Moving help for a Reading household or business
Sterling Oakbridge provides moving, packing and storage for Reading households and businesses. Arrange a complete move or select the work you need: packing a kitchen, preparing large furniture, moving an upstairs apartment or holding goods between addresses. Describe what should be ready at the end of the job, including any optional unpacking.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
A row home, an apartment within an older house and a business with its own receiving entrance can need quite different plans. The Centre Park neighborhood association describes row houses, twins and larger houses, including homes with several stories and basements. That variety is a reason to include every floor and storage area in the inventory, rather than use bedroom count as the entire description.
Use the complete pickup and delivery addresses, including the actual municipality. A Reading mailing address is not enough to assign City of Reading parking procedures. At each property, identify the entrance that may be used and the room where each large piece belongs.

Trace the route through the stoop, entrance and stairs
Show one connected route from the proposed vehicle position to the furthest room: road edge, sidewalk, private steps, porch, outer door, vestibule, inner door, stair flights, landings and final turn. Photographs of separate doorways help most when a short video also connects them. Include both sides of a tight turn and the ceiling above it.
A raised front porch may have room for a person while leaving little room to turn a protected sofa. A wide outer entrance can lead to a narrower inner door. Review the actual item’s protected dimensions against the whole route before deciding whether normal carrying and basic disassembly are sufficient.
Include attic and basement contents when you send the inventory. Show the headroom and bottom landing of a basement stair, and any rear entrance proposed as an alternative. A shared yard, alley or neighbor’s gate is usable only with the necessary permission and a workable approach; its presence in a photograph does not make it part of the agreed route.
For apartments, include any steps before the elevator, a transfer between lifts, the cabin and door sizes, shared use, corridors and the apartment entrance. Name the person who confirms elevator access and who will open the accepted entrance. A high floor with a working lift and a lower floor reached by several stairs represent different handling.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
Send management’s actual requirements, including the COI recipient and wording, booking deadline, protection, security, working hours and any labor-access conditions. Keep the confirmation with the plan so the crew is working from an accepted arrangement.

Arrange Reading curb space before dispatch
Reading Parking Authority offers temporary no-parking signs. Its current ordering instructions require at least 48 hours; RPA posts and removes the signs. Choose the specific-property or half/whole-block order and attach the completed block diagram. RPA contacts the purchaser about questions and payment; an incomplete application is not a reserved working space.
The daily-parking code states a 24-hour minimum and requires Monday requests by the preceding Thursday. Plan around RPA’s published 48-hour ordering requirement and the Monday deadline. For four or more signs, RPA may also require a Police special-event permit. Daily permits cover legal on-street spaces; they do not authorize prohibited parking.
Assign the purchaser, identify the actual truck and loading needs, and obtain the issued arrangement before dispatch. Confirm the exact side of the street, address, cross streets, dates and hours. Private cones or an application receipt do not resolve a vehicle occupying the intended position when the truck arrives.
Keep vehicle position separate from building access. Agree enough usable space for the selected vehicle and its loading equipment, and a carrying route that keeps entrances, driveways, the public sidewalk and emergency access usable. If loading would obstruct traffic or require a street closure, have the responsible authority address that operation separately.

04 /
Give the reservation a usable footprint
The official block-diagram form asks for both end cross streets, the requested spaces, dates and start/end times. It uses 20 feet per parking space. For a specific address, mark the address location and requested spaces on the diagram. The form’s space unit is an ordering convention, not proof that a particular truck and its equipment fit.
Review the footprint with the move planner before ordering: vehicle length, rear working area, any slope and the connection to the accepted entrance. Avoid a diagram that reserves space on the wrong side or leaves the truck beyond a barrier. A longer block reservation still needs a usable carrying path.
The residential-zone permit program concerns eligible resident vehicles and excludes commercial vehicles. Use the temporary daily-permit process for the applicable moving-space request. Fees and purchaser classifications need RPA confirmation; do not assume a resident’s personal-use rate applies to a company’s purchase.
If the intended curb cannot be secured, choose between another lawful position with a reviewed carry, a confirmed different time or a revised vehicle and handling plan. Have the property contact accept any different entrance. Record the work and price consequences before relying on the alternative.

Release rooms in an order that still lets you live there
Full packing prepares the agreed contents throughout the home. Partial packing covers selected rooms or categories, while fragile-only packing concentrates on the pieces you want individually protected. Show open cupboards, closets and storage areas so the scope includes what is inside them.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Separate the final-night group before early packing: medicines, identification, chargers, a change of clothes, bedding and breakfast items you still need. Decide when those contents become available. Carry personal essentials with you instead of placing them in the first sealed cartons.
For example, a household can release spare linens and books first while keeping one kitchen cupboard in use until the last evening. Completed cartons should stay in the agreed room, leaving the stair, porch, shared entrance and escape route clear. The useful result is a staged handover of contents, not a wall of boxes at the front door.
Label cartons for receiving rooms and identify the first groups you want accessible. At delivery, furniture unwrapping, opening and unpacking the contents of boxes, organizing, and removing used packaging are different tasks. Include the optional work you need and retain any materials wanted for storage.

06 /
Prepare the item before attempting the narrow turn
Send photographs, dimensions, construction and condition of pieces that might determine the method: a long sofa, large wardrobe, piano, heavy safe or furniture with repaired joints. Include the stairs and turns at both addresses. Explain which parts genuinely detach, and flag missing hardware or a mechanism that no longer works normally.
Empty the furniture before it is prepared for moving. Identify removable shelves, glass and detachable components so protection and component labeling can be planned. Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use moving labor time; complex furniture and specialist handling receive an individual quote.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Choose the handling method before the affected work starts. If a protected item will not pass, review a suitable disassembly, an authorized alternative route or a separately agreed specialist method. Do not rely on removing a railing, changing a building opening or using a neighbor’s property without the responsible owner’s approval. Crane work is outside the company’s service scope.

07 /
Keep business release separate from system startup
For an office, shop or other business, define the work groups that can move first and those that must stay available until the agreed cutoff. Identify stock, records, equipment, furniture and items outside the shipment. Assign an authorized release contact and a receiving contact with access to the destination.
Label furniture and cartons by destination room or team. Confirm the accepted loading entrance, security procedure, landlord conditions and receiving period. Where customers or staff must continue using an entrance, agree the route and sequence with the business and property contacts before moving begins.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
Your IT team should own reconnection, testing and startup. Physical delivery of computers does not establish that a network or business system works. Give the move planner the sequence for equipment release and the separate technical appointments so unpacking does not block the next trade.
08 /
Use the price basis for the actual route
Compare estimates for the same retained inventory, packing responsibilities, pickup and delivery access, stops, storage and receiving conditions. Include the basement, attic and rooms outside the main living area. A short drive with several stairs and a long carry may involve more handling than mileage alone suggests.
Household-goods moves wholly within Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission describes tariff charges by working time for moves of 40 miles or less, and by weight and mileage for moves over 40 miles. These are Pennsylvania intrastate household-goods terms. Crossing a city boundary does not make the shipment interstate, and a longer trip within Pennsylvania does not automatically become a flat-rate job.
52 Pa. Code §31.122 requires the carrier to supply the written estimate at least 48 hours before the move unless the shipper agrees in writing to a shorter period. Allow time to read the applicable work, charges and protection selection. A last-minute request still needs the appropriate written arrangements.
Working time and separately charged work
Estimated or minimum hours help plan an hourly job; they are not a maximum final charge or a promise that all work will finish in that time. A shared elevator, unfinished packing, added contents or changed carry can alter the work. Boxes, optional box unpacking, specialist work and removal charges should be visible in the written scope.
Interstate moving from Reading
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the same agreed shipment and services retain the same price. Additional belongings, packing, stops or changed access require a reviewed scope and price. Compare the actual written route terms rather than applying an interstate description to a shipment that remains within Pennsylvania.
09 /
Plan from the receiving room back to pickup
Confirm destination keys, the allowed entrance, receiving hours and a room plan before loading begins. Travel, stops and the time needed at each property must fit between the accepted windows. Pickup and delivery do not need identical clock times; they need a feasible sequence.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
For a small shipment with flexibility, compare the agreed consolidated receiving window with your actual key and building availability. For direct service, confirm the dedicated-truck plan and both access arrangements. Neither model removes a building’s booking or a municipal parking requirement.
If the dates do not connect, scope storage as its own stage: which contents enter, what remains with you, who may release the shipment, notice needed for redelivery and who accepts the final destination. Keep documents, medicines and near-term supplies accessible. A proposed storage option becomes useful when the actual space and later delivery arrangement are confirmed.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
Choose the documents for the actual route. Interstate valuation terms do not automatically describe a move wholly within Pennsylvania. Keep the inventory, selected protection and any declared high-value items with the move paperwork.
10 /
Choose a date with a working fallback
Offer a primary date and another workable option where possible. Compare the lease or closing handover, school commitments, access bookings, permitted packing time and receiving availability. A summer date or month-end move can work when those arrangements connect. A midmonth date alone does not establish a lower price or crew availability.
For a short carrying window, arrange any permitted materials delivery and packing earlier, then identify the contents that must wait until the final evening. Confirm who opens the origin and destination if the customer travels between them. Keep the household’s own travel, children and pets out of the working route.
Set a decision deadline before dispatch for unresolved keys, curb space, elevator approval or receiving access. Name the customer representative authorized to approve changes and the planning contact who will coordinate them. If the necessary confirmation is missing at that deadline, review a confirmed later slot, another accepted route, separate stages or genuinely available storage.
Record additional work and costs before choosing the alternative, including where people will stay and which essentials remain with them. Resume delivery only after the agreed entrance and receiving conditions are confirmed. In rain, ice or snow, review the actual approach and arrange safe private access with the responsible property contact; weather does not create a parking exception.

Start with what you know about the move
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Send both full addresses, date options, retained contents and the help you want. Add photos or video of open storage, large items and the connected carrying route. Include building instructions and identify any parking arrangement, keys or receiving window still awaiting confirmation.
You can begin before every detail is resolved. The planning review determines what still changes the job, which survey is appropriate and who needs to confirm access. Keep the final inventory, service responsibilities, accepted arrangements and later changes together in the written plan.

Questions before you move
What moving help can I book in Reading?
Household and business moving, full or selected packing, furniture preparation, storage and optional box unpacking can be combined around the job. Start with the contents, addresses and result you want. The planning team confirms the method, route, dates and building arrangements for that work.
How early should I order temporary no-parking signs?
The RPA ordering page says at least 48 hours. For Monday use, the code also requires the request by the preceding Thursday. Submit the complete diagram, then obtain the issued arrangement for the actual location and hours before dispatch.
Do I put up the temporary signs myself?
No. RPA posts and removes them. The purchaser completes the request and payment process. Keep the authorized location, dates and hours with the move plan; an unfinished order does not establish a reserved working position.
Can I use my residential-zone permit for the moving truck?
No. The residential-zone program excludes commercial vehicles. Use the applicable temporary daily-permit arrangement for the moving space and confirm its purchaser classification with RPA. Private building access remains a separate arrangement.
Does a daily permit allow parking in a prohibited location?
No. Daily permits apply to legal on-street spaces. They do not authorize a prohibited zone or a street closure. Establish a lawful truck position and usable route; if that position fails, use the reviewed alternative and agree the changed work before relying on it.
What should I show for a row-home entrance?
Show the route through the sidewalk, private steps, porch, outer and inner doors, landings and stairs to the final room. Include overhead clearance and both sides of tight turns. Review protected furniture dimensions against the connected route rather than a single doorway.
Can an elevator building still involve stairs?
Yes. Steps before the lift, a transfer corridor, a second lift or a final stair can remain part of the route. Send cabin and door dimensions, shared-use conditions, booking and building instructions. Confirm who accepts the booking and opens the approved entrance.
How is a household-goods move within Pennsylvania priced?
The PUC describes hourly tariff charges at 40 miles or less and weight-and-mileage charges above 40 miles. Compare the same inventory, services and access in the written estimate. A trip over 40 miles that stays within Pennsylvania remains intrastate.
When should I receive a Pennsylvania intrastate estimate?
At least 48 hours before the move, unless you agree in writing to shorter notice under §31.122. The written estimate describes the applicable work and charges. An urgent move needs the appropriate written shorter-notice agreement.
Can you pack only one room or fragile items?
Yes. Partial and fragile-only packing let you choose the contents you hand over. Identify what stays in use and when it becomes available. Packing uses working time, company boxes are separate, and final-night essentials should remain accessible.
Are basic furniture assembly and protection materials included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack cartons and take the packaging away?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What happens if destination keys or access are delayed?
Use the pre-dispatch decision deadline and authorized contacts in the plan. Choose a confirmed later slot, an accepted alternative route, a separate stage or available storage, with the additional work and cost approved. Keep essentials with you and resume delivery after receiving access is confirmed.
Does moving office IT include restarting our systems?
IT transport and disconnection are available; your IT team should handle reconnection, testing and startup. Agree the equipment release and receiving order, security access and technical appointments. Physical delivery is one stage and does not demonstrate that the system is operational.
What can I send if I do not have every measurement?
Send the full addresses, date options, item list and requested help first. Photos or video of storage, furniture and the connected route show what needs further review. The planning team can recommend an item-list, video or in-person survey and identify the remaining decisions.
