Movers in Yonkers, NY
We help Yonkers households and businesses pack, move and settle their belongings into the receiving rooms. Tell us the two addresses, the inventory and the work you need. We will review the access, truck route and dates, then prepare a written estimate for the agreed move.
01 /
Plan your Yonkers move around both addresses
Sterling Oakbridge helps Yonkers households and businesses pack, move and place their belongings. Start with the pickup and delivery addresses, the items going with you and the work you want handled. A move across town, a move to New York City and a shipment to another state need different route and timing decisions, even when the inventory is the same.
For a home with stairs, the first question is whether the largest pieces can pass the landings and doors. For an apartment with an elevator, it is whether the reserved car and service entrance provide a complete route to the truck. For a house with a driveway, check the usable entrance, slope and turning space before assuming the vehicle can pull in. Each address needs its own access review.
Tell us about a fixed lease end, closing or key handover at the beginning. We can plan collection and delivery as separate stages when needed, but a hoped-for closing time is not confirmed access. Keep one person authorized to approve changes and one person ready to receive the shipment.

Moving services for Yonkers homes and businesses
You can request transport for belongings you have packed, selected-room packing or a move with full packing and optional unpacking. If the new home will not be available when the old one must be empty, include storage and the later delivery in the first discussion. That lets the estimate address the whole sequence.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Keep the belongings being moved separate from those being donated, sold or discarded. Include extra stops and items held in a basement, garage or storage unit. A room count alone can miss the work that determines the crew, vehicle and preparation.

Commercial moving and reopening your business
We move office and business furniture and equipment with preparation agreed for the inventory and premises. Give us the last time each work area can be used, the receiving room for each group and the person who can approve placement. A shop, studio, office or practice may need different access arrangements even in the same building.
Before setting the carrying window, have both property managers identify the loading entrance, elevator booking, permitted hours and any required COI or labor arrangements. Confirm whether packing and materials can enter earlier. If a shared corridor must remain open, plan the sequence so packed items move through it rather than accumulate there.
Label workstations and components by their destination. Keep confidential records and essential devices under your own control unless their handling is specifically agreed. Delivery of equipment and restoration of business operations are separate milestones: name the person responsible for reconnecting, testing and signing off before staff return.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
04 /
Building access, stair landings and elevators
Photograph the route from the proposed truck position to the final room at both properties. Include outdoor steps, the entrance, tight turns and intermediate doors. For an elevator, provide its door opening and usable interior dimensions, the floor served and the route from that elevator to the apartment. A large lobby or passenger lift does not establish that a wrapped sofa will fit the service route.
For stairs, show each landing and any low ceiling or narrow turn. For a driveway, send a view from the street and explain whether it is shared. We review the vehicle and carrying method for the actual access; a car fitting a driveway does not establish truck clearance or a safe loading position.
Do not wait until moving day to mention a heavy safe, piano, unusually long sofa or furniture assembled inside the room. Basic disassembly, specialist furniture work and a piece that cannot pass the route are different problems. Send dimensions and photographs so the method can be reviewed before the crew is committed.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

05 /
Moving-truck parking and the final approach
First ask the property whether it provides an approved loading position for the actual vehicle and the whole carrying window. If street space is needed, send us the exact entrance and photographs of signs and curb conditions. Agree who will obtain any required City or property authorization before the date is fixed.
Yonkers’ parking code makes several distinctions that matter for a move. Commercial vehicles may use streets for prompt loading or unloading or while providing a commercial service; that does not set aside other parking restrictions. A marked loading zone has a 30-minute maximum for loading materials. That is not an all-day moving bay. The code also prohibits obstructing driveways or accessible curb cuts and generally requires at least ten feet of roadway to remain available for traffic. Its narrow temporary passenger-loading exception is not permission to block the street while moving furniture.
For a longer curb arrangement, start with Yonkers Traffic Engineering at 914-377-6739; ask which office must approve the particular location, duration, vehicle and any temporary restrictions. For a YPA-managed meter or facility, also use the Yonkers Parking Authority contact at 914-965-2467. Confirm the applicable process, lead time, charges and enforcement instructions in writing. We can coordinate the request and incorporate the approved arrangement into your move plan.
A monthly YPA facility permit applies to the named facility and listed vehicle and does not guarantee a space. It is not a moving-truck reservation. The City’s business loading-zone request concerns installing a zone for a business; it should not be substituted for a one-day residential arrangement.
The truck’s approach needs its own route
Do not send the crew the family car’s parkway route. The official downstate parkway guidance lists the Saw Mill River, Cross County, Sprain Brook and Bronx River parkways among roads where commercial vehicles and trucks are prohibited. Have the approach checked for the actual vehicle, posted restrictions and the final street. A short drive on a passenger-car map does not establish a legal truck route.

06 /
Packing and furniture preparation
Choose the groups you want us to pack: kitchenware, books, clothing, artwork or the whole home. Agree what remains your responsibility and when it will be ready. Keep keys, medication, personal documents, chargers and anything needed before delivery with you. Label cartons by the receiving room and keep items for disposal apart from the shipment.
If access is limited to a short elevator window, ask whether the building permits packing or materials delivery beforehand. Earlier preparation can reduce the work inside that window, but it requires its own approved access. Do not fill shared halls or stairs with cartons while waiting for the move.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

Moving estimates and their price basis
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
For a move entirely within New York, the written terms must identify the applicable tariff and pricing basis. NYSDOT’s Summary of Information for Shippers of Household Goods distinguishes hourly moves, weight-and-distance moves and written binding estimates. A statement of probable cost is not the same as a binding contract. Do not assume that every longer New York route uses one particular pricing method.
Compare the same inventory and work on each estimate: packing responsibility, vehicle and workers, travel charges, stairs or elevator, carrying distance, extra stops and storage. Ask which municipal or building charges are outside the moving price. The estimate should make these differences visible before you choose, rather than leave you to compare two totals for different jobs.
For example, moving the same contents from a third-floor walk-up and from an elevator apartment can require different carrying time and preparation. A reserved elevator still needs a clear route at street level. Tell the planning team about either restriction early so staffing and the sequence can be reviewed.
08 /
Pickup, delivery and moving protection
We review the inventory, service choices, access and proposed dates, then prepare the written scope. Confirm the work and its price basis before collection. For a New York intrastate household move, review the order for service and bill of lading described in the NYSDOT consumer booklet; retain your copies and make sure added work is recorded.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
At pickup, walk through what is moving, what stays and any condition concerns. At delivery, have room labels or a simple placement plan ready and an authorized person present. Check that the agreed items have arrived and record visible damage or missing items promptly on the delivery documents. Keep photographs and the paperwork if an issue needs follow-up.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
The federal protection choices above concern interstate household shipments. For a move wholly within New York, have the applicable New York liability terms and selected protection explained in the moving documents. A building COI concerns the property’s requirements; it does not establish full replacement coverage for your belongings.
09 /
Moving dates, winter access and a usable backup
Begin with the dates on which you can actually enter and leave each property. Then fit packing, collection, travel and delivery into those permissions. Keep an alternative date when possible. A weekday or a mid-month date may suit your household, but it does not by itself promise a lower price, an available crew or permission from the building.
Check the YPA street-parking calendar alongside the signs at the address. Suspension of alternate-side parking and suspension of meters are separate lists. A holiday therefore does not automatically clear all curb restrictions or create a place for the moving truck.
For a winter move, arrange clearance of the entrance, steps and carrying path before the crew arrives. Yonkers’ snow and ice rules assign sidewalk clearance to the property owner or designee: within six hours after daytime snowfall ends, or before noon the next day after nighttime snow. Those legal deadlines may be later than your booked access, so agree with the owner when the route will actually be ready. Do not assume the moving crew performs snow removal.
If keys, the elevator or the curb arrangement fall through
Contact the planning team and both property contacts as soon as a required approval or access becomes uncertain, before the crew departs or the last cancellation deadline passes. If delivery cannot proceed, compare an approved later window with a separately confirmed storage-and-redelivery arrangement. Agree the revised cost, who can authorize it and when delivery can restart. A storage enquiry alone is not a booking.
Keep essentials with you and arrange where the household will stay if access slips. If you must vacate the old home, the backup needs an accepted destination for the belongings, an authorized receiver and transport arrangements. Moving the truck to an unapproved curb or assuming it can wait overnight is not a substitute.
10 /
Moving-day essentials and unwanted items
Before the crew arrives, finish the packing you agreed to handle and mark anything that must stay. Clear the approved route and arrange access keys or a building representative. Keep children and pets away from the carrying path. At the old home, make a final check of closets, storage areas and rooms before handing back keys.
For unwanted furniture, plan removal before the move-out deadline. Under the City’s refuse and bulk rules, private homes and buildings of six units or fewer can put out one non-metal bulk item on the second scheduled weekly collection day. Metal bulk requires an appointment through 914-377-4357. Garbage and bulk cannot be set out before sundown on the evening before the scheduled collection. Check the address schedule and holiday changes; a pile placed outside on moving day is not automatically an eligible pickup.
If the building or the items do not fit that municipal route, ask management about its collection arrangement or request separately quoted removal. Tell us what needs to leave, the carrying route and the deadline. Keep the removal list separate from the inventory going to your new home.
At the receiving property, identify the room for each item before unloading starts. Check placement and agreed basic reassembly while the crew is present. Optional unpacking and packaging removal should already be in the scope so the receiving window allows for them.

Request an estimate for your Yonkers move
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Send both addresses, preferred dates and any fixed deadline; a room-by-room inventory or item list; the floors and stairs or elevators; packing choices; extra stops; and photographs of oversized pieces or difficult access. Include the property’s moving instructions and contacts if you have them. Say whether storage, removal or optional unpacking is part of the request.
For a household move wholly within New York, NYSDOT advises checking the carrier’s authority using its exact legal name and certificate number. Ask for those details and the written move documents before booking.

Questions before you move
Can you move me between two addresses in Yonkers?
Yes. We provide local household moving in Yonkers. Send the two addresses, inventory, dates and access details so we can review the work and prepare an estimate. Include packing, extra stops and anything that must be removed separately.
Is a move from Yonkers to New York City an interstate move?
No: a move with pickup in Yonkers and delivery in New York City that stays within New York is intrastate. Crossing into another state changes the regulatory category. Give the actual addresses and route to the planning team so the applicable paperwork and price basis are identified; distance alone does not decide this.
Can a moving truck use a Yonkers loading zone for several hours?
A marked loading zone is not a several-hour reservation. Yonkers Code §109-84 limits loading materials there to 30 minutes. For a longer move, arrange suitable private loading or ask Traffic Engineering which authorization is needed for the exact curb position and time. Share the confirmed arrangement with the crew before arrival.
Does my YPA monthly parking permit reserve a place for the moving truck?
No. A YPA monthly permit applies to the listed vehicle and facility and does not guarantee a space. It does not reserve curb space for a moving truck. Have the actual vehicle, position and duration reviewed separately with the property and the responsible City or YPA office.
Who handles the curb and building arrangements?
We can help coordinate permits, COIs and elevator bookings. The move plan should name who submits each request, who approves it and who pays any separate City or building charge. Send the property instructions and entrance location early. An application or a paid parking meter is not confirmation that the planned move is authorized.
Can the truck follow my usual parkway route?
No. The truck needs a route reviewed for its vehicle class and dimensions. Official downstate guidance restricts commercial vehicles and trucks on the Saw Mill River, Cross County, Sprain Brook and Bronx River parkways. Share both addresses and any property approach instructions; do not substitute passenger-car navigation for the truck’s route.
Can you move an apartment with stairs or a small elevator?
Yes, subject to reviewing the actual carrying route and items. Send the floor, photographs of steps and landings, and the elevator’s usable dimensions where relevant. Oversized or heavy pieces may need separate preparation. If an item will not pass, its method must be resolved before the booked move; a room measurement alone does not prove access.
How much will my Yonkers move cost?
Most local moves are charged by time, with the hourly basis, minimum and separately priced work stated in the estimate. Packing, travel, stairs, carrying distance, extra stops and storage can change the work. Estimated hours are not a fixed total. For a New York intrastate move, confirm the applicable tariff and whether the document is a probable-cost estimate or a written binding estimate.
Can a longer move within New York have a fixed price?
A written binding estimate is one of the pricing methods described by NYSDOT; it must cover the agreed items and services. It is different from a probable-cost estimate. Ask which method applies to your route and shipment. For long-distance work quoted at a flat rate, the same agreed scope keeps the same price; additions and access changes need a written review.
Are boxes, wrapping and basic furniture assembly included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you pack before the moving day and unpack afterward?
Yes. We can plan packing before collection when the property permits access, and optional box unpacking at delivery. Agree which rooms or items we handle and what you will finish yourself. Packing and box unpacking are charged for time, boxes are separate, and the receiving window must allow for the selected work.
Will you remove all the packaging after delivery?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
Do you move offices and handle computers?
Yes. We move office furniture and equipment and can provide IT disconnection and transport. Arrange reconnection, testing and system startup with your IT team. Send the equipment list, building rules and the business schedule that must be protected; delivery does not by itself establish that the workplace is ready to reopen.
What happens if the new keys or elevator are not available?
Tell the planning team and property contacts before dispatch or the last relevant cancellation deadline. Confirm either a usable later delivery window or available storage with a separate redelivery plan and revised charges. Keep essentials with you and arrange where your household will stay. Do not assume a truck can wait overnight or that a storage enquiry is a confirmed booking.
Can I leave my old sofa at the curb when I move out?
Yes, for an eligible municipal pickup: Yonkers lists couches as non-metal bulk items and requires sleeper sofas to be tied closed. Private homes and buildings of six units or fewer may put out one non-metal bulk item on their second scheduled weekly collection day, no earlier than sundown the previous evening. Check the address schedule and holiday changes. For a larger building or a different move-out deadline, arrange collection through management or request separately quoted removal.
Does a building COI mean all my belongings are fully insured?
No. A COI addresses the building’s documentation requirements. Your goods are covered under the liability or protection terms selected for the move. Interstate Full Value Protection and Released Value are distinct options; a move wholly within New York has its applicable state terms. Ask for the limits, cost and claims process before choosing protection.
How should I prepare for a winter moving day?
Have the owner or responsible person clear the entrance, steps and approved carrying route before arrival, and check current street restrictions. Yonkers requires sidewalk snow clearance within six hours after daytime snow ends or before noon after nighttime snow, but an earlier moving window needs earlier preparation. If access cannot be made usable, agree a revised window or a confirmed alternative before dispatch.
What should I send for the first estimate?
Send both addresses, dates and fixed deadlines, the items to move, floors and access, packing choices and extra stops. Include photographs of large pieces and tight routes, plus building instructions if available. You can start with incomplete measurements; the planning team will identify what needs a closer video or in-person review.
