Moving services in Chappaqua, New York
Plan the shipment around both properties and a confirmed receiving window. Sterling Oakbridge can coordinate preparation, carrying, transport and delivery once the contents, work and access are agreed.
01 /
Plan the two ends of your Chappaqua move
Give Sterling Oakbridge both street addresses, unit numbers, the proposed dates and the belongings that will travel. A move from a city apartment to a house needs the apartment’s loading window and the house’s receiving route to work together. A move within Chappaqua needs the same care with inventory, access and possession.
This page focuses on Chappaqua, a Census-designated place in Westchester County. A Chappaqua mailing address can describe a wider area, so use the actual property address when requesting service. Our existing White Plains moving page is a regional reference. It does not establish a Chappaqua office. For address selection and household setup, use the separate Chappaqua living guide.

Choose the work to include
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |

Make the shipment and access visible
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Separate the contents of each room from items in the garage, attic, basement or off-site storage. Identify what stays, what will be donated and what you will take yourself. Send photos of large pieces and of the route from the intended vehicle position to the final rooms at both addresses. Include door openings, turns, steps, stairs and the carrying distance.
Tell us which rooms require packing, what you will finish yourself and when that work will be ready. A home’s floor area is useful context; it cannot show the number of books, a fragile collection or an internal change of level. Changes to inventory or access should reach the planning team before the affected work begins.
04 /
Follow the route through the house
Check the route as a continuous journey: driveway or standing place, outside path, threshold, hallway, internal steps and destination room. A split-level entrance may have a short stair inside even when the outside approach looks simple. Show the entire turning space rather than sending only a close-up of the door.
Agree which entrance can actually be used and keep it clear of household belongings. Ask the owner or manager about floor protection, working hours, common areas and who can authorize entry. For a rental or managed property, obtain that property’s move instructions. A clear route on a house viewing does not establish a reserved elevator, access to a locked side entrance or permission to use shared land.

05 /
Confirm the standing place and commercial route
Identify a private space with the owner’s permission, then check entry, vehicle standing room, overhead branches, surface condition and exit. Send the route and measurements for review; a large driveway in a listing photograph may still have a tight turn or unusable slope. Agree a fallback if another vehicle or contractor occupies the intended space.
For public space, ask the relevant authority about the proposed vehicle, duration and date, and obey actual signs. New Castle’s Highway Unit handles Town-road maintenance and says it does not maintain state or county roads; confirm the road owner before asking for arrangements. Station commuter parking rules are not a moving-truck loading permit.
NYSDOT’s parkway guidance excludes commercial vehicles from New York State parkways. Have the commercial vehicle route reviewed instead of sharing a passenger-car shortcut as the truck itinerary.

Prepare before the carrying window
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Choose full packing, selected rooms or specified items. Books, china, artwork and hanging clothes need different preparation, so describe the contents rather than requesting a number of generic boxes. Keep documents, medicines, keys, chargers and first-night supplies with you. Mark cartons for the receiving room and distinguish fragile contents.
When the origin has a short loading window, discuss whether packing should happen earlier. Confirm access for any preparation visit, who receives materials and which customer tasks must be complete. Do not assume a late unpacked room can be added without changing labor time or the day’s sequence.

07 /
Make delivery useful room by room
Prepare a room plan and name the person who will direct placement. Keep routes between the entrance, bathroom, bedrooms and kitchen usable while cartons are delivered. Set aside space for boxes that will be opened later so the first usable room does not become the staging area for every other room.
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. Taking contents out of boxes is an optional service charged for working time, and removal of packaging has a separate charge. Agree those choices before the day. Review delivered items with the team, keep the moving documents and follow the agreed reporting process if an issue appears.

Connect delivery to confirmed possession
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
Distinguish a scheduled closing or lease start from the time someone can actually open the receiving property. Confirm keys, the entrance, lighting and a usable standing place with the receiving contact. For a move from a managed city building, coordinate its elevator and loading reservations with the receiving window.
If possession changes, tell the planning team promptly. Discuss storage, handling and later delivery as separate stages, with availability and terms agreed in writing. Keep essentials for the gap outside the shipment. A tentative key appointment cannot promise that the property will be ready to receive everything.

Review specialist work before it is needed
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
For a piano, safe, artwork, unusually large furniture or complex installation, provide photographs, dimensions, weight if known and the full handling route. State the operation you need: transport, disassembly, preparation or installation. These are different parts of the scope and may need separate review.
Do not leave a stair, narrow turn or utility connection to be discovered after the item is loaded. The planning team can review the available work and agreed method; a general service menu does not approve every item for every property.

Give the business move an operating plan
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
For a Chappaqua office, shop or furniture receiving job, identify the manager who controls access, the allowed work window and the person who accepts delivery. Mark workstations and files by destination and separate equipment that must remain available. Discuss phased work if the business must operate through the move, with the sequence and timing agreed.
Assign IT shutdown, reconnection and testing explicitly to the responsible staff or provider. Share landlord instructions, loading access and any required building documents early. For alterations connected with a move, ask the New Castle Building Division about approvals; moving coordination does not replace construction or occupancy permissions.

Understand the price and protection choices
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
12 /
Arrange what leaves outside the shipment
Separate packing materials from furniture, household waste and renovation debris. New Castle’s refuse page directs residents to arrange paid special pickups with SaniPro for bulky household items and construction debris not normally collected. Do not put unwanted furniture out expecting ordinary weekly collection.
Town curbside recycling instructions call for cardboard to be broken down to no larger than 4 feet by 4 feet, with container recyclables loose and unbagged. Check the current street schedule and rules for the actual material. Company packaging removal is a separately charged service; choose whether you want that included or will use an eligible household disposal route yourself.

Questions before you move
How is a Chappaqua move estimated?
Share both addresses, the inventory, packing needs and access. The planning team may use a list, video review or an in-person survey. Local estimated hours and any minimum are not a fixed completion cap; agree changes to shipment or work before they are carried out.
Are blankets, tape and cartons charged the same way?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you take everything out of the cartons?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What if keys are delayed?
Contact the planning team promptly. Discuss storage, handling and later delivery as separate stages, with availability and terms confirmed. Keep essentials outside the shipment and have the receiving contact confirm actual access.
Does a train-station permit cover the moving truck?
No loading permission is established by commuter parking rules. Check the intended private or public standing place for the actual vehicle, work window and road owner before the day.
Can a city-apartment origin be coordinated with the house?
Provide the building’s elevator, loading, working-hour and access instructions along with the Chappaqua receiving plan. Confirm the reservations and responsible contacts at both ends as part of the agreed schedule.
Can specialist items or business work be included?
Yes, subject to review and an agreed scope. Describe the item, operation, weight if known and handling route, or the business work window and receiving plan. Specialist work is individually quoted; a menu does not approve every operation for every address.
