Ohio / City relocation guide

A practical guide to moving to Orient, Ohio

Confirm the property behind the Orient name, then compare usable rooms, daily journeys and the systems you will maintain. Join possession, accounts and school or care arrangements before arrival.

Confirm what the Orient name means for this home

Start with the full street address, unit and parcel reference. This guide concerns Orient Census designated place, GEOID 3958800, in Scioto Township, Pickaway County. The current Census CDP feature identifies a statistical place, rather than a present incorporated municipality. An Orient postal label or ZIP does not extend that boundary to every home using the name.

Use the Pickaway County Auditor portal to match a listing to its parcel, tax information and mapping records. Verify the jurisdiction shown for that property before using township or county contacts. Keep the confirmed result on a property sheet with schools, water and wastewater, energy providers, access and actual recurring costs. The map below gives geographic orientation; it does not establish any parcel’s school assignment, flood zone or utility eligibility.

Compare a normal week before comparing adjectives

Turn your reason for moving into the journeys and rooms you will use. For a job change, include both the early trip and the return after a late shift. For more living space, compare useful rooms and storage with the exterior maintenance they bring. For proximity to family, include regular visits, care arrangements and where guests can stand lawfully.

Visit a candidate home at relevant times, including after dark and after rain when practical. Look at noise, lighting, driveway entry and the route for groceries, laundry and waste. Someone with limited stair tolerance may value a usable bedroom and bathroom on the entry level more than an extra upstairs room. Keep the household’s actual routine beside the listing details; a general description of the area will not answer those questions.

04 /

Inspect the rooms, records and full household cost

Check room dimensions against the furniture and activities that matter: beds, a quiet desk, table seating, storage and everyday circulation. Inspect thresholds and stair turns as well as floor area. Review roof drainage, basement moisture, heating equipment and exterior surfaces with an appropriate inspector. A renovated room also needs records for its intended use.

The Auditor portal offers parcel, appraisal, payment and sales information; use it to reconcile the property with the listing and seller’s records. Ask Scioto Township Zoning about a proposed addition, accessory use or uncertain approval within its jurisdiction. The township page supplies a contact and links forms and resolutions; confirm the current requirement for your proposal directly.

Budget beyond purchase price or rent using the actual taxes, insurance quote, energy bills, water or private-system costs, waste service, travel and maintenance. Request recent bills and service histories for that house. Mark estimates clearly and allow for work found by inspection. Another home’s monthly usage or a general postal-area statistic does not determine what this property will cost to run.

05 /

Put possession and responsibilities in writing

For a rental, obtain the landlord’s contact, lease, key handoff and maintenance arrangements. List who pays each account, who manages exterior upkeep and whether parking or shared space is assigned. Ask about entry restrictions, pets, additional occupants and the intended use of any basement or outbuilding before relying on them.

Confirm any outstanding work or approvals with the responsible owner and department. Keep the answer for the actual unit, rather than inferring clearance from an advertisement or a viewing appointment. Align the receiving date with possession and required service connections, and keep an alternate first-night plan if those remain unresolved. A delivery booking does not settle a landlord, building or occupancy question.

06 /

Test the trip to the destination you actually need

Time the door-to-door journey at the hours you expect to travel, including the driveway exit and parking at the far end. For a Columbus-area job, use the exact workplace rather than treating the city name as one destination. Repeat the return journey when a shift ends later than normal. Keep a fallback for an unavailable vehicle or a changed schedule.

ODOT’s OHGO provides traffic, construction and weather information for Ohio roads. Consult current notices before a viewing or time-sensitive trip, then check local access and signs on the route. A map distance does not provide a guaranteed commute time, and passenger-car directions do not establish clearance for a moving truck.

If transit or assisted transport is part of your plan, confirm the service that reaches your pickup and destination. Include the walk or boarding arrangement, booking requirements and return trip. Choose the home against that real itinerary rather than assuming a county transport listing provides a convenient fixed route at every Orient address.

07 /

Ask PICCA about the exact pickup and return

PICCA Transit describes demand-response door-to-door service within Pickaway County and gives 740-474-8835 for scheduling. Its page encourages advance booking because availability is limited, says to call at least one hour before pickup and allows demand-response reservations up to four weeks ahead. A voicemail message is not itself a reservation; the scheduler must respond.

Give the exact address, destination, date, appointment time, return need and any mobility requirements. Ask about the operating window, fare and whether a trip outside the county can be arranged. Confirm the booking before depending on it for work or a medical appointment.

The published Flex Bus is a Circleville loop and the Rickenbacker Shuttle connects Circleville and Rickenbacker. Those descriptions do not establish an Orient stop or a through journey to a Columbus workplace. Use the current details for the specific service, and keep another option for trips it cannot accommodate.

08 /

Arrange enrollment for the address and start date

Census school-district geometry places the mapped Orient CDP inside Teays Valley Local School District. Confirm the specific home, student’s grade and current school assignment with the district; the CDP outline is not an individual attendance decision. A wider Orient mailing address needs its own district check.

The district’s 2026 enrollment notice directs families to its enrollment information and gives the enrollment office at TVHS South Campus, 385 Viking Way, Ashville, with 740-983-5051 for questions. For a move during the school year, contact that office about the current process, documents and earliest workable start. Its earlier first-day registration target does not answer a midyear transfer.

Ask which residency evidence fits your living arrangement and how records, health requirements, custody documents or existing education plans should be transferred. Keep these documents accessible during the move. Confirm transportation, pickup permissions and the first-day handoff separately; a submitted registration is not confirmation of a bus assignment or a childcare place.

09 /

Make school and care arrangements usable from day one

For childcare or after-school care, contact the actual provider about a place, age range, hours and pickup arrangements. Check the route from home or school and what happens if a commute or delivery runs late. A program on a website does not establish current capacity.

For healthcare, choose providers using your insurance, treatment needs and available appointments. Arrange records and prescription transfers directly, and keep medication and critical contacts with you. Separate the first week’s care schedule from unloading: school, treatment and family responsibilities need a responsible adult even if delivery takes longer than expected.

10 /

Identify the provider before choosing account dates

Use the seller’s or landlord’s actual account and meter information to identify the electric provider. Ohio Power Company’s service-request page offers start, stop and transfer pathways, but its presence online does not show that it serves a particular Orient address. Confirm territory, account requirements and the effective service date with the provider that does.

Identify the home’s heating fuel as well. Where Columbia Gas of Ohio serves the property, its start, stop or move page asks for the address and account details and states at least one business day’s notice before the requested date. Schedule with sufficient margin and confirm any access appointment. The page also says Customer Choice participation ends when the old service is canceled, so ask your supplier about the new address separately.

For propane, oil or another system, review ownership, supplier arrangements and inspection history with the appropriate owner. Check internet availability for the exact unit, installation timing and the service required for work or study. Put confirmed start dates and appointments on one household calendar, with a first-week connectivity fallback if needed.

11 /

Establish the actual drinking-water system

Ask whether the home uses a public connection or a private water system; obtain the account information or system records that answer that question. For a public connection, confirm the responsible provider, billing owner, transfer requirements and service date. Do not infer public service from the mailing address.

Pickaway County Public Health’s private-water page explains that construction, alteration or sealing requires a permit application and site plan. It links contractor, well-log and maintenance resources. For an existing private system, request the permit and installation history, inspection or testing records and the equipment-maintenance instructions. Confirm an appropriate assessment with the Health Department and qualified professionals before closing.

Know what depends on electricity and how the household will respond to a service interruption. Keep the system’s records with the home documents. A link to a well-log search or fact sheet is a starting tool; it is not proof of this property’s water quality, capacity or condition.

12 /

Review sewer or household sewage before closing

Determine whether the property has a sewer connection or a household sewage treatment system and obtain the relevant bills, permits and maintenance records. Do not assume that a nearby home has the same arrangement. Include recurring service and any inspection findings in your comparison budget.

Pickaway County Public Health’s sewage program provides a buying-home pathway for inspection or permit-history questions, as well as installation, repair and replacement routes. Ask about the actual property before closing, especially where records are missing or a change is proposed. Environmental Health gives 740-477-9667 ext. 370 for help.

Locate private-system components with the owner and qualified provider. Keep the planned moving vehicle and stored loads away from areas that cannot support them; a large open yard is not automatically a truck standing place. An inspection request, permit history and present operating condition answer different questions, so keep each result distinct.

13 /

Set up collection and a route for the empty cartons

Confirm the household waste provider, account holder, collection day, container arrangements and bulky-item process for the exact property. Ask the landlord which costs belong to the tenant and which are included. Do not leave unwanted furniture for a collection that has not been arranged.

RPHF’s accepted-material instructions include cardboard and call for clean, dry materials, broken-down boxes and no plastic bags or items left on the ground. Separate nonmatching packing materials and check their disposal route. A general recycling symbol does not establish that a drop-off accepts every material.

The District’s Pickaway locations page lists receiving sites in several communities, including Circleville and Ashville. Choose an actual listed destination, check the current service information and arrange a trip that fits your routine. The list is not a curb-collection schedule or confirmation of an Orient site. Keep cartons dry and out of the household walking route until the confirmed disposal stage.

14 /

Check the household space and the delivery approach

At a viewing, check the driveway’s usable length, exit sightline, surface and ordinary household parking. Confirm any assigned or shared spaces with the owner. Inspect lighting and access after dark, and ask about snow or exterior-maintenance responsibility. A broad frontage does not establish a right to use the adjoining land.

For delivery, add the proposed vehicle’s dimensions, overhead clearance and the route to the door. Obtain permission for private space and identify the road owner for a public-space question. Use the Township office or the County directory as a starting point, then ask about the actual location and plan. Confirm a fallback standing place and keep emergency and pedestrian access clear.

15 /

Walk the route the household will use every day

Walk from the standing place through the door to the rooms, storage and exterior areas you will use. Check thresholds, rails, changes of level, narrow turns and lighting. Think about groceries, laundry, waste and maintenance, not only where a sofa will sit. For someone with limited mobility, test the route to the bathroom and sleeping room directly.

For moving, show the largest pieces and the narrowest route early. Include basement and garage contents, locked gates and outbuilding doors. Agree room names and receiving positions before unloading, keeping immediate-use rooms accessible. Let the planning team review a different method or destination if the preferred route is unsuitable.

16 /

Read the drainage and approach after rain

Inspect gutters, downspouts, grading, basement history and the approach to the door with suitable professional help. Ask the owner about past water entry, repairs and exterior upkeep, and reconcile that with records and inspection findings. Wet leaves and a soft gravel edge can affect ordinary access as well as a moving vehicle.

Use FEMA’s Flood Map Service Center for the address’s official flood information and discuss insurance with the appropriate provider. The CDP outline in this guide is not a flood map. Keep a record of the actual map result and effective information rather than treating proximity to a waterway or an area-wide notice as the property’s risk determination.

Before a weather-sensitive delivery, check OHGO conditions, clear the agreed route and assign someone to report a change in access. Arrange winter and exterior-maintenance responsibilities with the owner or service provider. A seasonal checklist does not predict conditions on your chosen date.

17 /

Build a local routine that extends beyond the house

Pickaway County Library’s locations page lists the Main Library in Circleville and Floyd E. Younkin Branch at 51 Long Street in Ashville. Choose a location against your actual journeys and check current hours. The bookmobile has its own event-calendar schedule; a county service does not establish a stop at every address.

The library-card instructions allow Ohio residents to register with photo ID and proof of current address; a parent or guardian registers children under 18. An online temporary number provides digital access, while the physical card is obtained at a location. Keep useful address evidence accessible during settling in.

Identify groceries, pharmacy, exercise and outdoor activities using the places you will actually visit. Confirm hours, access and any booking directly. At home, review the maintenance and storage your chosen yard or garden brings. Useful space supports a routine only when its care, drainage and daily routes fit the household.

18 /

Connect possession, first night and first week

Before arrival, keep the property sheet, keys, receiving contact, account confirmations and school or care documents with you. Prepare bedding, medication, toiletries, chargers and basic food separately. Confirm that the home is available and that the systems needed for the first night are ready.

On delivery day, open the agreed route and show the receiving rooms. Keep essentials and later-unpacking cartons apart. In the first week, check account names, forwarding details, school handoffs and the normal commute. Record an unresolved question with the responsible owner and next action instead of allowing it to become an assumption about the whole community.

For inventory, preparation, carrying and transport, return to our Orient moving services page. Keep changes to dates, contents or access in the same agreed brief.

Questions before you arrive

Is the Orient map a municipal boundary?

It is the Census boundary of Orient CDP, GEOID 3958800. Confirm the jurisdiction and services of an actual address separately; the Orient postal name covers a different question.

Which district should I ask about school enrollment?

The mapped CDP falls inside Teays Valley Local School District in Census geography. Contact the enrollment office with the full address, grade and intended start date for the actual assignment and process.

Does PICCA provide a fixed Orient bus route?

The published service page describes county demand response, a Circleville Flex loop and a Circleville–Rickenbacker shuttle. Confirm the actual pickup, destination, operating window and return directly; those descriptions do not establish an Orient fixed stop.

How do I check water and sewage arrangements?

Obtain the property’s connection or system records from the owner. Ask the responsible public provider or County Public Health about the actual account, private-system history, inspection and any proposed work.

Where can I take empty cartons?

Review RPHF material preparation and the current locations list. Keep eligible cardboard clean, dry and broken down; confirm receiving conditions before travel.

Does this map settle flood or truck access questions?

No. It is a geographic outline. Use the actual address for official flood information, property inspections, service eligibility and a vehicle-access review.
