Movers in Groton, MA

Sterling Oakbridge helps with moves to, from and within Groton, Massachusetts. Tell us what is moving and how the properties work so we can plan the handling, packing and delivery around your needs.

01 /

Start with the change you want to make

Perhaps you are bringing a household together, making space for a home office or leaving a larger property for something easier to manage. Decide which belongings support the new arrangement before packing them by habit.

For a move involving relatives or several destinations, identify who may approve decisions and which items belong at each stop. Keep a written room plan for the receiving home. It can settle a furniture question before the piece is in the doorway.

If you are still choosing an address, the Groton local guide helps you compare everyday needs. Once the property is known, the moving plan can be built around its actual entrances, rooms and access times.

02 /

Choose how much help you need

A full household move, selected rooms going to storage and help loading belongings you have already packed are different jobs. Describe the finish you want, including anything that should be delivered later.

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

Moving helpWhat we can includeWhat to send
Local residential movingLoading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyBoth addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property
Interstate movingPickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when neededDestination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment
Commercial movingOffice and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictionsBusiness type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect
Packing and unpackingSelected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpackingWhat you will pack and what you want us to prepare
Storage and staged deliveryStorage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery planExpected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage
Designer and hotel furniture receivingReceiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed planExpected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site

If you are moving in stages, choose a clear separation between the first load and the belongings that stay in use. Put the destination on each group, especially where two households or a storage stop are involved.

Look beyond the first doorway

Follow a large piece from its room to the vehicle and through the receiving home. At a staircase, show the approach, the narrowest point, the landing and the turn at the top. At a ground-floor doorway, include the space on both sides.

A desk can fit through an opening yet leave no room to rotate in the hall. Measure the pieces you intend to keep and photograph the awkward transitions. Point out low ceilings, fixed rails and fragile fittings while there is time to plan around them.

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Agree any proposed removal of a door or fitting with the owner and crew. Keep children and pets away from the carrying route, and move the small hallway furniture that could obstruct it.

04 /

Reserve a usable working position

Show the driveway entrance, surface, slope and space for the vehicle to leave. A shared parking court needs a plan for both unloading and the people still using the building. Ask the manager which space may be used and who will keep it available.

Leave working room behind the vehicle and a clear pedestrian route. Tell us about low branches, soft shoulders, tight turns or another contractor arriving on the same day. Do not assume that a space used by a household car can accommodate the moving vehicle.

Groton’s snow and ice rules prohibit overnight on-street parking during the November 15–April 15 winter ban. A declared snow emergency prohibits on-street parking. Check current notices and the proposed loading location; ordinary daytime access and a reserved moving space still need their own arrangements.

Pack for the rooms that will receive the load

Walk through the shelves, cupboards, basement and outdoor storage before deciding how much packing remains. A home office may contain a few large pieces and many small items that need different treatment. Keep sensitive papers, backups and devices you need immediately with you.

Use small cartons for books and other dense contents, and suitable larger cartons for lighter bedding and towels. Mark the destination room on the side so the label remains useful when boxes are stacked. Set aside a first-night bag before those familiar items disappear into the load.

Labor, materials and optional work

Item or taskHow it is charged
Basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyPart of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee
Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tapeNo separate charge for these basic protection materials
Boxes supplied for your moveCharged separately
PackingCharged for working time; boxes are separate
Unwrapping furniturePart of delivery
Unpacking the contents of boxesOptional work, charged for working time
Packaging and waste removalCharged separately
Complex furniture and other specialist workIndividually quoted after review

Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

If you want us to pack only part of the home, identify those rooms or contents in advance. Keep things awaiting disposal, items staying at the property and belongings for a different recipient visibly apart.

Describe the piece and the route together

Tell us about a piano, large cabinet, unusually heavy item or equipment needing specialist attention before the date. Include its dimensions, loose parts and any preparation already planned, with views of access at both ends.

Specialist services by individual quote

What needs attentionWork available for review
Complex furnitureBunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly
Heavy itemsPianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables
Art and collectionsFine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification
Hanging and installationPictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately
Business equipmentOffice furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route

Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

Keep hardware with the item it belongs to. Where a technician must disconnect, prepare or install something, agree who is arranging that work and when it will be ready. Transport alone does not settle every operation needed before or after it.

07 /

Put the full scope in one place

For the estimate, bring these details together:

  • Collection, delivery and additional-stop addresses.
  • An inventory covering stored belongings as well as the main rooms.
  • Preferred dates, key handover and building access times.
  • Packing, storage, unpacking or removal work you want included.
  • Photographs of the entrances, stairs, tight turns and vehicle position.

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.

Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

Update that same plan if a room is added, the receiving date moves or the entrance changes. Bedroom count alone cannot describe a filled workshop, a long carry or a second delivery. Keep the revised scope with the estimate.

08 /

Keep the business handover organized

For an office, shop or other business, decide which equipment and furniture must be usable first. Label the new positions and name one person who can make decisions while the move is underway.

Agree receiving hours, access to shared areas and where the vehicle can work. If staff or customers remain on site, keep their route clear. A booking with the business does not replace approval from the building manager where that is required.

Have the responsible provider prepare technical equipment and arrange reconnection. Keep passwords, records and backups under your control. Set aside what the business needs during the interruption so it does not travel in an inaccessible carton.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

09 /

Build the date around keys and readiness

Confirm when each property will actually be available. A closing or lease date is useful, but the crew also needs a receiving contact and a time when entry is possible. If someone is acting on your behalf, settle what they may approve.

In our scheduling experience, summer and dates near the middle, end and start of a month can be busy. Discuss those dates early and provide an alternative if you have flexibility. Availability is confirmed for the particular job.

If keys, repairs or another delivery slip, tell us while the plan can be reviewed. Discuss storage and later delivery when a gap is possible, including access to anything you will need during it.

Direct and consolidated long-distance moving

Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.

10 /

Keep the route and decisions clear

Before the crew arrives, make the agreed working space available and clear the route through the home. Place personal essentials and items that must remain outside the moving load.

Walk through with the crew lead. Point out any changed access, belongings needing attention and the groups going to separate destinations. A quick decision at the start is easier than discovering an uncertain item after loading.

At delivery, mark the rooms and keep enough floor space for the larger pieces. Confirm placement while the crew can act on it. Keep the paperwork and receiving contact available until the agreed work is complete.

Choose what happens after delivery

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

Decide whether you want cartons unpacked, packaging removed or unwanted belongings taken away. Include those tasks in the agreed work. Items left beside a door are easily confused with the shipment.

For self-haul, Groton’s transfer-station page separates household trash from recycling and lists bulky items. Check the relevant sticker, accepted material and fee before a trip. The local guide explains the household options; town disposal charges are separate from a moving-company service quote.

Questions before you move

Can Sterling Oakbridge move a household within Groton or from another state?

Yes. We handle local and interstate household moves. Send the actual addresses and required work so access, scope and timing can be reviewed together.

What should I show you about a narrow staircase?

Show the approach, the narrowest opening, the landing and the turn at the top, with the dimensions of the awkward item. Include the receiving route too.

Does a minimum number of hours mean the move must finish within that time?

No. A minimum and an estimate serve different purposes. Local working time depends on the actual scope, access, readiness and conditions under the written terms.

Can you pack only the office or selected fragile contents?

Yes. Identify the contents you want us to prepare and what you will pack yourself so the division of work is clear.

What if the new home is not available on the planned day?

Tell us as soon as the change is known. Discuss storage, a revised delivery date and access to essential belongings before collection.

Are basic wrapping materials and furniture assembly charged separately?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Can you unpack cartons and remove packaging after delivery?

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

Can a shared parking space be used for the moving vehicle?

Have the manager confirm the proposed position and keep it available. The vehicle needs working room and a way to leave while other people retain access.
