Movers in Triangle, VA
Sterling Oakbridge movers help Triangle homes, townhouses and businesses with local and interstate moves, packing, storage and specialist services. Share your addresses, dates and inventory so we can review the work and prepare your estimate.
01 /
Start with the route and the work you need
Triangle moves can involve townhouses, single-family houses, apartment turnovers and business premises. This unincorporated Prince William County community sits between Dumfries and Quantico. A household relocating for military work may need to coordinate report dates and installation access; proximity to the base does not establish a military contract or entry permission. Tell us which shape yours is, with both addresses and your dates, and we will plan the work around it.
The address itself tells us a lot. County and property rules need separate checks, curbside service is a per-household or HOA arrangement, and the county landfill and compost facility are disposal options for eligible material. The Triangle relocation guide covers housing, utilities, schools and county procedures; this page covers the move itself.

Choose the moving help you need
Triangle households can request a local move with some level of packing help. Others may need storage between a sale and a closing — or between postings — specialist care for fragile or high-value pieces, or a long-distance shipment with a single agreed price for an unchanged scope. Each is a different scope of work, so the estimate starts from what you actually need rather than a package.
Local moving covers Triangle and the surrounding eastern Prince William communities — Dumfries, Quantico, Montclair and Woodbridge included. Long-distance moving covers interstate shipments. If your move needs both — for example, a townhouse into storage, then delivery to another state — say so at the start so the stages are priced and scheduled together.
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |

Plan a Triangle business move around your hours
A Triangle commercial move may involve a small suite, shop or office. Describe your actual premises and operating hours so we can plan the scope and sequence.
Send us the inventory of workstations, shelving and equipment, the access at both ends, and your operating constraints — which hours you can be offline and what must run first at the new address. We plan the sequence so the interruption stays short.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Plan the carry from the truck to the room
In Triangle the access survey splits by stock. Townhouses: the narrower stair with a landing turn and doors framed before king-size furniture — measure the entry, the stair width and the landing depth before assuming a piece fits. Single-family houses: the garage entry, the basement stair. Apartments: the shared entry, the elevator or the stair.
Two local checks belong in the survey. In townhouse and apartment communities, the HOA's or landlord's written rules on truck position, parking courts and move windows come before the day — get them early. And the truck position itself is decided from photos, not assumed.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

The driveway, the HOA rules, and the county facilities
The truck position is a survey decision from photos, vehicle dimensions and the actual property rules. Get the HOA or landlord move window, loading-area approval and truck-size limits in writing. A driveway is an option only when its dimensions, surface and applicable rules allow it; an association cannot authorize use of a public road.
For a commercial vehicle on a public street, Prince William County directs residents to Police at 703-792-6500 to identify appropriate parking areas. The county also describes restrictions on parking or storing commercial vehicles of 10,100 pounds or more on residential property. Confirm how the rules apply to your specific vehicle, location and temporary loading period; do not assume permission from an empty curb or the absence of a permit page.
Keep disposal errands separate from the loading position. The guide waste section covers county facilities, current hours, accepted material and residency proof; its parking section helps prepare the property and public-road checks.

Choose packing, furniture preparation and specialist care
Packing help scales from a few fragile cartons to a full pack. Your move may include a full kitchen, garage contents or furniture on several floors — tell us which spaces are in scope so the materials match the work: books in small book boxes, wardrobes for closet contents, divided cartons for dishes.
The county's setup rewards a planned cleanout: the hauler's pickup for the household stream (per your contract or HOA), and the county's landfill and compost facility for what exceeds it — with hazardous waste and electronics at the landfill on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Packing the "keep" list first and completely is the difference between a clean move-out and a scramble.
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

What affects your Triangle moving cost
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Locally, the practical cost drivers in Triangle are access and volume. A third-floor apartment or a townhouse's two stair runs take longer than a level house; a long carry from a parking-court position lengthens every trip. The packing level you choose, disassembly, and any storage stage each change the total. The estimate reflects the work you describe — accurate floors, stairs and a real inventory make it accurate.
Disposal is a two-channel plan here: the hauler's route for the weekly stream, the county facilities for the overflow. A cleanout planned that way is an errand, not a scramble.

From the first conversation to placement
Direct and consolidated long-distance moving
Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.
The review starts with your two addresses, dates and inventory. Before moving day we confirm the scope in writing: what is packed by whom, the access plan at both ends, where the truck stands, and the timing windows, including the backup plan if orders, a closing or a storm moves the date.
When the day comes, the crew works the confirmed scope: protect the route, load in the agreed order, place room by room at the destination, and reassemble what was disassembled for the route.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

Plan around the corridor calendar
Summer and the end and start of each month can be busy moving periods; ask about your actual date early and agree a backup if available. School dates or a military report date may constrain your own household schedule, but they do not establish crew availability. Summer storms and winter ice can move any date on the calendar.
Underneath sits the county's weekly window: the landfill daily, HHW and electronics Wednesdays and Saturdays. Whatever the season: the estimate early, the date with a backup, the cleanout planned ahead.
10 /
Prepare for the day you actually booked
Before the crew arrives, clear the driveway or the agreed parking-court space and the entry to its full width. Inside, clear the main walking route and set aside the items that travel with you — documents, medications, chargers, the kettle. In a shared building or an HOA community, confirm the move window and give the neighbors the heads-up.
At the house, walk the route with the crew lead before the first carry: which entrance, which stairs, where the staging area is. A level route is dolly work — the efficient way to move dressers and cartons — so keep that path free of rugs, clutter and parked cars. If something changes mid-day — weather, a delayed key handover — say it early; the plan adjusts better in the morning than in the afternoon.

Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
The more concrete the request, the more useful the answer: both addresses, preferred dates plus an alternative, the inventory or a room-by-room outline (garage included), the entry and any tight turns, the community's move rules, packing expectations, and anything fragile or oversized. Photos of the largest pieces, the parking and the stairs help us price the actual work. For an interstate shipment, ask for the carrier's legal operating name and written terms; the federal Protect Your Move checklist explains what interstate movers must provide.

Questions before you move
Can I book a move entirely within Triangle?
Yes. We provide local moving within Triangle and the surrounding eastern Prince William communities — Dumfries, Quantico, Montclair and Woodbridge. Send both addresses, your dates, inventory and access details so we can plan the crew and work required.
Where does the moving truck park at a Triangle home?
Choose the position at the survey using vehicle dimensions and property rules. Get driveway or parking-court permission from the property manager, and confirm public-street restrictions with the county Police non-emergency number, 703-792-6500. County rules also cover heavy commercial vehicles on residential property. Do not assume that a clear curb or HOA approval authorizes public-road loading.
Do you handle military-household moves near Quantico?
We can review a household move near Quantico within the agreed service scope. Send both addresses, inventory and report dates. If an endpoint is on a military installation, arrange installation entry separately and tell us the requirements before booking. A personally arranged move is distinct from a government-authorized shipment; no government contract, reimbursement or discount is promised.
How do I get rid of things I am not taking?
Two channels: your curbside hauler (a per-household or HOA contract) for the weekly stream, and the county's landfill at 14811 Dumfries Road for the overflow — open daily (7–4, Thursdays to 6), accepted physical ID and matching residency documents checked at the booth — see the county proof-of-residency list. Hazardous waste and electronics go to the landfill Wednesdays and Saturdays 8–4; yard waste goes to the compost facility on Hansen Farm Road.
Who provides water and sewer in Triangle?
Confirm the actual property connection with Prince William Water. New customers should use its Start Service instructions or call 703-335-7950; existing customers can request a transfer two business days before moving. Tenants need owner authorization. Confirm any private well/septic arrangement with the owner rather than assuming service from a mailing address.
How is the price of a Triangle move set?
Local moves are priced on the labor and time the work needs — volume, access (stairs, entries, the carry from the truck), packing level and any storage stage all shape it. Long-distance shipments carry an agreed price that holds while the shipment and scope stay as agreed. The estimate reflects the detail you give us.
Are basic furniture assembly and packing materials included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
