Movers in Erie, PA
Plan your Erie move around the household, the property and the receiving route. Share your inventory, dates and access details so the services and preparation can be agreed in your estimate.
01 /
Plan the Erie move around the actual address
A front porch, an upstairs apartment and a downtown service elevator create different moving days. In Erie, start with the route from the authorized vehicle position to the room where each large piece will go. The inventory and the property need to be considered together.
Confirm that the destination is in the City of Erie. An Erie mailing address can belong to another municipality, and the City GIS boundary is more useful than the postal name when establishing who controls refuse collection, streets and permits. Send the complete origin and destination addresses, including unit numbers and any separate stop.
Identify the person who controls keys and receiving access. A proposed closing time, a lease start and permission to bring furniture inside may be different milestones. Flag anything still awaiting confirmation so that the estimate and schedule reflect the actual conditions.
The Erie relocation guide connects housing choices with school registration, household accounts and ordinary travel. You can also use this page directly to prepare the service request and the details needed for an estimate.

Choose the services your household needs
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
List what you want moved, packed or stored, and distinguish that work from items you will prepare yourself. Include cellar shelves, attic contents, bicycles and furniture in a detached garage. Mark items being donated or discarded so they are not included in the shipment by mistake.
If possession dates do not line up, describe the likely storage interval and anything you will need during it. Keep medicines, identification, payment documents, chargers and immediate household essentials with you. Confirm the agreed services in the estimate before organizing the rest of your arrival around them.

Separate the business move from reopening
For an office, shop or other business, identify the work areas, receiving entrance and equipment that needs separate disconnection or installation. Name the people responsible for records, devices, stock and restoration of the workspace. Transporting equipment does not establish who will reconnect or commission it.
Ask the building manager about service elevators, floor protection, security access and delivery hours. A marked loading zone may be useful for a short transfer, but Erie Code 521.07 limits material loading or unloading there to 30 minutes. A longer operation needs an appropriate arrangement; it should not be scheduled on an assumed all-day use of that zone.
Agree an order for the rooms or workstations needed first and make sure an authorized receiver can approve placement. Separate third-party building charges and municipal arrangements from the moving-service scope.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
04 /
Follow the route through porches, stairs and elevators
Take wide photographs showing the front walk, steps, porch, doorway and first interior turn. For an upper-floor home, add stair widths, landings, overhead clearance and the doorway to the final room. Measure the large furniture as well as the route; a spacious room does not guarantee that a piece will reach it.
Where a side drive or rear entrance is proposed, establish who may use it and whether it can support the actual vehicle or handling method. Include gate width, surface condition, slope and overhead branches. A convenient-looking neighbor’s drive is not an authorized receiving position.
For apartments, measure each elevator and every intermediate corridor. Find out whether the service car is shared, whether pads must be installed and who releases it for the booked period. Preserve residents’ and emergency access throughout the work.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which City or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Arrange meter space and the truck approach
The Erie Parking Authority provides bags for meters that need to be marked “No Parking”; its published daily charge is $10 per meter. Call 814-456-7588 with the address, meter identifiers, date, hours and vehicle footprint. Confirm approval, the number of spaces, when the bags must be installed and who handles enforcement. Paying an ordinary meter is not the same as arranging its temporary restriction.
Erie’s commercial parking rule generally limits vehicles with a chassis weight above 3,000 pounds to two hours, with an exception while service companies, contractors or others actually work nearby. That exception does not remove loading-zone limits or other restrictions. Describe the operation instead of assuming the truck can remain indefinitely.
For an unmetered position or an unusual public-space setup, check with Traffic Engineering and, where space would be occupied or obstructed, Engineering. Give them a sketch that includes the footpath and roadway. Confirm the applicable permission and timing before relying on the position.
The driver should review Erie’s truck-route rules for the actual approach. A passenger-car route does not settle commercial access. If the preferred position cannot be approved, agree a lawful alternative and review the extra carry distance before the move.

Match the preparation to the item
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Use room labels that will make sense at the destination. Dense books belong in manageable cartons; fragile pieces need the agreed protection and clear identification. Tell us about framed art, mirrors, glass shelves, a piano or an item with an unusual handling requirement before the inventory is finalized.
Keep packed cartons out of the hall and off the stairs. In a compact home, a growing stack beside the entrance can consume the space needed to turn furniture. Set aside a preparation area that preserves the complete route.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

Give the estimate the details that affect the work
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Include the size and quantity of furniture, the number of cartons, floors, stairs, elevators and the distance from the receiving position to the entrance. Describe packing needs and any separate stop. Wide photographs help clarify a route that measurements alone do not explain.
City signs, building charges and permits should be identified with the party responsible for arranging and paying them. A municipal fee is not a moving-service price. If the address, inventory or authorized access changes, have the estimate and plan reviewed while there is time to respond.

Confirm the sequence from pickup to placement
Dedicated long-distance moving
Our dedicated long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and delivery, with the same moving crew at pickup and drop-off. Confirm the pickup, delivery and any storage stages in your move plan. The survey and move-planning team performs a separate role from the crew carrying out the move.
Agree who will meet the crew at each address and who can answer placement questions. Review the inventory, receiving route and items needing particular preparation together. Keep the written estimate and confirmed access instructions available to the person coordinating the day.
For interstate moves, use the FMCSA consumer resources to understand the documents and questions that belong in your planning.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
09 /
Keep the receiving plan compatible with street conditions
Check posted seasonal parking restrictions and the Bureau of Streets notices near the moving date. Street sweeping operates during the April–October season; winter restrictions run November–March on the streets to which they apply. Read the signs on the actual block, including the permitted side and hours.
A declared snow emergency can change parking access and extend restrictions to weekends. Confirm the effective area and time from the current announcement. A paid meter arrangement should not be treated as an exemption from an emergency restriction.
Under Article 717, sidewalk snow and ice generally must be cleared within three hours after it stops falling or forming, with specific responsibility rules for occupants and vacant property. Assign a person to prepare the entrance, steps and receiving path before delivery. A plowed street alone does not make the route usable.
10 /
Inspect the route before handling starts
Have the receiving contact meet the crew and walk the complete route. Check that the vehicle position is usable, the authorized door is open and the elevator or stairway is ready. Identify any wet surface, loose tread, tight turn or change since the estimate.
Keep packed cartons away from stairs and shared passages. Erie’s sidewalk rules allow reasonable transfer to and from buildings while preserving the restrictions on obstructions; the sidewalk is not a place to build an unattended staging pile. Maintain a route for pedestrians and other occupants.
Keep children and pets away from active handling. Bring medicines, identification, chargers and immediate essentials with you. Tell the coordinator promptly if keys, parking or the destination room become unavailable so that work can be paused and replanned deliberately.
Before the crew leaves, review the agreed placement and keep your documents together. Municipal disposal is a separate arrangement: unwanted furniture needs the City’s scheduled large-item collection or another confirmed destination.

Send an inventory and a workable access plan
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Include both addresses, dates, rooms, large pieces, packing requests and the photographs that explain access. Note anything still awaiting a decision: a closing, a key handover, building permission or a sign order. An unresolved condition should be visible before the work is scheduled.
Use the estimate request to bring those details together. The preparation becomes more useful when the inventory, timing and actual receiving route are considered as one plan.

Questions before you move
How do I arrange metered space for a moving vehicle?
Contact the Erie Parking Authority about its meter-bag procedure. The published fee is $10 per meter per day. Confirm the location, hours, installation and enforcement arrangements directly before scheduling unloading.
Can a moving truck use a loading zone for the whole job?
Code 521.07 limits material loading and unloading in marked loading zones to 30 minutes. Describe a longer operation to the responsible authority and arrange an appropriate position.
What details matter for a porch or upper-floor apartment?
Send measurements and wide photographs of steps, landings, doorways, stair turns and the final room, plus the dimensions of larger furniture. Include the person responsible for access and any shared spaces.
Can I include packing and storage in the request?
List the rooms or selected items to pack and any expected storage interval. Identify essentials that must remain available, then confirm the work and delivery arrangements in the estimate.
Are basic furniture assembly and packing materials included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What if the destination is outside Erie city limits?
Provide the exact municipality and address. Street permissions, waste service and school assignment need the rules for that location; an Erie mailing address alone does not decide them.
What if snow or a delayed key handover prevents delivery?
Contact the coordinator before the receiving window is lost. Confirm an authorized alternative, access for the people and belongings, the decision deadline and any additional costs before changing the plan.
