Edison has no dedicated moving-truck permit in its published permit lists — the township's Document Center covers street openings, soil, trees, zoning and similar work, not moving vans. The township code requires written permission from the Director of Public Works before placing materials or articles that encumber or obstruct a street, and it allows the Department of Public Works to permit street occupation of up to one-third of a lane width for a $75 fee. Three parking rules shape the plan. Trucks over four tons are prohibited from parking on residential-zone streets between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. — no overnight staging at the curb. Large trucks are routed onto designated truck routes, but state law (cited in the same chapter) allows trucks making deliveries to use other streets for the delivery itself. The override is weather: when snow covers the streets, township code declares an emergency and prohibits parking on every public street until plowing is done, with removal at the owner's cost. Packing is where most Edison moves are won or lost: post-war houses accumulate decades in basements, attics and garages, and split-level stairs punish loose, overpacked or unsealed boxes. Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

Locally, the practical cost drivers in Edison are access and volume. A ranch with the truck backed to the garage door moves faster than a garden-apartment unit a hundred yards from the nearest parking space. Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Walk the route the crew will take — from the truck position to the entrance and on to the room — and remove what blocks it: cars from the driveway, bins from the walk, snow and ice from the steps. In Edison the owner, occupant or tenant must clear abutting sidewalks within 12 daylight hours after snow falls, so agree with the landlord or association who handles that at both addresses.

Anything you are not taking needs a plan before the truck arrives, and Edison is strict about it: bulk items are never collected on regular garbage days, special pickups must be booked with a confirmation number before anything goes to the curb, and the township's sanitation calendar states flatly that it does not schedule move-ins or move-outs.
