Moving services in Townsend, Delaware
A Townsend move needs a workable connection between the shipment, the two properties and the day you can receive. Sterling Oakbridge helps you define the moving work, preparation and access so the estimate reflects the job you are arranging.
01 /
Start with the address and the receiving date
Send the full pickup and delivery addresses, unit numbers, likely moving date and a short description of the belongings. Tell us when keys and possession are expected and who can receive. A change of address, closing date or packing request is useful information as soon as you know it.
This page concerns Townsend town in New Castle County, Delaware. A Townsend mailing address can be outside the incorporated limits, and Townsend in Massachusetts is a different place. Use the actual property for the survey and access review.
The existing Dover moving-services page is a regional reference. It does not establish a Townsend office, a fixed drive time or a transfer of Dover's street rules. Discuss the proposed route and availability for your own move.

Choose the work you want help with
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Describe pickup preparation and delivery separately. You may want selected packing, a household shipment, furniture placement and optional unpacking, or only help with particular pieces. Identify a second destination or storage stage before the estimate is prepared.
For a family move, include belongings in the garage, attic, shed and other spaces beyond the main rooms. For downsizing, distinguish what is moving from what is awaiting another arrangement. A room count is a starting point; the actual contents and responsibilities determine the work.
03 /
Keep one useful inventory through the move
List the main furniture, approximate cartons and pieces with unusual dimensions, weight, fragility or existing damage. Add clear photos of a difficult cabinet or equipment. Mark the belongings that stay behind so they cannot be mistaken for the shipment.
Show the path at both ends: the vehicle position, carrying distance, surfaces, doorways, steps, landings and final rooms. A continuous walk-through explains a turn or change of floor better than unrelated close-ups.
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Keep revisions in the same inventory. An added room, extra cartons or changed entrance should reach the planning team before the affected work starts. Confirm which version is the basis of your written estimate.
04 /
Read the estimate against the agreed scope
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Check the labor basis, any minimum, travel terms, cartons, requested packing, specialist preparation and storage or later delivery. Resolve what is included and what is charged separately. A shorter carrying path or finished packing may change the work, but the team must review the actual conditions.
Compare proposals using the same shipment, addresses and responsibilities. An advertised rate alone cannot explain the final job. Keep changes and their pricing consequences in writing, especially when the property or possession date changes.
05 /
Show the whole carrying route
At a Townsend house, review the driveway entrance and proposed standing area before focusing on the front door. A side entrance, rear room or basement may need a different path. Include changes in surface, loose gravel, steps, a narrow gate and places where a long piece must turn.
Inside, show every stair flight and landing between the entrance and destination. Clear the route of loose rugs, stored items and pet equipment before moving day. Tell us about a fragile floor, limited doorway or repair that affects use of the route.
For a shared property, obtain management's instructions and identify the person who can open the receiving space. Review lifts where present, common-area protection and permitted work periods. The same street address can contain several different access arrangements.

06 /
Confirm the standing place before delivery
A private driveway needs the owner's permission and a suitable surface, width and clearance. Show overhead branches, drainage features and the space available to enter, stand and leave. An empty shoulder or spare household parking space is not evidence that a moving truck can use it.
For street standing, contact Town Hall at 302-378-8082 to identify the responsible authority for the proposed location and ask about restrictions or approvals. State-controlled roads and private property require their own owner. This guide does not establish a general moving-truck permit exemption.
Review an authorized alternative position if the preferred one is unavailable, and tell the team how it changes the carry. Keep sidewalks, neighboring drives and emergency access usable; cones or a customer's consent do not authorize public-space use.

07 /
Put the building arrangements in writing
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
Send the property's actual instructions and a contact with authority to resolve access. Record which entrance, elevator if present, loading place and working window have been confirmed. Sending a COI or request is different from having it accepted.
If the carrying window is short, discuss earlier packing or materials preparation where that access is permitted. Review pickup and delivery in sequence with the route between them. Keep a fallback for a shared lift, late key handover or another resident using the entrance.
08 /
Prepare cartons for the contents they carry
Decide which rooms or contents the crew will pack and which you will finish. Use small Book cartons for dense books and appropriate Medium cartons for lighter linen. Close the carton properly, provide cushioning for fragile contents and label the receiving room without covering useful handling information.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Keep medicines, keys, private documents, chargers and first-night supplies with the household. Separate disposal and donation items clearly. Report unfinished packing early so it can be included in the work instead of discovered during loading.
At the receiving home, preserve circulation while unpacking. Do not place loose packaging on the carrying route. Decide whether you want help unpacking carton contents and removing materials before that stage begins.

09 /
Prepare furniture and its receiving room
Choose the receiving room for each large piece and check how doors, drawers and household circulation will work around it. Tell the team about loose joints, delicate finishes and existing damage before handling. Include any item that needs a specific preparation method in the survey.
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.Keep hardware and instructions associated with the correct furniture. Agree who handles technical disconnection, installation or testing. Room placement is a different task from commissioning an appliance or starting a system.
If a room is unavailable at arrival, review a useful temporary position with the receiver. Leave a clear route and access to essential household controls.

Bring specialist items into the first review
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Send photographs, dimensions and model details when available, together with the paths at both addresses. A safe, piano, collection of artwork or unusually complex furniture should not be treated as an ordinary carton count.
Ask how preparation, handling, protection and receiving conditions fit together. Confirm the agreed work and pricing before the date is fixed. An attractive illustration of a finished room is not a record of a completed installation.
11 /
Plan for a gap in possession
If your departure and receiving dates do not align, discuss storage as a separate stage before loading. Give the expected interval, belongings, retrieval needs and eventual destination. Review acceptable contents, access arrangements, charges and later delivery with the planning team.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
A promised closing date is not yet usable access. Identify who can confirm possession, when the decision must be made and which alternate receiving or storage arrangement has actually been reserved. A warehouse contact does not establish available capacity.
Keep the household's overnight essentials outside the shipment if storage might be needed. Ask how a longer interval or changed delivery address would affect the written plan.
12 /
Move the business with a named receiving coordinator
For an office or other business, identify the rooms, workstations, equipment and records moving, the permitted downtime and the order in which the receiving space must work. Assign someone who can make scope and access decisions at each end.
For the premises themselves, use the town's forms and permits guidance to check the actual use and any proposed alterations with the property owner and authority. A moving estimate does not establish permission to operate or carry out building work.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
Your IT team should retain control of backups, private account information, reconnection and startup. Label destination areas clearly and agree when equipment may leave the old location.
13 /
Connect preparation to the working day
Contact us when you have a likely date and a useful description of the move. Name fixed constraints such as lease expiry, closing, school transition, business downtime or building hours. Share date flexibility directly so availability can be discussed.
Arrange the work in an achievable sequence: finish or schedule packing, confirm access, collect the shipment, travel, receive and place belongings. Preparation may need an earlier day or delivery may need its own stage. A short authorized window cannot cover every task simply because the address is close.
Review weather and approach conditions with the property contact before arrival. Ask who clears leaves, snow or a wet entrance and when that preparation will be complete. Keep people and pets outside the active carrying path.
14 /
Decide what happens if the receiving home is not ready
Choose the trigger for a revised plan: keys not released by an agreed checkpoint, essential service unavailable, or the authorized vehicle position blocked. Decide before the current arrangement becomes unusable. The household coordinator, property owner and moving team need the same current information.
Confirm an alternative receiving location or storage resource, including access, availability and the person who accepts the shipment. Review waiting, redirection, storage and later delivery charges through the written terms. Make a separate arrangement for people, pets, medicines and overnight needs.
Resume delivery when the responsible person confirms possession, essential services and the authorized carrying route. Tell everyone the revised timing and scope. A verbal hope that the problem will clear is not a receiving plan.
15 /
Choose liability protection and the final checks
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
Before pickup, review the inventory, access confirmations, receiver and any changes to packing or timing. Keep relevant written documents available to the person coordinating the move. Report high-value belongings and pre-existing condition during planning.
For household services, waste collection and settling-in tasks, use the separate Townsend living guide. When you are ready to request an estimate, send the two addresses, inventory, date range and work you want help with.
16 /
Choosing where to live?
The separate Townsend living guide covers address selection, schools, water and sewer accounts, waste collection, travel and the first weeks after arrival.
