Get help with the parts you want to hand over
Sterling Oakbridge provides household and business moving, packing and storage for Norristown. You can hand over a furnished apartment, a retained house inventory or a selected group of belongings. Add the packing and receiving help that will make the result useful: protected fragile contents, furniture ready for transport, boxes in the right rooms or agreed optional unpacking.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Begin with the two actual properties. Norristown’s municipal government and the surrounding townships have different responsibilities; a Norristown mailing address does not settle which one governs a property. Identify the municipality, unit, intended working entrance and receiving contact before borrowing a parking rule from a neighboring address.
The work inside the home matters as much as the drive. Include retained attic and basement contents, lockers, outdoor pieces and an extra storage stop. Mark what you are disposing of before the inventory review so an estimate describes what will actually travel.
02 /
Describe the unit behind the street address
The municipal Comprehensive Plan describes downtown buildings with dwellings over shops, close-in row houses and twins, varied West End housing and North End houses and apartments. Those broad settings help identify questions; they do not describe the stairs, parking rights or condition of a particular home. The plan also cautions that neighborhood boundaries are not clearly defined.
An apartment above a downtown shop
Locate the actual residential entrance and the first landing. A customer-facing shop door may lead to a different part of the building. Show the route from the proposed vehicle position to the apartment and establish which doors can be used during loading. Keep any business or shared entrance usable under the accepted plan.
A row house or twin closer to the center
Include the front steps, vestibule and the turn into the hall. If retained contents are downstairs or upstairs, show the full connecting stair. A rear entrance may change the carry, but access through an alley still needs its own review. Compare protected furniture dimensions with the entire route.
A West End house with several retained storage areas
Walk through the basement, upper rooms and any separate garage as well as the main living rooms. Distinguish the contents to be moved from fixtures and things leaving through a different disposal arrangement. The useful inventory follows the household, rather than assuming every property in the area has the same layout.
A North End or Norris Hills arrival
Show where the truck can work, the private approach and the final receiving rooms. A visible driveway does not establish its usable width, turning space, surface capacity or the owner’s permission for the selected vehicle. Agree those details before treating it as the loading position.

03 /
Review the whole carrying route at both ends
Send a continuous account of the route: proposed truck position, curb, sidewalk, private path, steps, doorway, vestibule, turns, stairs, corridors, lifts and final room. Photographs of the transitions are more useful than a close-up of a wide doorway alone. Include low ceilings, rails and the place where a long piece must turn.
In an elevator building, identify steps before the lift, any second elevator or transfer corridor, the cabin and door dimensions and the apartment approach. Confirm whether the lift is shared, which entrance is accepted and who opens it. A floor number leaves these handling questions unanswered.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
Send the actual instructions for booking, working hours, protection, COI wording and recipient, submission deadline, security and any union or labor-access requirement. Name the building contact who accepts each arrangement. Deposits or building charges need their own explanation and payment responsibility in the plan.
For a short slot, discuss permitted preparation and material delivery before the carrying period. Keep the actual carrying within the accepted hours and leave shared passages open. A request for an early visit is still awaiting acceptance until the responsible property contact confirms it.
04 /
Arrange the space for the actual vehicle
For metered loading space, Norristown’s meter-bag procedure directs contact with the Ticket Department 24 hours in advance. The 2026 fee schedule lists $15 per bag per day. Describe the exact spaces, date, hours and vehicle needs, and obtain the applicable issuance and placement instructions. The contact lead time is not a promise that a requested space will be available.
On an unmetered block, establish the appropriate arrangement for that position with the municipality. Its residential permit program concerns eligible residents in affected areas. A resident permit does not reserve a truck-length section of curb. Read the signs on the actual side of the street, including the maintenance-route hours.
The commercial-vehicle parking provision includes an exception for vehicles actively making local deliveries or rendering service. It also contains its own vehicle definitions and posted-sign condition. Active work is different from leaving a truck stored on the street. The same parking article prohibits parking in the public and private alleys it defines; a convenient rear entrance does not establish a lawful truck position.
Use the selected vehicle’s dimensions and weight when reviewing the approach. The traffic chapter distinguishes passenger-only segments from streets with weight restrictions. Its weight-limit exception concerns deliveries to or pickups from premises along the specified streets; it does not establish a general through route. The driver’s route review must account for actual signs, turns and current conditions.
The municipal forms directory has separate procedures for a storage container, a street closure and an oversized load. Select the procedure for the proposed use and obtain the relevant approval before relying on it. Keep private building acceptance and public street arrangements in the same practical sequence.

05 /
Keep the final evening and receiving priorities usable
Full packing can prepare the retained household contents; partial packing selects rooms or groups; fragile-only preparation concentrates on agreed breakables. Show the contents of cupboards, shelves and closets during the estimate. A furniture list alone leaves much of this work out.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Choose the bedding, simple meal set, work clothes and household items needed until the last night. Give them an agreed packing time. Keep medicine, identification, keys, valuables and travel documents under your own control, together with receiving instructions you can reach.
Prepare a first-opening group for the destination and label cartons by destination, room and useful contents. For example, a household splitting a smaller apartment and storage can separate its everyday kitchen group from books that will remain stored. Confirm the storage intake and later release arrangements rather than assuming a label creates a booking.
At delivery, distinguish placing closed cartons from optional box unpacking and directed final placement. Choose suitable cleared surfaces for the groups you want opened. Gathering paper indoors and taking it away are different tasks; describe any removal you want included in the estimate.

06 /
Plan protection and difficult turns before moving day
Give the planning team the dimensions, construction and condition of large pieces. Photograph repaired joints, glass, storage mechanisms and removable parts, along with the route. A bed designed to separate is a different job from an integral bonded frame.
Review the protected outside size against doorways, stairs, landings and the last turn into the receiving room. If the route will not work, discuss an authorized alternative or a different handling method before dispatch. A crew cannot rely on an unseen rear entrance or a property alteration that has not been accepted.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Agree which pieces are dismantled and reassembled and keep fittings identified with the item. Pianos, artwork and other unusual belongings need review of their own construction, value, weight and route. A service category does not by itself confirm that a particular piece fits a staircase or that a specialist operation is available on the requested date.
07 /
Separate the move from the cleanout
Decide which belongings are retained before packing begins. For eligible residential collection, Norristown’s current bulk rules allow up to two items on each scheduled trash pickup day. The April 2026 rules put bulk items on the regular residential route. Appliances, construction debris and hazardous materials are excluded; covered electronics also have separate restrictions.
Use the actual collection arrangement before the move. An extensive house or basement cleanout can require separately priced hauling. Show unwanted items, materials and their carrying route when requesting removal; a municipal resident service does not create a private contractor appointment. Keep retained items away from the outgoing group so useful belongings are not carried away or packed by mistake.
08 /
Give each business group a release and receiving order
For an office, shop or other business, choose what can stop first and what must remain usable. Name the people authorized to release contents, approve changes and receive each group. Include stock, records, furniture, security and any public entrance that must stay accessible.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
Label for the receiving room or work group and agree the furniture assembly order. IT transport and disconnection can be reviewed; the business’s technical team should arrange reconnection, testing and startup. Physical unloading does not establish that a system or business process is ready to use.
09 /
Compare written estimates for the same work
Compare the same retained contents, pickup and delivery access, packing, extra stops, storage and receiving work. Identify who may approve additions. Distance, bedroom count and floor area help describe a job but do not establish its complete handling time or carton requirement.
A household move within Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission describes hourly tariff charges at 40 miles or less and weight-and-distance charges over 40 miles for intrastate household-goods moves. A trip crossing a municipal boundary can remain wholly within Pennsylvania. Select the applicable route terms before comparing it with an interstate quotation.
52 Pa. Code §31.122 requires the written estimate at least 48 hours before the move unless the shipper agrees in writing to shorter notice. An urgent request needs the appropriate written arrangement and time to review the actual scope.
Working time, materials and changes
On hourly work, estimated or minimum hours plan the job; they do not cap the final bill. Additional contents, incomplete preparation, a longer carry or changed lift access can change the time. Cartons, selected unpacking and other additional work must be identified under their applicable terms.
A long-distance flat-rate plan
The flat-rate price stays the same for the same agreed shipment and service scope. Added packing, inventory, stops or changed access need written review and agreement. Ordinary travel taking longer does not itself change the price for an unchanged flat-rate scope.

Connect Norristown with the actual receiving address
Plan a feasible sequence from loading through travel, extra stops and unloading. Confirm keys, the accepted destination entrance, receiving hours and the room plan. Pickup and delivery windows can have different clock times; the complete sequence must work.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
For a move between Norristown and Philadelphia, keep each municipality’s parking arrangements with its own address. A Norristown meter bag does not reserve a Philadelphia space. Review travel between the addresses, the receiving contact and building permissions before choosing the date. Continue with Pennsylvania moving services for the wider state context.
If storage bridges the dates, confirm the actual space, inventory entering it, intake time, release contact, notice and later delivery arrangements. Choose what stays with the household during the gap and make the receiving plan before the shipment is ready for release.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
Use the protection documents for the actual route. Interstate valuation and a shipment wholly within Pennsylvania can have different governing terms. Keep selected protection, high-value declarations and inventory with the move records.
11 /
Set the decision deadline before an access problem becomes a delay
Before dispatch, name the customer representative who can approve a change and the planning contact who coordinates it. Set a decision deadline for unresolved keys, elevator acceptance or truck space while a real alternative remains available. For example, a delayed key handover can trigger review before loading commits the household to an unavailable destination.
Choose a confirmed later slot, another accepted entrance and vehicle plan, a separate stage or actually available storage. Identify who accepts the extra work and cost, where people will stay and which essentials travel with them. A storage telephone number or a preferred new date is still only a possibility until the resource and access are accepted.
Resume delivery when the agreed entrance, recipient and unloading conditions are confirmed. If the working position changes, include the new carry and building permission in that decision. Keep the relevant people informed at both addresses.
Offer more than one workable date if your commitments allow it. Compare lease or closing dates, school routines, preparation time and access. For rain, ice or snow, review the actual private approach and the responsible person’s preparation. A forecast does not create a parking exception, and a midmonth date does not guarantee a lower quote or available crew.

Send the addresses, contents and result you need
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Send both complete addresses, date options, retained inventory and requested help. Add photographs or video of open storage, large pieces and the complete carrying route, together with building instructions. Identify permits, keys, truck space or a receiving window that still need confirmation.
The review can start while those details are being resolved. Its purpose is to turn the household’s intended result into a workable inventory, division of responsibility, sequence and written estimate. Keep subsequent changes and the person accepting them with that plan.

Questions before you move
What moving help can I arrange in Norristown?
Household or business moving, full or selected packing, furniture preparation, storage and optional box unpacking can be planned together. Start with the retained contents, two addresses and the result you need at receiving. The actual route, dates, specialist items and access are reviewed before confirming the job.
How do I arrange a metered loading space?
Contact the Ticket Department 24 hours in advance under the meter-bag procedure. Identify the actual spaces, date, hours and vehicle needs, then obtain issuance and placement instructions. The 2026 schedule lists $15 per bag per day. This lead time does not guarantee availability, and an unmetered position needs its own applicable arrangement.
Will a resident parking permit reserve space for our moving truck?
No. The resident program concerns eligible residents in affected areas. Arrange the actual truck position separately, with enough room for the vehicle and its work. Check the street’s posted controls and maintenance times and confirm the loading and building arrangements before dispatch.
Does the commercial-vehicle rule prevent active moving work?
The parking provision expressly includes an exception for commercial vehicles actively making local deliveries or rendering service. That does not approve truck storage, a blocked alley or disregard of other controls. Review the actual vehicle, street signs and accepted working position; the provision also defines the vehicles and its posted-sign condition.
Does a Norristown mailing address establish the local authority?
No. Establish the property’s actual municipality before applying a local parking or collection procedure. Keep the exact unit and property contact with the address. A nearby Norristown address and one in a surrounding township can have different public procedures as well as different private access conditions.
What should I show for a row house or an upstairs apartment?
Show every transition from the truck position to the final room: front or approved rear steps, doorway, vestibule, landings, turns, stairs and clearances. Include basement contents if they travel. Review the protected item against the whole route and obtain the property owner’s acceptance for an alternative entrance.
Can an elevator move still include stairs or shared access?
Yes. There can be steps before the lift, a second elevator, transfer corridors or a long carry from the accepted entrance. Send dimensions, shared-use and booking instructions, protection and COI requirements, and the person who confirms access. A requested slot becomes usable only after the building accepts it.
How are household moves wholly within Pennsylvania priced?
The PUC describes hourly tariff charges for moves of 40 miles or less and weight-and-distance charges above 40 miles. Compare the same inventory, access and services in the applicable written estimate. A longer move within Pennsylvania does not automatically become an interstate flat-rate job.
When should the Pennsylvania intrastate written estimate arrive?
At least 48 hours before the move, unless the shipper agrees in writing to shorter notice under §31.122. Allow time to review the contents, charges, access and protection. A last-minute request needs that appropriate written agreement and an executable plan.
Can you pack only the kitchen or fragile belongings?
Yes. Select rooms or groups for partial or fragile-only packing and identify what you will prepare yourself. Show the cupboard contents and anything still needed on the final night. Packing labor uses working time and company cartons are separate; agree when each selected group becomes available.
How are basic assembly and protection materials charged?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack and remove used packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
Can an unwanted sofa go out with the regular collection?
Eligible residential bulk collection currently allows up to two items on the scheduled trash day under Norristown’s April 2026 rules. Confirm the property’s collection arrangement and set-out instructions before relying on it. Appliances, construction debris and hazardous materials are excluded; larger cleanouts or private removal need a separate accepted route and price.
What happens if destination keys or the accepted truck position fail?
Use the decision deadline and authorized contacts established before dispatch. Review a confirmed later slot, another accepted route or vehicle plan, a separate stage or available storage, and agree the added cost. Keep essentials with the household, decide where people stay and resume delivery when receiving access is confirmed.
Does an office move include restarting our IT system?
Transport and disconnection can be reviewed as moving work. Your IT team should own reconnection, testing and startup. Give the planner the release sequence, destination labels, security conditions and receiving contact; unloading equipment alone does not establish that the business system works.
What should I send first for an estimate?
Send both full addresses, date options, retained contents and the help you want. Include the carrying route, large-item details and building instructions, and identify outstanding keys or access decisions. The planning team can choose an item-list, video or in-person review and identify what still changes the scope.
