Plan from the Cincinnati property and its receiving route
A Cincinnati move may involve a brick apartment above a storefront, a hillside house with exterior steps, a shared residential building or commercial premises with a separate delivery entrance. Describe both addresses and the inventory before choosing the handling plan. A neighborhood name cannot establish the usable doorway or truck position.
Photograph the route from curb to final room, including changes of level, stair turns, shared doors and the narrowest opening. Identify who controls keys and who can approve placement. For a business, distinguish the public entrance from the permitted delivery door and confirm when the receiving space will be available.
The Cincinnati relocation guide covers the City of Cincinnati in Hamilton County, Ohio. A destination elsewhere in the metropolitan area needs its own municipal and service checks, even when the postal or regional description says Cincinnati.

Choose the help that matches the work
Sterling Oakbridge provides local and interstate household moves, commercial moving, packing and storage. Choose the work you need, then let us review the inventory, access and timing for your estimate.
| Moving help | What we can include | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Local residential moving | Loading, transport, delivery and basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Both addresses, inventory, dates and the route through each property |
| Interstate moving | Pickup, transport and delivery arrangements, with storage when needed | Destination, date constraints and the person receiving the shipment |
| Commercial moving | Office and business furniture, equipment and agreed preparation, including moves with building restrictions | Business type, equipment list, building rules and the work schedule to protect |
| Packing and unpacking | Selected-item or full packing, preparation before move day and optional box unpacking | What you will pack and what you want us to prepare |
| Storage and staged delivery | Storage between addresses and an agreed receiving and delivery plan | Expected dates, contents and anything you need to access during storage |
| Designer and hotel furniture receiving | Receiving, storage and delivery of furniture to an agreed plan | Expected shipments, delivery instructions and the final receiving site |
Describe the result you need at each end: furniture placed in the new rooms, a selected group of items packed, a staged delivery or an agreed storage interval. Mark the possessions you will carry yourself and anything staying behind. This keeps the service discussion tied to the real inventory.

Coordinate a business move with the people reopening the space
For an office, shop or other commercial property, identify the person approving the move and the person controlling access at each building. Record the receiving entrance, loading position, security procedure and the rooms where items belong. A downtown shopfront may have a separate delivery door; an office suite may share its lift or corridor with other tenants.
Separate the physical move from technical shutdown and restart. Have your IT provider identify cables, equipment and network dependencies; ask the responsible specialist about any equipment that needs preparation beyond ordinary handling. List files, stock, fixtures and furniture by destination, and agree which group must be available first.
Give the estimator the permitted work window, not only the time the business closes. Arrange a receiver who can check the delivered inventory and authorize placement. If access changes, the decision-maker should be reachable before further handling or waiting is incurred.
IT transport and disconnection are available; arrange reconnection and system startup with your IT team. Crane work is outside our service scope.
We can also quote island moves, recycling, move-out cleaning and car shipping. For an island destination, provide the exact address so the vehicle or freight crossing, receiving arrangements and final delivery can be reviewed together.

Measure steps, landings and the complete carrying route
Start at the proposed vehicle position and follow the route a large item would take. Measure exterior steps, the entrance, internal stairs, turning space and the final room. A broad front door does not resolve a narrow stair landing, and a nearby driveway is useful only when the owner permits its use.
Ask the property manager about the actual moving window, lift reservation, loading door and any insurance documentation. Identify deposits, attendants or protective materials required by that building. Keep the public-space permission separate from the building’s approval, especially when the route passes across a busy sidewalk.
Send the estimator photographs and dimensions for unusually large, heavy or delicate items. Agree on any disassembly before move day. If the route is uncertain, resolve the survey or alternative before the item is packed and the receiving window begins.
We can coordinate building COIs, moving-truck permit arrangements, elevator scheduling and moves that require union labor. Send the building instructions and management contact early. We can also arrange materials and packing before the carrying window when the property permits that access.
The agreed plan should identify who submits each request, who approves it and which City or building charges apply. An application is one step; the required access and time still need confirmation.

Arrange the permit, signs and police notification in sequence
Cincinnati’s DOTE resource page directs non-event residential and business loading reservations to the Police temporary parking process. The Police instructions require a valid right-of-way permit before the restriction application. Contact DOTE at 513-352-3463 with the exact location, vehicle, date, hours and proposed use of the street or sidewalk.
The general permit form asks applicants to allow 10–14 days for processing. That is a planning allowance, not guaranteed approval. Once the permit is issued, apply through the responsible police district and obtain its signs or meter bags. Ordinary meter payment and private cones do not create an authorized reservation.
For an unrestricted parking area, signs and police notification are required 24–36 hours beforehand; for metered-only areas, the interval is 14–24 hours. The clock starts when the district desk officer is notified after posting. Arrange a named person to install, report, check and remove the restrictions.
Use the full Cincinnati curb procedure for application details, charges requiring confirmation and streetcar conditions. Keep a lawful alternative position and its carrying distance in the estimate.

Decide what is packed, by whom and when
Labor, materials and optional work
| Item or task | How it is charged |
|---|---|
| Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly | Part of your moving labor time, without a separate basic assembly fee |
| Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape | No separate charge for these basic protection materials |
| Boxes supplied for your move | Charged separately |
| Packing | Charged for working time; boxes are separate |
| Unwrapping furniture | Part of delivery |
| Unpacking the contents of boxes | Optional work, charged for working time |
| Packaging and waste removal | Charged separately |
| Complex furniture and other specialist work | Individually quoted after review |
Tell us which tasks you want completed and which materials you need. Your estimate should distinguish moving labor, boxes, specialist work and removal charges.
Specialist services by individual quote
| What needs attention | Work available for review |
|---|---|
| Complex furniture | Bunk beds, Murphy beds, large flat-pack wardrobes and specialist sofa disassembly and reassembly |
| Heavy items | Pianos and grand pianos, safes, gym equipment and pool tables |
| Art and collections | Fine-art handling, soft packing, custom crates and crating to an agreed museum or collection specification |
| Hanging and installation | Pictures, mirrors, wall-mounted TVs, curtain hardware and chandeliers, with the removal, installation and any technical work scoped separately |
| Business equipment | Office furniture systems, restaurant refrigerators and ranges, and industrial equipment assessed for the specific item and route |
Send photographs, dimensions, make or model where relevant, and the route through both properties. Describe exactly what needs to be taken apart, moved or installed. We review the method and required work before providing an individual quote.
Identify dense contents, fragile pieces and items that need individual discussion. Books belong in small book cartons; a larger carton is not a useful way to reduce the number of boxes if it becomes too heavy to handle. Keep one clear packing task at a time, and label cartons by destination room and contents.
Set aside identification, closing documents, medicines, chargers and first-night essentials before work begins. Tell the estimator about unpacking or packaging removal you want included, so those tasks can be discussed with the rest of the scope.

Understand what the estimate is planning
Local moves: estimated hours, not a fixed total
Most local moves are priced by working time. Your estimate sets out the hourly basis, any minimum hours and the work and materials to be charged separately. Estimated hours help us plan the crew and whether the work can fit the proposed day; they are not a maximum charge or a promise that the move will finish within that time.
A move estimated at six hours may take eight if traffic delays the truck, an elevator is shared rather than reserved, packing is unfinished or the inventory or plan changes. Tell us about changes early. If the work needs preparation on another day or a separate delivery stage, we will review those arrangements with you. Charging follows the written terms for the move.
Long-distance flat rates: the same scope, the same price
For a long-distance move quoted at a flat rate, the agreed price stays the same when the shipment and agreed work stay the same. Added belongings, omitted items, extra packing or changed access and delivery requirements can change the scope and price. Keep the inventory, packing responsibilities and pickup and delivery conditions in writing, and have additions reviewed before the affected work begins.
Two homes with similar floor areas can require different work. A direct driveway entrance differs from a third-floor walk-up reached from a distant curb. Inventory, stairs, carrying distance, packing, large-piece handling, access restrictions and the delivery plan all matter.
Send the same information for both ends and disclose any additional stop or storage need. Identify fees charged by a municipality or building separately from moving services, including who pays them. Ask how waiting, a changed inventory or a revised destination would affect the agreed scope. Resolve these questions before the move is underway.

Review the scope, dates and protection choices
Dedicated long-distance moving
Our dedicated long-distance service uses a dedicated truck and delivery, with the same moving crew at pickup and drop-off. Confirm the pickup, delivery and any storage stages in your move plan. The survey and move-planning team performs a separate role from the crew carrying out the move.
Use the estimate review to confirm the addresses, inventory, packing responsibilities, access assumptions and people receiving the shipment. Keep written changes with the moving documents. If the home is not ready, contact the mover before loading to discuss an achievable alternative.
For an interstate move, use the FMCSA consumer guidance to understand the documents and questions to ask. Review protection choices and disclose high-value items in advance. The terms of the selected arrangement, rather than an informal description of coverage, govern the shipment.
Choose protection before the move
Discuss the basic liability option and higher protection available at an additional charge before moving day. Have the selected level, cost, limits and claims process recorded in your moving documents. Tell us about artwork and other high-value items in advance so their declared values and any special requirements can be reviewed.
For interstate household-goods moves, Full Value Protection applies unless you select Released Value through the required written waiver. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability; it is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the FMCSA explanation of liability and protection and the terms for your particular move.

Recheck the street and approach shortly before arrival
A declared Cincinnati Parking Snow Emergency restricts parking on signed emergency routes. Check current city notices and the actual street signs before relying on a planned loading position. A general list of routes is not evidence that an emergency is active on your date.
The city also identifies property-owner responsibility for clearing sidewalks. Arrange clearing and inspect steps, landings and sloping paths again before handling begins. Keep leaves, ice and loose material out of the carrying route. Confirm who can approve a delay or a revised receiving window if conditions change.
10 /
Keep the receiving route and decision-maker available
Before the crew begins, confirm the authorized truck position, posted restrictions, usable entrance and destination rooms. Keep permit details and the district contact accessible. If another vehicle remains in the reserved area, follow the Police instructions and contact the district; do not improvise a tow or block a different public space.
Walk through the inventory and identify what stays behind. Keep documents, medicines and first-night essentials with the household. Label cartons by room and distinguish items needed immediately from those that can remain packed. Keep children, pets and visitors clear of the carrying route.
Have someone present who can authorize placement and discuss a change to the agreed scope. Check delivered items while they can be inspected and retain the moving documents. Leave a clear entrance and one usable room while the remaining unpacking and disposal work continues.

Prepare the request and a practical fallback
Let the scope determine the survey
A clear item list may be enough for a small, straightforward job. More belongings, full packing, specialist items or restricted access can call for a video review or an in-person visit. Floor area helps describe the property, but the contents and work matter too.
Start by sending what you know. Our move-planning team will recommend the right level of review so the estimate reflects the job. You do not need to choose a survey method or work out every measurement before contacting us.
The survey helps us choose staffing, time and preparation for the actual job. The person reviewing your move is not necessarily part of the moving crew.
Include photographs of both entrances and the largest pieces, the inventory, building instructions and proposed truck positions. Say what is confirmed and what depends on someone else's decision. A requested utility date or permit application is not yet confirmation.
For Plan B, name the trigger, decision time and person authorized to approve a change. Confirm a later access window, lawful alternative loading position or actual storage availability before relying on it. Account for extra handling or waiting, temporary arrangements for people and pets, and the condition needed to resume delivery. Bring these questions into the estimate discussion while the alternatives remain available.

Questions before you move
What information should I send for a Cincinnati estimate?
Send both full addresses, the inventory, proposed dates and photographs of the entrances, stairs and largest pieces. Include packing, storage, building rules and the proposed truck positions. Distinguish confirmed access from arrangements still awaiting approval.
Can you help with a local or interstate move?
Discuss the origin, destination, inventory and required services during the estimate review. A move within the region and a move across state lines can require different planning and documents. Confirm the agreed delivery arrangement and responsibilities for the actual shipment.
Do I need to reserve street space for the truck?
Ask DOTE about the exact operation. When temporary parking restrictions are needed, the Police process requires an issued permit first, then the district application, authorized signs or bags and timely notification after posting. A lawful parking position may differ from a reserved or obstructed area.
Can a building approval replace the city’s permission?
No. The manager controls the building’s entrance, lift and moving window; the relevant city offices control use of public space. Make both arrangements work together and include any separately charged building or municipal requirements in the planning.
Are basic furniture assembly and packing materials included?
Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly use your moving labor time without a separate basic assembly fee. Moving blankets, shrink wrap and tape have no separate material charge. Boxes are charged separately. Complex furniture and specialist work receive individual quotes.
Can you unpack boxes and remove the packaging?
Furniture is unwrapped as part of delivery. We can also unpack the contents of boxes as optional work charged for time. Packaging and waste removal are charged separately; include the help you want in your request.
What if the home or loading space is not ready?
Agree on a decision time and an authorized contact before loading. Confirm a later receiving window, a lawful alternative position or actual storage availability, including the effect of added handling or waiting. Do not assume an unconfirmed fallback will be available.
How should I prepare a large or delicate item?
Provide photographs, dimensions, materials and both access routes. Identify any disassembly, custom packing or specialist handling that needs discussion. Agree on the preparation and responsibilities before the moving window.
