Movers in Denver, CO
Plan your interstate move into or out of Denver, from packing and the complete carrying route to a receiving arrangement you can use.
01 /
An interstate move built around the two addresses
Sterling Oakbridge plans interstate household moves into and out of Denver. Start with what is traveling, where it must go and when someone can receive it. We review the transport together with packing, furniture preparation, the carrying route at both homes and any storage stage. The resulting plan should explain who does each part and what will be ready at delivery.
A detached home and a downtown condominium can hold similar belongings but require different preparation. At a house, show porch steps, the front path, any basement turn and the approach from the truck. In a shared building, include the loading entrance, service corridor, elevator and route inside the apartment. An address and bedroom count do not reveal these constraints.
Send the destination information as early as the pickup details. If the next home is undecided, identify the receiving arrangement you can actually secure, rather than treating storage or an unattended delivery as automatic. A useful estimate connects the shipment to a workable handover.

Choose the help your shipment needs
| Moving help | What to include in the request |
|---|---|
| Interstate household transport | Both addresses, the retained inventory, pickup dates and an authorized receiver. |
| Partial or full packing | The rooms, cupboards and fragile groups we prepare, and the cartons you finish yourself. |
| Furniture preparation | Pieces needing ordinary disassembly, protection and reassembly; identify unusual construction separately. |
| Storage between homes | Confirmed intake, the goods accepted, later release and delivery, with the handling stages priced. |
| Help at delivery | Room placement, furniture reassembly and any requested box unpacking or packaging removal. |
Walk through every space when preparing the list. Include a basement, garage, balcony, storage locker and home office when their contents travel. Mark belongings that stay, travel with you or go to another recipient. A few bookshelves, exercise equipment or a collection of fragile objects can change the work more than another largely empty room.
Flag pianos, artwork, safes, oversized furniture and unusually valuable pieces before the survey. Give dimensions, construction, photographs and the complete access route. The planning team reviews the required handling and any specialist work; a general household quote does not settle the method or equipment for an exceptional item.
03 /
Show the route from the truck to the room
Record one continuous route at each address. Begin at the proposed truck position, follow the path to the entrance, then show every doorway, landing, elevator and turn before the final room. Include the narrowest clear opening and the dimensions of large pieces. A wide entrance can lead to a shallow landing where a long sofa cannot turn.
For a house, show raised porches, railings, low ceilings over basement stairs and gates along a side path. Include the actual entrance intended for moving, rather than only the attractive front elevation. If a rear route is proposed, establish permission, clearance and a lawful truck position before relying on it.
For a condominium or apartment, ask management for the move packet and a confirmed loading and elevator window. Supply the requested insurance documentation, vehicle information and responsible contact in time for review. An elevator reservation still needs its clear door, cab dimensions and route to the unit checked. A passenger lift is not automatically available for furniture, and the building may limit how it is protected or used.
Show an internal stair as well as the building elevator. A two-level apartment can still have a tight turn between its living area and bedrooms. If a piece will not fit, the planner and customer need an agreed alternative before loading: reviewed disassembly, an acceptable receiving room or another specifically assessed method. Do not count on an unapproved hoist or a last-minute attempt through a window.

Arrange the loading position before the truck travels
Denver’s DOTI FAQ says a moving truck or van parked in the street needs a permit. It directs metered locations to the parking-meter process and locations without meters to street occupancy. Permission from a landlord or building manager covers their property; it does not reserve public curb space.
For street occupancy, use the current DOTI page and E-Permits process, uploading the request worksheet and traffic plan. The linked worksheet lists a minimum review of five full business days on residential streets and ten on collector or arterial roads, excluding the submission day. These are review minimums, not approval promises. The FAQ also contains an email instruction; if you are unsure which submission applies to your location, ask DOTI Permit Operations at 303-446-3759 before relying on it.
For metered space, the entrance requirements encourage online requests more than 72 business hours ahead; shorter-notice requests use the form and DOTI email. The city’s overview recommends applying at least a week ahead. Same-day meter service is unavailable. Give the meter numbers, dates, times and an alternate set of meters. Fees depend on the meters, location and duration; obtain the actual approved amount and permit.
Bag color matters. A yellow bag restricts use to the named permittee. A red bag prohibits all parking, including loading and unloading. Confirm which arrangement allows the moving vehicle to occupy the intended space. A red bag is not a moving-truck reservation.
Where the approved residential no-parking plan applies, its signs must be placed at least 24 hours in advance and state the restricted times; the plan also requires unobstructed sidewalks. Follow the issued conditions and establish who supplies and places the signs. A submitted application or a few personal cones do not establish an authorized, available loading position.
Give the planner the usable curb length or private loading-bay dimensions, vehicle restrictions, clearance and distance to the entrance. Before dispatch, resolve a blocked position with the property contact and city where applicable. Use another confirmed lawful position only after reviewing the extra carry and any changed work and price. If none is available, agree a later window or another confirmed receiving arrangement while the truck can still be held.

Protect the contents and keep the first night separate
Choose full packing, selected rooms or fragile-item help according to what you will finish yourself. Identify the remaining cupboards, loose objects and open cartons during the survey. If you are packing, have the agreed goods ready by pickup; an unfinished kitchen is additional work that can consume a short building window.
Use sound cartons appropriate to the contents. Keep dense loads manageable, protect fragile surfaces individually and fill voids so contents do not shift. Close and label each carton with its destination room. Tell the planner about fragile or high-value contents and any cartons that need review. A label helps handling but does not replace adequate packing.
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use moving labor without a separate basic assembly surcharge. Show beds, tables and shelving in advance, including their hardware and any unusual connections. Packing is charged for working time; company-supplied boxes are separate. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape carry no separate material charge. Have the agreed packing and preparation reflected in the written long-distance scope.
Keep medication, identity and moving documents, keys, chargers and the essentials you need before delivery with you. Make a separate plan for people and pets; the household shipment is not their transport. Keep a first-night group easy to identify, especially when the receiving home will be ready before all belongings arrive.

06 /
Define what a completed delivery looks like
Prepare a room plan for the destination and tell the receiver which rooms need to work first. Mark the large pieces and cartons consistently. Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. Removing contents from boxes is optional work charged for time, while packaging removal is charged separately; request those tasks in advance and have the actual arrangement confirmed.
Separate unwrapping a table from emptying kitchen cartons, arranging shelves or taking away packing waste. They require different time and instructions. If you want an additional service, describe the intended result and include it in the reviewed order rather than assuming it follows from the word “unpacking.”
If belongings split between the home and storage, provide both inventories and both receiving routes. Confirm suitable storage capacity, its intake appointment, access rules and later release authority. Include loading, storage handling and the final delivery in the plan. A facility’s phone number or an online enquiry is not a reservation.
07 /
An estimate for the actual shipment and work
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same for the same shipment and service scope. Travel or delivery taking longer does not itself change that agreed price. Added belongings, extra packing, another stop or changed access and receiving requirements need a revised written scope and price before the affected work begins.
The useful inputs are the inventory, preparation, handling route and delivery arrangement. Square footage gives context; it does not describe a filled storage locker, a difficult stair or the packing left to do. An item list starts the discussion. For an interstate household move, the carrier must survey the goods on site or virtually and provide a written estimate unless you elect to waive the survey. Video must let the carrier clearly identify the goods. A survey waiver must be in writing, signed before loading and retained with the bill of lading. A small shipment does not automatically waive the survey.
Finalize the inventory and access before pickup so changes can be reviewed in the written estimate before loading. The estimate identifies whether it is binding or non-binding, and you and the carrier sign it with a dated copy for you. A list sent for an initial discussion is not the completed estimate process.
Read the estimate alongside the inventory and access notes. It should identify the addresses, work, packing responsibilities, delivery terms and any storage or additional stages. Review liability protection separately, and ask how a change will be authorized. Keep the written version you accept, rather than relying on a conversation that leaves the shipment or receiving conditions unclear.
When comparing proposals, compare the same contents and finish. A transport-only proposal and one including packing, reassembly and storage handling are different orders. The practical question is what each total includes and how the remaining tasks will be completed.
08 /
Match the delivery service to your receiving window
Direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. Consolidated delivery is available for suitable small shipments with a wider agreed receiving window. The team preparing your estimate performs a separate role from the moving crew.
Choose the arrangement around the destination’s actual access. A narrow elevator appointment or a receiver available for one afternoon needs a plan that the agreed delivery terms can support. For consolidated work, identify who can receive throughout the accepted window or arrange confirmed storage and a later delivery. Do not assume a window published for another destination applies to Denver.
For an interstate household move, review who arranges and who carries the shipment, the written estimate, inventory, bill of lading and delivery terms. Have the company contact and receiving instructions available while traveling. If the destination changes, get the new route, access and price reviewed before treating the old plan as usable.
Choose liability protection before pickup. Full Value Protection applies to interstate household goods unless Released Value is selected through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability, distinct from a separate insurance policy. Record the choice, cost, limits and claims process, and disclose high-value articles so their requirements can be reviewed.
09 /
Coordinate keys, building access and weather
Work backward from the points you cannot improvise: possession of the home, permit review, an approved building window and the receiving arrangement. Assign one person to coordinate the household’s decisions and one reachable property contact at each shared building. Confirm that their availability covers the actual move window, including any close-of-day limit.
For a winter move, inspect the whole path before work starts. Denver requires residences to clear adjacent sidewalks by the next day after snow stops and businesses to begin immediately. A legal clearing deadline does not make an icy route usable for a move scheduled sooner. Arrange clearing of the path, steps and loading approach with the responsible property person, and reassess if meltwater refreezes.
Road conditions need their own review. Use current CDOT travel information and have the operator assess the truck’s route and requirements. A clear downtown street does not establish conditions along the entire interstate journey. Reconfirm the receiving window if a closure or weather delay changes the plan; a provisional arrival date is not permission to unload outside building hours.
10 /
Keep a usable alternative when access fails
Before dispatch, the household’s decision-maker, planner and property contact should settle what happens if keys, the loading position or the elevator are unavailable. Choose a decision time before the truck is committed to an unusable appointment. The alternative must accept the actual goods and people involved, with access, authority, cost and the next step agreed.
For delayed keys, a workable choice may be holding the shipment under agreed terms or using storage with confirmed capacity and intake, followed by a separately arranged delivery. Confirm the authorized person releasing and accepting the goods, any handling and later delivery charges, and what evidence of access will trigger rescheduling. Arrange accommodation and essentials for the household separately.
If the elevator fails, management must approve an alternative route or another appointment before it becomes the plan. The customer and planner review the handling and any price change. A stair route still needs dimensions and safe working conditions checked; it cannot be presumed suitable because the lift is out of service.
At the start of work, identify the shipment and keep exits and the carrying path clear. At delivery, the authorized receiver directs room placement, checks the inventory and notes visible concerns on the moving documents. Keep copies and follow the written claims process when needed. Delivery is complete when the agreed receiving work and handover are finished, not simply when the truck reaches Denver.

Send the details that let us make a plan
- The pickup and destination addresses, unit numbers and proposed dates.
- An inventory or video of all traveling goods, including separate storage areas.
- Photographs and dimensions of large, fragile or unusual pieces.
- A continuous view of each carrying route, with stairs, landings, doors and elevators.
- The proposed truck position, permit or private-loading arrangements and building window.
- Your packing responsibilities, requested help and preferred delivery arrangement.
- The authorized receiver, any storage stage and a decision-maker for changes.
If one address is still unsettled, say which parts are known and what you can secure before pickup. We can review those conditions with you and identify the decisions needed for a usable written plan.

Questions before you move
Can you move a household from Denver to another state?
Yes. Sterling Oakbridge reviews interstate household moves originating in Denver. Send the destination, inventory, dates and access at both addresses. Include packing and any storage stage so the written plan covers the whole shipment. The route and actual date need confirmation before you rely on a truck or receiving appointment.
Can you plan an interstate move into Denver?
Yes. Provide the origin and the Denver receiving address, including the unit, building window, loading position and authorized receiver. Choose a delivery arrangement that works with those conditions. If the home will not be available throughout the agreed receiving window, arrange confirmed holding or storage and the later delivery before pickup.
Is an item list enough for an interstate estimate?
An item list is a useful first step. For an interstate household move, the carrier must survey the goods on site or through video that clearly identifies them, unless you elect to waive that survey. The waiver must be written and signed before loading, with a copy retained with the bill of lading. A small shipment is not an automatic exception. Obtain and review the written estimate before loading.
Do I need a permit for a moving truck on a Denver street?
Denver’s DOTI FAQ says yes. Metered positions use the parking-meter process; positions without meters use street occupancy. The current street-occupancy page directs applications through E-Permits with a worksheet and traffic plan. Arrange the applicable approval before dispatch; a building’s permission does not reserve the public street. DOTI Permit Operations can clarify the process for your address.
How early should I start the loading-space arrangements?
Start before fixing a move window that depends on public curb space. The street-occupancy worksheet lists five full business days of review for residential streets and ten for collector or arterial roads, excluding the submission day. Meter requests have their own lead times, and same-day meter service is unavailable. Allow time to obtain approval and follow its conditions; submission alone does not secure space.
Does a red bag on a parking meter let the moving truck unload?
No. Denver’s meter requirements prohibit all parking, including loading and unloading, at a red-bagged meter. Yellow bags restrict use to the specified permittee. Confirm the approved arrangement for the moving vehicle, dates and hours. Treat the color and issued conditions as part of the loading plan rather than assuming any bag reserves a place for your truck.
What should I show for a condo or apartment move?
Show the route from the lawful unloading position through the loading door, corridor, elevator and apartment entrance to the final rooms. Add clear dimensions for large pieces and tight turns. Get management’s move packet and confirmed window, and supply the documents it requires. Include an internal stair even when the building has an elevator; the lift only solves the route to the apartment.
Can I pack some rooms and have you pack the rest?
Yes. Agree the rooms or fragile groups we prepare and the cartons you finish yourself. Include what remains loose at pickup so the crew and building window can be planned. Packing is charged for working time, with company-supplied boxes separate; blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Record the chosen work in the long-distance scope.
Is basic furniture disassembly included?
Basic disassembly and reassembly use moving labor without a separate basic assembly surcharge. Identify the pieces in advance so that work is included in the agreed shipment and service scope. Unusual construction, oversized items or specialist handling need separate review. Send photographs, dimensions and access details rather than assuming a general furniture description settles the method.
Do you unpack boxes and take away the packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. Removing contents from boxes is optional work charged for time, and packaging removal is charged separately. Describe the finish you want and request those tasks in advance. Have the actual work, timing and receiving arrangement confirmed so unpacking, room placement and removal are not left as different assumptions.
Will a longer journey change my flat-rate price?
The agreed long-distance flat rate stays the same when the shipment and service scope stay the same. Travel or delivery taking longer does not itself change that price. Added belongings, more packing, another stop or changed access and delivery requirements need a revised written scope and price. Report changes before the affected work starts and retain the agreed version.
What is the difference between direct and consolidated delivery?
Direct service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. Consolidated service suits appropriate small shipments with a wider agreed receiving window. Choose around who can receive and when the destination permits unloading. Do not assume the direct same-crew arrangement or a window for another destination applies to consolidated delivery to Denver.
Can the belongings go into storage before delivery?
Storage can be included as an agreed stage. Confirm suitable capacity, accepted goods, an intake appointment, access and the person authorized to release the shipment. Include handling and the later delivery in the scope and price. An enquiry or contact number does not establish a reservation; the alternative must be ready before the original receiving plan is lost.
What happens if my keys are delayed?
Before dispatch, the household’s decision-maker and planner should choose a decision time and an alternative the shipment can actually use. That may be agreed holding or confirmed storage with intake and a later delivery. Set out authority, access, charges and the condition for resuming delivery. Make a separate accommodation and essentials plan for the people traveling with you.
Can the move proceed if the elevator is unavailable?
Only after the alternative is reviewed. Management must approve another route or appointment, while the customer and planner agree the handling and any changed price. A staircase still needs its clearances, turns and working conditions assessed. If there is no usable route, hold the truck before dispatch or use the confirmed holding or storage arrangement in the move plan.
What liability protection should I choose?
For interstate household goods, Full Value Protection applies unless you choose Released Value through the required written waiver. Review the cost, limits and claims process before pickup and record your selection. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability, distinct from a separate insurance policy. Disclose artwork and other high-value items early so their declared values and handling requirements can be reviewed.
How should I prepare for a winter pickup or delivery?
Arrange a clear path, steps and loading approach with the responsible property person before work starts. Denver’s sidewalk-clearing deadline does not make an icy route safe for an earlier move. The operator also needs to assess current road conditions along the truck route. If access or travel fails, use the agreed decision time to confirm a later window or the prepared holding arrangement.
