Moving in Shady Spring, West Virginia

Set the addresses, inventory and receiving date first. We review the packing, vehicle access and delivery plan around the actual work.

01 /

Start with your actual addresses and inventory

A move to Shady Spring starts with the place you will actually enter, the things that must get there and the date you can receive them. A house, a rental, a retirement move and a business relocation can need different packing, handling and timing. Include a garage, outbuilding or storage stop only when it is part of your inventory.

Shady Spring is a census-designated place in Raleigh County, not an incorporated city with one municipal moving office. The Census CDP boundary is useful for orientation; it does not define every Shady Spring mailing address, school assignment or utility connection. The Shady Spring relocation guide helps with those address and account checks. This page covers the work of the move.

Choose the work you need

Tell us whether you need transportation, packing for selected rooms, a full pack, storage between dates or help with particular items. Send the origin, destination and any extra stop together so the estimate can cover the whole sequence. A nearby place name alone does not confirm availability for your route and dates.

For a smaller household, list the pieces and cartons rather than use bedroom count as the entire scope. For a larger property, separate the main house from a garage or outbuilding so access, inventory and time are visible.

Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.

Plan the business handover

For an office, shop or workshop, identify the items being moved, the receiving layout and what has to work first at the new premises. Tell us when people can stop using the space and when you need the new site available. Agree who handles network equipment, specialist machines, stock and documents rather than treat all equipment as ordinary furniture.

A short route does not by itself establish a short interruption: the amount of work, access and receiving readiness determine the sequence. Arrange a named person at each end to answer inventory and layout questions.

IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.

We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Walk from the proposed vehicle position to each room

Photograph the complete approach: the street connection, driveway surface and grade, turning space, overhead clearance and the entrance. Then follow the carrying route into the rooms. Show thresholds, screen-door swings, steps, handrails and tight turns beside the largest items that must pass them.

A wide-looking private driveway may still have soft edges or an unsuitable turning area. Confirm the owner’s permission and any load-sensitive areas before proposing a vehicle position. If a basement, shed or upper floor is included, show that separate route as well.

We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.

The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which municipal or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Confirm a usable place for the vehicle

Decide where the assigned vehicle can wait without blocking a roadway, driveway or essential access. Property permission, road conditions and vehicle suitability are separate questions; the CDP map and a photograph cannot settle them. If roadside space is part of the proposal, identify the actual road authority and ask about the intended date and vehicle rather than assume a universal moving permit or automatic permission.

Use WV 511’s road and commercial restriction information when planning the route and recheck before travel. The September 2024 Z-Way announcement described work connecting Shady Spring and Beaver; it is not a current opening or lane-closure notice. Tell us when a proposed approach is under construction so an alternative can be agreed before dispatch.

Separate packing from the cleanout

Decide what travels before the packing day. Keep documents, medication, chargers, keys and the first-night essentials with you. Tell us which rooms and fragile items need help so the materials and time match the actual task. Books belong in small book cartons; linen and lighter household goods can use larger cartons. Do not put every type of item into one heavy box.

Sort discarded items separately from the moving inventory. Raleigh County’s recycling center lists cardboard and several other accepted materials, with hours different from the landfill. Confirm how your particular items should be prepared and delivered; a listing of cardboard does not mean every mixed or contaminated carton is acceptable.

Labor, materials and optional work

Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.

Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.

Make the estimate usable

Provide both addresses, the preferred dates and any date flexibility, an inventory or room-by-room video, and photographs of access and the proposed stopping place. Mark stairs, long carries, large or fragile pieces and intermediate stops. If you know something important may change—such as the closing date or access to a garage—say so before the scope is finalized.

Compare estimates for the same inventory and services. Ask what triggers a scope change and how that change will be agreed. Distance is one input; it does not replace the packing, access and receiving details.

Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total

Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.

A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.

Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price

For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.

Let the scope determine the survey

A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.

Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.

The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.

08 /

Work backwards from the receiving date

Confirm key handover and when the property can actually accept delivery before choosing the final schedule. Arrange any building slot and the people who will open both addresses. Earlier planning helps when your dates are constrained; availability still needs confirmation rather than a promised seasonal slot.

Keep a second workable plan for late keys or a changed handover. Decide whom you will contact, whether an alternate receiving date is possible and whether a storage stage would be needed.

Direct and consolidated long-distance moving

Our direct long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and the same moving crew at pickup and delivery. For a suitable small shipment, ask about consolidated delivery with a wider agreed receiving window. We serve destinations throughout the United States and Canada. Confirm pickup, delivery and any storage stages in the written move plan. The planning team performs a separate role from the moving crew.

09 /

Describe the gap between addresses

If the old address must be empty before the new one is ready, give us both dates and the items you may need during the gap. Agree the storage stage, any access needed and the later delivery before loading. Keep personal documents and daily necessities outside that stored shipment.

A delayed closing does not automatically create storage capacity or an unchanged delivery price. Contact us as soon as the gap becomes likely so the revised sequence can be reviewed.

10 /

Keep the handover clear

Before arrival, clear the agreed carrying route and keep children and pets safely away from it. Walk through the inventory and identify items staying behind. Point out fragile pieces, disconnected appliances and access limits that are easy to miss.

At delivery, use simple room labels and the agreed layout so decisions do not have to be made for every carton. Keep a named contact reachable and tell the crew promptly if the receiving position or room access changes.

Empty and protect the item, then agree the carrying route.

11 /

Review protection before the move

Inventory fragile and higher-value items before packing and discuss the appropriate handling and protection. Keep records and raise questions before move day so the selected terms are clear.

Choose protection before the move

Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.

For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

Questions before you move

Can you review a local or interstate move involving Shady Spring?

Send both physical addresses, dates, inventory and access information. We review the route and services from that scope; a community name alone does not confirm availability.

What should I send for an estimate?

Include both addresses, inventory or room-by-room video, date flexibility, packing needs, stairs, carrying route, vehicle position and any storage or extra stop.

Does every Shady Spring address have the same moving rules?

No. The CDP, mailing address, road ownership, utility connections and property conditions are different checks. Confirm the actual address and each relevant owner.

Are packing materials included?

Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.

Can you unpack at the new address?

Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.

What if keys are delayed?

Contact us promptly so a revised receiving date or a storage stage can be reviewed. Capacity, access and pricing require agreement; a delayed closing does not establish an automatic alternative.

Can a private driveway be used automatically?

Confirm permission and the assigned vehicle’s approach, surface, clearance and turning space. Share photographs and load-sensitive areas before agreeing the stopping position.
