Start with the vehicle position: a permitted private driveway or an appropriate street location. Establish the owner’s or manager’s conditions, vehicle dimensions, time window and distance to the entrance. Keep the sidewalk and neighboring entrances usable. An empty curb or a resident’s usual parking space does not establish permission to reserve it for a moving vehicle.
If the operation needs a street, lane or sidewalk closure, use Suffolk’s right-of-way closure application. The form calls for the traffic-control plan and application at least 14 business days before work, with a separate seven-calendar-day notification of exact dates after approval. The form also sets restrictions on closure days and hours. Resolve the applicable category with Public Works; the closure procedure does not by itself establish that every parked moving truck needs a closure.
A portable container is another arrangement. The City’s temporary-structure rules require the applicable prior zoning permit and an approved private placement, with residential setback and front-yard conditions. They prohibit placement in the street, sidewalk, easement or right-of-way. Obtain the actual approval and property permission before scheduling delivery.
For a managed building, ask about a certificate of insurance, lift reservations, protection and any building-required labor arrangement. Send a union-labor condition or another restriction to the moving coordinator before booking so the actual work can be reviewed. If a charge or deposit applies, obtain its written basis, responsible payer, due date and refund conditions. Name the person who can release the entrance or lift on the day.
Inside the property, follow the complete path through the selected entrance, stairs or lift, landings, turns and final room. Give the moving coordinator the floor, access contacts, opening dimensions, lift arrangements and any restricted hours. At a rural home, include the drive surface, branches, gates and a place to turn or leave the vehicle. Let the actual vehicle and receiving conditions determine the plan.
