Movers in North East, PA
The last few rooms can change the shape of a move: a kitchen still in use, furniture upstairs, belongings in a detached garage. Sterling Oakbridge helps you decide what needs preparation, what can go straight onto the truck and what must be ready when it arrives.
01 /
Start with what is going and where it belongs
Send both full addresses, the belongings to move and the dates you can consider. Include a garage, cellar, storage unit or extra pickup. If only part of the household is moving, identify those pieces and mark what stays.
Specify North East in Erie County, Pennsylvania, along with the street and ZIP. The borough and the surrounding township share the place name; the complete address helps the planning team identify the right property and approach.
Choose one person who can answer questions about the shipment and one who can receive it, if they are different. A simple room list or set of photographs is a useful starting point; the team can ask for the missing details.
02 /
Choose the help that makes the move workable
You may be packing yourselves, preparing only selected rooms or asking for help from the first carton onward. Tell us which parts you want completed and what you have already arranged.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
A piece that needs a special method should be reviewed before move day. Point out wall fixings, fragile finishes, missing assembly instructions or an unusually awkward route.
03 /
Read the estimate alongside the work it covers
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
When comparing quotes, use the same inventory and responsibilities. Clarify travel, minimum time, extra stops, materials and separately quoted work. Keep the agreed version available so later additions can be identified and priced clearly.
04 /
Look beyond the first doorway
A back entrance may lead through a mudroom and a second doorway before reaching the kitchen. Show the space between the openings, the threshold and the room beyond. A wide outer door alone does not establish that a long piece can make the whole journey.
For upstairs or cellar items, include the full stair flight, landings, handrails and turns. For a detached garage, show the path back to the house or driveway. Let the planning team know about a fragile floor or a part of the route that cannot be used.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.
Move loose household items away from the agreed carrying path before work begins. Tell the team if the entrance or access arrangements change after the survey.

05 /
Settle the vehicle position before it is needed
Photograph the approach and the proposed stopping space, including branches, slopes, neighboring drives and the path to the entrance. An ordinary parking space can leave too little room for a moving vehicle or the work around it.
Ask the property owner or manager to confirm use of a private drive or shared area. For a street position within the borough, start with North East Borough at 814-725-8611 and establish the responsible road authority and any arrangement required for the actual location. A nearby open curb is not a reservation.
Check current local notices when the move is near a town-center event or road work. If the stopping position changes, review the new carrying distance and access with the team.

06 /
Decide when the kitchen stops being a working kitchen
Keep a small set of everyday dishes, food and first-night essentials apart from the items being packed. Mark the cartons that should be opened first at the new home and keep belongings for storage clearly separate.
Tell us about fragile dishes, glass, collections and anything that needs a particular packing method. Books belong in manageable small cartons; a large box does not become safe to carry simply because its top can be closed.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Agree whether preparation can fit on moving day or needs an earlier work period. If you are packing some rooms yourselves, identify the parts that will be finished before the crew arrives.

07 /
Connect the move to the time you can actually enter
A date in the calendar is only part of the plan. Confirm when the old property must be empty, when keys to the new one will be available and whether an inspection, closing or contractor controls either time.
Discuss a possible delay before the vehicle is loaded. The right response may involve a revised delivery time or storage, depending on availability and the agreed terms. Keep the receiving contact reachable while the move is in progress.
If the new property is a rental, coordinate the handover with the landlord or manager. Account changes and installation appointments should follow the same access plan, but changing one booking does not change the others automatically.
08 /
Plan the other end of a longer move
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
Give the destination the same attention as the pickup: the entrance, stopping space, receiving contact and permitted delivery time. Do not leave an unusual destination item or access restriction for the crew to discover on arrival.
For storage between addresses, discuss the likely period, later delivery and any belongings you may need in the meantime. Keep essential documents and daily items with you if they would be difficult to retrieve from a stored shipment.
09 /
Decide what the business needs working first
A small office or shop can have a short list of essential items that matters more than the total number of cartons. Identify the first workstations, stock or furniture that must be placed, and what can follow in a later stage.
Share the property rules, receiving contact and any limits on the loading area. Evening, weekend or phased work can be reviewed against actual access and crew availability. Equipment that needs specialist handling requires an item-specific plan.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.
10 /
Give unwanted belongings a separate destination
Decide what is being moved, donated, sold or disposed of before the loading order is settled. Mark anything that must stay at the old property and arrange the relevant handover or collection.
The borough Streets Department publishes separate instructions for materials outside ordinary collection. Check the destination before leaving a move-out pile at the curb.
Include any requested recycling, cleaning or packaging removal in the agreed work. Check what can be accepted and how it is charged before relying on it to finish the move-out.
11 /
Record the protection choice in the moving documents
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.
Identify items that need extra review while there is time to discuss them. Keep the agreed inventory and condition information with the move documents, and ask how a concern should be reported if one arises.
12 /
Finish with the rooms you need to use
Decide where the larger pieces belong before they block the space needed for the next delivery. Room labels and a simple layout can help someone receiving the move on your behalf make consistent decisions.
At the end, walk through the completed work with the crew, confirm agreed placement and identify any remaining task. Keep doors and everyday routes usable while you unpack less urgent rooms.
Furniture unwrapping, box unpacking and removal of packaging are distinct parts of the scope. Agree the level of help you want so the end of the delivery matches the plan.

Questions before you move
Which North East does this page cover?
North East in Erie County, Pennsylvania. Send the full street address and ZIP for both ends; the borough and surrounding township share the name.
Can we move only selected furniture or a few rooms?
Yes. Identify the exact belongings and any separate pickup or delivery. The planning team will review the inventory, route and work needed for an estimate.
Does a local estimate fix the number of hours?
No. Estimated hours and any minimum help plan the crew and day. Actual working time can change with access, traffic, readiness or a changed inventory, subject to the written terms.
What information helps with a narrow entrance?
Photograph the approach, complete doorways, the space between them, stair turns and the receiving room. Include dimensions or building instructions you already have; the team can request further details.
Are cartons and basic furniture assembly included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you help if the new home is not ready?
Storage and revised delivery arrangements can be reviewed. Raise the possible delay early so availability, receiving access and any additional charges can be agreed.
Will the same crew handle a dedicated long-distance move?
Our dedicated long-distance service uses the same moving crew at pickup and drop-off. The team preparing the survey and estimate has a separate role.
Can the crew help us unpack?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
