Start with the decision in front of you

If you are still choosing an address, start with orientation, the address checks and housing. Compare the actual rooms, property condition and daily journeys. With children, go next to current school registration and confirm the address with the district.

If you already have keys or a closing date, read arrival and work backwards through accounts, collection, vehicle position and access. The Tallmadge moving page covers dates, inventory, packing and the estimate.

Understand Tallmadge before comparing addresses

Tallmadge is an incorporated city in Ohio, on Akron’s northeast side. The City of Tallmadge is the starting point for utilities, residential collection, street maintenance and seasonal work. Its municipal boundary is different from a postal address, a school assignment or an approved loading position.

The ACS 2024 five-year profile estimates about 82.7% owner occupancy among occupied households and 82.9% single-unit housing. These citywide sampled estimates have margins of error and do not describe every house, street or moving inventory. The five modules below are practical address and service checks, not residential neighborhood boundaries.

Compare the whole property, not just the price

The ACS 2024 five-year city profile reports a median owner-occupied value of $232,500, with a margin of error of $7,100, and median household income of about $89,400, with a margin of about $7,300. These are sampled citywide estimates, not current asking prices or a forecast for a particular property.

Compare the actual rent or purchase cost, building condition, systems, rooms and storage spaces. Inspect any basement, garage, steps and carrying turns that exist. Check the address’s water, sewer or septic arrangement and any ongoing responsibilities. In rentals, obtain the landlord’s written move rules and account responsibilities before booking.

Test the actual journey and bus alternative

The ACS 2024 five-year mean travel time to work is about 25 minutes, with a 2.5-minute margin of error. It is an average across workers, not an Akron journey-time promise. Test the outward and return trip from the actual home at your real hours.

METRO Route 20 — Tallmadge/Brimfield lists RKP Transit Center, Independence Transit Center, Tallmadge Circle and Brimfield Walmart, with separate weekday and weekend schedules in the August 2026 leaflet. Check the nearest usable stop, walking connection, detours and return service using METRO’s current schedules or 330-762-0341. The Job Center is not served on weekends. A route through the city does not mean every home has an easy bus connection.

If anyone works from home, verify internet service and installation access at the actual address before signing.

Confirm assignment and complete current registration

Use Tallmadge City Schools’ current registration and confirm the address, assigned school, transportation and program with the registrar, 330-633-3291 ext. 3194. New families submit pre-registration and documents through FinalForms, then wait for approval. A nearby campus or an older grade listing does not determine a child’s placement.

The district says it does not offer open enrollment and requires residency in the district. Its current document list includes a birth certificate, immunization record, parent photo ID and custody documents if applicable. Homeowners provide a deed or closing disclosure and renters a valid lease, plus two current documents of different listed types showing the parent’s name and address. The page lists options such as utility bills other than phone bills, a pay stub, qualifying insurance, voter registration or property-tax documents; use the current list for your situation.

Watch for the approval message and finish any missing documents. Confirm kindergarten eligibility and other program requirements with the registrar before relying on a date from an older district page. A municipal map does not determine individual school assignment.

Set up the actual accounts and owner responsibilities

The Utilities Department explains city water distribution and two sewer arrangements: District I is city-maintained with treatment in Akron, while District II uses the county-owned Fish Creek plant and is billed by the city. Some homes use septic systems. Confirm the property’s actual arrangement at 330-633-0851. The new-customer instructions require a call, ownership documents and a signed contract; in rentals, the owner remains responsible for the city bill.

For a property transferred into your name, the city’s new-customer instructions ask you to call 330-633-0851 option 3, provide a driver’s license and closing disclosure, and sign a Water Department contract at 46 North Avenue or through the linked Contact Us route. Confirm the procedure and dates with the office before sending account documents. Do not assume that running water completes the handover.

The billing page says water, sewer and stormwater are billed quarterly and rental-property owners remain responsible. If a renter is to receive the bill, the owner must request that arrangement; a copy still goes to the owner. Agree the responsibilities in writing with the landlord.

Gas and electricity accounts are separate from the city’s aggregation supply programs. Confirm delivery and start dates with the property’s utilities — Ohio Edison at 800-633-4766 and Enbridge Gas Ohio at 800-362-7557 are listed by the city — and review any existing supplier contract before changing supply. Aggregation does not guarantee the lowest price. Internet and Rumpke collection are separate arrangements.

The Rumpke contract: carts, free bulk, one call

Sanitation runs on the city's Rumpke contract, per the sanitation page: residents get a 95-gallon trash cart and a 65-gallon recycling cart; new residents open the account by calling Rumpke at 1-800-828-8171 (and cancel the same way when leaving). The quarterly rate schedule is published through 2030, with a low-volume tier. Recycling rides loose in the green cart, empty, clean and dry; flattened cardboard, no shredded paper.

The move-relevant part: bulk items are included free — contact Rumpke before your service day to arrange them; furniture and mattresses wrapped in plastic, bundles under four feet, 18 inches in diameter and fifty pounds, freon appliances emptied and tagged professionally. Loose city leaf collection has a separate seasonal schedule. Read the current arrangement before staging a move-out cleanout.

09 /

Confirm loading permission and winter restrictions

Review the proposed position with the owner or landlord and moving team: actual permission, surface, width, overhead clearance, turning space and a connected carrying route for the assigned vehicle. A driveway photograph does not establish that a truck fits or may use it. For a street position, reservation or container, ask the city about the exact address, vehicle and date; Street Department is at 330-633-5130 for practical street questions.

The city’s snow-emergency guidance prohibits parking on all city streets during a snow emergency and describes the two-inch snowfall rule. Check active restrictions before a winter move. Keep collection carts and the carrying route usable; the city says carts belong behind the curb or at the mouth of the driveway, not in the street.

Arrange collection and loading so carts, the footpath and the carrying route remain usable. The moving page’s parking section turns the confirmed position into a day-of plan.

10 /

Walk the full route before moving day

Check the actual entry, hall turns and any stairs rather than assuming a house type has a level or predictable carrying route. Measure the largest pieces against the real route, and photograph the stairs and the parking situation for the estimate.

Outside, watch cracked driveway slabs for the edges that eat dolly wheels. In rentals, the landlord's written rules come before the day.

11 /

Check the destinations you will actually use

The Tallmadge Branch Library at 90 Community Road, 330-633-4345, is currently closed for repairs and remodeling, with reopening scheduled for summer 2027. Most branch services and meeting rooms are temporarily unavailable. The page lists a bookmobile for holds pickup, returns and limited browsing on Thursdays, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and the first Saturday of the month, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; check changes before going.

Test the real grocery, pharmacy, school and recreation journeys from the home, at the hours you will use them. Check opening hours and the walking or driving connection rather than assuming every address shares a close civic or park loop.

The school calendar, the leaf pickup, the holiday delays

The 2026 residential leaf collection starts Monday, November 9, is planned for about eight weeks and works through southwest, southeast, northwest and northeast quadrants, with at least two visits to each. Confirm the actual street’s current instructions and dates with the city or Street Department, 330-633-5130. The launch date is not a promised visit to every street.

The 2026 collection holiday sheet delays Thursday service by one day for Thanksgiving, November 26. It lists no residential trash or recycling delay for Christmas, December 25, or New Year’s Day, January 1, 2027. Read the correct holiday and service day rather than assuming every holiday changes the route.

In winter, the city’s snow guidance directs owners to keep sidewalks clear and not push snow back into the road. It prohibits street parking during a snow emergency and describes the two-inch snowfall rule. Prepare the entry and carrying route and confirm active restrictions; clearing the home’s walk does not mean every road is ready. The moving page covers date alternatives.

13 /

Turn the closing date into an arrival plan

Work backwards from the confirmed key handover. Arrange the actual water-account procedure and landlord responsibilities, open the Rumpke account at 1-800-828-8171, confirm internet installation and book the move through the Tallmadge moving page. Keep account confirmations and school-registration documents with you.

Before the day, confirm vehicle position, carrying route and the agreed response to a changed date. Arrange any departing furniture pickup with Rumpke before the regular service day and prepare items as instructed. On arrival, confirm the accounts and collection day and finish any missing district-registration steps. For license, vehicle or voting changes, check the current state or county requirements separately; moving day does not establish those deadlines.

Agree a backup for a storm or slipped closing: which belongings may need storage, which travel with you and who confirms the new delivery date.
