Moving services in Pittsford, New York

A workable move starts with the shipment and the receiving address. Sterling Oakbridge can plan packing, transport and delivery around the access, dates and work you agree in writing.

01 /

Start with the shipment and the full address

Tell us the pickup and delivery addresses, unit numbers, preferred dates and who can confirm possession of the receiving home. Include belongings in the basement, attic, garage or storage unit, and identify anything you will carry yourself. A usable inventory should distinguish pieces that need special handling from ordinary cartons and furniture.

This page concerns Pittsford village in Monroe County. A Pittsford mailing address may lie elsewhere in the surrounding town. Send the actual property information so access questions go to the correct owner. Our Rochester moving page is the regional reference; discuss your particular route and date with the planning team.

Choose the work you need

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

Make the estimate match moving day

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

Photograph the largest pieces and both carrying routes. Record floors, steps, doorway widths, narrow turns, parking position and the distance from vehicle to entrance. Share building instructions and the name of the person who controls access. Packing an entire household, working through several entrances or preparing a complex item can justify a closer review even in a small home.

04 /

Look beyond the front-door width

Measure the furniture against the complete route: approach, porch or landing, door, corridor and final turn into the room. Check whether doors open fully, which entrance can be used and whether an alternative route needs the owner’s approval. Older housing can have several different levels or later additions; assess the actual property rather than treating a village address as a floor plan.

Send photographs before loading if a piece may not pass. Identify who can unlock a side entrance, clear obstacles and protect the receiving surfaces. A public walkway, neighboring drive or shared passage must not become a handling route simply because it is convenient. Keep emergency access and the household’s essential walking route clear.

Agree where the vehicle can stand

The Village parking page lists seasonal restrictions and requires emergency access to stay unobstructed. From November 1 through April 15, parking on village streets and public ways is prohibited between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. The parking FAQs also require parking with the flow of traffic. Daytime limits vary; a moving booking does not create an exception.

Inspect current signs and ask Village Hall about the intended vehicle, date and duration, and which road owner must approve any special arrangement. The Village maps page links parking guidance for general reference. For private space, confirm enough room to enter, stand and leave with the owner, while keeping the sidewalk, driveways and fire access usable. Agree a fallback if the chosen position is unavailable.

Decide what gets packed and what stays with you

Labor, materials and optional work

Item or taskHow it is charged
Basic furniture disassembly and reassemblyPart of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee
Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tapeNo separate charge for these basic protection materials
Boxes supplied for your moveCharged separately
PackingCharged for working time; boxes are separate
Unwrapping furniturePart of delivery
Unpacking the contents of boxesOptional work, charged for working time
Packaging and waste removalCharged separately
Complex furniture and other specialist workIndividually quoted after review

Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

Choose full packing, selected rooms or particular fragile items. Set aside medicines, identity documents, devices, chargers, keys and the belongings needed while the shipment is in transit. Label cartons by receiving room and flag fragile contents. Ask the team to assess collections or awkward objects before choosing materials.

Keep a short list of the preparation you will finish yourself. If packing and carrying cannot fit the property’s window, discuss a separate preparation stage. Tell us when contents or responsibilities change so the estimate continues to reflect the work.

Prepare the receiving rooms and handover

Give the crew a room plan and identify the person who can make placement decisions. Keep doors, stairs and exits usable while furniture and cartons reach their destinations. Review beds, essential seating and the first-night supplies before filling the remaining floor space.

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. Optional box unpacking and separately charged packaging removal should be included in the scope if you want that help. Walk through the delivered inventory and condition with the team before it leaves, recording any issue through the agreed process. Keep the paperwork and report questions promptly.

Plan for a gap between pickup and possession

Direct and consolidated long-distance moving

Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.

If the closing, lease start or key handover can slip, identify a contact who can confirm readiness before dispatch. Discuss storage and later delivery as separate stages, including what must be available during the gap. Keep essential documents, medicines and overnight belongings with you.

A truck arriving at a locked property cannot resolve the handover. Tell the planning team immediately when the date or receiving conditions change. Storage availability, handling stages and delivery timing need confirmation in the written plan; neither a tentative closing date nor an estimated number of hours guarantees the sequence.

Review the item and operation together

Specialist services by individual quote

What needs attentionWork available for review
Complex furnitureBunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly
Heavy itemsPianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables
Art and collectionsFine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification
Hanging and installationPictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately
Business equipmentOffice furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route

Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

For a piano, safe, large cabinet or collection, provide photographs, dimensions, weight if known and the route at both ends. Explain what must be disconnected or prepared and who owns those tasks. Do not assume a specialist operation is included in ordinary carrying labor because the item appears on the inventory.

Coordinate a business move with the property

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

For a shop or office, identify the receiving manager, loading position, work window and item destinations. Separate files and equipment that must remain available from the main shipment. Agree the shutdown, packing and receiving sequence with your staff, including responsibility for IT reconnection and testing.

A business relocation may also involve municipal property or sign questions. The Village Building Department is a starting point for those questions at a village address. Business approvals and contractor requirements do not automatically define the permission needed for a particular moving truck.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Read the estimate and protection terms

Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.

Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

Questions before you move

Do you have a Pittsford office?

This page describes moving services for a proposed Pittsford move. It does not establish a local office; confirm the route, date and work with the planning team.

Is a local estimate a fixed total?

Local moves usually charge for working time. Estimated or minimum hours help plan the work; the written terms explain billing and separate items.

What is included with basic furniture and packing materials?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Can you unpack cartons and remove packaging?

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

Can the truck stay on a village street overnight in winter?

Village guidance prohibits public-way parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., November 1 through April 15. Arrange a permitted position with the responsible owner; a moving booking is not an exemption.

What if our keys are delayed?

Tell the planning team before dispatch and review storage or a later delivery stage. Agree the additional handling, availability and costs in writing.

Does a Pittsford mailing address identify the correct government?

Check the parcel. Pittsford village, the surrounding town and the postal area have different boundaries and procedure owners.

Will the estimator also carry out the move?

The survey and planning team has a separate role from the moving crew. Dedicated long-distance service uses the same moving crew at pickup and drop-off; specialist operations need their own agreed scope.
