Moving to Erie

Compare the actual home and your everyday journeys, then prepare the address-based steps that make arrival work. This guide connects Erie housing and neighborhood context with schools, utilities, parking, waste and a practical receiving plan.

Choose the decisions you need to make first

Moving to Erie begins with an address and the decisions attached to it. If you are still choosing a home, compare the building and your ordinary journeys before arranging transport. If a household includes children, establish the school-registration route early enough to gather records. If you already have an address, concentrate on keys, utility accounts, the receiving route and the first collection dates.

For a housing search, choose two or three realistic candidates and make the same visit at each. Walk from the proposed parking position to the entrance, inspect the storage and test a trip to work or another frequent destination. Record the actual differences: a porch with steps, a shared stairway, an elevator reservation, a driveway or street parking. Those details are more useful for planning than a broad neighborhood label.

For a family move, first confirm the school district and address-based assignment. Then follow the current enrollment instructions, including the correct school year. School registration, transportation eligibility and a bus-pass application are related but separate tasks. Keep a named contact and a dated list of anything still outstanding.

For an address already selected, make a short receiving record: who releases the keys, when the home may be occupied, the approved vehicle position, the entrance to use and the person who can resolve a delay. Add the account dates and waste arrangements described below. The Erie moving page explains how to turn that information and your inventory into an estimate request.

Leave time between uncertain milestones. A lease date does not guarantee that the manager will be present throughout the day, and a closing appointment does not confirm the exact time the property can receive furniture. Resolve these points with the people responsible before committing dependent appointments.

Establish the municipality and the address

This guide covers the City of Erie in Erie County, Pennsylvania. The postal name Erie also appears at addresses outside the city. Establish the municipality before using a city collection procedure, parking rule or school lookup. The official City GIS boundary underlies the orientation map on this page; it does not show school-attendance areas or household collection days.

The City’s My City of Erie Neighborhood map provides another address-based starting point for local information. Check the layer and legend that apply to the question you are asking. A planning neighborhood, a ward, a census tract and a school catchment are different ways of dividing the same urban area. A name shared by two maps does not make their boundaries interchangeable.

Presque Isle Bay forms the waterfront setting on the city’s north side. The neighborhood comparisons below use six separate planning documents to explain the city’s varied development: the downtown grid, bayfront communities, Little Italy, Academy–Marvintown and the Buffalo Road area. Their dates matter. A historic plan can explain street form and building patterns, but it cannot establish which shop is open today or whether a particular apartment is available.

Use the map to orient a search, then inspect the exact parcel and entrance. An apartment may have a State Street address but a service door on another frontage; a house may have an obvious front porch and a less visible shared rear approach. Save both the official address and the receiving instructions, with photographs that make the relationship clear.

When an address is outside the city, change the responsible municipality in your checklist. Water-provider territory and an Erie mailing address do not settle local government jurisdiction. Confirm the relevant district, collection provider and street authority individually rather than carrying every City of Erie instruction across the boundary.

Find the area that fits your routine

These comparisons draw on six separate official or City-hosted planning documents. Plan dates and study boundaries are stated because they explain development patterns without establishing current vacancies, school assignment or the condition of a particular property. Visit the exact home and its receiving route before deciding.

Downtown

The 2007 Downtown Master Plan describes a historic core around Fifth and State, office development farther south and older industrial or warehouse blocks toward the railroad. This is evidence of urban form, not a current tenant directory.

Downtown Master Plan, 2007 — existing conditions ↗
Housing & setting
Compare the exact building’s unit layout, storage, stairs and any service elevator. A converted building can have a receiving route quite different from its main visitor entrance.
Daily travel
Test the actual bus stop and the walking route to everyday destinations, including the return trip after normal business hours.
Before choosing
Confirm the authorized loading frontage, elevator window and any shared corridor. Check current uses around the address rather than treating the old plan as a present-day amenity list.

West Bayfront

The 2016 Our West Bayfront plan studies the area between the waterfront, Bayfront Connector, West Twelfth Street and Sassafras Street. It treats a group of neighborhoods and corridors rather than one uniform type of home.

Our West Bayfront Community Plan, 2016 ↗
Housing & setting
Inspect the individual house or apartment, porch, steps and rear access. Compare the usable interior and storage with the furniture you intend to bring.
Daily travel
Walk the route toward the destinations you need; a bayfront setting does not establish a direct pedestrian connection at every point.
Before choosing
Use the plan’s study boundary for context, then verify the parcel, current street signs and school lookup independently. Do not assume every property has waterfront access.

East Bayfront

The 2020 plan describes a study area beside downtown and the lake, reaching from East Front to East Eighteenth Street and from State Street to East Bayfront Parkway. Its broader study area differs from the smaller BEST focus area.

East Bayfront Neighborhood Plan, 2020 ↗
Housing & setting
Compare the specific building and tenure terms. Avoid applying older plan-wide housing statistics to the condition or price of an individual listing.
Daily travel
Try the crossings and connections along the actual route to work, shops or the waterfront. Include the journey back at your usual time.
Before choosing
Distinguish planning geography from census and school boundaries. Check the entrance, shared spaces, vehicle position and responsibilities in the lease.

Little Italy

The 2024 SSJ Neighborhood Network plan describes historic Little Italy and anchors including Columbus Park, Three Sisters Park and St. Paul. The network’s service area is a planning and community-work geography, not a new legal municipal boundary.

SSJ Neighborhood Network Strategic Plan, 2024 ↗
Housing & setting
Inspect the actual home’s stairs, room sizes and shared outdoor space. Ask which storage and parking areas are included in the agreement.
Daily travel
Test a regular errand and the crossings between the home and a chosen park or community destination. Confirm current access to privately managed spaces.
Before choosing
Keep current facility hours and property conditions separate from the plan’s proposals. Use the exact address for school and municipal-service decisions.

Academy–Marvintown

The 2020 neighborhood plan describes a largely residential area south of downtown, with much of its housing built between 1901 and 1945 and business corridors on Twenty-Sixth Street, Old French Road and State Street.

Academy–Marvintown Neighborhood Plan, 2020 ↗
Housing & setting
Compare upper-floor headroom, stair turns, porch access and the condition of the actual receiving surfaces. The construction period alone does not establish maintenance or suitability.
Daily travel
Test the journey from the home to the corridor or stop you would use, including crossings and return service.
Before choosing
Visit the exact frontage at a relevant time, confirm assigned parking and measure large furniture against every turn. Do not infer school quality or quietness from the plan’s general description.

Buffalo Road area

The 2023 plan also uses the Fairmount–McClelland planning identity. It describes a residential center with industrial edges to the north and south and commercial corridors along Buffalo Road and Broad Street, with major growth in the mid-twentieth century.

Buffalo Road Neighborhood Plan, 2023 ↗
Housing & setting
Examine the particular house, addition or apartment and its driveway, storage and receiving route. A shared planning identity does not imply identical lot sizes or layouts.
Daily travel
Try the exact commute and everyday destination; inspect crossings where the route meets the commercial corridors.
Before choosing
Check the uses immediately around the parcel and the current vehicle approach. Industrial edges do not prove the noise or traffic conditions at every home, so make an address-level observation.

Read the housing figures alongside the building

The ACS 2024 five-year estimates, covering 2020–2024, describe a city with a substantial mix of owner and renter households and older buildings. The estimates report about 54.1% owner-occupied and 45.9% renter-occupied homes. About 60.7% of all housing units were in detached single-unit structures, 21.6% in buildings with two to four units, and 39.2% were built before 1940. These are citywide estimates, not a description of every neighborhood.

Housing measure2020–2024 estimateHow to use it
Median gross rent$870 ± $21Historical occupied-rental benchmark, including applicable utilities; not an advertised rent today.
Median owner-occupied value$115,200 ± $4,017Survey estimate of owner-reported value; not a current sale-price quote.
Renter-occupied share45.9% ± 1.9 percentage pointsA citywide tenure measure, not a measure of available apartments.
Homes built before 194039.2% ± 1.5 percentage pointsA reason to inspect the actual layout and access, not to assume the condition of an individual home.

The margins shown are approximate 90% margins of error; the percentages are calculated from the published counts. Compare current listings and written terms separately. Include rent or mortgage obligations, utilities, parking, deposits and any building charges in your own budget. A citywide median does not settle the total cost of a specific address.

At an older house or subdivided building, trace every large piece of furniture through the route. Measure porch steps, the door opening, the first landing, stair turns and the final bedroom doorway. Check headroom in upper-floor rooms and where usable storage ends under a sloping ceiling. Measure with doors in their working positions rather than assuming a leaf or railing can be removed.

Ask a landlord which rooms, outbuildings and outdoor spaces belong to the tenancy. Confirm how rubbish is stored, who maintains shared steps and which parking position is assigned. A side driveway might serve another unit; a basement door may lead to a shared area rather than a permitted receiving route.

For an apartment building, ask about the move-in appointment, elevator dimensions, protection requirements and any insurance certificate the manager requests. Get those requirements from the property itself. They are not automatically citywide requirements. Send the applicable details to the mover before the estimate is finalized, especially if stairs, a long carry or a separate service entrance change the work.

Test the complete journey and its return

The local bus operator is Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority, whose current public site is ride-the-e.com. Use its route pages and current timetable PDFs to test the actual origin, destination and travel day. A route near the home is only a useful connection if its direction, stop location and operating hours fit your journey.

Plan a weekday outbound trip and the trip home, then repeat the check for any regular evening or weekend need. Include the walk to the boarding point, crossing conditions, transfer time and the final walk. If you work a changing shift, test the earliest start and latest finish. Do not assume the last departure from a downtown endpoint is the time the bus passes your stop.

The operator’s fare page currently lists a $1.65 cash fare, a $3.30 day pass and a 45-cent transfer valid for two hours, with the transfer purchased when boarding. It also describes electronic payment options. Cash riders need exact change; confirm the payment method and product that fit your journeys before relying on a pass or transfer. Fares and timetables can change independently.

For riders whose disabilities prevent independent use of the fixed-route system, the LIFT explains eligibility and the application process. ADA paratransit service depends on the qualifying trip being within three-quarters of a mile of the fixed route and within corresponding service days and hours. Living in the county or being unable to drive does not by itself establish eligibility for every program.

Read the application requirements and contact the LIFT before planning essential trips. Its published reservation instructions require at least a day’s notice. Ask about the exact addresses, travel time, mobility equipment, assistance and return reservation. An application submitted is not an eligibility decision or a booked journey; keep those confirmations separately.

If you will drive, test the actual parking arrangement at home and at your routine destinations. Include winter restrictions and the time needed to find an authorized space. The route for a household car also differs from the route for a commercial moving vehicle: Erie’s truck rules and the receiving position need a separate check in the parking section below.

Follow the current enrollment path for the address

Start with Erie’s Public Schools address-based school information. The district provides elementary and middle-school maps; use the home address rather than a neighborhood name to identify the relevant school. If a boundary or unusual address is unclear, ask Child Accounting to confirm it before treating a school as assigned.

The current student-enrollment page links to Infinite Campus online registration. For an ordinary new enrollment, choose the K–12 option for 2026–2027. The separate Collegiate Academy option is marked for accepted students only. An older ScribOrder page can still be found online, but its older-year instructions are not the current starting point.

Gather proof of the child’s age, the vaccination record, parent or guardian identification and proof of residency. The district lists age-document examples including a birth certificate, a baptismal record showing the date of birth or a passport. Its residency examples include a deed, lease or mortgage statement, qualifying bills, a property-tax statement and vehicle identification; the evidence must show the relevant name and address and meet the page’s 60-day recency requirement.

For kindergarten in 2026–2027, the published age cutoff is five years old by August 31, 2026. Check a later year’s instructions when planning farther ahead. If the family shares housing, read the multiple-occupancy procedure: the page requires the owner or resident’s participation and residency evidence, a notarized form and current identification for both parties. Do not substitute an informal note without checking what the district needs.

Call Child Accounting at 814-874-6150 if a document is missing, the living arrangement is unusual or stable housing is unavailable. Explain the circumstances and ask how to proceed; do not assume the household must postpone contacting the district until every conventional document is in hand. Keep submitted records and the district’s follow-up instructions together.

Then handle school transportation or an EMTA pass separately. A change of home address or school requires a new transportation registration. The 2026–2027 page says previously registered students with neither change do not need to repeat it. It states a 1.5-mile Google walking-distance threshold for elementary students and a two-mile threshold for high-school EMTA eligibility. Do not apply either number to an unmentioned category without confirmation.

Ask the transportation office about the assigned stop, service start, dismissal arrangements and any individual needs. School enrollment acceptance alone is not confirmation that a bus or pass is ready for the first morning. Arrange a temporary household plan if the transport decision is still pending, then verify the actual pickup and return instructions.

07 /

Separate the owner’s water account from household starts

The City utility directory lists Erie Water Works, Penelec and National Fuel as the principal contacts. Verify the provider at the exact service address, including the apartment or unit. A utility’s service area can cross municipal boundaries, so a provider name is not proof that the property lies inside the City of Erie.

For water, Erie Water Works’ tenant-service instructions place legal responsibility with the property owner. Only a deeded owner can authorize the relevant change, and a tenant change should be accompanied by the requested final meter reading where applicable. The Water Works FAQ explains that a tenant’s name may be placed on an account at the owner’s written request, while the owner remains ultimately responsible.

Ask the landlord who arranges the change, how readings are obtained and which charges are included in the lease. If buying, coordinate the owner-side account transition and the closing information. The separate change-of-address form requires an owner’s signature and allows five business days for processing. That is not a general promise to start every tenant’s water within five days.

For electricity, begin through FirstEnergy’s start, stop or move service entry. Its moving instructions ask for the service address or meter number, identifying information and the requested date. A minimum of two business days may be needed to start service, and the company advises movers to contact it at least three days ahead. Save the confirmation and distinguish a requested date from an accepted one.

Check whether access to the meter or another appointment is necessary. If service is already off, an online account request alone is not proof that the property has power. For a stop request, keep electricity available through the final work that needs it and confirm the timing, particularly where a remaining occupant or building arrangement affects disconnection.

National Fuel’s Pennsylvania residential start instructions ask for a call at least a week before the desired date: 800-365-3234. Existing-line service involves account setup and an appointment during business hours. A property needing a new gas line follows a different, longer process. Ask who must attend and what access is required.

The provider’s stop-service instructions likewise ask for at least a week’s notice and a final meter reading; responsibility can continue until the reading is obtained. Keep the old and new account dates distinct. Record the date, confirmation, access contact and unresolved issue for each provider, then check that essential services actually work when the keys are released.

08 /

Book bulky items and sort the remaining packing waste

Confirm that the property receives City residential refuse service and find its collection day. A landlord or condominium manager may instead control a shared or private arrangement. The City refuse page explains the municipal procedure; do not leave unwanted furniture outside merely because another household has set something at the curb.

Free large-item pickup is available to residential refuse customers by appointment. Call 814-870-1550 on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.; the City also links an online request for up to three items. Obtain the six-digit confirmation number and the scheduled date. The published instructions warn that availability can be up to two weeks away, so booking before the final moving day matters.

Put approved items out for the scheduled collection, following the specified evening and no-earlier-than-24-hours placement rule. Keep them clear of vehicles and other obstructions. A couch, chair, mattress, lamp, table or dresser can fall within the listed household items. Large appliances, automotive parts, electronics, hazardous materials and construction debris are excluded and need an appropriate separate destination.

If discarding a mattress, name it when booking and ask how it should be prepared and placed. The live instructions reviewed for this guide do not specify a general mattress-bag requirement; do not invent one or infer that preparation is unnecessary. Confirm the exact item, quantity and condition with the booking service. If a private collector is needed, confirm acceptance and the appointment before the lease ends.

The 2026 City Calendar and Recycling Guide limits ordinary rigid refuse containers to 35 gallons and less than 50 pounds when full. Keep waste in the prescribed bags or containers, and ask how the property’s shared storage works. Splitting a heavy load is safer and more practical than leaving an oversized bag that will not be collected.

For curbside recycling, the calendar specifies clear bags or blue bins, not blue bags, separated from refuse. It lists newspaper and suitable office paper, corrugated cardboard and paperboard, clean metal cans, and clean number 1 and 2 plastic bottles, jugs and jars with screw tops; remove and discard those caps. Do not treat every plastic object or packaging film as accepted because it carries a recycling symbol.

Glass follows a drop-off route rather than the ordinary curbside stream. Use the 2026 recycling guide for glass-drop-off information and confirm the destination before making the trip; older event dates still appear elsewhere on the City recycling page. The recycling page asks you to flatten cardboard, remove tape and other packaging, and break down boxes larger than four feet. Keep clean cardboard separate from soiled packing and other rubbish, and check the next collection date before filling the home’s storage space. Moving-service packaging removal, if arranged, is a separate scope from municipal collection.

09 /

Arrange the space, permission and truck approach together

First describe the receiving operation: exact frontage, date, working hours, vehicle length, door or ramp clearance and the route to the entrance. Photograph the signs, meter identifiers, hydrants, driveways and pedestrian path. A position that looks empty at a viewing may be restricted at the hour the truck arrives.

For metered spaces, the Erie Parking Authority FAQ provides a specific meter-bag procedure for temporary “No Parking” restrictions. Its published charge is $10 per meter per day. Call 814-456-7588 with the proposed spaces and working window. Confirm the number of meters, approval, payment, lead time, installation and removal of bags, and what happens if another vehicle occupies the space.

The fee alone does not answer every operational question, and ordinary meter payment is not a reservation. If visiting the office, check the current contact page first: its Friday closing time differs from the older all-week hours still shown in the FAQ. Confirm collection arrangements directly before making a special trip.

For an unmetered location or a setup affecting public space, describe the proposal to Traffic Engineering and the Bureau of Engineering. Include how pedestrians and traffic will pass. Engineering lists 814-870-1371 and Engineering@erie.pa.us. Ask which permission applies to this specific operation and obtain the conditions before booking a position on that assumption.

The City parking code separates several situations. Section 521.05 generally limits parking by vehicles with a chassis weight above 3,000 pounds to two hours, with an exception while service companies, contractors or others actually work nearby. Section 521.07 limits material loading or unloading in a marked loading zone to 30 minutes. Section 521.08 does not permit a moving operation to occupy a bus stop. An exception under one provision does not cancel the others.

Public-space occupation is another question. Article 719 regulates obstructions and preserves reasonable transfers to and from buildings without allowing an unattended pile of cartons across the sidewalk. Its particular sidewalk-closure permit provision concerns construction or redevelopment; it is not evidence of a universal household-moving permit. Present an unusual closure or staging proposal to the responsible City staff.

Finally, have the driver check commercial-vehicle routes. Article 511 includes destination-access exceptions and street-specific restrictions. The route must fit the actual vehicle and address; do not infer it from a passenger-car navigation result. If the preferred curb position cannot be used, agree an authorized alternative and review carry distance, timing and any additional work before delivery.

10 /

Inspect every part of the receiving route

Walk the route in the order the crew will use it: vehicle position, sidewalk or driveway, entrance, stairs or elevator, corridor and final room. Photograph the whole transition at each stage. Close-ups of a narrow door are useful only alongside a wider view that shows the turn immediately before and after it.

Measure the clear opening rather than the outside frame. Note door swings, hinges, handles, overhead clearance, handrails and any fixed obstruction. For stairs, include the bottom approach, each landing and the top exit. Ask the mover to assess unusually large or heavy pieces against those measurements before move day; do not assume tilting will solve every turn.

For an elevator, obtain the car’s internal dimensions, door opening and stated capacity. Measure any second lift or narrow connection farther along the route. Confirm the service window, whether other residents share it, who installs protection and who can unlock or reset it. An elevator reservation ending at noon cannot be treated as a flexible all-day arrangement.

For a short receiving slot, ask what preparation is allowed beforehand: delivery of protective materials, installation of pads or work inside the unit. Keep active carrying within the authorized window. Make the origin and destination schedules workable in sequence, allowing for travel; the two windows do not need to be identical.

Ask the building manager for written requirements about certificates of insurance, protection, security check-in, staff attendance and any building-specific labor rules. Identify the party responsible for each submission and deadline. Confirm any building charges separately from the mover’s estimate. These are questions to resolve with the particular property, not a claim that every Erie building imposes the same conditions.

Keep common passages and emergency routes open. If access uses another owner’s driveway, a shared gate or a neighboring space, get the relevant permission. Identify who will remove a vehicle or unlock a barrier at the agreed time. A verbal suggestion from someone who does not control the space is not a dependable receiving plan.

On arrival, compare the actual route with the information sent earlier. Report a broken lift, new scaffold, locked door, wet stairway or occupied receiving space immediately. The coordinator and property contact should agree the revised method before handling begins, including the timing and cost of any additional work.

11 /

Try the routines that make the address work

A useful housing visit includes an ordinary errand. Walk to the grocery option you expect to use, test the trip to work or a regular appointment and find a practical place for a short outdoor break. Include the return journey carrying a bag, not just the outward trip in good daylight.

The City’s parks and open-space page describes its public-space system and the Erie Outside planning work. Distinguish an existing facility from an improvement proposed in a draft. A plan is useful background for understanding an area, but it should not be used as a promise that a particular path, playground or project will be available when you arrive.

Frontier Park’s arboretum information is one example of a primary source for an everyday outdoor destination. Visit the actual entrance and route you would use. Check crossings, gradients, surface condition and seasonal maintenance against the household’s needs. A nearby green area on a map does not reveal every step or access barrier.

Try indoor routines too: a reading place, the route to a regular service appointment and the errands that have to fit around work. Verify the opening hours, entry requirements and accessibility of the actual destination you choose, including the route back home.

For a household with children or pets, identify where they will wait safely during the move and what the first evening requires. Keep essential food, medication, chargers, bedding and a small cleaning kit accessible. Arrange a place for empty cartons that preserves usable rooms and shared passages until the collection or removal date.

Neighborhood comparisons can help narrow the search, but the final choice should reflect the address. Record a few repeatable observations from each visit instead of assigning an unsupported safety or school-quality ranking to a whole area. Revisit any feature that matters at the time of day you will actually use it.

12 /

Prepare for posted restrictions and the receiving surface

The Parking Authority’s seasonal guidance describes street-sweeping restrictions from April 1 through October 31 and winter odd/even restrictions from November 1 through March 31, generally during the stated weekday 8 a.m.–4 p.m. periods on affected streets. Use the posted sign for the exact block. Do not decide the permitted side simply by reading whether a house number is odd or even.

Check the Bureau of Streets information shortly before the move for work that may affect the approach. A planned paving project or temporary restriction can alter a receiving position that was practical during a viewing. Reconfirm the position with the property contact and the driver close to the working date.

When a snow emergency is declared, the effective notice matters: designated routes can be restricted and rules can extend into weekends. The existence of an emergency procedure is not a statement that an emergency is active today. Read the current announcement, its area and timing, then change the receiving plan if necessary.

Article 717 generally requires sidewalk snow, ice or sleet to be cleared within three hours after it stops falling or forming. Responsibility depends on occupancy and whether the property is vacant. The code also addresses hardened ice that cannot be removed without damaging the walk, including treatment and later removal when practicable.

Assign a person to prepare the full entrance route, including steps and any private driveway used for receiving. Confirm the lease or building arrangement instead of assuming the street crew clears those surfaces. The code prohibits placing snow from private property and driveways into the roadway. Choose a suitable place on the property that does not block the path or another needed access point.

Check the route again before the vehicle arrives. Melting and refreezing can change the surface after it was cleared. Keep appropriate supplies accessible and allow the crew to assess the actual footing. If the route cannot be made usable in time, activate the agreed alternative rather than improvising a carry over an unsafe or unauthorized path.

13 /

Set decision times and a usable alternative

In the weeks before the move, resolve the items with external lead times: the building appointment, meter-space arrangement, utility requests, school records and bulky-item pickup. Put each confirmation beside its date and responsible contact. Keep pending requests visibly pending until the person or provider confirms them.

As the date approaches, verify the key handover and the earliest time furniture may enter. Send the mover the final inventory and access changes. Check the receiving route, street signs and any current restrictions; make sure the property contact can actually attend the booked window. A phone number is useful only if the person is available when a decision is needed.

Keep a first-night kit with the household rather than burying it in the shipment. Include medication, identification, chargers, basic bedding, toiletries and the documents needed for access. Photograph meter readings where useful and appropriate, and check essential services once inside. Preserve the previous home’s necessary access and services until the final agreed responsibilities are complete.

Define Plan B around a specific trigger: keys not released by the agreed time, the service elevator unavailable, a receiving space blocked or a route closed by an emergency. Name who decides, how they will be reached and the latest time the decision can be made without losing the alternative.

The alternative needs its own confirmation. For belongings, establish whether a different authorized entrance, revised delivery appointment or agreed storage arrangement is available, including access, handling and costs. For people and pets, confirm where they will stay and how essential items will remain available. Do not assume a truck, loading zone or common hallway can serve as indefinite storage.

Agree the conditions for restarting: the keys released, a working lift, the approved position cleared or the route made usable. Record the revised time, receiving contact and any change to the estimate. Once delivery is complete, check placement, collect the relevant paperwork and follow the confirmed waste and recycling schedule as cartons are emptied.

Questions before you arrive

Does an Erie mailing address mean City of Erie rules apply?

No. Establish the municipality with the official boundary information. Postal naming and utility territory do not determine school assignment, refuse service or the responsible street authority.

Are the housing figures current advertised prices?

No. They are ACS 2024 five-year estimates covering 2020–2024, with sampling uncertainty. Compare current listings and written terms separately, including utilities, parking and deposits.

Where do I start school registration for 2026–2027?

Use the district’s current enrollment page and its Infinite Campus link. Choose the appropriate year and enrollment category, confirm the address-based school and handle transportation separately.

Can a tenant change the water account without the owner?

Erie Water Works requires the deeded owner’s authorization for the relevant tenant-account change. Confirm who arranges the final reading and how water charges are handled under the lease.

Can I leave a mattress outside on ordinary trash night?

Arrange large-item pickup first and obtain the date and six-digit confirmation number. Name the mattress and ask about preparation, quantities and placement; do not infer that ordinary collection includes it.

Does paying a meter reserve the space for the move?

No. Ask the Parking Authority about its meter-bag procedure and confirm the working arrangement, timing and enforcement. Other street, loading-zone and public-space rules still apply.

What should the backup plan actually contain?

A defined trigger and decision deadline, a person authorized to decide, a confirmed place for people and belongings, any additional costs, and the conditions and appointment for restarting delivery.
