Movers in Hampton Bays, NY

Sterling Oakbridge helps with moves to, from and within Hampton Bays. We plan the packing, handling and delivery around the belongings, the properties and what you want completed.

01 /

Start with what is changing

A move into a year-round home, a change of seasonal property and a few rooms going into storage call for different preparations. Decide what is coming, what stays and what has another destination before those groups become mixed.

If you are arranging the move for someone else, identify the person who can approve an extra stop or a change to the load. For a property that will be empty before arrival, confirm who has the key and when the crew can enter. A closing appointment and a usable house are two separate things to put in the plan.

Still deciding where to live? Our Hampton Bays relocation guide covers local contacts and questions for an address visit. This page explains how to prepare the moving work once the property is known.

Choose the work you want handled

You may want the whole home packed, help with selected fragile contents or transport for belongings you have already prepared. Describe the result you need, including anything that must be stored or delivered later.

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

Moving helpWhat we can includeWhat to send
Local residential movingLoading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyBoth addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property
Interstate movingPickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when neededDestination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment
Commercial movingOffice and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictionsBusiness type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect
Packing and unpackingSelected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpackingWhat you will pack and what you want us to prepare
Storage and staged deliveryStorage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery planExpected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage
Designer and hotel furniture receivingReceiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed planExpected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site

When several destinations are involved, label those groups clearly and agree the stops in advance. Marking a box “family” or “storage” is useful only when everyone knows the actual destination and who will receive it.

03 /

Compare the whole route through the property

A side gate and a sliding doorway may look easier than the front entrance. Follow the route all the way from the room to the vehicle before deciding. Check the opening with the door in its usable position, any threshold, the turn beyond it and the surface underfoot.

For raised entries, show both the stairs and the landing. For a narrow hallway, photograph the approach as well as the tight point. A piece may fit through a door and still have nowhere to turn. Leave any removal of doors, rails or fixed fittings to an agreed plan with the owner and crew.

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Keep the chosen route free of planters, hose reels and loose items. Arrange a separate secure place for pets while doors and gates are being used.

Check a working position for the vehicle

Show the driveway entrance, its surface, the turning space and the route to the chosen door. On a shared drive, establish who may use it and how other people will retain access. A space that accommodates the household car may not allow a loaded vehicle to turn, unload and leave.

Mention soft edges, a sandy section, a drainage crossing or an approach that changes after rain. Do not direct a heavy vehicle onto a lawn or uncertain surface simply to shorten the carry. Let us assess the position and whether another arrangement is needed.

If loading would involve a public road or a managed area, settle the relevant permission with the responsible authority or property manager. A beach-parking permit does not reserve a moving-truck space. The guide’s delivery-access section helps separate those arrangements.

05 /

Include the rooms outside your first inventory

Walk through cupboards, the shed, outdoor storage and any room used only between visits. Decide what belongs in the shipment before packing begins. Furniture staying with a property, items for another household and things awaiting disposal should be unmistakable.

Use smaller cartons for books and other dense contents. Keep fragile pieces protected individually and label cartons for their destination room. Outdoor belongings should be ready to handle and free of loose dirt; ask about preparation for anything containing liquids, fuel or other uncertain contents.

Labor, materials and optional work

Item or taskHow it is charged
Basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyPart of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee
Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tapeNo separate charge for these basic protection materials
Boxes supplied for your moveCharged separately
PackingCharged for working time; boxes are separate
Unwrapping furniturePart of delivery
Unpacking the contents of boxesOptional work, charged for working time
Packaging and waste removalCharged separately
Complex furniture and other specialist workIndividually quoted after review

Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

Keep a separate first-night bag with keys, medicines, documents, chargers and the few household items you will need immediately. Make sure it travels with you rather than disappearing into a room full of similar boxes.

Give an awkward item a complete description

For a large cabinet or unusually heavy piece, record dimensions and show the route at both properties. Note loose parts, existing damage and any preparation that must happen before handling.

Specialist services by individual quote

What needs attentionWork available for review
Complex furnitureBunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly
Heavy itemsPianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables
Art and collectionsFine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification
Hanging and installationPictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately
Business equipmentOffice furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route

Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

Keep fittings together and identify who is arranging specialist preparation. Transporting an appliance does not by itself settle disconnection or installation. Where another provider is involved, allow time for that work to be completed before the item needs to move.

07 /

Give the estimate one current set of details

Send the information together so the full job can be reviewed:

  • Collection, delivery and any additional-stop addresses.
  • Your inventory, including outdoor and stored belongings.
  • Preferred dates and any fixed key or access times.
  • The packing, storage and other help you want.
  • Entry photographs, stairs, narrow turns and the proposed vehicle position.

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.

Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

Tell us when the plan changes. An added shed, a different entrance or a new receiving date can affect the work even when the number of bedrooms stays the same. Keep the revised scope with the estimate so everyone is working from the same version.

08 /

Plan the business change around what must keep working

For a shop, office or other business, decide what must be usable first after delivery. Label furniture, stock and equipment for their new positions, and name the person who can make decisions on site.

Agree receiving hours and the working position with the building. Keep the moving route separate from customers or staff who remain present. If the business uses seasonal hours, give us the actual opening or shutdown dates rather than assuming that a quieter week means unrestricted access.

Machinery and technical equipment may need another provider to prepare or commission them. Schedule that work around the move and keep critical records, passwords and backups under your control.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

09 /

Set the date around real access

For a seasonal property, settle who opens the home, what remains there and who can respond if something is different on arrival. Arrange any property-care visit separately; moving belongings is not the same task as preparing the building’s systems.

From our scheduling experience, summer and dates near the middle, end and start of a month can be busy. Discuss those dates early. If you have flexibility, send an alternative date too so we can talk through availability.

Leave a contact and a workable alternative if a closing, delivery or weather change prevents entry. If the household cannot receive the load as planned, discuss storage and later delivery before the day becomes a sequence of hurried calls.

Direct and consolidated long-distance moving

Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.

10 /

Keep the agreed route ready

Before arrival, make the planned vehicle position available and clear the route through the home. Keep items that are staying, personal essentials and anything awaiting a decision apart from the moving load.

Walk through with the crew lead before the first carry. Point out the selected entrance, rooms and belongings needing particular attention. Tell the crew about a changed surface or a blocked doorway before it affects handling.

At delivery, mark the rooms and leave space for the larger pieces. Check placement while the crew can still act on it, and keep the agreed paperwork accessible. The evening is easier when the beds and essential furniture have reached their intended places.

Agree protection and the work after delivery

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

Decide whether you want help unpacking cartons, removing packaging or dealing with items you are not keeping. Those tasks need to appear in the agreed work; a pile beside the door does not explain who is responsible for it.

For resident self-haul, the town’s waste fee schedule lists the Hampton Bays transfer station at 30 Jackson Avenue and separates bulky-item charges from ordinary household waste. Check the item and eligibility before taking it there. The local guide explains how collection and transfer-station options fit together.

Questions before you move

Can you move a household within Hampton Bays or from another state?

Yes. Sterling Oakbridge handles local and interstate household moves. Tell us the actual addresses and the help needed so the work, access and timing can be reviewed together.

Can a side gate or sliding door be used for the furniture?

It may be useful, but the full route needs assessment: gate width, surface, threshold, opening and turns on both sides. Send photographs before choosing it as the carrying route.

What if the property is usually empty?

Confirm the person with the key, the entry time and who can respond to a change. Arrange any separate property-care or systems preparation before the crew needs access.

Can you handle packing for selected rooms only?

Yes. Identify what you will prepare and what you want us to pack. Include storage rooms, sheds and outdoor belongings in that decision so the scope is clear.

Does a local estimate fix the final number of hours?

No. Most local moves are charged for working time under the written terms. Estimated hours help plan the job; readiness, access, traffic and scope changes can affect the time required.

Are basic protection materials and furniture assembly separate charges?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

Can unwanted furniture be included in the moving work?

Tell us what needs removing so the task and price can be agreed. Resident disposal fees at a town facility are separate from any crew time, transport or removal service.
