Choose the help you want for your New Rochelle move
Sterling Oakbridge can move your household locally or interstate, prepare selected belongings or a whole home, and arrange storage between addresses. Start with the result you need: a room emptied, a household delivered, a kitchen packed, or a staged move that keeps essential rooms usable. We will review the contents, the route through both properties and the time available before setting out the work.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
A move within New Rochelle, a pickup here for an apartment in New York City, and a departure for another state need different plans. Give us the complete destination rather than choosing a service by distance alone. Include a storage stop, a second delivery address and anything that must travel separately. This lets the estimate cover the actual journey instead of leaving extra handling to be discovered on moving day.
02 /
Make the whole route through the building workable
For a house, start at the proposed truck position and follow the path to the last room that needs moving. Record the driveway, any slope or steps, the entrance, interior turns and the route to upper or lower floors. For an apartment, add the service entrance, every elevator or transfer point, corridors and the apartment door. A wide front door cannot compensate for a tight turn beyond it.
Send photographs showing the complete approach, not only the room of furniture. For the largest or heaviest pieces, include their dimensions, construction and any known removable parts. Tell us about a piano, a large wardrobe, exercise equipment or an unusually heavy table before the day is booked. The practical question is which method and preparation will let that particular item complete the route.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
Get the usable window confirmed
Ask the person who can authorize the move to confirm the entrance, elevator, permitted work hours and any protection requirements in writing. A requested elevator slot is still a request until management accepts it. If the building needs a COI, forward the exact wording, certificate-holder details, submission contact and deadline. Confirm whether the same elevator is shared with residents and whether another lift is needed after a transfer floor.
When the carrying window is short, separate work that can happen earlier from work allowed only during that window. Materials delivery, packing or furniture preparation may be possible beforehand with permission. The departure window and receiving window do not have to be identical, but loading, the lawful truck journey and unloading must fit in sequence. We review that sequence before agreeing to a plan.

03 /
Arrange a truck position that serves the actual entrance
The useful truck position is the one the vehicle can lawfully occupy while the crew can reach the approved entrance. Send the street, the side of the building used for moving and a photo of the approach. Tell us if the building has a loading area or if the job depends on curb space. We can coordinate arrangements, but a building reservation, a municipal permission and a space that happens to be empty are different things.
New Rochelle’s vehicle code distinguishes commercial-vehicle standing from active delivery or service, and separately identifies loading zones and places where standing is prohibited. The general rule in the metered-parking article contains a payment exception for commercial vehicles while actually loading or unloading, alongside separate provisions for named street segments. Check the actual location and posted restrictions. The exception does not reserve a space or authorize using a bus stop, fire lane or prohibited location.
A public garage is a poor fallback for a moving truck: the City’s parking rules impose separate truck-weight limits for structures and lots, with low and varying garage clearances. We need to review the actual vehicle and site rather than substitute an ordinary parking permit for a moving arrangement.
If the planned position is unavailable
Identify an alternative before dispatch. The move coordinator and the person authorized for the property should establish whether another position can be used, who will approve it and how a longer carry changes labor or equipment. Do not put out household cones or treat a neighbor’s driveway as an agreed solution. If the usable position changes on the day, pause the affected work while the permitted alternative and its cost are agreed.

04 /
Plan for a moving truck, including the final approach
The route used by your car may be unsuitable for the moving vehicle. NYSDOT’s parkway guidance warns commercial drivers about prohibited routes and low bridges. Do not direct a moving truck onto the Hutchinson River Parkway or another restricted parkway because a passenger-car navigation app suggests it.
Provide the actual pickup and delivery entrances and any instructions from the property. Our route review must account for the chosen vehicle, its dimensions and the final streets into the site. A main-road journey does not settle the last turn, driveway slope or clearance under a building canopy. Photographs are particularly helpful where the entrance is around the corner from the postal address.
For a move involving New York City, include the borough, service entrance and the receiving building’s vehicle and delivery requirements. For an interstate journey, include fixed dates, any second stop and who can receive the shipment. We will review the route and operating sequence with the access plan; a shorter mileage figure by itself is not a promise of a shorter job.
05 /
Decide what should be ready before the carrying window
Choose full packing if you want the household prepared by the team, or selected-item packing if you will handle ordinary contents and want help with fragile, difficult or time-consuming items. State the division room by room. A kitchen still in daily use, books in several rooms and a collection needing individual protection are different tasks even when the properties have similar floor areas.
Tell us what must remain available overnight and what can be packed earlier. Keep personal documents, medication, valuables and the things you need on the journey under your own control. If some belongings are going to storage and others to the new home, mark the destinations before packing begins. Keep a separate group for items needed before the stored shipment is released.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
At delivery, distinguish furniture unwrapping from opening and putting away the contents of cartons. If you want the kitchen usable, children’s essentials located or boxes removed after unpacking, describe that result in your request. We can then review the time, scope and separately charged removal instead of assuming all finishing work belongs to basic delivery.

06 /
Review complex pieces before they reach the doorway
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly are part of moving labor. Complex pieces need their own review. Send photographs of the whole item, how it is constructed and any model information or assembly instructions. Explain whether a wardrobe is fixed to the wall, whether a bed has a mechanism and whether a sofa has previously been taken apart to enter the home.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
The chosen protection must suit the item and the next operation. Loose contents and removable components need a deliberate packing and identification plan. Protect the piece before handling and maintain a clear route; a blanket thrown over an object does not make an obstructed staircase workable. If the inspected route cannot accommodate the piece by an agreed method, resolve the alternative before it is loaded.
Hanging and technical work are separate decisions. Identify the object, the wall or connection and who can authorize that work at the destination. Tell us which tasks need completion for the room to function. Do not assume that transporting an appliance or a workstation includes reconnecting it or commissioning the system.

07 /
What determines the estimate and the final charge
The estimate starts with your inventory, packing responsibilities and the usable route at each property. Stairs, carrying distance, shared elevators, several stops, preparation on a separate day and specialist items can change the work. Give us those details early so the written terms describe the job you intend to have done.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Ask the written estimate to identify travel or waiting arrangements, boxes, optional unpacking, specialist work and any applicable building or municipal charges. A low initial item count is not helpful if a storage room or basement is left out. If the move changes, send the revised list and access instructions before the affected work, so staffing, timing and any price change can be reviewed together.
For a realistic comparison between estimates, compare the same contents and the same result. One proposal may include packing before move day, while another expects everything boxed when the crew arrives. One may include a final storage delivery, while another ends at the first address. Those are different jobs even if both proposals use the word moving.
08 /
Choose a day that the properties and the work can support
Start with the dates that cannot move: the end of your lease, the release of keys, an accepted building window or the day the receiving person can attend. Then work backward through packing, any preparation visit and the journey. School dates, summer plans and the beginning or end of a month may matter to your household; they do not establish a lower rate or an available crew.
Keep expected access separate from confirmed access. A planned closing does not mean you may unload before keys are released. If the date is uncertain, tell the coordinator when you expect confirmation and when a decision about storage or rescheduling must be made. Last-minute planning cannot remove a building’s submission deadline or a municipal restriction.
In winter, arrange for the entire entrance route to be usable, including the public approach, steps, handrails and the path to the truck position. New Rochelle’s snowfall parking provisions apply to specified streets after a qualifying snow event. Check the actual street and any current notices before relying on the normal position. A clear private driveway does not settle the condition of the public road.

Keep delivery and storage in one written plan
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
If the two homes are not available on the same timetable, discuss storage before pickup. Specify what will be stored, anything you may need to retrieve, the expected duration and who can authorize the later delivery. A storage telephone number is not confirmation of space, receiving access or a delivery appointment.
Choose your delivery model around the receiving task. A wider agreed delivery window for a suitable consolidated shipment may be workable when someone can receive throughout that period. A direct move has different truck and crew arrangements. Tell us if the receiving building offers only one short slot, or if your travel plans depend on the delivery date, so we can review a workable option rather than promise a timetable the property cannot accept.
Keep both the shipment destination and the place where people will stay in the plan. If belongings wait in storage, pack the documents, clothes and everyday items you will need during that gap separately. Record how the next stage is requested and confirmed; an estimated date should not silently become a booked final delivery.
10 /
Select protection and identify high-value items in advance
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
Photographs and an item list also help identify existing condition and special handling needs. Point out vulnerable finishes, loose joints, glass, artwork and pieces with unusual construction before preparation starts. The handling method, any specialist quote and the selected liability arrangement are related decisions, but one does not replace the others.
Keep the agreed inventory and move documents available to the person receiving the shipment. At delivery, allow time for the documented check and note any issue through the stated process. Ask about a term you do not understand before choosing a protection level; an informal description of insurance is not a substitute for the actual written option.
11 /
Separate what will move from what needs another destination
Before the final inventory, decide which pieces you want at the new address, which belong in storage and which are leaving the household. Removing an unwanted item from the shipment can reduce handling, but disposal may require its own work, appointment and charge. Tell us what needs removal and where the material is supposed to go.
The City’s 2026 collection guide separates normal refuse, recyclables, mattresses, metal appliances and electronics. Its instructions do not mean every cleared-out item can be left at the curb on moving day. Verify the address’s collection arrangement and item category first, especially for an apartment building. The detailed guide also contains differing wording for metal pickup; confirm that appointment directly rather than select a day from one isolated line.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
For business work, name the people responsible for equipment shutdown, records, access and restart. Moving furniture or transporting disconnected IT equipment is different from bringing a business system back into service. Keep the receiving and technical owners involved before the moving window is confirmed.
12 /
Agree what happens if access or timing changes
A useful fallback starts with a specific trigger: the keys have not been released, the service elevator is unavailable, the truck cannot use the approved position or the item does not fit the inspected route. Name the customer or property representative authorized to decide, and a decision deadline while the alternative can still be arranged. Include the coordinator and receiving person in that contact chain.
The alternative needs an available resource, permission and a cost. That could be an accepted later slot, a reviewed longer carry, an agreed separate preparation stage or confirmed storage followed by another delivery. Check where the people and essential items will stay as well as where the shipment will go. A tentative storage option or an unanswered management request is not yet a fallback.
Before dispatch, record which condition would cause the affected work to pause and what confirmation is needed to resume it. If the trigger occurs, the authorized person and coordinator should agree the feasible change and its charges before the affected work continues. Do not rely on a crew to override a closed building or turn an inaccessible entrance into a usable route on arrival.

Request an estimate with the information you already have
Send both addresses, your date or date range, an item list and the main access constraints. Add photos of the biggest pieces, storage areas and the complete approach through each property. Tell us which packing, unpacking, storage or specialist tasks you want included and which decisions are still pending.
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
One contact should be able to explain the departure plan and reach the person controlling receiving access. If someone else is handling the destination, include that person’s role and agreed instructions. We will help identify the remaining questions so the estimate and move plan describe the same work.

Questions before you move
Can you move us within New Rochelle and to another state?
Yes. We provide local and interstate household moving, with packing and storage where needed. Give us both addresses, the contents and your timing so we can review the appropriate work and delivery arrangement. A move to New York City remains within New York State; crossing into Connecticut or New Jersey changes the route’s jurisdiction. The written terms must match the actual journey.
How much will my New Rochelle move cost?
We estimate the job from the contents, agreed tasks, access and timetable. Local work is usually charged by working time under the written terms; estimated hours are not a fixed total. For a long-distance move quoted at an agreed flat rate, the price stays the same for the same shipment and service scope. Send the inventory, both entrances, any stairs or elevator rules, packing needs and date constraints for a useful written estimate.
Do I need to reserve curb space for the moving truck?
The job needs a lawful, usable truck position, but the arrangement depends on the actual street and building. Send the proposed position and management’s loading instructions early so the applicable permission can be established. New Rochelle’s metered-parking rules include a general active-loading payment exception and separate named-street provisions; they do not reserve curb space. A garage permit also does not establish a temporary reservation outside your home. Confirm the location’s rule, who will obtain any required approval and when it is accepted.
Can the truck use the Hutchinson River Parkway?
Do not route a moving truck onto the Hutchinson River Parkway. NYSDOT’s parkway guidance warns commercial drivers about restricted parkways and low clearances. The coordinator needs the actual entrances and selected vehicle to review a suitable route, including the final streets. Passenger-car directions and an apparently convenient entrance are not evidence that the truck can lawfully and safely use it.
Can you handle a building COI and elevator arrangements?
Yes, we can coordinate COIs, elevator scheduling and applicable moving-truck permit arrangements. Forward the building’s written requirements, submission contact and deadline. Management still has to approve the usable entrance and window; our submission is not automatic acceptance. Tell us whether the elevator is shared or reserved and whether the route uses another lift or a transfer floor.
What if our building allows only a short moving window?
We first review whether the actual loading or unloading work can fit the accepted window. Packing, materials delivery or preparation may be arranged earlier when the property permits it. The two addresses need a workable sequence with the truck journey between them. If the window cannot support the work, resolve an accepted alternative, another stage or storage before dispatch instead of relying on an overrun.
Are boxes, protection and furniture assembly included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Photograph complex pieces and identify their construction before the quote. A fixed wardrobe, mechanism bed or specialist sofa may need a different method from ordinary furniture, and the inspected route still has to accommodate the prepared piece.
Can you pack before move day and unpack after delivery?
Yes, we can plan an earlier packing visit when access is permitted, and optional box unpacking at delivery or another agreed stage. Decide which contents should remain usable overnight and identify any separate storage destination before the visit. Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What happens if our new home is not ready?
Discuss a date gap before pickup. Storage needs an agreed inventory, available space, receiving arrangements and a later delivery plan. Keep essential items for the gap with you. Establish the person who can authorize a change, the decision deadline and any additional handling, storage or redelivery cost. If access falls through, affected work pauses until a confirmed alternative and the conditions for continuing are agreed.
Can we leave unwanted furniture or cartons at the curb?
Use the address’s approved collection arrangement and the item’s category. The City’s 2026 guide treats cardboard, mattresses, metal items and electronics differently, and apartment buildings may have their own managed setup. Do not make moving day the default disposal day. Ask for separately scoped removal if you want help, and establish the authorized destination and applicable charges before that work.
Does basic delivery include reconnecting IT or installing everything?
Basic moving does not mean that every technical system or fitting will be ready to use. We can review separately scoped specialist and installation work. IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and startup with your IT team. Tell us what the room or business needs to do after delivery so the moving, installation and technical owners can plan their respective work.
What should I send first for an estimate?
Start with both addresses, dates, an item list and the help you want. Add clear photos of large or complex pieces and the whole carrying route, plus building instructions, stairs, elevator access, storage stops and receiving constraints. You do not need every measurement before contacting us. We will recommend the right review method and identify the missing details that affect the proposed work.
