Plan around the Wilmington property and both ends of the move
Start with the exact addresses, unit numbers and possession dates. This page concerns Wilmington, Delaware; a Wilmington mailing address can also describe a property outside City limits. Establish the municipality and property manager before applying the same parking or collection instructions to both homes.
For a rowhouse, show the stoop, usable doorway and turns between floors. For an apartment, explain the loading entrance, elevator arrangements and any shared corridor. Include a basement, garage or separate storage stop in the inventory and access description. A short distance on the map can still involve several separate handling stages.
Use the Wilmington relocation guide to compare residential areas and prepare school, utility and first-week tasks. The sections below explain how the moving scope, materials and property constraints fit into the estimate.

Choose the services your move requires
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Describe what you want to do yourself and what you want included in the moving scope. Identify belongings that will be packed before arrival, rooms that need packing help and anything that must remain accessible through the final night. If the move involves storage or more than one stop, provide the expected sequence and the receiving arrangements for each location.

Coordinate a business move with the receiving building
For an office, shop or other business, plan the work around the inventory and the building's actual operating requirements. Identify workstations, shelving, files, stock and any equipment that needs preparation by its owner or a qualified service provider. Assign someone who can decide where items go and resolve questions at both ends.
Ask the building manager about loading access, elevator reservations, insurance documentation and permitted work hours. A customer entrance may be unsuitable for equipment, while a shared delivery bay may be committed to another occupant. Agree the receiving route before packing departments into the order in which they should arrive. Explain any business interruption constraints without treating them as a confirmed completion guarantee.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Measure stoops, stair turns and managed entrances
Photograph the complete route from the intended truck position to the rooms containing the largest items. Include the rise from the sidewalk, stair treads, landing, railings, door opening and every tight turn. Measure the furniture as well as the route; a broad front window does not establish that the entrance can accommodate the same piece.
Identify who can authorize access and any alteration needed for clearance. In a managed building, confirm loading hours, elevator reservations, protection, keys and required documents. Ask whether a loading dock or approved entrance is available for the proposed vehicle. In a historic property, check exterior-work approval before assuming a railing or door can be changed.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which City or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Confirm the City parking route before reserving a date
Begin with Wilmington 311, or 302-576-2620 from outside City limits, and describe the address, date, hours, truck dimensions and proposed loading position. Ask to confirm the arrangement with Parking Enforcement and, if a lane, sidewalk or street is affected, Public Works. The Parking Authority FAQ says the Authority does not have jurisdiction over on-street spaces; its garages are a separate option for ordinary vehicle parking.
The City transportation application guidance, archived in May 2026, requires at least fourteen days for a street-closing application. The linked form revised March 18, 2026 requires a traffic-control plan and, when parking is removed, suitable temporary signs twenty-four hours before the closure. These are closure conditions. Ask whether that process or a different authorization applies to the specific household move.
Confirm the applicant, any charge, approved space and hours, sign wording and posting responsibility, and the contact to use if a vehicle occupies the space. Keep the issued approval with the plan. A resident permit or payment at a meter does not establish a reserved truck bay, permission to block traffic or permission to use a private loading area.
If the agreed space cannot be used, contact the responsible official and moving contact before relocating the truck. Review any extra carry, timing or storage cost before adopting an alternative. The guide gives the full curb and permission sequence.

Pack for handling, access and the first night
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Allocate a destination room to each carton and keep essential belongings separate. Medicines, keys, documents, chargers and items needed before the main unpacking should travel in a clearly identified personal bag. Do not bury the information needed for receiving the shipment among cartons that will be loaded first.
Use a suitable small carton for dense books and larger cartons for lighter contents such as linens. Tell the planning contact about artwork, delicate surfaces, unusually heavy pieces and anything whose packing requirements are uncertain. Photograph complicated assemblies before disconnecting them, retain their hardware together and establish who will perform any required appliance or equipment preparation.

Make the estimate reflect the actual work
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
The usable carrying route, inventory and agreed services matter more than a neighborhood label. Provide the floor, stair details, distance from the proposed truck position and any building time limit. Explain extra stops, storage, packing and specialist handling at the outset so they can be reviewed as part of the scope.
Keep public permit charges, possible police details and building charges visible as separate planning questions. A municipal fee table is not a moving-company quote. When comparing estimates, compare the inventory, services, timing assumptions and exclusions behind each one. Send material changes before the move rather than expecting the original estimate to cover a different access route or additional belongings automatically.

Agree the sequence and protection arrangements
Dedicated long-distance moving
Our dedicated long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and delivery, with the same moving crew at pickup and drop-off. Confirm the pickup, delivery and any storage stages in your move plan. The survey and move-planning team performs a separate role from the crew carrying out the move.
Confirm the contact at pickup and delivery, the order of any stops and how a change in readiness will be communicated. If keys or an elevator reservation are delayed, tell the planning contact before the truck arrives. Discuss any storage or additional handling that an alternative would require and obtain the revised arrangements before authorizing it.
For an interstate move, review FMCSA consumer guidance alongside the mover's written documents. Keep the inventory, estimate and agreed service details available, and ask about any term you do not understand before signing.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
09 /
Choose compatible dates and prepare the approach
Compare dates that work for possession, building access and the parking process. If a street closure is needed, its approval schedule is part of that decision. Ask about nearby works, events and posted restrictions at the actual block; a neighborhood name does not establish an open loading window.
The City snow FAQ, archived in May 2026, urges owners or tenants to clear a thirty-six-inch sidewalk path within six hours after snowfall stops. It also directs residents not to shovel snow into the street. Assign responsibility for the private stoop and landing as well as the public frontage, and check the whole route again before the crew arrives.
If ice, water, lost keys or an inaccessible entrance prevents unloading, notify the planning contact and property representative promptly. Confirm a usable alternative before proceeding, including any different handling, storage or delivery arrangement. A weather deadline or passable road does not confirm that a particular set of steps is ready.
10 /
Keep decisions and access clear on the day
Walk the route with the receiving contact before unloading begins. Point out the rooms, any item that needs particular handling and anything excluded from the move. Keep children, pets and visitors away from the carrying path. Have keys and entry instructions available without posting private access codes in shared paperwork.
Confirm that the truck arrangement matches the authorization and that common entrances remain usable. If an obstruction or changed building rule prevents the agreed method, stop to resolve the change with the responsible people. At delivery, check room placement while the crew is still present, retain the agreed documents and complete a final walk-through for belongings or equipment that may have been missed.

Request an estimate with the access decisions attached
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Include the Wilmington truck-space status and the person responsible for any City application. Add photographs of the stoop, entrance, stairs and loading route, the building's permitted hours and any outstanding approval. Describe packing, storage, specialist items and extra stops so the estimate can address the full sequence rather than the room count alone.

Questions before you move
What should I include in a Wilmington estimate request?
Provide both complete addresses, the inventory, possession dates, packing choices, extra stops and access details. Include the status of the truck position, building approval and any required street-closing application.
Who should I ask about parking a moving truck?
Start with Wilmington 311, or 302-576-2620 from outside City limits. Ask for the applicable Parking Enforcement and Public Works instructions for the actual vehicle, location and loading period.
Does every move require fourteen days of notice?
The published fourteen-day requirement concerns the street-closing application. Confirm whether the proposed move needs that process or another authorization; do not treat it as a universal moving-truck deadline.
Does a residential parking permit reserve the loading space?
The residential permit guidance concerns relief from time limits in the permit zone. It does not establish a reserved space, a street closure or permission to disregard other parking restrictions.
Are basic furniture assembly and packing materials included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What should I measure at a rowhouse?
Measure the furniture, usable door opening, stair and landing dimensions, and turns through the building. Photograph the approach from the proposed truck position and identify any shared or restricted access.
What if possession or access is delayed?
Contact the property representative and moving contact before unloading starts. Confirm when access will be available and review any authorized alternative, including the timing, handling and cost of temporary storage or another delivery.
