Plan the work at both Newburgh addresses

Sterling Oakbridge can help with a Newburgh household or business move, from selected-item packing to loading, transport and delivery. Start with the two addresses, an item list and your preferred dates. Tell us what you want to prepare yourself and what you want the moving team to handle. We will review the work before recommending the crew, preparation and estimate.

This page concerns the City of Newburgh, New York. The Town of Newburgh is a separate municipality; a Newburgh mailing address alone does not identify which curb rules apply. Include the complete street address rather than relying on the ZIP code. City parking contacts and collection programs below should not be carried over to a Town address.

For the estimate, describe the route from the truck to the final room at both properties: the loading point, pavement or driveway, entrance, every stair or elevator, corridor, turn and doorway. A short drive does not necessarily make the handling simple. A narrow landing, a shared elevator or a loading place that cannot last through the work can determine whether preparation should happen on another day.

You do not need every answer before making contact. Send the information you have, flag what is still uncertain and give us the building or owner contact who can resolve it. An estimate request starts that review; it does not reserve a date, approve a street space or confirm a particular specialist method.

Choose the moving help you need

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

Moving helpWhat we can includeWhat to send
Local residential movingLoading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyBoth addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property
Interstate movingPickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when neededDestination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment
Commercial movingOffice and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictionsBusiness type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect
Packing and unpackingSelected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpackingWhat you will pack and what you want us to prepare
Storage and staged deliveryStorage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery planExpected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage
Designer and hotel furniture receivingReceiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed planExpected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site

Choose the stages separately if that fits your move. You might pack everyday belongings yourself and ask for fragile-item packing, or arrange packing before a restricted carrying window. Identify furniture that needs to be taken apart and say whether it must be reassembled immediately at delivery. A move within the same property also needs a clear room-to-room route and a place to keep the areas in use clear.

If the new address will not be ready, ask about storage before setting the pickup date. Confirm the contents, anticipated holding period, access needs and later delivery arrangements. Storage availability and the cost of each handling stage need agreement; an inquiry does not establish an available space or free holding time.

Keep the move inventory separate from items you intend to sell, give away or discard. If a recipient or collection is not confirmed, tell the coordinator which items may remain. That lets the estimate account for the shipment you actually intend to move rather than an assumed smaller load.

Business moves and items needing individual review

For a business move, send the equipment and furniture list with the hours when each work area can be taken out of use. Identify the person who can approve shutdown, the person who can release the old premises and the person who will accept delivery. After-hours or phased work can be reviewed around the building's permitted access and the actual staffing required.

An office desk move and a restaurant-equipment move need different preparation. Describe what is attached, connected, unusually heavy or sensitive to handling. Assign data backup, equipment readiness and technical restart to the appropriate business or technical contact before the moving window. Do not make a reopening date depend on a service that has not been included and confirmed.

Specialist services by individual quote

Complex furnitureBunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly
Heavy itemsPianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables
Art and collectionsFine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification
Hanging and installationPictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately
Business equipmentOffice furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route

Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

For artwork, provide the dimensions, photographs, declared value and any handling or packing instructions from its owner. For a piano, safe, wardrobe or gym machine, include its make or model and the smallest openings along the route. These details support a method and price review; they do not establish that every item can pass through the existing entrance or that one crew will perform every specialist task.

04 /

Fit the contents through the building without altering it

Measure the whole route, not just the front door. Include the usable opening with the door in position, vestibule depth, turns, landings, stair width and the destination room. Send photographs showing the largest item beside a known measurement, and describe any parts that can be removed under the agreed work scope. A street-facing entrance and a rear entrance can lead to very different carrying plans.

Newburgh's historic-overlay rules govern specified work on designated properties, including exterior changes and moving a designated structure. They do not establish a general household-furniture permit. If an item would require removing or changing exterior trim, a railing, a door opening or another protected feature, stop and have the owner determine the required Building Department and Architectural Review Commission approvals. Some listed in-kind repairs are exempt from a certificate, but that is not permission for an improvised alteration by the moving crew.

If the item will not fit, the customer and move coordinator should decide before dispatch whether an agreed disassembly method will solve the problem. Otherwise choose another accepted destination, a separately confirmed storage arrangement or a revised item list. Confirm the additional work and charges, the person authorized to approve them and the deadline for that decision. Resume the original delivery only after the dimensions, method and receiving access are confirmed. Do not promise a hoist, structural alteration or specialist operation that has not been accepted in writing.

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Ask management to specify the service entrance, elevator booking, permitted hours, floor or wall protection and any COI wording. Send the requirements as issued rather than describing the building as simply “insured” or “move-in approved.” A COI, an elevator booking and permission to use public curb address different parts of the job. Record the accepted carrying window and the person who can authorize a change if access is delayed.

Arrange a loading place that lasts long enough

A paid parking session is not a reserved moving bay. For a metered stop, Newburgh's loading provision in §288-29(D) allows commercial vehicles to load or unload merchandise for no more than 30 minutes. The clause is worded for merchandise; have Parking Enforcement confirm whether the proposed household-goods loading qualifies before relying on it. Arrange a different approved loading plan if the work will take longer; extending an app session does not itself extend that allowance.

Send the exact address, side of the street, proposed arrival window and vehicle dimensions to the Parking Enforcement Division at 845-569-7525. Ask how the proposed stop can be authorized and whether temporary restrictions or another location are necessary. Confirm who obtains any required authorization before the moving date is fixed. A general moving-truck reservation procedure or a standard permit fee has not been confirmed here.

Section 288-21.2 distinguishes active loading from parking a commercial vehicle. Its active-loading exception does not create an overnight holding place for a loaded truck. The same article contains a commercial-delivery exception to its double-parking rule; that exception should not be treated as a preapproved plan for an obstructed or unsafe stop. The driver still needs a workable approach and carrying route, and the other applicable restrictions remain relevant.

Photograph the signs and marked spaces at the proposed loading point. Include the distance to the entrance and every change of level along the carrying path. Tell the move coordinator about a driveway, bus stop, reserved space or narrow turning point before choosing the vehicle. A neighbor's promise to leave a space empty does not establish permission to reserve public curb.

Near Newburgh Free Academy, §288-33 expressly exempts vehicles providing services or deliveries to residents from that section's parking prohibition. It also preserves alternate-side and other parking restrictions. Do not generalize the school-area exception into an exemption from street cleaning.

Check the truck approach as well as the stop

Newburgh's truck-route provisions apply to trucks over five tons gross weight. The local pickup or delivery exception calls for the most direct route between the premises and the nearest truck route. It does not make every street an unrestricted through route. Give the driver the exact entrance, vehicle dimensions and proposed loading point so the approach can be reviewed before dispatch; do not select a passenger-car shortcut as the truck plan.

The same article specifically prohibits vehicles on Carter Street between Dubois Street and City Terrace, with stated emergency-response and City-duty exceptions. Do not extend the ordinary truck-delivery exception to that separate prohibition. A road drawn on a map does not by itself establish that a moving truck may use it.

If the proposed approach or stop cannot be used, the coordinator and driver need an accepted alternative before the vehicle is sent. That may require a different lawful approach, loading point or arrival window. Confirm any longer carry, waiting or additional equipment in the written scope rather than assuming that changing the route has no effect on the work.

Decide who packs and what delivery includes

Mark the inventory by responsibility: packed by you, packed by us, or requiring a specialist review. Tell us about fragile sets, artwork, mirrors and furniture with removable parts. Keep the photographs and dimensions attached to the relevant item so the preparation decision applies to the correct piece.

Labor, materials and optional work

Item or taskHow it is charged
Basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyPart of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee
Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tapeNo separate charge for these basic protection materials
Boxes supplied for your moveCharged separately
PackingCharged for working time; boxes are separate
Unwrapping furniturePart of delivery
Unpacking the contents of boxesOptional work, charged for working time
Packaging and waste removalCharged separately
Complex furniture and other specialist workIndividually quoted after review

Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

If packing must happen before move day, confirm access for that visit and which belongings you still need afterward. Keep medication, identification, keys, essential chargers and documents you need during the move with you. Mark the items that must remain at the old address and the boxes needed first at the new one.

At delivery, distinguish placing furniture, unwrapping it, reassembling agreed items, unpacking box contents and removing packaging. They are separate tasks even when you want them completed on the same visit. Give each room a clear name and identify who can answer placement questions. If you need the home usable immediately, include those priorities in the estimate rather than leaving them to the last part of the carrying window.

Understand the estimate before fixing the day

Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.

Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

For a local Newburgh move, send the inventory and both carrying routes before comparing estimates. The amount of packing, stairs, distance from truck to entrance, shared facilities and readiness of the receiving property can change the labor needed. Ask the written estimate to identify the hourly basis, any minimum, the planned work and separately charged materials or services. No standard household price can be established from a bedroom count alone.

A move between Newburgh and another New York address is ordinarily intrastate when the shipment stays within New York. Moving across a state line involves different rules and documents; distance alone does not decide that distinction. The New York State moving guidance explains the Order for Service, inventory and copies to keep. Check the actual carrier and understand the delivery and payment terms before signing. A general price description on this page is not a binding estimate for an individual move.

For an interstate shipment, the FMCSA explanation of written estimates distinguishes binding and nonbinding estimates. Have the inventory, packing responsibilities, access conditions and delivery arrangements recorded. If those change, obtain the appropriate written revision before the affected work begins. A delivery-payment limit on a nonbinding estimate is not a cap on the final total owed.

If you are comparing two proposals, line up the same inventory and tasks first. Check the packing, boxes, basic furniture work, specialist items, storage stages, delivery window and removal charges. A shorter list of included work can produce a lower estimate without meeting the same moving need.

Confirm pickup, delivery and protection

Before pickup, agree who will be present to identify the shipment and approve the planned work. Keep the inventory and moving documents available. Point out anything that has changed since the review, including added boxes, unfinished packing, a different entrance or an unavailable elevator. Resolve the effect on scope and charges before that work starts.

Direct and consolidated long-distance moving

Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.

Give the receiving contact the agreed delivery window, building instructions and room plan. If keys, a closing, a contractor or building management controls access, confirm the handover before the truck is committed to that arrival. If the receiving address is not ready, arrange an accepted delivery change or storage stage with its availability, charges and later access in writing. Do not treat the truck or a public parking lot as an assumed storage service.

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

A building COI does not replace your choice of shipment protection. Ask how the selected terms apply to high-value belongings and owner-packed items, and keep the documents describing the selection and claims procedure. Report discrepancies or concerns promptly through the contact and process stated in those documents; do not rely on a general promise of “full insurance.”

Use the address and the date to choose the curb

Street-cleaning restrictions can change which side of the street is usable during a move. The City's parking guidance gives the main pattern: Section One uses odd-numbered sides on Monday and even-numbered sides on Tuesday, while Section Two uses odd-numbered sides on Wednesday and even-numbered sides on Thursday, generally from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Several streets have their own exceptions.

Assign the actual block before using that pattern. The detailed boundary in §288-36.1 follows a stepped line through Broadway, West Street, South Street, Robinson Avenue/Route 9W, Washington Place and Washington Street. The City's shorter north/south-of-Broadway description is not enough for every edge block. William, South William, Liberty and Mill Streets, the specified part of Ann Street, and parts of Dubois Street have separate provisions.

Broadway also needs an address-specific check for an early start: the City's summary describes an overnight restriction differently from the code's side-and-day schedule. Give Parking Enforcement the exact block, side, date and hour rather than choosing whichever wording permits the stop. Confirm the agreed loading point before dispatch.

A snow emergency introduces a separate plan. The City's snow guidance prohibits parking on designated emergency routes and sets a 6 p.m. changeover for alternate-side parking on other streets. The page also describes automatic activation on affected snow-route portions once snow and ice accumulate to at least 2½ inches. For the move date, check the City's announcement or call its English/Spanish hotline at 845-569-7398. A listed municipal lot is not automatically a place to stage a moving truck.

If an emergency, closure or occupied bay defeats the loading plan, stop before starting an improvised carry. The customer, move coordinator and driver need to agree on an authorized alternative: another suitable stop, a revised arrival time or a separately confirmed holding arrangement. Confirm availability, any additional carrying, vehicle, waiting or storage charges, and who may approve them before committing. Resume when the legal stop, safe carrying route and receiving access are all confirmed.

10 /

Separate the move from furniture disposal

Choose what will travel before the inventory is priced. Municipal bulk pickup is a separate arrangement; putting an unwanted sofa beside the truck does not add disposal to a moving order.

For an ordinary collection, the City's bulk-pickup page describes Wednesday service, subject to the holiday schedule, and a Tuesday 3 p.m. booking cutoff. Call 845-565-1082 or 845-565-3297. It requires prepayment, normally in person at 88 Pierces Road by cash or money order; mailed payment must include a phone number and pickup is scheduled after receipt. The page lists mattresses and box springs in its small-item category. Confirm the accepted items, preparation and total charge when booking.

The separate no-cost 2026 program covers June 24, September 30 and December 16. Residents must book by 3 p.m. on the preceding Friday, with no more than five items per household on each collection date; a household in a multi-unit building can identify its unit. Set items out no earlier than the night before the scheduled collection. Furniture, washers, dryers and tires are included in the announcement; building materials, other car parts and hazardous items are excluded. Extra items are left for the resident to remove.

For a move that cannot wait for a program date, arrange the ordinary collection or another accepted disposal option in advance. Confirm who owns the items and has authorized their removal. Keep the collection confirmation, payment requirement and receiving deadline separate from the moving estimate. If disposal is not accepted before the move, agree where the retained furniture will go and what additional transport or holding would cost; do not assume a public curb can serve as storage.

11 /

Resolve a failed plan before dispatch

The following are planning examples, not accounts of completed customer jobs. They show what to settle when the original method no longer works.

If this changesDecision needed before dispatchWhen the move can proceed
A Broadway loading point conflicts with the applicable cleaning restrictionThe customer, coordinator and driver agree on another authorized stop or time after the exact block, side and hour are confirmed with Parking Enforcement. Identify any additional carry or waiting and approve its cost. The lawful stop, truck approach, carrying route and building window are confirmed together.
A sofa will not turn through the measured landingThe customer and coordinator review an agreed disassembly method or choose another accepted destination. Confirm the method, resources, property permission and additional charges; do not improvise removal of a protected exterior feature. The revised dimensions and method are accepted and the receiving route is available.
The new property cannot receive the shipment at the agreed timeThe authorized customer and coordinator agree on a revised arrival or separately accepted storage stage. Confirm capacity, handling, access, charges and who will receive the later delivery. The revised receiving appointment or storage arrangement is accepted, with a usable route and contact at the next handover.

Raise a known problem while the coordinator can still change the plan, before dispatch. If a new obstacle appears after arrival, pause the affected work and make the same decisions before committing to an alternative. The driver should not have to infer who may authorize an extra stage or assume that an unconfirmed resource is available.

Keep the last accepted plan together with the estimate and building instructions. A useful update names the changed item or condition, the chosen alternative, the person approving it, the cost effect and the conditions for resuming. That gives the people at pickup and delivery the same instructions.

Send the details for your Newburgh estimate

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Start with these details:

  • Both complete addresses and the entrances to use, with City or Town identified where it affects the local arrangements.
  • Preferred pickup and delivery dates, any fixed building window and the person receiving the shipment.
  • The furniture and box inventory, photographs of large or fragile items and dimensions for difficult pieces.
  • Who packs, which furniture needs disassembly, and whether you need unpacking or packaging removal.
  • The truck-to-room route at both ends, including loading distance, steps, turns, elevators and building instructions.
  • Any uncertain curb permission, receiving delay, storage need or item that may not fit.

For a business, add the operating hours to protect and the contacts responsible for shutdown and technical restart. For a staged move, describe what goes on each visit and what must remain accessible. Send the uncertainties as questions rather than leaving them out of the inventory.

Our planning team can then recommend the next review and prepare the estimate around the work you need. Confirm the date, agreed scope, access arrangements, charges and protection in the moving documents before treating the plan as booked.

Questions before you move

What moving services can I request in Newburgh?

You can request local or interstate household moving, business moving, full or selected-item packing, storage and agreed delivery stages. Send the inventory, both addresses and dates so the team can review the actual work and availability. A listed service does not by itself reserve an appointment.

Is a Newburgh mailing address enough to choose the City's moving rules?

No. The City of Newburgh and Town of Newburgh are separate municipalities. Give the complete street address and identify the responsible municipality before applying the City parking or bulk-collection rules described here. A ZIP code alone does not settle that question.

Is the estimated number of hours the most I will pay for a local move?

No. Most local moves are hourly, and estimated or minimum hours are not a fixed total or completion promise. Traffic, access, unfinished packing or a changed inventory can affect working time. Read the hourly basis, any minimum and separate charges in the written terms for your move.

Will a long-distance flat rate increase just because the journey takes longer?

For the same agreed shipment and service scope, the agreed long-distance flat rate stays the same even if the journey or delivery takes longer. Added items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements must be reviewed and agreed separately in writing. Keep those conditions in the estimate and moving documents.

Are boxes and basic furniture assembly included?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Can you pack before move day and unpack at delivery?

Yes. Preparation before the carrying day and full or selected-item packing can be arranged within the agreed access and schedule. Packing is charged for working time; company-supplied boxes are separate. Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

Can you coordinate the COI and a building's elevator window?

Yes. Send the issued COI requirements, building contact, elevator instructions and permitted moving hours. The plan should identify who submits each request and which charges apply. Required access and times still need confirmation; submitting a COI does not itself reserve an elevator or authorize street parking.

Can you move a piano, safe, artwork or furniture that needs specialist disassembly?

These items can be reviewed for an individual quote. Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, handling instructions and the whole route through both properties. The method and required work must be accepted first. Crane work is outside the company's service scope; do not assume a window hoist or alteration is available.

Can an office move include reconnecting our IT systems?

IT disconnection and transport are available, but reconnection and system startup should be arranged with your IT team. Identify the equipment, backup and shutdown responsibilities, building window and person accepting delivery. Agree phased or after-hours work separately around the actual access and business schedule.

Does direct long-distance service use the same crew at both ends?

Yes. The direct service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. Suitable small shipments can also be reviewed for consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. Confirm which arrangement applies; the person preparing the estimate is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Is my shipment automatically fully insured?

Review and select the applicable valuation or protection terms before moving. Valuation is the mover's liability, not a separate insurance policy. For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless Released Value is selected through the required written waiver. Record the chosen terms, cost, limits and claims process in your documents; a building COI does not make that selection.

Do I need an in-person visit before I can request an estimate?

No. Start with the addresses, dates and inventory you have. A clear item list may suit a straightforward job; full packing, specialist pieces or restricted access can call for video or in-person review. The planning team recommends the review based on the actual work, rather than a mandatory floor-area cutoff.

Can the moving truck use any street for a local delivery?

No. For trucks over five tons gross weight, the City code's local-delivery exception calls for the most direct route between the premises and the nearest truck route. Other restrictions still matter. Carter Street between Dubois Street and City Terrace has a separate vehicle prohibition whose stated exceptions do not include an ordinary household delivery. Have the driver review the actual approach.

Which Broadway cleaning schedule should I use for an early move?

Resolve the exact block, side, date and hour with Parking Enforcement at 845-569-7525 before dispatch. The City's summary describes both sides Monday–Friday, 3–6 a.m.; the code gives north-side Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday and south-side Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Sunday restrictions at those hours. Do not choose the more permissive version while that discrepancy is unresolved.

Can I reserve a moving space by paying a parking meter?

No. Meter payment does not reserve the curb. The code limits its commercial-merchandise loading allowance in a metered zone to 30 minutes. Confirm whether your household-goods loading qualifies and arrange an authorized alternative for a longer move before dispatch.

Can the truck stay on the street overnight while it is loaded?

Do not use the active-loading exception as an overnight plan. Section 288-21.2 separates active loading from commercial-vehicle parking. Arrange a suitable, accepted holding location before the move; its vehicle eligibility, availability and charges need separate confirmation.

Which side of the street should the truck use on a cleaning day?

For the ordinary pattern, Section One uses odd sides on Monday and even sides on Tuesday; Section Two uses odd sides on Wednesday and even sides on Thursday, generally 8 a.m.–3 p.m. First place the exact block in the code's detailed section boundary, then check its street-specific exceptions and signs.

Does the Newburgh Free Academy parking restriction prevent a residential delivery?

The school-area section expressly exempts service or delivery vehicles serving residents. Other restrictions, including alternate-side parking, remain in force. Use the exception for its stated purpose rather than treating it as an all-purpose loading authorization.

Can a snow emergency change the move even if parking was arranged?

Yes. Emergency routes and alternate-side rules can displace the planned stop. Check the City's current notice or hotline, then confirm an authorized alternative with the driver and move coordinator. Do not begin unloading until that stop and the carrying route are safe and available.

Is Newburgh bulk furniture pickup free?

Only the separately announced 2026 program dates have the no-cost terms: June 24, September 30 and December 16, with advance booking and a five-item household limit. The ordinary Wednesday bulk service has separate booking and payment requirements. Do not treat every Wednesday as a free collection.

When do I need to book a free-program collection?

Call Sanitation at 845-565-1082 or DPW at 845-565-3297 by 3 p.m. on the Friday before the program date. Schedule no more than five items for your household, identify your unit if applicable and set the accepted items out no earlier than the night before collection.

Can I put a mattress out with the moving-day trash?

Arrange it as a bulk item first. The City's ordinary bulk page lists mattresses and box springs in its small-item category, with booking and prepayment requirements. Confirm preparation and the accepted pickup date; the free-program announcement does not separately specify mattress handling.

Does living in the historic district mean I need permission to move my furniture?

The cited historic-overlay rules concern designated-property work and structural changes, not an ordinary furniture permit. If getting an item through the entrance would change protected exterior features, have the owner resolve the required approvals before accepting that method. The crew should not improvise an alteration.

What happens if the agreed loading space is unavailable?

Pause and use the accepted fallback: another authorized suitable stop, a revised arrival time or a separately confirmed holding arrangement. The customer, driver and move coordinator must agree on availability, additional costs and approval before changing the work. Resume after the stop, carrying route and receiving access are confirmed.
