Pennsylvania / City relocation guide

Moving to Elizabethville

Elizabethville is an incorporated borough in northern Dauphin County, with an ACS 2024 five-year population estimate of about 1,350. Founded in 1817 and incorporated in 1895, it sits at the US 209 and PA 225 crossroads in Lykens Valley. This guide helps you compare an address, check school and utility arrangements, and prepare the move itself.

Start with the decision in front of you

Three reading routes through this guide, depending on where you stand. If you are still choosing an address, read orientation, the area comparison and housing first — compare each property's building, entrances, curb or driveway, and route to daily destinations. If you have children, go next to schools — the Upper Dauphin ladder. If you already hold keys or a closing date, go to arrival and work backwards: the utility accounts, designated collection setup, and truck plan.

When the address is settled and the move itself needs planning — dates, inventory, access and the estimate — the Elizabethville moving page is the working document.

Understand Elizabethville before comparing addresses

Elizabethville is an incorporated borough in northern Dauphin County — founded in April 1817 and incorporated in 1895. The borough places it about 26 miles northeast of Harrisburg at US 209 and PA 225 in Lykens Valley. The office at 68 S. Moore Street (717-362-7945) is a starting point for municipal procedures; the mailing name alone does not establish a property's municipality.

ACS 2024 five-year estimates report about 69% owner-occupied households and 84% single-unit housing. These describe the borough as a whole, not a particular street, building or moving job. Compare civic errands, the school trip and utility/collection arrangements from the actual address. The boundary map is orientation rather than a parcel or service map.

Find the area that fits your routine

Use these five reference points when comparing an address: civic errands, the school journey, the property itself, collection and utility setup. They do not define residential neighborhoods. Check the borough boundary and the actual address before applying local procedures.

Compare the whole property, not just the price

The ACS 2024 five-year profile estimates a median owner-occupied housing value of $174,300 (margin of error $16,050) and median household income of $68,864 (margin of error $20,682). They are historical survey measures, not current asking prices or a household affordability calculation. Compare actual listings, financing, taxes, maintenance and rental terms for your budget.

The building's condition decides move logistics as much as price. For a house, inspect the roof and systems, basement or other storage if present, entrance and stairs; confirm its water and sewer connections with the seller and provider. For a rental, obtain the landlord's actual move window and access rules. Photograph the route rather than infer it from the borough's housing statistics.

Test the drive and the weekday transit option

The ACS 2024 five-year mean travel time to work is 27.6 minutes, with a wide 14.2-minute margin of error. It covers all work destinations; it is not a Harrisburg drive time. Test your actual route at your working hours and consider winter access as well as the ordinary day.

The operator's Route 23X timetable lists Monday–Friday trips between Elizabethville and Harrisburg, including Main Street & Market Street and the Elizabethville Walmart park-and-ride. It has a limited commuter schedule, so check both directions, the exact stop and the walk from your address before relying on it.

Shared Ride is another service with an application and advance reservation process, limited hours and travel areas. Confirm your program, trip and fare with the operator; it is not an on-demand private taxi. For home working, verify internet service at the address before signing.

Confirm the grade route and arrange enrollment

Upper Dauphin Area School District explicitly includes Elizabethville Borough. Its current pages list elementary K–4 and middle 5–8 at 5668 State Route 209, Lykens. The high school (9–12) is at 220 North Church Street, Elizabethville. Confirm the full address, grade route and bus arrangements with the district; a postal label or older directory is not enrollment confirmation.

For a transfer, the registration instructions call for the online form and an appointment. Prepare proof of age, immunization and residence, the latest report card or transcript, and custody or special-education documents where applicable. The page specifies accepted residency evidence; read its current instructions for your circumstances. Call 717-362-6556 to arrange the appointment; high-school entrants also need guidance scheduling. Start before attendance, including for a mid-year move.

PreK Counts is a separate application and acceptance process, not automatic K–4 enrollment. Kindergarten has its own age and current-year registration requirements. Confirm the applicable route with the registrar before making childcare plans.

The Area Authority's water — read the current notice

The borough's current home page displayed an Elizabethville Area Authority voluntary water-conservation request when checked October 3, 2026. Ask the seller or landlord for the actual water provider, connection and account information; contact the Authority to arrange the relevant transfer or start and verify any current notice.

The borough's sewer code identifies the Area Authority and regulates public-sewer connections. That does not prove a particular property is connected. Confirm the system, responsibility for bills and any pending connection or repair with the owner and provider before closing. Verify electricity, heating fuel and internet from the exact address and current records. Arrange dates around possession and retain confirmations.

For municipal waste, verify the Authority-designated collector and the address's collection arrangements — see waste.

08 /

Set up the designated collection and check item rules

The borough's solid-waste code requires municipal waste collection by the Authority-designated Borough Collector. Confirm the current contractor, collection day, account and any landlord billing arrangement with the Authority; this is not a free choice of hauler for each household.

The code sets different earliest placement times for closed containers (10 a.m.) and indoor-stored plastic bags (9 p.m.) on the day before collection; containers are removed by 10 a.m. the next day. Check current instructions and holiday changes before placing anything out. Keep the collection area clear of the moving route.

Confirm recycling and bulky-item instructions before discarding cartons or furniture. Temporary dumpsters and Bagsters require a borough permit. A clean-up event does not automatically accept every item: ask about the current date, residency, items and charges. The October 3, 2026 morning event is already past; do not plan a future cleanout around it.

09 /

The curb plan in a small borough

Assess the driveway or proposed curb space using truck size, ramp, clearance and the carry route; confirm street use with the borough office (717-362-7945) and responsible road owner before the date. A photograph or an annual resident parking permit does not authorize temporary truck loading.

The parking code lists prohibited curb segments and time limits, and restricts double parking and blocked driveways, sidewalks and crossings. Read the exact segment and current signs. The vehicle chapter lists 10,000-pound limits on Broad, Callowhill, Clearfield, Diamond and Mayfield streets or specified portions. The Broad Street local-delivery exception does not remove other streets' limits. Confirm the truck's actual route and any authorization with the responsible authority. The moving page turns those checks into the day-of plan.

10 /

Walk the full route before moving day

Inspect the pinch points your property actually has: an entrance or porch, door openings, stair and landing turns, and any basement route. Measure the largest pieces against the real route, and photograph the stairs and the parking situation for the estimate.

Outside, protect older porch floors and watch uneven sidewalk slabs for the edges that eat dolly wheels. In rentals, the landlord's written rules come before the day.

11 /

A main street, a library branch, and the valley

Compare your regular trips from the address you choose. The Elizabethville Area Library is at 80 North Market Street; check its current opening hours and programs. The Northern Dauphin County YMCA is at 500 North Church Street, with a pool and activity programs; membership, session availability and childcare arrangements require a separate check.

Walk the route to the destinations you will use, checking crossings, sidewalk continuity and the return after dark. Test a weekly errands loop at both morning and evening hours, including the school journey or commute. The borough links page supplies other local contacts; proximity and suitability still depend on your address and needs.

12 /

Check current events, weather and the backup date

Coordinate the possession date, household schedule and school calendar with an agreed backup. Winter weather may change access or timing; establish who clears driveway and walking routes at both properties.

Use the current borough calendar to check parades and other events that might affect your trip. Confirm any clean-up event's current eligibility and accepted items, and keep disposal separate from the moving appointment. The moving page converts these checks into a date-and-backup plan.

Confirm who clears each entrance and walking route before moving day.

13 /

Turn the closing date into an arrival plan

Work backwards from the day you get keys. Two weeks out: confirm water and sewer accounts and transfers with the actual provider, read current notices, set up electric and internet, verify the designated collection account, and book the move through the Elizabethville moving page. One week out: confirm the truck plan and the backup date, confirm the cleanout date and item rules with the designated collector, and set aside what travels with you. In the first days after arrival: register the car and update voter registration, meet the borough office, and — with children — complete the enrollment arranged with the district before attendance.

Keep a Plan B for the failures that matter here: a storm date (the backup moving day, agreed in advance) and a slipped closing (which items go to storage, which travel with you). The guide's sections hold the details; the moving page holds the estimate.
