and overhead clearance. A broad room upstairs is useful only if the furniture can pass through the route to it.

Measure large pieces and note removable components. Show the final room and the space in which a piece would turn. If a rear alley or yard offers another route, confirm permission, gate width, surface condition and the steps at the back door. Do not treat a neighbor’s yard or shared alley as an available loading area without agreement.

For managed buildings, obtain the receiving instructions and identify the person who will open the authorized entrance. The route should remain usable for residents and emergency access while the work proceeds.

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which City or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Request the curb space early

The Allentown Parking Authority’s temporary-sign process distinguishes metered and nonmetered locations. Request metered signs three days ahead; they must be posted 12 hours before they become enforceable. Request nonmetered signs five days ahead; they must be posted at least 72 hours before enforcement. Approval is followed by an emailed payment link, and payment finalizes the order. Do not move the installed signs.

In City Code 615-62, the oversized-vehicle restriction has an exception for delivery and service vehicles actually engaged in working operations nearby between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. This is not permission to store the truck overnight or disregard other parking restrictions. Describe the actual vehicle and duration to APA at 610-841-9090.

A container or obstruction in public space needs a separate check with Engineering, including its footprint and proposed duration. Ask about the application, owner consent, fee, review time and any traffic arrangements. If the preferred position is unavailable, agree an authorized alternative and assess the change in carry distance before delivery.

Match the preparation to the item

Labor, materials and optional work

Item or taskHow it is charged
Basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyPart of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee
Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tapeNo separate charge for these basic protection materials
Boxes supplied for your moveCharged separately
PackingCharged for working time; boxes are separate
Unwrapping furniturePart of delivery
Unpacking the contents of boxesOptional work, charged for working time
Packaging and waste removalCharged separately
Complex furniture and other specialist workIndividually quoted after review

Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

Use room labels that will make sense at the destination. Dense books belong in manageable cartons; fragile pieces need the agreed protection and clear identification. Tell us about framed art, mirrors, glass shelves, a piano or an item with an unusual handling requirement before the inventory is finalized.

Keep packed cartons out of the hall and off the stairs. In a compact rowhouse, a growing stack beside the entrance can consume the space needed to turn furniture. Set aside a preparation area that preserves the complete route.

Specialist services by individual quote

What needs attentionWork available for review
Complex furnitureBunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly
Heavy itemsPianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables
Art and collectionsFine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification
Hanging and installationPictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately
Business equipmentOffice furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route

Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

Give the estimate the details that affect the work

Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.

Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

Include the size and quantity of furniture, the number of cartons, floors, stairs, elevators and the distance from the receiving position to the entrance. Describe packing needs and any separate stop. Wide photographs help clarify a route that measurements alone do not explain.

City signs, building charges and permits should be identified with the party responsible for arranging and paying them. A municipal fee is not a moving-service price. If the address, inventory or authorized access changes, have the estimate and plan reviewed while there is time to respond.

Confirm the sequence from pickup to placement

Dedicated long-distance moving

Our dedicated long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and delivery, with the same moving crew at pickup and drop-off. Confirm the pickup, delivery and any storage stages in your move plan. The survey and move-planning team performs a separate role from the crew carrying out the move.

Agree who will meet the crew at each address and who can answer placement questions. Review the inventory, receiving route and items needing particular preparation together. Keep the written estimate and confirmed access instructions available to the person coordinating the day.

For interstate moves, use the FMCSA consumer resources to understand the documents and questions that belong in your planning.

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

09 /

Prepare for street work and winter access

Check the City’s current closure notices close to the move. Center Square work at Seventh and Hamilton has a 2026 schedule that is subject to field conditions; an old route screenshot is not reliable access confirmation. Give the driver the approved approach and the receiving contact.

For winter, City Code 545-3 calls for a cleared sidewalk strip at least three feet wide within ten hours after precipitation ceases as reported by the National Weather Service at ABE. Agree who will clear and treat the entrance before the crew arrives. A plowed travel lane does not establish that the stoop, alley or receiving path is ready.

10 /

Walk the route before handling begins

Check that the agreed curb position is available, the signs remain correctly placed and the authorized door is open. Walk the route with the person coordinating the move. Point out fragile trim, low ceilings and any surface that has become wet or slippery.

Keep children and pets away from active handling and preserve an unobstructed route through shared areas. Tell the crew immediately if an elevator, gate or destination room has become unavailable. A changed route can require a different handling plan.

Before the crew leaves, confirm placement, review the agreed work and keep the relevant documents. Arrange separate disposal for anything that was never part of the shipment.

Send an inventory and a workable access plan

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Include both addresses, dates, rooms, large pieces, packing requests and the photographs that explain access. Note anything still awaiting a decision: a closing, a key handover, building permission or a sign order. An unresolved condition should be visible before the work is scheduled.

Use the estimate request to bring those details together. The preparation becomes more useful when the inventory, timing and actual receiving route are considered as one plan.

Questions before you move

How early should I request temporary no-parking signs?

APA asks for three days at metered locations and five days at nonmetered locations. The posting periods before enforcement are 12 and 72 hours respectively. Confirm approval and payment; do not reposition the signs.

Does a residential parking permit reserve space for the truck?

No. An APA resident permit does not reserve a space. The permit does not guarantee a space, and APA excludes service and commercial vehicles from that program. Arrange the actual moving position through the appropriate sign and access process.

What should I send for a rowhouse or upper-floor move?

Send wide photographs and measurements of the stoop, entrance, hallway, stair turns, landings and destination room, along with dimensions of large furniture. Include any proposed rear route and who has authorized its use.

Can I request packing or storage?

Describe the rooms or selected items to be packed and any expected storage interval. Confirm the work, materials and delivery arrangements in the estimate.

Are basic furniture assembly and packing materials included?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

Does this page identify an Allentown office?

It describes moving services and local preparation; it does not identify a physical Sterling Oakbridge office in Allentown. Use the estimate request to discuss the actual shipment and dates.

What if the planned curb position is unavailable?

Contact the coordinator before unloading. Agree a lawful alternative, check the complete route and review any change in carry distance or handling needs.
