Movers in Easton, PA

Plan your Easton move from the first packed shelf to the room where everything belongs. Sterling Oakbridge reviews the inventory, local permit steps, carrying route and delivery together.

Choose the work for your Easton move

Sterling Oakbridge provides moving, packing and storage for Easton households and businesses. Choose help for the whole home or a defined part of the job: packing fragile cupboards, moving a furnished apartment, preparing furniture or bridging a gap between addresses. Start with what you are keeping and where it needs to end up.

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

The City’s Comprehensive Plan 2035 distinguishes Downtown, College Hill, West Ward and South Side. Its description of hills, river crossings and different street patterns is useful background for planning; it does not tell us how a particular property receives a moving crew. Send the complete address and actual approach rather than relying on the neighborhood name or an Easton postal address.

Review pickup and delivery together. A nearby home with stairs and a long carry may require more handling than a farther address with straightforward access. Include basements, attics, garages and storage lockers in the inventory so they can be planned with the main rooms.

02 /

Follow every part of the carrying route

Show the route from the proposed truck position to the final room at each address: curb, sidewalk, private path, steps, entrance, turns, stairs, corridors and every elevator. Photograph the transitions between them. A wide front door does not resolve a tight vestibule or the turn at the top of a stair.

For an older house, include ceiling height over stairs, handrails, narrow landings and the route for basement contents. A separate exterior basement door may provide another option, but its descending stair and bottom landing still need review. The property owner must authorize any preparation or use of an alternative entrance.

For an apartment, establish which entrance the building accepts, who opens it and how equipment reaches the elevator. Include steps before the lift, a second lift or transfer corridor, cabin and door dimensions, shared use and the final apartment turn. Review the protected size of large furniture against the entire route.

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Send the actual building instructions: working hours, elevator booking, floor and wall protection, COI recipient and wording, submission deadline, security and any union or labor-access requirements. Name the person who accepts each arrangement. A requested elevator slot and a confirmed booking are different states.

Arrange Easton’s moving permit before the move

Easton has a goods-moving permit separate from the question of where a truck may stand. The City’s moving-of-goods chapter requires authorization through the Director of Finance or a designee for the household and business relocations it covers. The City’s Moving Permit form describes moves into Easton, within Easton and out of Easton.

Prepare the applicant and goods-owner details, pickup and delivery addresses, occupants requested by the form, mover and description of the goods. The published instructions say to complete and print the form, then deliver it to the Finance Office on the second floor of City Hall, 123 S. Third Street. The current fee schedule lists $25 for the household or commercial goods moving permit.

Use the Finance Department’s current forms and contact page for submission questions; its published main number is 610-250-6600. Agree who will submit the application and provide the issued permit before dispatch. The City does not state a processing time on this form; allow time for submission and issuance before the move.

This procedure concerns the City of Easton. Establish the actual municipality for an Easton mailing address before applying a City rule. A permit for the goods movement does not by itself reserve a meter, authorize a street obstruction or approve a building’s receiving arrangements.

04 /

Confirm the truck position as a separate step

Identify a lawful working position for the actual vehicle and equipment, with enough room for the carrying route and any loading equipment. Send the side of the street, nearest cross streets, date and proposed hours. Keep the public sidewalk, entrances, driveways and emergency access usable; private cones do not establish an exclusive right to a space.

The Easton Parking Department handles parking enforcement and permits. Its published numbers are 610-250-6643 and 610-250-6642, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Describe the proposed loading position and ask which parking arrangements or other City approvals apply. Name who obtains the answer, any accepted conditions and the confirmation needed before dispatch.

The City’s downtown residential parking permits concern resident vehicle parking in specified districts. They do not establish a moving-truck reservation. A normal passenger-car parking option or garage listing also does not demonstrate that the selected truck fits or can unload there.

If the preferred position cannot be used, review another lawful position and its longer carry, an accepted different time or a revised vehicle and handling plan. Obtain the building’s agreement for any changed entrance. Agree the extra work and costs before relying on the alternative; do not improvise a blocked sidewalk or an unapproved road closure.

Pack around the last night and the first morning

Full packing prepares the agreed home contents as one job. Partial packing leaves you selected rooms or categories; fragile-only packing concentrates on items needing individual protection. Show open cupboards, shelves and closets so the packing scope includes what is inside them.

Labor, materials and optional work

Item or taskHow it is charged
Basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyPart of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee
Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tapeNo separate charge for these basic protection materials
Boxes supplied for your moveCharged separately
PackingCharged for working time; boxes are separate
Unwrapping furniturePart of delivery
Unpacking the contents of boxesOptional work, charged for working time
Packaging and waste removalCharged separately
Complex furniture and other specialist workIndividually quoted after review

Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

Keep medicines, documents, chargers, a change of clothes and first-night supplies in a separate group you can reach. Identify the dishes, bedding and appliances still needed on the final evening. Decide when those contents become available and whether they travel with you or with the shipment.

For example, books and spare linens can be packed before the last evening while breakfast items stay available. Keep completed cartons inside the agreed room, leaving stairs, shared landings and escape routes clear. Early packing helps only when the building permits the preparation and there is still a workable loading and receiving sequence.

Label cartons for destination rooms and mark essential groups clearly. At delivery, distinguish placement of closed boxes from optional unpacking of their contents, organizing and removal of packaging. Tell us which materials need to stay for storage or later sorting.

Resolve difficult pieces before carrying begins

Send the dimensions, construction and condition of large pieces together with photographs of the route. A wardrobe that separates into sections differs from a bonded frame. Include repaired joints, fragile finishes, storage-bed mechanisms, missing hardware and components that cannot safely be removed.

Compare the protected item with each doorway and turning space, including the stair landing or final room entrance. Protection changes the outside dimensions. If a piece cannot use the accepted route, review a different authorized route or handling method before moving day rather than expecting the crew to solve an unseen obstruction.

Specialist services by individual quote

What needs attentionWork available for review
Complex furnitureBunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly
Heavy itemsPianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables
Art and collectionsFine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification
Hanging and installationPictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately
Business equipmentOffice furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route

Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

Agree disassembly, protection and reassembly in the written scope. Keep removed fittings identified with their item. Artwork, pianos and other specialist belongings need their own review of size, weight, value and handling. A general service listing does not establish that an unusual piece can use a particular staircase, lift or specialist method.

Give a business move a release and receiving order

For an office, shop or other business, identify what must keep working and which contents can be released first. Name an authorized contact at pickup and another at receiving. Include stock, records, equipment, security, public access and any landlord restrictions.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Mark equipment and furniture for their destination room or work group. Review which pieces need assembly and which systems need separate technical work. IT transport and disconnection can be reviewed; your IT team should own reconnection, testing and startup. Physical delivery does not show that a network or business process is operational.

If a shop must keep an entrance open, agree the usable loading route and sequence with the business and property contacts. A building approval does not replace an applicable City permit, and a City permit does not override private access conditions.

08 /

Compare the same inventory, access and written terms

An estimate becomes useful when it describes the retained belongings, both addresses, access, packing, extra stops, storage and receiving conditions. Bedroom count and mileage alone leave out much of the work. Compare quotations for the same scope and identify who can approve additions.

Household goods moving within Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission explains the intrastate tariff basis: moves of 40 miles or less use hourly charges; moves over 40 miles use weight and distance. These rules concern household-goods carriage within Pennsylvania. A City boundary crossing does not itself make the shipment interstate, and a distance over 40 miles does not turn an intrastate move into an automatic flat rate.

Under 52 Pa. Code §31.122, the carrier supplies the written estimate at least 48 hours before the move unless the shipper agrees in writing to shorter notice. The estimate identifies the applicable work and charges. An urgent request still needs the applicable written arrangements.

Hours, materials and changes

For an hourly job, estimated or minimum hours are planning information, not a maximum final bill or a promise to finish within that period. Shared lifts, incomplete packing, changed inventory or a longer carry can change the working time. Company boxes, optional box unpacking and removal are distinct charges; ordinary blanket, wrap and tape materials follow the company terms stated above.

An interstate move from Easton

For long-distance work quoted at a flat rate, the price stays the same for the same agreed shipment and services. Added contents, packing, stops or changed access need a reviewed written scope and price. Establish the route’s actual terms before applying a generic price description.

09 /

Connect pickup with a delivery that can happen

Work backward from receiving. Confirm keys, the permitted entrance, the accepted unloading period and the room plan. Allow for travel and extra stops between addresses. Loading and unloading windows need a feasible sequence; they do not need identical clock times.

Direct and consolidated long-distance moving

Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.

When the dates do not connect, review storage as a separate stage. Agree what enters storage, what remains with you, who releases the goods, notice for redelivery and the accepted destination access. A storage contact is useful only after the actual space and later delivery arrangement are confirmed.

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

Use the protection documents for the actual route. Interstate valuation terms do not automatically describe a shipment wholly within Pennsylvania. Keep the inventory, selected protection and any high-value declarations with the move documents.

10 /

Choose dates with a decision point and a fallback

Offer more than one workable date when possible. Compare lease handover, closing and key availability, building hours, school commitments and the time needed for packing. A summer or month-end date can be practical when its approvals are secured; a midmonth date still needs the same access checks. Neither date alone proves a lower price or an available crew.

For a short building window, ask whether materials and permitted preparation can happen earlier. Carrying must remain within the accepted period. Keep both properties’ contacts available through their respective stages, including the person who will open the destination after the origin contact leaves.

Before dispatch, set a decision deadline for unresolved keys, elevator acceptance or truck access. Name the customer representative authorized to approve a change and the planning contact who will coordinate it. A delay triggers review of a confirmed later slot, another accepted route, a separate stage or genuinely available storage.

Record additional charges, who accepts them, where people will stay and which essentials remain with them. Resume delivery only when the agreed access and receiving conditions are confirmed. During bad weather, review the actual route and clear safe private approaches with the responsible property contact; a forecast does not establish a municipal exception.

11 /

Start with the addresses and the result you need

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Send pickup and delivery addresses, preferred dates, retained contents and requested help. Include photos or video of open storage, large furniture and the whole carrying route, plus the building instructions. Flag anything awaiting a permit, keys or a confirmed receiving window.

You can start before every detail is settled. The planning review identifies what still changes the work and who needs to confirm it. Keep the final inventory, service responsibilities, access approvals and any later changes together in the written plan.

Questions before you move

What moving help can I arrange in Easton?

Household and business moving, full or selected packing, furniture preparation, storage and optional box unpacking can be combined around the work you need. Describe the contents and both addresses first. Dates, route, specialist items and building acceptance are confirmed for the actual job; the service list does not establish an office at your address or a guaranteed slot.

Does Easton require a moving permit?

Yes. The City publishes a goods-moving permit for moves into, within and out of Easton. Use the Finance procedure for the relocation covered by the moving-of-goods chapter; the current City fee schedule lists $25. Prepare both addresses and the goods-owner information, submit the printed City form and obtain the issued permit before the move. This is separate from parking and building permission.

Does a moving permit reserve the curb for our truck?

No. The goods-moving permit does not establish an exclusive loading space. Give the Parking Department the proposed position, date, hours and vehicle needs, then obtain the applicable direction or approvals. Confirm a lawful position and workable route before dispatch; a resident permit or private cones do not settle the question.

Does an Easton mailing address mean the City permit applies?

No. Use the property’s actual municipality to identify the local authority. An Easton mailing address alone is not proof of City jurisdiction. Once the municipality is established, apply its rules and keep the building’s private access conditions separate.

What should I show for a basement or upstairs room?

Show every stair flight, landing, doorway and turn from that room to the proposed vehicle position. Include the bottom landing of an exterior basement stair, ceiling clearances and any shared entrance. Review the protected furniture dimensions against the complete route and have the property owner authorize any alternative approach.

Can an elevator building still require stairs or a long carry?

Yes. Steps before the lift, a second elevator, a transfer corridor or a distant approved entrance can all affect the work. Send the complete route and actual elevator instructions, including dimensions, shared use, booking, protection and who confirms access. The floor number by itself does not describe the handling.

How are moves wholly within Pennsylvania priced?

The PUC describes hourly tariff charges for household-goods moves of 40 miles or less and weight-and-distance charges above 40 miles. Compare the actual inventory, access and services in the written estimate. A longer trip within Pennsylvania is still intrastate; it does not automatically use an interstate flat rate.

When should I receive a Pennsylvania intrastate estimate?

The carrier must supply it at least 48 hours before the move unless you agree in writing to shorter notice under §31.122. Start early enough to review the work, rates and protection selection. A last-minute move needs the appropriate written shorter-notice agreement rather than an assumed exemption.

Can you pack only the fragile items?

Yes. Select fragile-only packing or particular rooms and leave the rest to you. Identify the contents, what remains in use and when it can be handed over. Packing uses working time and company-supplied boxes are charged separately; keep final-night essentials outside cartons you seal early.

Are basic furniture assembly and packing materials included?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

What happens if the destination keys are delayed?

Use the decision deadline and authorized contacts agreed before dispatch. Review a confirmed later receiving slot, a separate stage or available storage, with the added cost approved before relying on it. Keep essentials with you, decide where people will stay and resume delivery only after the accepted entrance and receiving access are available.

Does business moving include restarting the IT system?

IT transport and disconnection can be reviewed as moving work. Your IT team should arrange reconnection, testing and startup. Give the move planner the release order, destination labels, security conditions and receiving contact; unloading equipment does not by itself restore the business system.

What should I send first for an estimate?

Send both full addresses, date options, retained inventory and the help you want. Add route photos, large-item details and building instructions, including permits or access still awaiting acceptance. The planning team can then choose the appropriate item-list, video or in-person review and identify the remaining decisions.
