Virginia / City relocation guide
A practical guide to moving to Earlysville, Virginia
Choose the home around the week you need to live. Confirm the property responsibilities, school and provider arrangements, and the outward and return journeys.

01 /
Begin with the address, not the postal label
Earlysville is a Census-designated place in Albemarle County. The outline below shows that Census geography; it is not the boundary of every property using the Earlysville mailing name or ZIP 22936. Establish the complete address and responsible offices before assuming a school, household account or road arrangement applies.
Compare the property with the week you need to live: school, work, shopping, appointments and the return home. A pleasant rural setting can still require several separate journeys and service confirmations. The Earlysville moving page covers the shipment; this guide helps decide whether the address and arrival arrangements suit your household.
02 /

Give each office or operator the exact address and arrangement you need. Regional destinations below do not define neighborhoods inside the Census outline.

Use your reason for moving to choose the checks
| Your situation | Investigate before choosing | Prepare for the first week |
|---|---|---|
| Family with school-age children | Official assignment by address, registration and daily transport | Enrollment response and a confirmed first-day journey |
| Commuter or remote worker | Full return journey and connection availability at the property | Working internet appointment and a practical backup |
| Downsizing household | Everyday steps, room fit and access to appointments | Essentials nearby and an agreed surplus-item arrangement |
| Household using outbuildings or a second home | Which spaces belong to the property and who maintains them | A receiving person, usable services and checked access |
These are planning situations, not claims about who lives in a particular part of Earlysville. Use written property terms and actual provider responses for the decision.
04 /
Walk the home and the outside responsibilities together
At a viewing, follow the approach to the rooms used every day, including a garage entry, laundry room and any outbuilding. Check thresholds, turns, usable storage, door swings and the path needed for ordinary tasks. Compare the furniture with the receiving space, leaving room for people and open doors.
Ask who maintains the driveway and private road, handles drainage and clears the final entrance when conditions change. Establish whether parking or outbuildings are shared and what is actually included in the lease or purchase. Record unfinished work and the date the home becomes usable. A clean interior photograph does not settle outside maintenance or access responsibilities.

05 /
Check the property arrangements behind everyday use
For a rental, shared entrance or association property, read the actual rules for parking, guest access, storage and maintenance. Ask what belongs to the household, what is shared and who authorizes changes. A gate code or vacant garage does not settle those responsibilities.
Coordinate the handover with outstanding repairs and account setup. If a relative or manager receives the home for you, give them the condition checks and contacts they need. Confirm usable daily access before arranging deliveries or assuming an unfinished space can hold belongings.
06 /
Ask who maintains the road and private drive
Identify who owns or maintains the final road and driveway, including any shared turnaround. Ask how residents, guests, contractors and deliveries use it and who to contact when access is obstructed. Confirm those instructions with the responsible owner or authority for the property.
For everyday planning, check departure as well as arrival, space for ordinary parked cars and the walking path to the house. A temporary delivery arrangement is separate from a resident parking right. Preserve a usable alternative when the preferred entrance or space cannot be used.
07 /
Confirm the official school assignment before enrollment
Albemarle County Public Schools attendance guidance uses the physical home address. The county GIS viewer can help identify schools, but ACPS calls that information unofficial; Transportation at 434-973-5716 confirms official assignment. A school name near the mailing address does not assign the property.
The district directory lists Broadus Wood Elementary at 185 Buck Mountain Road, Earlysville, with contact 434-973-3865. Use it after checking assignment. Begin the current registration process, review the required records and arrange help with the school if needed. Ask separately about a processed start date, bus arrangements and any first-week care requirements.
08 /
Try the outward trip and the journey back
Travel the route to the workplace or regular destination at the times you expect to use it. Include the connection from the property, parking or walking at the far end and the return journey. A place name, map distance or one convenient midday trip does not provide a reliable everyday schedule.
For work at home, ask providers about the exact address, installation date, equipment and a usable alternative while service is pending. Test the connection where the household will actually work. Availability somewhere in the postal area does not prove the chosen house is connected.

09 /
Separate reserved Jaunt rides from CONNECT routes
Jaunt’s general ride instructions ask first-time riders to establish a profile and confirm reservations. General trips are booked at least one day ahead and up to seven days ahead; the instructions give 434-296-3184, option 1. Confirm the actual pickup, destination, date and return before depending on a ride.
CONNECT uses a different arrangement: commuter routes at advertised stops, without a reservation. The 29 North route starts in Hollymead and connects toward UVA and downtown Charlottesville. Check current stops, outbound and return times and how you reach the stop; that route is not a promise of pickup at an Earlysville house. Discuss accessibility or ADA arrangements directly with Jaunt for the particular need.
10 /
Identify each provider and the account responsibility
Ask the owner which utility accounts serve the home and which bills the household must establish. For a property connected to ACSA water or sewer, the Albemarle County Service Authority contact is 434-977-4511. Confirm connection, account transfer and the usable start date; the county name alone does not show the property is connected.
If the home has a private well or onsite sewage system, obtain the actual system records and maintenance responsibilities. The Blue Ridge Health District program handles onsite water and sewage matters in Albemarle. Use the responsible office and appropriate property records for unresolved questions. Establish the system type first rather than assuming every Earlysville house has the same arrangement.
11 /
Arrange the first collection and the surplus items
Ask the owner or manager which hauler serves the property, who pays, what container is needed and when the first collection is available. Separate ordinary household refuse from moving cartons, bulky furniture and contractor waste. Obtain a confirmed arrangement before leaving material at the road.
The Rivanna facility directory lists Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center at 4576 Dick Woods Road and McIntire Recycling Center at 611 McIntire Road, both in Charlottesville. Check the particular facility’s accepted materials, fees, hours and load requirements before a trip. A recycling address does not establish that it accepts every surplus item from the move.
12 /
Put a useful library visit into the ordinary week
Northside Library is at 705 Rio Road West, Charlottesville, with contact 434-973-7893. It is a regional destination, not a neighborhood boundary inside Earlysville. Ask about the particular computer, printing, room or other service you need and current visit arrangements.
The JMRL card instructions describe printing an application and bringing it to a branch. Check eligibility and the required documents before visiting. Keep borrowed books and personal records accessible rather than sending them into storage with the household shipment.

13 /
Try errands and outdoor time from the chosen home
Make a short list of destinations used in a normal week: groceries, prescriptions, appointments, a library and outdoor recreation. Try the complete journey from the property, including parking, walking and return. The most useful comparison is whether those arrangements work for the people moving.
Before relying on a park, recreation program or specialist service, confirm the actual entrance, current conditions and availability with its operator. A nearby map marker does not establish usable paths, an open swimming area or a booked place. Leave room in the first-week plan for a changed appointment or a destination that needs a different arrangement.
14 /
Check the final entrance when weather changes
Inspect the property approach after rain or another change in conditions. Check where drainage goes, the condition of steps and rails, the final walking path and any loose or soft area along the drive. Confirm who handles leaves, snow or a blocked entrance at the actual property.
A passable public road does not prove the private approach is ready. If conditions affect arrival, have a receiving person inspect the route and tell the moving team what changed. For a home used intermittently, confirm usable water, heat, keys and rooms before returning; put those dependencies beside the delivery date.

15 /
Compare recurring obligations and one-time setup
Build a household budget from the actual property terms and provider responses. Separate recurring utility, hauler, maintenance and association obligations from one-time connection or repair charges. Include the ordinary travel the household expects to make. This guide does not assign one rent, bill or commute cost to all of Earlysville.
Keep shipment, storage, unpacking and surplus-item disposal visible as separate responsibilities. When comparing moving proposals, use the same inventory, packing, transport and access assumptions. An advertised hourly labor figure cannot stand in for every stage needed to get belongings into a usable home.
16 /
Bring the confirmations that make arrival usable
| Before arrival | Keep with the household | Confirm at the property |
|---|---|---|
| Keys, usable rooms and access | Owner contacts and written property instructions | Condition, final route and unfinished work |
| School and routine journeys | Enrollment response and transport details | First usable school day and a practical return |
| Accounts and collection | Provider references and essential supplies | Service status, payer and first pickup |
| Shipment and any storage stage | Inventory, room labels and first-week possessions | Placement, receiving checks and next delivery |
Keep medicines, keys, records, chargers and basic work or school equipment accessible. Choose who can resolve a missing connection or delayed handover without searching through packed belongings.
17 /
Give a delayed handover a real alternative
If the home is not ready, identify who confirms a revised time, where the household can stay and which essentials remain available while goods wait. Review storage or staged delivery before the affected work is due. A proposed spare key is useful only when the route and receiving rooms can actually be used.
Keep the moving team informed of changed access, inventory and timing. A workable alternative names a contact, usable place and understood charges or responsibilities. Once the new arrangement is confirmed, replace the outdated instructions so the people arriving act on the same plan.
18 /
Questions before you arrive
Is the map the whole Earlysville ZIP area?
No. It shows the complete Census CDP outline. Confirm property, school, provider and road questions by the exact address.
Does every Earlysville home attend Broadus Wood?
No assignment is established by this guide. ACPS uses the physical address and calls GIS school information unofficial; confirm official assignment with Transportation before enrollment.
Does the 29 North CONNECT route collect from my house?
The route overview starts at Hollymead and uses advertised stops. Check the current stop, schedule, connection from home and return. General reserved Jaunt rides follow a separate process.
How do I know which water arrangement applies?
Ask the owner for the actual connection and records. Confirm a public account with its provider, or establish private well and onsite sewage responsibilities with the appropriate records and office.
Where is Northside Library now?
The current branch page lists 705 Rio Road West, Charlottesville. Confirm visit arrangements and card documents with JMRL before the trip.
What should be ready before the moving truck arrives?
Usable keys and rooms, a confirmed receiving route and person, essential accounts, and a plan for daily journeys. Keep documents and first-week belongings accessible if delivery must wait.
