Movers in Southampton, NY
Sterling Oakbridge movers help Southampton homes and businesses with local and interstate moves, packing, storage and specialist services. Share your addresses, dates and inventory so we can review the work and prepare your estimate.
01 /
Plan the receiving address and the route through the property
A Southampton move can involve a village apartment, a porched house, a shared building or a property beyond the village boundary. Start with both addresses, the inventory and the entrance that is actually available. A postal address does not establish which highway authority controls the curb.
Photograph the driveway, gate, steps, doorway and turns to the receiving rooms. Agree who releases keys and who can approve placement. If the move depends on a closing, an account transfer or a parking exception, keep the requested arrangement separate from the confirmed one.
Use the Southampton relocation guide to distinguish the village from nearby Town of Southampton hamlets before organizing local services.

Choose the help that matches the work
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Describe the result you need at each end: furniture placed in the new rooms, a selected group of items packed, a staged delivery or an agreed storage interval. Mark the possessions you will carry yourself and anything staying behind. This keeps the service discussion tied to the real inventory.

Coordinate a business move with the people reopening the space
For an office, shop or other commercial property, identify the person approving the move and the person controlling access at each building. Record the receiving entrance, loading position, security procedure and the rooms where items belong. A downtown shopfront may have a separate delivery door; an office suite may share its lift or corridor with other tenants.
Separate the physical move from technical shutdown and restart. Have your IT provider identify cables, equipment and network dependencies; ask the responsible specialist about any equipment that needs preparation beyond ordinary handling. List files, stock, fixtures and furniture by destination, and agree which group must be available first.
Give the estimator the permitted work window, not only the time the business closes. Arrange a receiver who can check the delivered inventory and authorize placement. If access changes, the decision-maker should be reachable before further handling or waiting is incurred.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Measure the complete carrying route
Walk from the proposed truck position to the final room. Count exterior and interior steps; photograph stair turns, door clearances, landings and any low ceiling. Include a detached garage, basement or attic in the inventory. For a deep lot, measure the driveway-to-door distance and identify whether the truck can enter and leave safely.
At a shared property, obtain written instructions for elevators, service doors, protective materials, keys and receiving hours. Ask whether other residents use the same lift and whether an attendant or building representative must be present. A lift reservation should identify the actual lift and usable time, including setup and clearing the route.
For a short window, discuss permitted preparation and delivery of materials beforehand. Do not plan to stack furniture in a corridor unless the responsible manager has approved a safe arrangement. Tell the estimator about unresolved restrictions while there is still time to change the sequence.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which City or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Confirm the street, the vehicle and the loading window
On Jobs Lane and the defined central segment of Main Street, Village Code §110-31 restricts stationary vehicles with a load capacity greater than one ton between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., including loading and unloading. The Main Street segment runs from Meeting House Lane and Jobs Lane to Nugent Street and Hampton Road. A household delivery is not automatically exempt.
For an exception, the code directs owners, occupants or tenants to a written application through the Village Clerk and a Board hearing. Ask the Clerk’s office for the applicable form, supporting details, timing and any charge. The hearing provision does not guarantee approval or reserve spaces.
For other village locations, ask Village Police about the actual truck position, signs, loading conditions and any use of a lane or sidewalk. Confirm who installs approved signs and who handles an occupied space. The full truck-access procedure also separates village truck routes from Town Highway permits.
Record a lawful alternative position and its carrying distance. Building permission and street permission must both fit the receiving window.

Decide what is packed, by whom and when
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Identify dense contents, fragile pieces and items that need individual discussion. Books belong in small book cartons; a larger carton is not a useful way to reduce the number of boxes if it becomes too heavy to handle. Keep one clear packing task at a time, and label cartons by destination room and contents.
Set aside identification, closing documents, medicines, chargers and first-night essentials before work begins. Tell the estimator about unpacking or packaging removal you want included, so those tasks can be discussed with the rest of the scope.

Understand what the estimate is planning
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Two homes with similar floor areas can require different work. A direct driveway entrance differs from a third-floor walk-up reached from a distant curb. Inventory, stairs, carrying distance, packing, large-piece handling, access restrictions and the delivery plan all matter.
Send the same information for both ends and disclose any additional stop or storage need. Identify fees charged by a municipality or building separately from moving services, including who pays them. Ask how waiting, a changed inventory or a revised destination would affect the agreed scope. Resolve these questions before the move is underway.

Review the scope, dates and protection choices
Dedicated long-distance moving
Our dedicated long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and delivery, with the same moving crew at pickup and drop-off. Confirm the pickup, delivery and any storage stages in your move plan. The survey and move-planning team performs a separate role from the crew carrying out the move.
Use the estimate review to confirm the addresses, inventory, packing responsibilities, access assumptions and people receiving the shipment. Keep written changes with the moving documents. If the home is not ready, contact the mover before loading to discuss an achievable alternative.
For an interstate move, use the FMCSA consumer guidance to understand the documents and questions to ask. Review protection choices and disclose high-value items in advance. The terms of the selected arrangement, rather than an informal description of coverage, govern the shipment.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
09 /
Recheck the approach and current traffic instructions
Inspect the driveway, gate and porch again before arrival, especially after rain, wind or snow. Arrange clearing and lighting with the person responsible for the property, and keep an alternative receiving window available if the route becomes unusable.
The September–October 2026 Hill Street notice includes weekday afternoon left-turn restrictions from Halsey Neck Lane and Captains Neck Lane, and a permanent restriction from Lee Avenue. Check the current signs and instructions for the actual date rather than relying on a saved passenger-car route.
10 /
Keep the route, receiver and decisions clear
Before loading, walk the route with the crew, identify possessions staying behind and confirm the authorized truck position. Keep children, pets and visitors away from the carrying path. The person receiving the move should know the room names and where the major pieces belong.
If a sign is missing, the permitted area is occupied or a building entrance is unavailable, use the contact agreed in advance. Do not assume a driver can create an alternative by blocking an alley or sidewalk. Confirm any longer carry, revised window or other scope change with the authorized decision-maker.
At delivery, make the first usable rooms a priority within the agreed plan. Keep exits and utility access clear, check the inventory and record any concern while the relevant item can be inspected. Save the paperwork and receipts together. Arrange unwanted furniture and cartons through the appropriate disposal or agreed removal service, rather than leaving them in a common area.

11 /
Prepare the request and a practical fallback
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Include photographs of both entrances and the largest pieces, the inventory, building instructions and proposed truck positions. Say what is confirmed and what depends on someone else's decision. A requested utility date or permit application is not yet confirmation.
For Plan B, name the trigger, decision time and person authorized to approve a change. Confirm a later access window, lawful alternative loading position or actual storage availability before relying on it. Account for extra handling or waiting, temporary arrangements for people and pets, and the condition needed to resume delivery. Bring these questions into the estimate discussion while the alternatives remain available.

Questions before you move
What should I send for a Southampton moving estimate?
Send both addresses, unit and floor, usable dates, an inventory and photographs of the full access route. Identify stairs, gates, shared entrances, large or fragile pieces, packing choices and any building or street conditions. Note who can confirm keys and receive delivery.
Can the moving truck use Main Street or Jobs Lane?
The central Main Street segment and Jobs Lane have a specific daytime restriction based on vehicle load capacity. An exception follows a Village Clerk and Board process. Confirm the actual vehicle, curb and window; an open space or a building’s permission does not settle the street rule.
Are basic furniture assembly and packing materials included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
Can you plan a move with a delayed closing or uncertain keys?
Tell us which condition is unresolved and when a decision will be possible. Discuss the receiving window and any actual storage requirement before loading. Waiting, additional handling and a later delivery need to be addressed in the written arrangement.
What should I check at a shared building?
Confirm the permitted entrance, moving hours, lift or stair route, protective materials and the person approving access. Ask about any certificate of insurance, attendant, deposit or labor requirement and obtain its written scope. Keep the building’s charges separate from the moving estimate.
How do I prepare books and fragile belongings?
Separate dense books into manageable small cartons and keep fragile items identified for the packing discussion. Explain the condition, size and handling needs of art, glass and other special pieces. Agree which items you pack, which need professional packing and what materials the written scope includes.
Does the guide cover the whole Town of Southampton?
The main municipal procedure and housing figures concern Southampton Village. Nearby hamlets are clearly labeled as comparisons. Confirm the municipality, road owner, school district and utilities for the specific property before applying a village instruction elsewhere.
