Movers in Tolland, CT
Sterling Oakbridge helps Tolland households and businesses move locally or to another state. Tell us what is going, when you need it moved and how both properties can be reached. We will bring the crew, packing and delivery plan together around that work.
01 /
Start with the home, the belongings and the date
A house can be easy to reach by car and awkward to reach with a loaded moving truck. A narrow driveway entrance, low branches or a turn beside the garage may matter more than the distance between addresses. Send a short view from the road to the proposed unloading point, then continue through the door and any stairs.
Include the rooms people sometimes forget when making a list: the basement, loft, garage, shed and anything held at another address. Tell us about a large book collection, workbench, piano, safe or furniture that will need to come apart. The point is to plan the work before moving day, while there is still time to choose a better route or sequence.

Choose the help you want
You may want us to pack the whole home, handle selected fragile items, or move belongings you have packed yourself. A household move, an office relocation and a transfer into storage can use different plans even when the addresses are nearby.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Keep the office move tied to a working plan
For a small office, the useful starting point is a list of workstations, shared equipment, records and furniture, with a destination room for each group. Identify what must remain available until the last working day and who can release the premises, admit the crew and check the delivery.
Agree who will back up, shut down, disconnect and reconnect computers and other equipment. Packing and transporting a device does not by itself make the systems ready to use. Flag specialist handling and any confidential records separately; avoid leaving sensitive paperwork loose among general office boxes.
If you need evening, weekend or phased work, tell us which activities can stop and which must continue. We will review availability and the building arrangements with the proposed schedule. Do not book a business reopening around an unconfirmed unloading window.
04 /
Check the whole route through the property
Photograph the entrance that will actually be used, including the threshold, door swing, steps and the first turn inside. At a split-level or hillside property, a side or lower-level entrance may offer a different carrying route. It still needs checking for ground conditions, slope and clearance; a nearby doorway is not automatically the easier one.
Measure the tightest points for the largest pieces. A sofa may pass through a doorway and still fail at the turn beyond it. Note fixed handrails, low ceilings, internal stairs and anything that cannot be moved out of the way.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
For a shared drive or managed property, identify the person who can approve truck placement and protect neighbors’ access. Send written moving rules early enough to build them into the plan.

05 /
Choose a truck position that leaves a way out
Before arrival, agree the exact place to stop and how the vehicle will leave. Keep the driveway entrance, turning space and working side clear. Tell us about soft edges, steep transitions, overhead branches, gates and surfaces that the owner does not want a heavy vehicle to use. We will assess the proposed position with the vehicle and load in mind.
Tolland’s winter parking rules prohibit overnight parking on public streets and municipal lots from midnight to 6 a.m., November 1 through April 15. An additional ban can be declared for a significant snow event. A daytime loading plan still needs to fit the signs and any active restrictions.
If the truck cannot stand where first proposed, agree the alternative before loading starts. A longer carry, different entrance or changed vehicle arrangement can alter the time and scope. Placing cones by yourself does not establish permission to reserve a public space.

06 /
Separate what travels from what stays
Make three clear groups: belongings to move, things staying with the property and items needing separate disposal. Put documents, medication, keys, chargers and first-night essentials aside before packing starts. Tell the crew which cupboard, room or container must remain untouched.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
For books, use small cartons that can be handled comfortably. Keep room labels readable and use a short contents description that will help at delivery. A box marked “study — reference books” is easier to place than another box marked “miscellaneous.”
If you are reducing the load, arrange disposal before the move. Tolland’s bulky-item collection requires a reservation; it is not an on-demand extension of the regular trash pickup. Keep disposal items apart so they are not accidentally loaded.

Understand the estimate before comparing prices
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Compare the same inventory, packing work and access assumptions. A lower hours estimate may describe a different amount of work. Check travel, any minimum, the expected crew and the tasks at delivery rather than looking only at one number.
08 /
Plan the handover, including a gap between homes
A departure date and a delivery date are not always the same. If a closing, renovation or tenancy leaves a gap, discuss storage and both handling stages before the first truck is loaded. Identify anything you may need during storage and confirm how access to those items would work.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
Keep one reachable contact for each property. If the keys are delayed, notify us as soon as the timing changes so the team can review the next step. An expected closing time is not the same as confirmed access to unload.
09 /
Make the route usable on the day
For a winter move, arrange snow and ice clearance for the driveway, landing, stairs and path before the crew arrives. Decide who is responsible if weather changes overnight, especially at an empty destination. A plowed driveway alone does not clear the carrying route to the door.
Check the town’s parking-ban information again when snow is forecast. In wet weather, tell us about soft ground or drainage across the access route. Keep an indoor place available for essentials while the main rooms are being loaded or furnished.
10 /
Finish delivery with the remaining work clear
Use simple room names or a floor plan so boxes and furniture reach the intended rooms. Have a decision-maker available for placement and agreed reassembly. Checking a piece while it is still accessible is easier than trying to reach it behind a room full of cartons.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
Before the crew leaves, walk through the rooms together and record any remaining task or concern through the agreed process. Keep the paperwork and contact details where you can find them after unpacking.

11 /
Bring the details together
For your estimate, send both addresses, the preferred dates, an inventory and the packing or specialist work you want. Add photos of the approach and tight access points. If a landlord, association or business manager controls the move, include their instructions.

Questions before you move
Do you handle local moves within Tolland?
Yes. Sterling Oakbridge provides local moves within Tolland and between nearby towns. Share both addresses, your inventory and dates so we can review the crew, access and work required.
Can you move us from Tolland to another state?
Yes. Discuss the destination, shipment and delivery arrangements with us. Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and delivery, with the same moving crew at pickup and drop-off.
What if a moving truck will not fit in the driveway?
Send photos or a short video of the entrance, turning area, overhead clearance and route to the house. We will assess the vehicle position and possible alternatives. Agree any changed carry or handling arrangement before moving day.
Are basic protection materials charged separately?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack boxes as well as deliver them?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
Can you help with a piano, safe or complex furniture?
Yes, specialist work is available after reviewing the item and access. Send dimensions, photographs, model details and the required work at both ends so we can quote the appropriate scope.
Can I leave unwanted furniture for the town to collect on moving day?
Only if the relevant collection has actually been arranged. Tolland bulky-waste collection requires a reservation; the town asks residents to request it at least four business days before their regular collection day. Confirm accepted items and the collection date directly.
What should I send to get started?
Both addresses, preferred dates, an inventory, the packing you want and photos of the access route. Include storage needs, large items and any building instructions. Use the estimate request to bring those details together.
