Movers in Chester, MD

Sterling Oakbridge helps with moves to, from and within Chester, Maryland. We plan the handling, packing and delivery around your belongings, the two properties and the time you have available.

01 /

A Chester move starts with your next address

A move across Kent Island and a move across the Bay Bridge can involve quite different days. The distance is only part of it: a shared entrance, a second collection address or a gap between homes may matter just as much. Tell us what you need to move and when you can use each property.

Our service covers household and business moves, packing and storage. You can ask for help with the full move or selected work. If you are still comparing addresses, the Chester relocation guide brings together the local services and daily journeys worth checking before you decide.

02 /

Choose the work you want completed

Begin with the rooms and storage spaces that are actually included. Add belongings kept in an attic, garage or other building, and mark anything staying behind. If possessions are going to more than one place, identify those destinations on the inventory.

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

One person should be available to resolve questions about the list. When several relatives are involved, settle ownership and destination choices before loading begins; the crew should not have to guess which version of the plan is current.

Follow the furniture from room to vehicle

Look at the largest piece you are bringing and trace its full route. A wide front door does not help if an inner turn is too tight. Include stair landings, low lights, porch rails, gates and the final stretch of path in the survey photographs.

For an apartment or managed property, ask about the entrance designated for deliveries. Find out whether a lift can be reserved and whether the route crosses areas other residents need. Keep a copy of the instructions with the move details.

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

04 /

Allow room to work beside the truck

Show the approach, the proposed vehicle position and the walking route to the door in one set of photographs. Include the height under branches or a canopy, the driveway slope, turning space and where a ramp would meet the ground.

Check who controls the road or shared drive. The county Roads Division is a starting point for county-maintained road questions; a state road or private community may have a different contact. A driveway entrance permit is not permission to reserve a public loading space.

Obtain the relevant property instructions and confirm any street restrictions for the actual vehicle. Keep adjacent entrances and through access available. If the space will be occupied by another delivery, agree which vehicle comes first.

05 /

Keep bridge travel separate from the delivery appointment

If your route crosses the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, check the official traffic and camera links before departure. An arrival estimate should allow for conditions that day, especially when a building has a fixed receiving window.

The MDTA wind rules can restrict some vehicles and, in severe conditions, stop traffic. The decision depends on the conditions and vehicle; a forecast is not permission to cross. Agree how you will exchange updates if a hold affects the schedule.

Keep keys and the person who can admit the crew available within the agreed window. If a delay would make access impossible, tell the planner early so the next step can be decided before the truck reaches a closed entrance.

06 /

Make packing decisions by contents

A partly packed home is easier to plan when the remaining work is clear. Identify the cupboards or collections you want us to pack and those you will finish yourself. Mention fragile contents, original packaging you have kept and anything that needs separate handling.

Labor, materials and optional work

Item or taskHow it is charged
Basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyPart of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee
Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tapeNo separate charge for these basic protection materials
Boxes supplied for your moveCharged separately
PackingCharged for working time; boxes are separate
Unwrapping furniturePart of delivery
Unpacking the contents of boxesOptional work, charged for working time
Packaging and waste removalCharged separately
Complex furniture and other specialist workIndividually quoted after review

Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

Set aside the things you will carry personally: medication, keys, essential documents and what you need for the first night. Keep that group away from the load and tell everyone involved where it is.

07 /

Check what the estimate includes

Give us the addresses, inventory, dates and chosen services together with the access information. A home office, garden furniture, extra pickup or storage stop belongs in that description, even if it seems a small part of the day.

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.

Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

Read the estimate against the work you requested. If your inventory, destination or dates change, ask for the implications to be recorded before proceeding. This keeps the agreed scope usable for you and for the crew.

08 /

Give unusual items a separate plan

Send dimensions and clear photographs of a piano, safe, oversized cabinet or other awkward item. Include its base, any fragile fittings and the tightest part of the route. Tell us about repairs or loose components you already know about.

Specialist services by individual quote

What needs attentionWork available for review
Complex furnitureBunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly
Heavy itemsPianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables
Art and collectionsFine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification
Hanging and installationPictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately
Business equipmentOffice furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route

Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

Agree who prepares anything that cannot travel as it stands. Do not detach a rail, door or built-in part without the property owner’s permission and a suitable plan for putting it back.

09 /

Set up the next working day

For a business move, identify what must be operational first. Label furniture and cartons by the new layout, with one person responsible for final placement decisions. Keep sensitive records within your existing arrangements for access and custody.

Confirm delivery hours and avoid scheduling several suppliers into the same loading area at once. Assign responsibility for computers, network connections and equipment before the move; furniture placement and technical setup are different tasks. A home office can need the same coordination on a smaller scale.

10 /

Plan for a gap between properties

If the closing or handover dates do not line up, discuss storage while arranging the move. Separate possessions you will need during the gap from those that can stay packed, and identify any items that must remain accessible.

Direct and consolidated long-distance moving

Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.

Before unloading, walk the destination with the crew and confirm which rooms receive larger pieces. Keep the route clear and point out any fresh paint, unfinished work or area that cannot yet be used. A brief check at the door can prevent furniture being carried twice.

Agree on protection and the work after delivery

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

At the end, check the rooms and the remaining load together. Keep the paperwork and report anything that needs attention through the agreed process. Packing debris, unwanted furniture and contents you choose to unpack later should each have a clear next step.

The county’s resident transfer-station system excludes commercial and contractor disposal. Do not assume a household ticket book can be used by a hired crew. Discuss removal as its own service and use the disposal route appropriate to the job.

Questions before you move

Do you handle a move within Chester as well as a move out of Maryland?

Yes. Discuss the route and the work you need with Sterling Oakbridge. A local move, an interstate move and a move involving storage are planned from their actual scope and access requirements.

What information is useful for the first estimate?

The collection and delivery addresses, an inventory, preferred dates and the services you want. Photos should show unusual items, stairs, tight turns and the route between the door and the proposed truck position.

Can you promise an exact arrival time across the Bay Bridge?

The agreed schedule needs to account for traffic and any official restrictions. Keep contact details current and discuss a backup arrangement if the destination has a short access window.

Are blankets, wrap and tape charged separately?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Does delivery include unpacking every box?

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

Can I reserve a street space by placing cones outside?

Confirm the arrangement with the authority responsible for that street and the property manager. A preferred space or privately placed cone does not establish a right to occupy the roadway.

What if I receive the new keys later than expected?

Contact the planner as soon as the handover becomes uncertain. Agree the next step before the move proceeds, including whether storage, a different delivery window or another arrangement is needed.

Can unwanted belongings go to the county transfer station with the movers?

Do not assume so. The county ticket-book program is for residents and property owners and does not allow commercial or contractor disposal. Tell us which items need removal so the scope and charges can be reviewed separately.
