Movers in Middletown, NJ
The front door may not be the best way out, and the things leaving the house may not all be going to the same place. Sterling Oakbridge helps plan your Middletown move around the items, the route through each property and the work you want completed.
01 /
Give every item a destination
Start with the belongings: what is going to the new home, what needs storage and what should leave by a separate collection. Include the garage, outdoor furniture, exercise equipment and anything collected from another address. A floor plan alone can miss much of the work.
Send both addresses, preferred dates, an inventory and photographs of the entrances. Tell us which packing and delivery tasks you want handled. If you are still choosing the address, the Middletown relocation guide covers the household arrangements alongside the move.
For a move within the township, the drive can be a small part of the job. Carrying distance, preparation and the receiving rooms still need their own plan.
02 /
Choose help for the stages you need
You may want the crew to pack the whole home, prepare a few fragile items or move cartons you have packed yourself. Include the work after unloading: furniture placement, assembly, box unpacking and packaging removal involve different tasks.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
For a partial household move, mark the items that must remain usable. For a business, identify what has to be working between stages.

Make the estimate describe the actual job
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Show the distance from the proposed vehicle position to the entrance, the usable doorway width and any stairs or awkward turns. Include extra stops, a storage stage and packing responsibilities in the comparison.
Ask how a delayed key handover or changed inventory would affect the plan. Comparing the same work across estimates is more useful than comparing a headline figure that leaves different tasks out.
04 /
Compare entrances before choosing the carrying route
A rear patio opening may help with a large piece, but the full glass frame is wider than the opening available when one panel slides back. Measure the clear passage and show the threshold, terrace, side path and the turn into the receiving room.
Photograph the complete route at both properties. Include door swings, low fittings, stairs and anything that narrows the approach. Agree any door removal or alternative entrance with the property owner before relying on it.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
In an apartment or shared building, identify the approved entrance and the person who can release it on the day.

05 /
Keep the vehicle position and entrances workable
Show the driveway or forecourt from the road, including overhead clearance and space to manoeuvre. Establish who can authorize its use and whether the surface and dimensions suit the planned truck. Keep customer entrances and neighbouring access in the plan for a business move.
Middletown’s garbage collection instructions require four feet of clearance around the municipal cart, including from vehicles. A moving truck placed beside a cart can interfere with collection even when the entrance itself looks clear.
Confirm the actual loading position with the responsible property manager or township office and follow posted restrictions. Station parking arrangements do not establish permission to load a moving truck elsewhere.

06 /
Pack by handling needs and delivery room
Put documents, medication, chargers, keys and first-night essentials aside before packing begins. Label cartons by destination room, and identify anything you will need during a gap between homes.
Use small book cartons for books and suitable protective cartons for glassware. Packing one group of fragile items at a time makes it easier to keep the protection and labelling consistent. Share photographs of collections or unusual pieces before deciding how they should travel.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

07 /
Review the pieces that need a different method
An exercise bike, large wardrobe or wall-mounted screen can need preparation that an ordinary furniture list does not explain. Send the make, model, dimensions and photographs of the complete route. Mark what must be dismantled, disconnected or installed.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Agree who performs any technical work and when it must be complete. Loading should not depend on finding the right specialist after the vehicle arrives.

08 /
Work back from confirmed access
Find the allowed dates and hours at each property, then check whether loading, travel and delivery can happen in sequence. Ask about preparation before a short carrying window, and allow for the person receiving the shipment to be available.
Start the estimate and building requests while you still have date options. A proposed closing time, a submitted application and a released key are different stages. Keep the written confirmations and contact details together.
If timing is tight, identify the missing approval first. A late start does not shorten a building’s notice requirement or make a crew automatically available.
09 /
Decide what happens if the keys are late
Before the last practical decision point, agree who confirms that the new property is ready. If it is not, the fallback might be a permitted later pickup, a confirmed storage stage or a revised delivery date. Set out availability, access, charges and who authorizes the change.
Keep overnight belongings with you and tell us which stored items may need early access. A storage contact alone is not a reservation; confirm the space and the arrangements for getting the shipment in and out.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
10 /
Separate transport from reopening
For an office, shop or workshop, list the furniture, stock, equipment and records by destination. Identify the people responsible for building access, the items being moved and acceptance at the new site. Keep any customer route separate from the carrying area.
Label workstations and agree the order in which they arrive. Confirm the receiving space, preparation and technical appointments before choosing an evening, weekend or phased move. A delivery completed on time does not by itself make the business ready to reopen.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
11 /
Book disposal separately from the move
Decide early which belongings are not travelling. Middletown’s bulk collection page uses a scheduling process and limits the items it accepts. Mattresses and box springs must be completely enclosed in plastic secured with duct tape.
Appliances, electronics and metal items have separate arrangements; cardboard is not bulk waste. Confirm the current route, accepted item and collection before placing anything outside. If removal is part of your moving request, list it explicitly for a separate quote.
Keep the agreed entrance and carrying route free while the move and any collection take place.
12 /
Finish with placement, protection and a clear handover
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
Before unloading, show the crew where the large pieces and labelled cartons belong. Identify any placement that would block a door, appliance or daily route. Have the person receiving the move check the agreed work and record any issue while the details are clear.
Finish by confirming what remains: optional unpacking, packaging removal or a separately arranged technical task. Keep the moving documents and the contact for follow-up together.

Questions before you move
Can you help with a small move within Middletown?
Yes. Send the actual items, both addresses, access photographs and preferred dates. A short journey still needs the carrying and preparation work assessed.
Is a local estimate a fixed final price?
Most local moves use working time. Estimated or minimum hours are not a completion cap; the written terms identify the hourly basis, materials and other work.
Are basic furniture assembly and protective materials included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can the crew use a sliding patio door?
Show the actual clear opening, threshold and complete route to the truck and final room. Review the item dimensions and obtain the property owner’s approval for the chosen entrance or any changes.
What if my receiving address is not ready?
Agree a decision time and a confirmed alternative before loading depends on access. Review storage or a changed delivery stage, charges, who authorizes it and where you will keep overnight essentials.
Can you move an office or exercise equipment?
Commercial moves and heavy or specialist items can be reviewed. Provide the equipment details, access and preparation required; technical work and specialist handling need an agreed scope.
Does unpacking include taking away all the boxes?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
Can unwanted furniture simply be left for township collection?
Check the current bulk booking, eligible items and preparation rules first. Some materials use separate disposal routes, and the move itself does not book a municipal collection.
