Moving services in Shadyside, Ohio
Moving into Shadyside starts with the actual entrance, a usable vehicle position and a property ready to receive your belongings. Sterling Oakbridge helps plan household and commercial moving, packing and storage around your inventory and the work required at both ends.
01 /
Choose the services your shipment needs
List what will be delivered to the new home, what goes to storage and what needs a separate destination. Include belongings in garages, basements and outbuildings. If you are downsizing, identify the furniture you have already decided to keep before the shipment is surveyed.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
For a move between Ohio and West Virginia, give the exact pickup and delivery addresses, even when the journey is within the Ohio Valley. A short trip across a state boundary still needs the appropriate written move arrangements. Tell the team about an additional stop, a storage stage or a second receiving person when requesting your estimate.
Use the Wheeling moving-services page when planning the regional end of your journey, and send your actual Shadyside address for route and availability review.
02 /
Prepare one complete estimate brief
A practical survey connects the shipment to the route. Start with a room-by-room furniture and carton list; mark any approximate quantities and update them when packing is finished. Add photos of bulky pieces, narrow turns and the outside approach. A bedroom count by itself misses the basement, workshop or collection that can change the load.
| Send | Include | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Inventory | Furniture, cartons, loose items and all stops | Capacity and delivery sequence |
| Access | Floors, steps, doors, surfaces and vehicle position | Handling method and carrying time |
| Preparation | Packing, furniture work and unusual pieces | Materials, staffing and scope |
| Timing | Vacating deadline, key handover and receiver | Feasible pickup and delivery stages |
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Identify a contact who can answer questions about both properties. If a manager controls the receiving entrance, include their instructions and the confirmed access window. Distinguish a requested time from one already agreed.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
03 /
Show the entire route from vehicle to room
Photograph the approach continuously: intended standing area, pavement or driveway, walkway, steps, landing, door and the turns inside. Include the route to upstairs or basement rooms when those rooms are part of the job. A photograph of the front facade alone cannot show a difficult interior turn.
For a porch entrance, show the width between rails and the space to turn at the top. Note loose steps, uneven paving, low branches and thresholds. At a side entrance, check that the door is actually available and that the route leads to a suitable receiving room. Send approximate measurements as estimates rather than presenting them as verified clearance.
Keep the carrying path clear of footwear, rugs that slide, unpacked cartons, pets and spectators. Arrange a separate place for children. When a large piece may conflict with a doorway, give its dimensions and construction details so the team can review the method before arrival.
Discuss any removal of a door, railing or anchored item with the property owner and moving team. Access through an alternative entrance needs permission and a usable path; it cannot be assumed from a listing photograph.

04 /
Confirm a position for the planned vehicle
Find out whether the proposed position is private property, a shared area or a public street. Check how the vehicle will enter, stand and leave without blocking driveways or pedestrian access. A car parking space may be too short or have a different approach from the vehicle selected for your shipment.
The county engineer’s village directory lists Shadyside at 50 East 39th Street, 740-676-5972. Ask the responsible village office about a proposed public-street arrangement, any required approval and the time needed to obtain it. The directory provides a contact; it does not establish a moving-truck reservation procedure.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
For a private drive or commercial court, ask the owner or manager where unloading is permitted and when the area is available. Confirm door or gate access and an alternate authorized position if the first one is occupied. Tell the planning team if the alternate creates a longer carry or different surface.
Check ODOT OHGO near dispatch for Ohio road restrictions and closures. If the journey crosses the river, check the receiving state as well. The moving team should review vehicle suitability; a passenger-car route from an app does not establish it.

05 /
Match packing to the contents and stage
Choose full packing, selected rooms, fragile items or help completing your own cartons. List the work still outstanding instead of saying that a home is nearly ready. A kitchen in daily use, an unstarted collection and a few loose linens require different preparation.
Use smaller cartons for dense books and suitable larger cartons for light towels or bedding. Keep each carton manageable and protect fragile contact surfaces. Tell the team about delicate collections, valuable pieces and unusual materials before the packing plan is settled.
Label by destination room and stage: immediate delivery, storage or another stop. Keep keys, medicines, documents, chargers and first-night belongings with the household. Ask about items with fuel, liquids or batteries before including them; do not hide them among ordinary household contents.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
If packing happens before move day, confirm who can admit the crew and which rooms remain in use. Update the plan when the packing list grows. Finishing preparation at the last minute can change both timing and the work billed.

06 /
Review furniture and difficult items early
Measure the piece and show the joints, attachments and both carrying routes when a sofa, tall chest or large table may be awkward. Identify wall anchoring, previous assembly changes and fragile surfaces. Include the intended room so the plan accounts for the final placement.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
For heavy or unusual equipment, supply a model, dimensions and known weight; mark missing information honestly. The team may need further review before choosing crew, vehicle and method. Tell us about level changes, tight turns or a receiving floor that cannot take the proposed load.
Agree which pieces need dismantling, reassembly or a separate specialist. Basic furniture work does not settle every installation task. For powered equipment, have the appropriate owner arrange safe disconnection and later reconnection.
07 /
Plan around the business restart
Set a restart target and work backward through access, packing and delivery. Prepare a destination layout for desks, cabinets and workstations; label items by department or desk rather than only by room. Identify the equipment that must remain working until the last day.
Keep records, passwords, cash and sensitive documents under the business’s own control. Ask the IT owner to label connections, arrange backups and decide who reconnects and tests equipment. Transporting an item does not confirm that its software, network or specialist installation is ready.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
Coordinate the receiving door, lift or service court with management. Confirm who approves the loading period and who is available to receive the shipment. If access is shared, protect the daily route of other occupants and agree a practical delivery sequence.
For a staged office move, distinguish early deliveries from the equipment needed on restart day. Tell the team about new pieces or a changed floor plan before the affected work begins. A late change can require revised time, handling or storage.
08 /
Make the receiving property ready
Confirm possession, keys and a person who can open the property. Give the receiver the room plan and carton labels, then keep a clear area for urgent items. If a room is being decorated or has no usable entrance, select another agreed destination before unloading begins.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
Walk through the shipment and receiving arrangement with the crew. Keep the inventory and moving documents available, and use the agreed process to note any issue. Distinguish transport, furniture work and separate installation tasks when deciding what is complete.
Tell the team promptly if access or the receiver changes. A locked property, occupied standing area or unavailable lift can affect the delivery stage. Do not ask a driver to wait indefinitely while a handover problem remains unresolved.

09 /
Use storage as a planned stage
Storage can help when the shipment is ready before the home or when downsizing takes longer than the handover. Identify which belongings need early retrieval, how long the gap may last and the conditions required by delicate items. Do not pack first-week essentials where they cannot be reached.
Ask for the written storage arrangement, access rules, handling stages, protection and applicable charges. Confirm the onward delivery plan and who receives it. Moving to storage and delivering later are separate operations to account for in the scope.
If the receiving date is uncertain, give the team a realistic range and name the person who can confirm possession. Update the plan before the original delivery stage proceeds. A tentative closing date should not be treated as an available entrance.
10 /
Resolve items that will not move
Separate reusable belongings, recycling and items needing removal before packing the shipment. Ask any recipient whether the exact item is accepted, when it can be delivered and whether collection has been arranged. Acceptance of small household goods does not mean a destination can receive a large sofa.
Use JB Green Team’s acceptable-material guidance for unpacking waste. Cardboard and other materials have their own preparation and drop-off rules. Furniture, mattresses, electronics and difficult waste need a separately verified destination or collection.
Confirm household trash provider, collection day and bulk-item instructions for the address with the landlord or village contact. Do not leave a large item at the curb solely because routine waste is collected there. If Sterling Oakbridge removal work is requested, include the item list and agree the permitted scope and destination with the planning team.
11 /
Prepare for a failed handover or access window
Before loading, identify what happens if keys arrive late, the receiving door cannot open or essential utilities are unavailable. Name the person authorized to decide on a new stage, an alternate receiver and any planned storage option.
Keep a small overnight kit with the household and keep important papers accessible. If the property cannot safely receive the shipment, contact its responsible owner and the moving team before continuing on the original assumptions.
Discuss the extra handling, waiting, storage or later delivery in writing as appropriate. A backup arrangement needs usable access and agreed responsibilities. Alert the team early when circumstances change, because the same vehicle or crew may have other scheduled commitments.
12 /
Send the final request and choose protection
Bring the inventory, preparation choices, access photos and timing into one request. State the result you need: one complete delivery, selected items, a business restart or storage followed by delivery. Include all stops and the best contacts for questions.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
Review the written scope, chosen protection and any unresolved operation before booking. Keep additions and access changes attached to the same plan so the crew receives the current version. For local life after arrival, read the Shadyside living guide.

Questions before you move
Can you plan a move between Shadyside and West Virginia?
Send both exact addresses, shipment and dates. The planning team reviews route, availability and the written arrangements, including any interstate requirements.
What changes a local moving total?
Most local work is billed by actual time under the written terms. Inventory, access, readiness, traffic and added work can alter time; estimated hours help plan the day.
How do I arrange a vehicle position on a public street?
Ask the responsible Shadyside office about your exact proposed position and vehicle. The county village directory supplies a contact but does not establish a household moving-truck reservation procedure.
Are basic packing materials included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you help with unpacking?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What should I tell you about a piano, safe or large artwork?
Supply dimensions, model and known weight or value where relevant, plus photographs of both routes and level changes. Agree the method and any separate specialist work before dispatch.
What if the new home is unavailable on delivery day?
Tell the team as soon as possible. Review an authorized receiver, storage or revised delivery stage and its written work and charges before relying on it.
Who reconnects business equipment?
Agree that role with your IT or equipment owner. Moving and placing equipment does not establish technical reconnection or a working system.
