Movers in Kittery, ME

Start with the furniture, the rooms it needs to reach and the dates you can use both properties. Sterling Oakbridge brings those details together for your Kittery move, whether the next address is nearby or across a state line.

01 /

Describe the whole job before choosing a date

Send both complete addresses, a room-by-room inventory and the dates you are considering. Include a basement, garage, storage unit or second pickup if one forms part of the move. Mark anything going to a different destination.

Photographs are especially useful for bulky pieces, collections and furniture assembled inside the home. Show the item and the route it must take. A room count alone will not tell us whether a tall cabinet can turn on a stair landing.

Give the state at both ends. A move between Kittery and Portsmouth crosses from Maine to New Hampshire, even when the addresses appear close together. The estimate needs the actual locations and requested work.

Choose what you want the team to handle

Some households want a complete packing service; others have already prepared most rooms and need help with selected items. Explain where you are in the process and what you would like finished at delivery.

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

Heavy itemsPianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables

Hanging and installationPictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately
Business equipmentOffice furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route

Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

If belongings will go into storage, identify that group early. For a smaller move, list the pieces individually so the plan reflects their handling and access, as well as their number.

Compare estimates with the same details

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.

Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

Use the same inventory, dates and packing request when comparing proposals. Include the stairs, proposed vehicle position, carrying distance and any additional stop. Ask how a change would be recorded and priced.

Separate the work you need from assumptions about what a move usually includes. Boxes, packing time, specialist tasks and removal charges should be clear before moving day. Keep the agreed scope available when you confirm the booking.

Show the turn between stair flights

A staircase is more than a count of steps. Photograph the complete lower flight, the landing, the upper flight and the doorway at the destination. Include the handrail and the lowest overhead clearance.

Measure the narrow points and substantial furniture where possible. At a turn, a piece may need room above or beside the landing that is not obvious in a close-up photograph. Tell us about another entrance if it offers a possible route.

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

For shared premises, agree which door the crew will use, who can open it and how other occupants will continue to get through. Confirm the work window with the person responsible for the property.

Make a parking plan for the moving vehicle

Show the driveway entrance or street position, the space around it and the path to the door. Include low branches, a change of level, a shared access or a turn that may affect the vehicle.

A place used for a household car is not automatically suitable for a moving vehicle. Confirm property permission and any current street restriction before relying on it. Use the Town of Kittery’s contacts to find the appropriate office for a location-specific question.

Leave room for unloading and an unobstructed carrying route. If your preferred space is unavailable, discuss the alternative with the planning team; a longer path or different vehicle arrangement can change the work.

Pack for the contents and the first night

Keep keys, documents, medication and chargers with you, along with a change of clothes and the things needed before the cartons are opened. Label the shipment by receiving room, with a separate mark for storage.

Books belong in small book cartons. Use larger cartons for suitably lighter contents, and protect fragile pieces according to their shape and handling needs. Keep one packing task together so unfinished work is easy to identify.

If you are sharing the packing with the team, agree exactly which items remain for us. A clearly separated group is easier to plan than a room where ready and unfinished cartons look alike.

Labor, materials and optional work

Item or taskHow it is charged
Basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyPart of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee
Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tapeNo separate charge for these basic protection materials
Boxes supplied for your moveCharged separately
PackingCharged for working time; boxes are separate
Unwrapping furniturePart of delivery
Unpacking the contents of boxesOptional work, charged for working time

Complex furniture and other specialist workIndividually quoted after review

Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

07 /

Give unwanted items a confirmed destination

Before the move, separate what you will keep from items to donate, recycle or discard. Arrange each destination and collection date while there is still space to sort the belongings.

Kittery’s transfer facility requires an eligible vehicle decal. Commercial use has separate licensing rules, so a resident’s access does not establish that a moving crew may use it. Confirm the arrangement for your load.

The Freebie Barn is a seasonal reuse option, subject to current acceptance and donation dates. Have a second plan for an item that is declined. Donation, disposal and any separately quoted removal work should each have a clear owner.

08 /

Match pickup to the handover at the other end

Confirm when the old property must be empty and when the new one can be entered. Add packing, building access and any extra stop to that plan. Provide a reachable contact at each address.

In our experience across the service area, summer and the end and beginning of the month tend to be busier, with another rise around mid-month. Discuss dates early and tell us where you have flexibility; that observation does not establish availability for an individual Kittery move.

If someone else will receive the shipment, give that person the room plan and authority to answer placement questions. Your own travel arrangements need to leave someone available at delivery.

Keep a plan for a gap between homes

Direct and consolidated long-distance moving

Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.

When a closing, renovation or rental handover changes, contact the planning team promptly. Discuss available storage or delivery alternatives and confirm the handling, charges and next date before relying on a revised arrangement.

Keep the belongings needed during a gap outside the stored shipment. If one group must be available earlier, identify it before loading and ask whether the requested sequence can be accommodated.

10 /

Plan the order in which work can restart

For an office, shop or other business, list furniture, equipment, stock and records separately. Identify anything needing technical preparation and decide which receiving areas must be usable first.

Confirm loading access, keys, alarms and the work window with the property contact. If customers or staff will still be using the premises, agree how their access will work during the move.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Label placements rather than leaving the crew to infer a workstation or stockroom layout. Explain unusual handling needs in advance, including specialist equipment that is outside an ordinary furniture move.

11 /

Prepare the route before carrying begins

Clear the agreed path of loose cartons, bags and small furniture. Keep children and pets away from the working route, and tell the crew lead about any change at the property before large pieces are carried.

Discuss protection for floors and belongings as part of the plan. Flag unusual furniture construction early: basic disassembly and reassembly are different from complex or specialist work.

At delivery, show the room labels and intended furniture positions. Leave doors, drawers and the paths between rooms usable while the remaining shipment is brought in.

12 /

Finish with a walkthrough and the remaining tasks

Review the receiving rooms with the crew lead. Confirm placements, agreed reassembly and anything still to be completed. Raise a concern while the people and paperwork are available.

Unwrapping furniture, unpacking carton contents and taking away packaging are separate tasks. Check which you requested and how materials left after later unpacking will be handled.

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

Questions before you move

Can you move a household between Kittery and New Hampshire?

Yes. Sterling Oakbridge handles local and interstate household moves. Provide the complete addresses and states, inventory, access and requested services so the plan reflects the actual job.

What photographs help with an upstairs room?

Show both complete stair flights, the landing, handrails, overhead clearance and the doorway into the room. Include larger furniture and measurements of limiting openings where possible.

Can I pack most rooms and leave selected items for you?

Yes. Describe the remaining items and agree the packing work beforehand. Keep that group separate from ready-to-load cartons so the time and materials can be planned.

Can I reserve a street space simply by placing my own cones?

Do not rely on an unconfirmed arrangement. Check property permission and the applicable street rules with the responsible authority, then share the approved access instructions with the planning team.

Are boxes included with basic furniture protection materials?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Can you unpack and remove the empty packaging?

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

What if the new property is not ready for delivery?

Contact us as soon as the timing changes. Review available storage or delivery alternatives and confirm revised dates, handling and charges before relying on a new arrangement.

Can an office move take place in stages?

Phased, weekend or after-hours work can be arranged within the agreed scope and available schedule. Confirm access, staff responsibilities and the areas that need to reopen first.
