Movers in Colchester, Vermont
Send both addresses, the belongings travelling, possible dates and the work you need. We will review preparation, the handling route and receiving arrangements for your estimate.
01 /
Plan the shipment around the actual Colchester address
A move near Malletts Bay, the village or a shared building starts with the belongings and the work required. Send both full addresses, possible dates, a room-by-room inventory and photographs of unusual items. Include sheds, storage, separate pickups and anything staying behind.
Identify the person who controls keys and the receiving rooms. Tell us whether you need transport, selected packing, a full household move or a business transfer, and mark anything waiting for property handover or approval.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |

Show the item and the route before choosing the survey
Photograph each difficult piece together with the turns, stairs and doorways it must pass. A floor-area figure does not show the contents of a home or the route to an upstairs room. Identify a narrow side entry, shared corridor or basement transition before the working day.
Separate the belongings you will prepare from packing or dismantling you want quoted. Send later purchases, additional collection points and changed destinations while the plan can still be reviewed.
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Follow the complete route through the property
Walk from the proposed truck position to the starting and receiving rooms. Show steps, thresholds, door swings, interior turns and changes from gravel to a landing or floor. Include the entrance actually used for deliveries, which may differ from the front door.
For an apartment or business building, ask management about the service entrance, moving hours, protection, elevator or stair access and the person opening a restricted area. A usable front entrance does not confirm the rest of the handling route.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

04 /
Resolve the standing space and current road conditions
Show where the vehicle can stand, how it reaches that position and how it leaves. Establish who may authorize a private drive, shared lot or road position. Keep pedestrian routes, neighboring access and the departure space usable.
The town’s Public Works department can help identify a town road or right-of-way question. Its office number is 802-264-5620. Explain the exact location and operation; a department page does not grant a truck reservation.
Near the shore, check the Malletts Bay sewer project updates before sending directions. Published connection work involves changing lane access and detours on parts of West and East Lakeshore Drive; schedules are estimates and need a check for the actual day.

05 /
Assign one packing plan to each room
Choose household packing, selected professional packing or a full preparation stage. Name who checks that the rooms are ready, and keep medicines, personal records, valuables, chargers and first-night essentials with the household.
Use suitable small 1.5 ft³ Book Boxes for books, which become heavy quickly. Keep that task separate from dishes, glassware and linens. Label destination rooms and identify fragile or unusual pieces before the final packing day.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

06 /
Empty furniture before applying protection
Empty cabinets and remove loose shelves before protection. Keep detached panels, fittings and hardware identified with their item. A blanket protects the prepared furniture; it should not conceal books, plants or other contents left inside or on top.
Show the whole piece and its destination. Agree which dismantling and assembly are required, including any work attached to a building or connected to services. The equipment and crew must suit the real item and route.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

07 /
Align keys, preparation and the working window
List the outgoing deadline, access to the new home, building bookings and the person receiving. Include other contractors, school or work obligations and a possible packing day. Send an evening, weekend or staged request with its full scope so availability can be assessed.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Recheck the inventory and access when conditions change. Estimated working hours help plan the operation; unfinished packing or a changed receiving route can affect the work actually required.
08 /
Confirm the final approach in winter
Colchester’s winter program includes an overnight restriction on unauthorized parking on public land and highways from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., November 15 through March 15. Confirm the actual location and permission rather than applying a neighboring town’s rule.
Agree who clears and treats the entrance, landing and handling route. A plowed road may still leave a ridge at the driveway or ice on private steps. Send changed conditions before dispatch and review the receiving arrangement if the route is unavailable.
09 /
Plan the interval if the new property is delayed
Discuss storage and later delivery before collection when keys, repairs or essential connections are unresolved. Review the handling stages, expected dates, access to stored belongings and charges. Name a receiving contact for the later stage.
Keep the belongings needed during the interval outside the shipment. Arrange suitable accommodation and a way to reach it for the household; a storage arrangement for furniture does not settle those personal needs.
10 /
Separate transport from the business restart
For an office or commercial move, label furniture and equipment to their destination work areas and name the building contacts. Identify heavy or delicate items, essential work that must remain available and the sequence for a staged transfer.
Arrange backups, technical preparation and recommissioning with the responsible specialists. Tell us what needs to be disconnected or moved; confirm system startup separately.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
11 /
Keep one current receiving plan
Provide the usable approach, entrance, room placement and person who can resolve a changed condition. Clear the route and the rooms needed first. Keep the receiving contact available through the agreed delivery stages.
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
Check the shipment against the inventory and raise a concern through the agreed process. Confirm remaining work before the person responsible for receiving leaves.
12 /
Review the protection applying to your shipment
FMCSA’s liability guidance explains federal interstate valuation options. Identify high-value items early and review the written documents for the move you are arranging; state requirements and individual terms need their own review.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
13 /
Choose an eligible packaging-removal arrangement
Include optional unpacking and packaging removal in the requested scope, with time, charges and the material destination. Household waste, moving cartons and renovation debris may need different arrangements.
The town’s local-service FAQs state that Colchester does not provide household trash or recycling pickup. Confirm the private service or eligible drop-off destination. A resident’s disposal option is not automatically permission for a commercial load.
14 /
Send the current inventory and outstanding decisions
Provide both addresses, belongings, possible dates, requested services and the full access information. Mark the decisions still open: keys, packing, management approval, standing space, receiving readiness or storage.
Assign a contact and confirmation date to each dependency. Update the planning team when the facts change, and review the agreed scope and written charges before the affected work begins.

Questions before you move
What should I send for a Colchester moving estimate?
Send both full addresses, the inventory, possible dates, requested preparation and photographs of difficult items and access. Identify keys, packing or approvals that are still outstanding.
Can Lakeshore Drive work affect delivery directions?
Check the current Malletts Bay sewer project notice for the actual street and date. Published phase dates are estimates; obtain current access instructions before dispatch.
How are basic assembly and packing materials charged?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Should cabinets be emptied before protection?
Empty them and remove loose shelves before preparation. Keep detached parts and fittings identified, and agree the required dismantling and assembly for the actual item.
What if the receiving home is not ready?
Review storage and later delivery before collection, including timing, handling, access and charges. Keep interval essentials with the household and arrange suitable accommodation.
Can I request unpacking and packaging removal?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
Confirm an eligible disposal arrangement for the actual materials and person transporting them.
