Moving in Homestead, Pennsylvania
Start with the addresses, belongings and the date the destination can receive them. We can review the work and access so your estimate follows the move you actually need.
01 /
Turn the two addresses into a moving plan
Send the pickup and delivery street addresses, units and floors, together with the dates and a receiving contact. Homestead here means the Pennsylvania borough in Allegheny County. A 15120 mailing address can lead you to a different municipal office; check the property itself rather than applying one borough's requirements to Munhall or West Homestead.
For a move within the Pittsburgh area, include the origin as carefully as the destination. Our Pittsburgh moving page provides the city connection; it does not establish a Homestead office or approve a loading location. The Homestead settling-in guide covers the school, account and everyday tasks around the same address.
02 /
Select the work you want completed
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Separate the belongings being moved from the preparation still needed. A household can need selected packing and one delivery; a shop or office may need furniture, stock and equipment handled in stages. Identify the tasks you will do yourself and the person who can answer scope questions.
03 /
Measure the route through each property
Photograph the vehicle approach, entrance, stairs, landings and tight turns at both ends. Include the door open and the actual route from each large item to the street. A room dimension does not show whether a sofa can pass its staircase or whether a lower-level piece can reach the loading position.
Record shared hallways, a porch, outside steps, uneven surfaces and places where a vehicle cannot stand. Tell us about the largest and heaviest pieces, with dimensions or make and model where available. Clear the agreed carrying path and keep children and pets away from moving traffic.
For a shared building, ask management about the moving window, reservations and usable entrance. Get written instructions early enough for packing and delivery preparation to fit the same plan.

04 /
Separate truck loading from a container or street closure
An empty curb is not permission. Show the proposed truck position, nearby crossings, driveways and the way the vehicle will leave. Ask Homestead Borough which arrangement applies before reserving space or changing traffic. The street-closing application asks for the street and cross streets, date, time period and reason; submission still needs approval.
A portable storage container is a separate decision. The borough's Dumpster & PODS application sets off-street placement as the starting arrangement and describes limited on-street placement, clearance and protection requirements. It also sets time limits. Check the exact proposed site and permitted dates with the borough; those container conditions do not approve an ordinary moving truck.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

05 /
Agree on packing before the carrying day
List the rooms and groups you want packed, including storage areas, fragile collections and office contents. Show the contents of cupboards and closets when estimating volume. Keep documents, medication, chargers and the first-night bag with you.
Use suitable cartons for self-packed belongings, close and label them, and keep the exit clear. Books belong in small book cartons; filling a large carton with dense books makes it difficult to handle. Pack fragile pieces as a separate task with protection between them. If packing happens ahead of the truck day, confirm where the cartons can safely wait.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

06 /
Identify furniture and equipment that change the method
Flag a piano, safe, gym machine, large wardrobe, artwork or other item requiring a separate handling review. Give the room and floor at both ends as well as the dimensions. A planned placement on arrival is useful only after the route to that room is checked.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
For wall-mounted items, distinguish removal, transport and installation. Supply the property permission and describe the mounting or wall conditions so the proposed work can be reviewed before the day.

07 /
Keep one current scope for the estimate
Include the belongings that will stay, any additional stops, packing responsibility and access requirements. Update the written plan when furniture, dates or the destination change. An estimate based on an incomplete storage room cannot silently cover a larger shipment.
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
08 /
Connect moving dates with possession and occupancy
Ask the seller, landlord or closing team when keys and lawful possession will actually be available. Homestead's 2026 property-sale instructions distinguish occupancy, zoning, dye-test and other closing documents. A zoning certification is not an occupancy certificate. Confirm the property's applicable documents with Code Enforcement at 412-461-1340, extension 104, before treating a closing date as a receiving date.
If access is delayed, contact the move-planning team while options can still be reviewed. Decide what stays with you, what can enter storage and who confirms the new receiving window. Get any additional handling or storage stage into the written scope rather than assuming the truck can wait indefinitely.
09 /
Protect the business restart separately
For an office, shop or workspace, identify furniture, stock, equipment and any records that require special treatment. Name the person supervising the move and the people responsible for access, inventory checks and reopening. Plan the carrying window around confirmed building and business requirements.
Coordinate the destination's permitted use and occupancy with the borough and property owner. The borough forms index has commercial occupancy and related applications; it does not certify a proposed business at a specific address. Arrange the applications and property readiness before committing to a restart time.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Make the destination ready to receive
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
Confirm the person with keys, the room plan, the utilities needed that day and any building reservation. Mark rooms and reserve a carton area that does not obstruct the next delivery. For staged delivery, say which items are essential first and which can wait.
Discuss liability options before signing the moving documents, especially for artwork and high-value pieces. Keep an inventory and record any delivery concern through the agreed process.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
11 /
Plan the work after unloading
Choose any box unpacking, cleaning or packaging removal you want included. Ordinary borough refuse collection is a separate service: Homestead's refuse guidance excludes construction material, paint, TVs and other electronics from ordinary pickup. Confirm the current street schedule and any bulk or carton preparation before placing move-out material outside.
Recheck the forecast close to the date, clear the agreed path and arrange a practical backup for delayed keys or a changed receiving window. For school registration, utility accounts and the first-week errands, use the companion Homestead guide.

Questions before you move
What information starts a Homestead estimate?
Send both street addresses and units, dates, an inventory or photographs, packing responsibilities and access instructions. Include stairs, any additional stops and a closing or storage stage.
Can a POD use the same permission as a moving truck?
Ask the borough about each proposed arrangement. Its Dumpster & PODS application sets container placement and time conditions; the street-closing application is separate, and neither automatically approves an ordinary truck position.
Are basic materials and assembly separate charges?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack after unloading?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What happens if the keys are delayed?
Contact the planning team early to review changed dates, storage or staged delivery. Confirm the receiving access and have any added work or handling written into the scope.
Is an hourly estimate a maximum total?
Estimated hours help plan staffing and the day. The final charge follows the written terms and work performed; additions or changed conditions need review.
