Movers in Dexter, NY

The living room may be ready while the garage still holds half the work. Sterling Oakbridge plans your Dexter move around the belongings, access and help needed at both addresses, so the less obvious parts are included before moving day.

01 /

Bring the whole household into the plan

Walk through the rooms, then open the spaces that are easy to forget: the garage, shed, basement and cupboards used for seasonal belongings. List what is moving, what stays and anything going to another person or a different address. Include a storage unit or extra collection stop in the first conversation.

Send both addresses, preferred dates, the inventory and photographs of the access. Explain which tasks you want help with and who will receive the shipment. For the household arrangements alongside the move, use the Dexter relocation guide.

A short local drive does not remove the work of packing, carrying and setting up. The useful starting point is the actual job at each end.

02 /

Choose the work you want completed

You can hand over the packing, ask for help with fragile pieces, or prepare cartons yourself and have the crew handle the move. Describe the work at delivery, too. Putting furniture in place, basic reassembly, emptying cartons and taking away packaging are separate parts of the plan.

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

Moving helpWhat we can includeWhat to send
Local residential movingLoading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyBoth addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property
Interstate movingPickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when neededDestination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment
Commercial movingOffice and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictionsBusiness type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect
Packing and unpackingSelected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpackingWhat you will pack and what you want us to prepare
Storage and staged deliveryStorage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery planExpected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage
Designer and hotel furniture receivingReceiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed planExpected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site

For a smaller move, an item list is more useful than a room count. If the household is moving in stages, mark what must remain available between deliveries.

Compare estimates using the same job

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.

Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

Include the distance from the proposed vehicle position to the entrance, steps or stairs, packing work and extra stops. A garage with an easy outside approach may still contain heavy or awkward pieces that need to be reviewed individually.

Ask how waiting for keys, additional belongings or a changed destination would be handled. Compare the same inventory and services across estimates, with labor, cartons, specialist work and removal charges identified clearly.

04 /

Check the garage route as carefully as the front door

Follow each large item from its current position to the proposed vehicle, then from the receiving entrance to its final room. Show side doors, steps, thresholds and the space needed to turn. A garage opening and a small service door create very different routes.

Photograph the approach and measure the furniture and narrow openings. Leave the door swing visible in the photographs; a passage can look generous until the door is open. If another entrance or temporary door removal might help, agree that with the property owner before depending on it.

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

For an apartment or shared entrance, identify the allowed window and the person who can provide access. Keep neighbours’ doors and the common route usable.

05 /

Review the surface and the space to turn

Show the proposed truck position, overhead clearance and route to the house. For a private driveway or turnout, establish who can authorize its use and whether the surface and dimensions suit the planned vehicle. Include room to manoeuvre without blocking another entrance.

The village’s winter parking notice prohibits parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., November 1 through April 1, on village highways and between the street and sidewalk, whether or not there is snow. That rule does not establish daytime loading permission.

Check the current signs and proposed position with the responsible office or property manager. If a Thursday collection affects the approach, arrange the moving space around the actual waste set-out rather than discovering the conflict on arrival.

Keep fragile items and first-night essentials separate

Set aside medication, documents, chargers, keys and the things needed for the first night. Label cartons by destination room and keep anything required during a gap between homes out of the stored group.

Use small book cartons for books and suitable cartons with individual wrapping and cushioning for dishes. Larger linen cartons suit lighter, bulky contents. Show unusual items early, including anything that needs preparation beyond ordinary packing.

07 /

Resolve the belongings that have more than one owner

When combining households, downsizing or helping a parent move, agree who receives each piece before the packing starts. Mark items promised to relatives and arrange donations or separate removal in advance. A label on the day is much easier to follow when the decision is already settled.

Choose one coordinating contact if several people are involved. Give that person the inventory, key arrangements and room plan at the destination. Keep personal documents and items needed for care or daily routines with the person who uses them.

08 /

Align the move with keys and the receiving property

Direct and consolidated long-distance moving

Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.

Confirm when the property will actually be available, who has the keys and who can receive the delivery. Include any building window and access appointment. If a closing or handover changes, tell the planning team as soon as you know.

Arrange your own travel alongside the shipment. A bus connection, another driver or someone arriving later may affect who can open the property, even when the belongings are ready to go.

09 /

Define the fallback before you need it

If the destination date is uncertain, identify the belongings that can go into storage and what must stay with you. Agree the next contact point for a delivery decision rather than leaving it dependent on an informal update.

Discuss availability, handling, access to stored items and revised charges before relying on another delivery day or storage stage. Keep a first-week bag and essential paperwork outside that group so a delay does not make ordinary tasks harder.

10 /

Plan the order in which a business becomes usable

For an office, shop or other workplace, identify the stock, files, furniture and equipment needed first. Agree a shutdown window, access contact and receiving person who can confirm placement. Label by room or work area so the important pieces reach the right place.

Discuss shared loading space and items requiring specialist handling. Keep technical installation, sensitive records and other work outside the agreed transport scope explicit; a moved item is not necessarily ready to operate.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

11 /

Keep one clear route through the work

Before loading, point out the agreed path and items staying behind. Tell the crew what has changed since the estimate. Arrange children, pets and anyone who needs a quiet space away from the carrying route.

At delivery, room labels or a simple floor plan help avoid moving the same furniture twice. Check the inventory and agreed tasks before the crew leaves, and note any concern promptly using the agreed follow-up process.

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

12 /

Plan the cardboard and unwanted items separately

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

Dexter’s refuse and recycling page requires cardboard to be broken down, tied and kept separate from other trash and recyclables. Leave a usable place for it while unpacking, without narrowing exits or appliance access.

Spring and fall cleanup arrangements have their own limits and exclusions; ordinary Thursday collection does not mean every unwanted item can be taken. Check the next announced date and the specific item, or agree separate removal. Keep that work distinct from unpacking the contents of cartons.

Questions before you move

Can you help with a local or interstate move involving Dexter?

Yes. Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moving, packing and storage. The plan depends on the inventory, requested work and access at both properties.

Should garage and shed contents be included in the estimate?

Yes. List the items you want moved, including seasonal belongings and any extra collection stop. Show large or awkward pieces and the route from their current position.

What access photographs are useful?

Show the proposed vehicle position and the full path to the final room, including steps, door swings, narrow openings and turns. Add furniture and opening measurements where they affect the route.

Does the winter parking notice establish daytime truck permission?

No. It prohibits parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., November 1 through April 1, on village highways and between the street and sidewalk. Check the actual daytime position and current restrictions separately.

Are boxes and basic protection materials charged the same way?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Can you unpack cartons and remove the packaging?

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

What if the receiving property is not ready?

Tell the planning team when the handover changes. Discuss available storage or another delivery arrangement, and agree the timing, handling and revised charges before relying on it.

Will ordinary collection take the unwanted furniture?

Do not assume so. Dexter publishes separate cleanup arrangements with limits and excluded items. Confirm the item and next collection opportunity, or include separately booked removal in the moving plan.
