Movers in Scranton, PA
A Scranton move connects three practical decisions: what is going, how it will pass through each building and where the vehicle can work. Sterling Oakbridge helps you plan household and business moves with packing, storage and specialist handling where agreed. Start with the actual addresses and receiving conditions.
01 /
Connect the property, inventory and receiving date
A house with porch steps, an upper-floor apartment and a business with a shared service entrance need different plans. Record the furniture and cartons, then trace the route from their rooms to the proposed vehicle position. Repeat that exercise at the destination. A wide front door is useful only if the hallway, stair turn and final room also work.
Use the exact municipality, not simply a Scranton mailing address, when checking local procedures. The City’s neighborhood map helps orient the discussion, while permission to use a street or building still comes from its responsible authority or manager. Bring the access findings into your estimate request; a neighborhood name does not describe the work on its own.
02 /
Choose the services your move requires
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Start with the belongings that must reach the next address, then identify the preparation you want included. You might pack ordinary contents yourself and ask for selected fragile items to be handled, or discuss a fuller packing service. If possession dates leave a gap, include storage and the later delivery route in the same conversation. A service category is a starting point; the written scope should identify the actual tasks, dates and conditions.

Plan a business move around access and handoff
For an office, shop or other commercial move, identify the person who releases the premises and the person who receives the goods. List furniture, cartons, equipment and any items requiring separate technical attention. Explain what must remain usable until departure and what must arrive first. Moving equipment and reconnecting a business system are separate responsibilities unless expressly included.
Check the loading entrance, freight lift if present, shared corridors and working hours with the building manager. Scranton’s parking and loading code distinguishes off-street facilities from public rights-of-way. A business parking space is not proof that a truck can load across a sidewalk or remain overnight. Resolve the receiving arrangement before scheduling a staged handoff.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
04 /
Measure the whole route through the building
Send photographs of the approach, doors, landings, stairs and turns, along with useful clear dimensions. Show handrails, overhead restrictions and the route to each large item’s destination. In a converted building, an apartment entrance can be quite different from the main public entrance. Ask the manager which door may be used and who can unlock it during the agreed window.
Where lifts are involved, check every lift on the path, its opening and interior dimensions, booking conditions and any shared use. Obtain the building’s requirements for protection, insurance documentation, deposits or approved labor arrangements without assuming they are citywide rules. A short slot may require packing and permitted preparation beforehand; it does not make the physical handling route shorter.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which City or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

05 /
Resolve the truck position and approach route
Start with the proposed block or private loading area, vehicle size and the space needed to work. The City’s residential parking provisions include contractor permits and, for metered streets within those permit areas, meter hoods from the parking vendor. Ask Police whether that provision applies to the proposed moving operation. A resident permit does not reserve a space, and a normal meter payment does not establish exclusive use.
The City’s parking page links to Park Scranton; its current operator contact is The Car Park at 570-343-6519. Explain the address, date, hours, vehicle and spaces needed, and obtain the applicable instructions. A lane, sidewalk or street obstruction needs separate review; the City’s published agency contacts distinguish parking, Police and Licensing/Inspections responsibilities. Special-event application deadlines are not automatically household-moving deadlines.
Check the City’s truck-restriction map and current signs before choosing the approach. Its road data does not replace current closure notices. The North Main Avenue bridge notice gives truck traffic a different detour from ordinary cars; recheck the project status near your date. The full Scranton parking procedure explains the questions and responsible contacts.

Agree the packing work and materials
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Walk through the inventory before choosing packing work. Separate the items you will keep with you, the contents already packed and the fragile or unusual pieces needing discussion. Identify small parts that belong with dismantled furniture and label cartons by their destination room. Tell the estimator about artwork, unusually heavy pieces or items whose construction needs a particular handling method.
Arrange a clear working surface and access to the cupboards, shelves or furniture being prepared. Packing should fit the actual departure sequence: do not block the only hall with finished cartons while large pieces still need to pass. Unwanted goods need their own disposal plan; they do not become part of the shipment or an included cleanout by being left beside it.

Give the estimate the facts that change the work
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
The useful comparison is a defined scope at two real addresses. Record the inventory, floors, steps, lifts, walking distance and vehicle arrangement. Explain what will be packed by whom and any gap between collection and delivery. If a receiving window or permit is pending, identify that uncertainty so it is visible in the plan.
| Planning detail | Information to provide | Practical consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Shipment | Room inventory, cartons and special items | Defines volume and handling tasks |
| Building route | Clear dimensions, floors, turns and lifts | Determines the usable path |
| Truck access | Approved position, approach and hours | Connects loading with the street plan |
| Preparation | Packing, unpacking and specialist work requested | Sets the service scope |
| Timing | Possession, key handoff and receiving conditions | Identifies dependencies and alternatives |

Confirm the sequence and protection arrangements
Dedicated long-distance moving
Our dedicated long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and delivery, with the same moving crew at pickup and drop-off. Confirm the pickup, delivery and any storage stages in your move plan. The survey and move-planning team performs a separate role from the crew carrying out the move.
Review the inventory, agreed services and access instructions together. Identify who can authorize changes if a building entrance, possession date or receiving window changes. Keep the origin and destination contacts available, and allow a practical sequence between the two addresses rather than assuming their loading windows must coincide.
For an interstate move, use the FMCSA consumer resources to review the moving documents and your responsibilities. Ask how valuable items and any special handling requirements should be recorded before work begins.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
09 /
Prepare for snow, rain and route changes
Assign someone to make the receiving route usable before the crew arrives. Scranton’s snow-removal code gives residential sidewalks a different clearance period from business sidewalks. That deadline is not a reason to leave a scheduled moving route covered: agree when the steps, landing and carrying path will be ready, and recheck them after changing weather.
Use the actual forecast, current street restrictions and the condition of the property when choosing a fallback. Wet floors may need protection and drying; snow may change the available curb width; a bridge closure may change the approach. For property questions near water, the City’s Floodplain Management office provides maps and assistance. A city or neighborhood label cannot establish the risk of a particular basement.
10 /
Make the receiving handoff clear
At the start, show the crew the items that stay, the agreed route and any change since the estimate. Keep essential documents and daily necessities with you, and keep children and pets away from active handling. At the destination, identify rooms and furniture positions before cartons fill the floor. Retain access to the manager or keyholder until the agreed work is complete.
Check the rooms and paperwork before departure and use the agreed reporting process for any concern. If old furniture is being left for disposal, confirm the separate arrangement: the City’s couch and mattress FAQ says ordinary garbage is collected first and larger items depend on remaining truck capacity. A fixed property handover may need a confirmed alternative.

Request your Scranton moving estimate
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Provide both full addresses, preferred dates, the inventory and the services you want considered. Add photographs and dimensions for difficult access, the floor and lift details, and the status of truck parking or building approval. For a business, include the receiving contact and any staged move requirements.
Use the estimate form or call (475) 221-2030. The Pennsylvania moving page connects the wider network, while the Scranton arrival checklist helps coordinate the household tasks around the move.

Questions before you move
What should I send for a Scranton moving estimate?
Send the two addresses, dates, inventory, requested services and the full access route. Include stairs, turns, lifts, vehicle placement and any pending building or street approval. Update those details if the plan changes.
Does a residential parking permit reserve a moving space?
No. The City permit provisions say a permit does not guarantee a space or override other parking prohibitions. Ask Police about the proposed moving operation and ask the parking operator about any applicable meter hoods or temporary arrangement.
Who handles a metered loading location?
The City links to Park Scranton / The Car Park, reachable at 570-343-6519. Describe the block and operation. A meter arrangement and permission to obstruct a lane or sidewalk are separate questions; obtain the instructions for the actual scope.
Can an older home or upper-floor apartment be planned for?
Describe the actual entrance and carrying path, including steps, landings, narrow turns and the destination room. Send measurements and photographs of difficult sections. Building age alone does not establish whether a particular piece fits.
Are basic furniture assembly and packing materials included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What if keys or possession are delayed?
Raise the possible delay before the move. Agree who decides on a revised sequence, when that decision is needed, what storage or later delivery is actually available and how costs would change. A possible alternative is not confirmed until its conditions are agreed.
Where can I check schools, utilities and neighborhoods?
The Scranton relocation guide covers neighborhood comparisons, current school registration, utility handoffs, bus travel and waste collection. Use the exact property address when applying those procedures.
Your next step
Tell us about your Scranton move
Tell us what is moving, where it needs to go and the access conditions at both addresses. We will use those details to prepare your Scranton moving estimate.
